Spontaneous Magic

This Harry Potter story was written for fun. All rights belong to the wonderful lady (JK Rowling) who gave the world Harry Potter to read and enjoy. Love the movies showing again on TV for the holidays.

++***++ Introduction:

Accidental magic is a problem for all young wizards and witches, especially when they are distressed or scared. Freak begins to despair at age five because no one notices him or cares for him. When he is taken from his cupboard and knows 'Aunt Tuna' and 'Unc Vern' plan to desert him at a hospital, the small boy's fear causes his magic to react spontaneously.

Being adopted into a magical family in England gives 'Frank' the love and safety he needs to stave off expression of uncontrollable magic. His adoptive parents learn a great deal about their son when they blood adopt him using the services of the Goblins.

In 1991, when Frank boards the Hogwarts Express, he meets many children who believe that 'Harry Potter' is dead. His adventures at Hogwarts create many situations where his powerful uncontrollable magic reacts.

This story should be twelve chapters long, ending in sixth year without any romantic relationships in place but lots of magic thrown about. The Weasleys really won't figure in the story very much but Neville, Hermione and Luna will be friends. Dumbledore (BASH), Sirius (BASH), and Pureblood characters (BASH BASH) to help move the story along.

Chapter 05 The Adoption

John looked at his wife who was lost for a moment before she sat in a chair and continued to hold Frank in her arms. The wizard moved to place himself between his wife and 'son', and the goblin. Very wisely, Axeblood remained in his chair and made no sudden moves to challenge the wizard as the parchment cooled and curled up from the exposure to heat.

"Mr. Scott, I am your advisor and nothing we discuss here today will be shared with anyone except for Ragnock, the king of the Gringotts Tribe."

"Ragnock?" asked John. "Does he have to be told?"

"Oh yes. The goblin tribe threatened the wizards with war because the insurrection by the self-styled Dark Lord closed so many vaults. At the end of the war in October 1981, we were forced to close the Potter vaults and the Black vaults. Our stock market crashed and we have not recovered yet because no one from those two families was available. Thankfully LeStrange is in prison and Lucius Malfoy's attempts are blocked by his marriage contract. Old Antares Black knew the wizard was ambitious and included many clauses to block Malfoy from getting the Black family wealth."

The goblin paused and took a deep breath before saying, "And old Twinkle-Goat made himself the guardian of Heir Potter before he tried to take over the Black family vaults when Heir Black went to prison. Gringotts blocked the old man from most of the wealth but Dumblefore is able to raid the education vault for the boy and drain it dry the first day of August each year."

"Dumble…" John began to reply when Axeblood interrupted him.

"That infernal wizard copied He-Who-Must-not-be-Named and placed a jinx on his name that makes the speaker adore the wizard whenever they use his name," the goblin said. "Gringotts has a counter jinx on it that makes the speaker feel stupid. We strongly suggest that no one use the name."

"That's why you call him all those different names," Gwen realized. She added, "The headmaster reported that Harry Potter was safe and well-hidden."

John added, "But Frank was abandoned by whoever had him. The hospital reported that he was dressed in rags and didn't know his name."

Axeblood wanted to ask more questions but the look on the boy's face kept him from beginning an interrogation. He did say, "The old fraud started the 'boy-who-lived' legend and promised to update everyone once a year."

John and Gwen exchanged looks while Frank snuggled as close to his mum as possible. John put his hand on his son's shoulder and leaned close enough to kiss the boy's forehead. He promised his son, "Mum and Dad will keep you safe."

Gwen asked, "What will Ragnock say about this adoption?"

The goblin winced and admitted, "You can force me to go forward with the adoption before I tell him. Or if you will allow, I shall go him now, tell him that you have rescued Heir Potter and beg him to attend the blood adoption."

"Will that make better?"

"In November of that year, Dumbledick spoke to Ragnock as if he were a new-born pup rather than one of the most powerful goblins in the world. Ragnock will witness the proper and legal blood adoption…"

The goblin paused and then continued, "In fact, I shall suggest that Ragnock himself perform the spell. Then for anyone to question or challenge the adoption will bring Gringotts into conflict with them."

Gwen caught John's eye and nodded her head. John Scott turned to Axeblood and said, "The Scott family will count it a favour of great importance if this can continue today."

With a tray of tea and biscuits provided for the family to enjoy while they were alone, Axeblood left his office to seek the counsel of Ragnock, King in Gringotts Bank.

Gwen recovered from hearing the shocking news and with Frank in her arms, spoke softly to her husband. Hearing his wife's calm voice, John prepared a cup of tea with sugar and lots of milk that Gwen shared with her son as she tempted him with a pair of sweet biscuits. The wizard fixed his own cup and after a sip or two, looked at his wife and son with a smile on his face.

"We never met the Potters. We'd left school before they were first years," he stated. "But I was thinking we should leave Britain before that Halloween."

"Magical Britain called it a miracle but it was a terrible sacrifice," Gwen said. "And our boy is not going to be swept up in any legend or wild story."

John nodded and said, "I think we must talk to MI-5 though. The goblins will keep our secrets but I want some trustworthy people to know the truth. You can't keep something like this secret from everyone."

Gwen looked doubtful and after a moment suggested, "Okay, but I suggest we wait until Frank turns eleven. Dairy and Roger will be full grown then too. We'll have six years for Frank to grow strong and happy before we tell him…"

"When is Frank's birthday anyway?" John asked and then answered, "It'll be today when we adopt him here at the bank."

The wizard thought some more before he said, "I think we should share the news with him when he is ten years old and I'll tell our friends at MI-5 then."

"A full year to prepare before Hogwarts then," Gwen said.

The door to the office opened and Axeblood returned with a single goblin though John noticed the legion of goblins with spears and axes in the hallway behind them before the door closed.

Ragnock was an older goblin but he was dressed in a fine suit of clothes that appeared to have been sewn by the best tailors in London though fitted for a child of ten or so years of age.

John rose from his seat and bowed to the new goblin though Gwen remained seated to hold a drowsy Frank in her arms.

"Welcome John Scott and family," Ragnock stated. He stepped closer to examine the boy, his eyes going wide as he felt/saw some of the magic in the child.

"How long have you had the child in your home?" he asked.

Gwen replied, "In the muggle world, Frank became our son at the end of July after being with us for most of the month. He is our boy and we are his parents."

John remained silent but Ragnock nodded his head. "The boy's name is 'Frank' now? And from Axeblood's story, he knew nothing of his family, name or history before coming to you?"

"That is correct," John confirmed.

Ragnock grabbed a biscuit off the tray and nibbled on it as he wandered about the room for a moment.

Axeblood murmured, "The king is thinking about how to use this situation to protect the child while best helping the bank. Goblins abhor neglect or abuse of a pup of our own and even the children of nasty wizards."

After two minutes, Ragnock said, "John and Gwen Scott, Gringotts will perform the blood adoption of your son this very hour. Thereafter, he will be magically and legally your child. His patrimony will be unlocked but protected by confidentiality while restoring the economy of Gringotts Bank. We shall see to it that his wealth grows stupendously."

Exchanging glances with his wife, John said, "We have no need of our son's money."

"Excellent. With nothing flowing out from Gringotts, there'll be no trail of breadcrumbs to follow. This will allow me to personally chop off Dumblesquat's greedy fingers the next time he enters the bank and tries to steal money."

Gwen asked, "Since there are no records of where Frank came from…can you force that wizard to prove he spent any money to support…"

"Can you embarrass the old fart and force him to return all the money he stole?" asked John when his wife was unable to continue.

Ragnock glanced at Axeblood and said, "I believe the Scott parents will make excellent parents and guardians of the Potter-Black wealth until young Franklin is a wizard-grown. Axeblood, arm yourself for battle with He-Who-Twinkles-and-Lies. Serve him with writs and lawsuits, drain his vaults, confiscate his robes, and destroy his image."

As Ragnock prepared to perform the blood adoption while Gwen gently woke her son from his short nap.

"Mummie…" Frank said as he woke.

"There's my boy," she said as she helped him to stand and used a napkin to wipe off his face.

With his parents standing on either side and holding one of his hands, Frank watched the new goblin ignite a piece of parchment that filled the room with the smell of roses and his magic responded, strong and sure.

The goblins both started to see the amount of power in the boy and the parents felt their son's presence touch their own magical cores. As the smell of roses faded away, Franklin Hatcher Scott, stood just a tad taller, with straight brown hair from his dad and higher cheekbones from his mum, but he still had the bright green eyes from before.

Without drawing attention from anyone in the bank, the Scott family departed for home via apparition and settled into a quiet life. That autumn, John and Gwen returned to the bank several times to receive confidential reports on the bank's progress with opening the vaults that would come to their son when he reached the age of seventeen and the status of his education vault.

The Daily Prophet reported that the Magical Exchange made a miraculous recovery beginning in the middle of September and galleons flowed once again from many vaults once closed. The Ministry for Magic was of two minds – with pressure from Lucius Malfoy and Albus Dumbledore to meddle with the ownership of several very rich vaults – and from department heads pleased to see tax revenues return to their appropriate levels.

Relatively new Minister Cornelius Fudge was persuaded by smooth words and a few bribes with promises of more galleons to lean toward pressuring the goblins to reveal how these vaults were open for business once again. Fortunately for the minister's continued existence, the department heads in the ministry and several other Wizengamot members met with him and pointed out that tax collections were once again in-line with the projections for budgetary needs.

"If you take the bribes offered by Malfoy and Dumbledore, you might have more gold in your vaults, Cornelius," Augusta Longbottom explained. "But when the goblins declare war on the ministry for violating the treaties between our peoples, you will find yourself alone in the alley some night without a galleon to your name while goblin warriors chase you down!"

Without any assistance from the ministry, Dumbledore was forced to attempt to manipulate the bankers and their rules but he was unable to find a single goblin who reveal any information about the Potter vaults when he tried to access them again in October. The supply of funds for bribes and outlandish robes was completely lost to him. After the first attempt to access the education vault was met with a ban from the bank for twelve months, the headmaster designated Deputy Headmistress McGonagall to handle all financial matters for Hogwarts.

SCENE CHANGE **++**

When Daisy and Roger came home for Christmas, the two children remarked on how much Frankie had grown and told tales of the headmaster at their school looking sad as goblins forced him to attend meetings to discuss 'expenses'.

"The old man has to wear the same robes all the time now," Daisy explained while Frank teased Roger about wearing 'dresses' at school.

"Oi, you're turn will come and I'll make pictures of you in your dress to show your girlfriends someday!" Roger promised.
