"Well if everyone else is gone from the big five I guess it's my turn." The voice was soft yet not uninterpretable. However none of those present had ever heard it, much less the four remaining guardians who had already sang a song each. Shocked into near paralysis North, Tooth, Bunny, and Jack all turned to stare at Sandy.
"It couldn't be!" said Bunny.
"I've never…." Whispered Tooth.
"Shostakovich!" gasped North.
"Sandy, did you just talk!?" Jack asked.
Sandy chuckled in a silent way then opened his mouth and said "yes I did." The Sandman floated up above his perplexed friends and the equally perplexed audience and went to stand by Sir Michael. "Do you mind?" he asked as he gave the Knight a bow.
"Not at all!" Said Sir Michael. "It is a great honor to be here for a time when something so rare has occurred."
When the knight and horse were off the stage Sandy spread out his dream sand to loosen everyone just enough to get over their paralyzed shock. "As you all know I don't speak often but I feel this is an appropriate time for a rare break of my silence. Would you mind playing the harp for me?" he asked the band.
As soon as a harp was produced Sandy's dream sand created a musical sheet in order for the musician to follow along. (2) An almost hypnotic tune came from the strings as the harpist followed the notes on the musical sheet.
"Harsh now child I'm a friend of yours There is no reason to fear. Just touch my hand and you'll understand, you'll know the Sandman's here. I'll guide you through this wondrous night," at that Sandy's dream sand formed into various creatures all of them dream sand versions of nightmares. "Protect you from nightmares you fear" With a wave of his hands and his whips appeared and the nightmares became happy dreams in shape once again. "And if some sites should cause you fright you can be sure the Sandman is near."
A new musical sheet appeared and the rest of the band picked up trumpets and drums once again.
Sandy dream sand creatures vanished and instead fireworks began to explode in the sky as the little man danced around through the Sparkles that rained down upon everyone. (1) "Close your eyes my friend and you will see things in a different light. Open up your heart and you'll start to see things differently, open up your heart and you'll be amazed at what you find."
Thoroughly enjoying themselves and no longer paralyzed with shock everyone began to dance right alongside Sandy.
"When you're dreaming, I'm never far away, when you're dreaming, you learn things in a different way."
The fireworks collected once again to one big overshadowing figure though no one could quite make out what it was. "There's no need to fear, your dreams can help you understand. There's no need to fear, In me you have a friend."
The music came to an end and Sandy took a very deep bow. "Sanderson the Sandman at your service!"
Sandy floated through the applause accepting some high-fives all the way to his fellow guardians.
"That was amazing Sandy!" Jack exclaimed! "Let's sing another together!"
Sandy smiled but shook his head. He then created Sand images above him He showed a one and a clock and then a calendar that continued to flip through It's pages year after year.
"Seriously! You only ever talk once in centuries!?"
Sandy held his hands out wide and showed a Measuring stick above his head
"Even longer than that!"
At Sandy's nod North gave a boisterous laugh.
Yep, I had Sandy actually Sing and talk for just one short chapter. Couldn't help myself, everybody else got a song and I didn't think it would be quite the same if Sandy created some kind of waking dream or put everybody to sleep in order to perform.
