Spontaneous Magic

This Harry Potter story was written for fun. All rights belong to the wonderful lady (JK Rowling) who gave the world Harry Potter to read and enjoy. Love the movies showing again on TV for the holidays.

++***++ Introduction:

Accidental magic is a problem for all young wizards and witches, especially when they are distressed or scared. Freak begins to despair at age five because no one notices him or cares for him. When he is taken from his cupboard and knows 'Aunt Tuna' and 'Unc Vern' plan to desert him at a hospital, the small boy's fear causes his magic to react spontaneously.

Being adopted into a magical family in England gives 'Frank' the love and safety he needs to stave off expression of uncontrollable magic. His adoptive parents learn a great deal about their son when they blood adopt him using the services of the Goblins.

In 1991, when Frank boards the Hogwarts Express, he meets many children who believe that 'Harry Potter' is dead. His adventures at Hogwarts create many situations where his powerful uncontrollable magic reacts.

This story should be twelve chapters long, ending in sixth year without any romantic relationships in place but lots of magic thrown about. The Weasleys really won't figure in the story very much but Neville, Hermione and Luna will be friends. Dumbledore (BASH), Sirius (BASH), and Pureblood characters (BASH BASH) to help move the story along.

Chapter 04 Plans for Adoption

Frank Scott was melancholy the last night of August. Tomorrow, his 'sister' and 'brother' would leave for Hoggswottle. It would be Christmas and Yule before they came back home for a fortnight. 'Mum' and 'Dad' were sad but Daisy and Roger vibrated with excitement to go back to school and see their friends. Hiding underneath the dining room table, Frank thought no one would miss him if he just disappeared.

"Frank Scott!" called Daisy. "Where are you? I need help with packing my trunk! Please, Frankie, come help me!"

Upon meeting him in the middle of July, Daisy immediately began calling her new brother 'Frankie'. The fact that she always hugged him and kissed his head when she called him that pet name meant that Frank knew it was not like being called 'Freak' by those other people. Frank's memories of them faded away every day while Mum, Dad, Roger and Daisy loved him. The faint memories of his parents before…those memories remained and the feelings from them returned and grew stronger now that he was a member of the 'Scott' family.

Roger called him 'bro' or 'Frank'. Mum and Dad called him 'Frank' and 'son' always with hugs and kisses. The quiet, scared boy blossomed in the weeks he'd been in this home. He had his own bedroom and shared a bath with his brother though Daisy's bathroom was off-limits to her brothers. At night when he was scared, Mum and Dad let him climb into bed between them for a time but he always woke in his own bed in the morning.

"Frankie! I need your help," Daisy insisted.

Climbing out from underneath the tablecloth, Frank found his sister standing beside the table with a smile on her face.

"Come on. Help me pack my trunk and I'll show you two more good hiding spots in the house that I never showed to Roger-doger," she said offering her hand for him to hold.

From up the stairs, Roger called out, "Oi! I know where all your hiding spots are 'Flower'!"

Frank thought his family was the most wonderful thing in the entire world. He was confused by the funny things they did with sticks in their hands but Mum promised to explain once his birthday came.

Gringotts Blood Adoptions

Roger Scott took his two oldest children to catch the Hogwarts Express on Sunday, 1 September. With shrunken trunks, Daisy and Roger departed the family home outside London for Hogwarts Autumn Term 1985. Gwen and Frank stood in short drive beside the house until the car was out of sight. Then Gwen took her son's hand and led him back inside. At no time were they outside the powerful wards that protected the Scott family home.

Frank asked his mum several questions about 'Hoggiesnot'. Patiently, she corrected his pronunciation of the school's name and explained again about their family being 'magical' but it was a secret.

"What is magic?" asked Frank as he and his mum placed the last of the breakfast dishes into the dishwasher. Gwen began educating her son about magic while they cleaned the kitchen.

Later that afternoon, once John was home and learned about the questions that Frank had been asking, he turned to his wife to suggest, "Why don't we schedule a time to visit Diagon Alley and take Frank to see the goblins in Gringotts?"

"What are goblins? What is Gringotts? What is Diagon Alley?" asked Frank in rapid succession. The couple spent an hour sharing answers to Frank's questions.

"So, I'm a wizard and I can do magic?" the boy asked.

"Yes," John replied. "When you're eleven, you're magical core will stabilize and we'll buy you a wand. Then you will go to Hogwarts like Daisy and Roger."

"Will they be there?"

"No, they'll be grown but you'll make friends and come home for holidays like Daisy and Roger."

Frank frowned and asked, "Did you and Mum go to Hogwarts?"

"Yes, we did," John replied. "That's where I met your Mum. I was in Ravenclaw and Mum was in Hufflepuff. Daisy is in Ravenclaw and Roger is in Hufflepuff."

Gwen called for an end to the questions for a while – it was time for supper and she reminded Frank that he could ask more questions later.

The next day, John dressed in his regular clothes but then pulled out a long 'dress' from his closet and a funny hat that he put on. He made a production out of pulling out his wand and waving it around to make some of the items in the room float and move about. This entertained Frank and made him laugh so loud that Mum came into the room and giggled too.

"What you wearing, Dad?" Frank asked.

His mum explained, "This is how lots of wizards in Britain dress every day."

"They wear dresses?" asked the intelligent boy.

John explained, "This morning, I have to go to the bank and schedule an appointment for Mum and me to take you to see the goblins. There's a special spell the goblins can cast that will make me and mum even more your parents."

"Aren't you my parents now?" Frank asked, a bit of doubt in his voice.

Gwen knelt and hugged him close before saying, "Frank Scott, you are my boy! Your dad is your father for the rest of your life! This spell will give you some of our looks – maybe Dad's hair or my eye colour."

"Okay," the boy replied but welcomed his dad's hug before the wizard stood up straight.

"Now stand with your mum outside the circle in the floor and watch," John instructed his youngest son.

Frank watched as Dad, wearing the funny dress that reached to the floor and the hat that fell over on one side of his head, pulled out his wand and began to twist around before he simply vanished with a small pop.

"Dad!" called Frank. He turned to his mother and asked, "Mum, where did Dad go? Is he okay?"

"He is fine," said Gwen before she sat in a chair and pulled Frank into her lap to explain. "Dad used a spell called apparate to move from our basement to a room at Gringotts Bank. He'll talk to the goblins and then come back home using the same spell before he goes to work."

"How long will it take?"

Gwen smiled and said, "I imagine five or ten minutes. Let's sit here and wait for him to apparate back into our house. Okay?"

"Yes!" Frank agreed quickly and leaned back against his mum's shoulder to wait for his dad to return.

When Dad returned, Frank leaned he would go to meet goblins and other wizards in just over two weeks, on 19 September.

Off to Visit the Goblins

On the morning of 19 September, Frank rose from bed without much encouragement from Mum. Today, he would see other wizards and goblins. Gwen quickly located the appropriate robes to wear but wasn't prepared for Frank to collapse in laughter when he saw Mum and Dad in dresses again. When Mum held out a robe for him to put on over his clothes, he looked at Dad who snickered and said, "Frankie, all the guys have to wear these things. Roger has to wear one all day at Hogwarts."

"Can I wear it at Halloween then? Can I go trick-or-treating like the other kids this year?" were Frank's only concerns before he pulled on the robe over his long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans. Gwen used her wand to transfigure Frank's trainers into more appropriate wizarding shoes and faithfully promised her son that the spell would wear off overnight.

"I like my blue trainers. Daisy says they are 'smart'," insisted Frank.

John and Gwen walked into an empty room in the basement of the house and explained that they would use the apparate spell to move instantly from their house to a special bank with magical people called goblins working there.

"Now, listen carefully," Gwen said catching Frank's eye. "If you get separated from me and Dad, the goblins will ask you for your name and our name."

Frank smiled proudly as he replied, "I tell them that my name is Franklin Hatcher Scott. My parents are Mr. John Scott and Mrs. Gwen Scott."

"Very good son," John replied as he took Frank into his arms. "Now, hold on to me tight and close your eyes. It'll feel funny for only a moment."

The wizard apparated to the bank. Gwen appeared a moment later beside her husband and son. They walked from the receiving room to the main lobby where there were no wizards or witches waiting in queues but the goblins at each desk were busy scribbling notes on parchment as they counted golden coins from various bags.

Frank could not help but stare at the strange, short men who ran this bank. Mum held his hand and whispered to him that the goblins were fierce warriors but they would protect him while in the bank.

Turning to one side, Frank asked a goblin, "Excuse me sir, is that a real sword?"

The goblin, recognizing that this must be the first time the child had seen a sword, confirmed that it was indeed a real, sharp sword. The boy did not seem upset that a goblin, a creature from muggle fairy tales, was talking with him. Then Frank returned his attention to his Dad.

"How can Gringotts aid you today, wizard?"

"We have an appointment to consult with a goblin magic user about performing a blood adoption of my new son."

The goblin glanced at Frank who smiled at the goblin and showed his teeth, an appropriate greeting for a child to give a goblin – Frank's teeth were not fangs and this assured the goblin the child was helpless.

"Do you have the funds to pay for the consultation?"

"We do."

"Very well," the goblin said and pressed his nails against a sequence of runes on his desk. The family waited for almost two minutes before a goblin arrived to escort them deep into the bank. There the family entered a goblin office that appeared carved from solid stone and prepared for the taller wizards to meet with short goblins. The goblin bowed and introduced himself as Axeblood.

After producing the paperwork that proved that John and Gwendolyn Scott were the adoptive parents of 'Frank Doe' in the muggle world, the goblin in a set of robes that looked much more comfortable than the one Frank wore, turned to the boy and asked, "Young Mr. Frank, Mr. John and Mrs. Gwen want to become your parents in every sense of the word. Would you like that too?"

"Yes please," Frank replied. "Dad plays football with me and Roger. Daisy and Mum make biscuits for me to eat. We have lots of hugs and kisses."

"This child is brimming with magic. Where did you get him?" asked Axeblood when he turned his attention back to the adults.

"He was deserted at a muggle casualty office at a hospital in Surrey, not two hours from the centre of London," replied John.

"We haven't seen any manifestation of magic in Frank in the two months he has been with us except that he has a very strong notice-me-not when he wants to hide," added Gwen.

Axeblood, a goblin magic user, nodded his head to indicate that he understood the two statements but then he said, "I suggest that we include an ancestry test for the boy before the adoption. I see a tremendous amount of magic already available to him. He is extremely powerful already at age five and we must make certain that his adoption doesn't leave you–or Gringotts–in an embarrassing situation…"

Very quickly, the magic user pulled potions, parchment and a magical pin from a drawer in his desk. The goblin looked at Frank and explained carefully about pricking a finger and dropping three drops of blood on the parchment.

"Let's do me first," John offered. "Frank can see that nothing bad happens when this fellow pricks my finger."

The boy watched carefully as Axeblood used a pin to stick Dad's finger and then Mum squeezed out three drops of blood that fell upon the parchment. Then the goblin poured out the potion on the parchment and Frank stared mesmerized as his father's name appeared and then more names appeared above it leading back to someone named Charles Stuart with a crown upon his name.

"Now, young Mr. Scott, this is your father's family tree that goes all the way back to a king named Charles II. Once we complete a magical adoption, you will become a member of a magical family with direct connection to royal blood," the goblin said.

Frank was not certain what that meant but the goblin's words made Dad smile with pride so the boy decided it was a good thing. When the goblin stuck out his hand with a pin in it, Frank bravely offered his finger. Once he was stuck, Mum helped him to squeeze three drops of blood onto the parchment and then Frank watched the goblin pour the potion out once again.

A name immediately appeared and Frank heard his mum and dad both take a sudden, deep breath. The goblin said, "Well, well, well…Gringotts wondered what happened to you Mr. Potter. It appears that the great and powerful Oz is not as all seeing as he pretends to be."

Frank looked at his dad and then his mum. He frowned because they both looked scared and shocked. He glanced back at the parchment that had scared his parents and stared. John and Axeblood both noticed that the parchment began to smoke as it was about to ignite.

Gwen simply took Frank in her arms and held him close, whispering, "Mummie has you. Mummie loves you and you are safe."
