So who else started screaming at the Mandalorian finale? Cause I did.
Also this is set before season one
"Let me see."
"I said I'm fine," Sabine snapped. She wasn't fine. The wound felt like fire and ice all at once and kriff it really hurt, but there was no way she was going to let Hera know that.
"Sabine, please."
She looked at Hera. She had only met the Twi'lek a few weeks ago and she still didn't know if she could trust her. But then again you don't have much choice.
She hesitantly lowered her arms so Hera could look at the wound. The mission had started off fine. They got the cargo and were making their escape when they made a wrong turn, right into a squad of stormtroopers. One of them had gotten lucky and grazed her.
"Karabast, that looks bad."
Hera glared at him, "Not helping Zeb."
"What? I'm just saying."
"Kanan do you have a bacta patch?"
"Here."
He handed it to Hera and she gently placed it on to wound. Sabine almost wanted to cry in relief when she felt its cool touch on her side. Zeb, Kanan, and Chopper were all gathered around her and Hera, watching nervously.
"You're gonna be ok," Hera reassured her, "Chop hand me some bandages and scissors."
"Woah why do you need scissors?" Kanan asked. He looked more nervous than Sabine was.
"I need to cut away her flightsuit so I can actually see the wound, love."
"Oh, right."
"This might hurt," She warned Sabine
"Just get it over with."
Sabine hissed as Hera pulled away her suit.
"Oh kriff," Hera muttered.
"What? What's wrong?"
"The blaster didn't cauterize the wound all the way so there's a lot of blood. Get me some bandages. And some water."
Hera cleaned the wound and put a bacta patch on it before wrapping Sabine's torso with bandages. "That should work for now, help me get her upstairs."
"I can walk," Sabine said weakly.
"No you can't," Hera told her in a voice that brokered no argument.
"I'll carry her," Zeb said.
The crew made their way upstairs. Zeb was gentle, but it still took all she had not to cry out in pain every time he moved.
"Take her to my room," Hera said.
"Why?" Sabine asked.
Hera looked at her, "You can't exactly climb into a top bunk right now."
"Fair enough."
Zeb put her down on Hera's bed, "Get better soon kid."
"Sabine Wren sit down right now."
Sabine groaned, "Come on Hera I'm fine."
"You got shot. You are not fine."
"It only grazed me."
Hera glared at her.
Sabine sat at the table and started doodling on a piece of flimsy. She had been stuck in Hera's bunk for two days while her wound healed and Hera still wouldn't let her move around a lot. She had been about to go insane when Hera gave her permission to sit at the table which apparently meant she could not walk to her room to get paint.
"How are you feeling?" Hera asked, sitting down beside her.
"Better, it doesn't hurt when I breathe anymore so that's nice."
There was an awkward pause.
"What're you drawing?"
"I'm trying to draw a starbird."
"What's that?"
"It's this bird from legend. They say that it never dies, whenever it disappears its actually in the middle of a nova, being reborn from the flames. My m... I heard a lot of stories about them, growing up."
The Starbird had been her favorite story. Tristan kept getting mad at her for asking for the same story every night but she couldn't help it. It fascinated her.
"Could you teach me?" Hera asked.
"Huh?"
"To draw, could you teach me?"
Sabine looked at her, positive that she was just mocking her, but Hera actually seemed serious.
"Uh, sure. Grab a piece of flimsy."
Hera did and sat down beside her. Ignoring the weirdness of the situation, Sabine began teaching Hera just like her father taught her.
"Alright so the fist thing you need to do is draw a circle. It's kinda hard to draw freehand so you might want to trace something instead..."
"And now we're done," Sabine said, finishing off the wing of her starbird with a smile.
"Now what?" Hera asked. Hers wasn't nearly as good as Sabine's. The head was crooked and the wings were too short. Still, it wasn't that bad for her first attempt.
"Now it's time for the best part."
"Which is?"
"The color!" Sabine went to get up but Hera stopped her.
"Slow down kiddo, you got shot remember? Let me get the paint."
"Ok, it's in the drawer below my bed. Make sure you get the right type."
"There's more than one type of paint?"
Sabine just looked at her with a pained expression.
She went into Sabine's room and opened the drawer.
"We need the watercolors. They're the ones in the flat containers, not the ones in the cans," Sabine yelled.
Hera grabbed one of the containers and opened it to reveal a bunch of brightly colored rectangles, "This doesn't look like paint." She said handing them to Sabine.
"It is."
Sabine opened the pallets, "Hey Chop could you get us some water?"
The droid muttered something about fragile humans but got them the water anyway.
"Ok here's what you do, just dip your brush in the water, and then on the paint. Less water equals more color and vice versa. Got it?"
"Sure."
Sabine smiled and selected the yellow.
Hera could see why Sabine liked painting, it was calming. She wondered who taught her to paint, but figured asking would only cause Sabine to shut down again. The girl had already said more two her in the past few days than she had in the previous month. She dipped her brush in the green and began painting the wing of her Starbird.
"Don't colors have specific meanings on Mandalore?" She asked.
Sabine nodded, "Yeah, on our armor."
"What does green mean?"
"Green represents duty, unless its light green, then it represents a lust for peace."
"What about orange and white?" She asked looking at Chopper.
"Orange represents a lust for life and white represents purity."
"Oh that sounds just like you Chop."
"I'll have you know I am the definition of innocence." Copper retorted.
Hera laughed, "Sure you are."
She looked over at Sabine's painting, "Wow, Sabine that's incredible." The tip of the bird was purple. It faded into pink then red and then orange. Sabine was adding yellow onto the bottom.
"Thanks," Sabine said sheepishly.
"You know I've been thinking, the walls around here really could use some more color."
Sabine's head shot up, "Really?"
Hera smiled at her excitement, "You'll have to wait until your side is better, but yes. As long as you check with me first."
She was thrown back by Sabine tackling her with a hug, "Thank you."
Hera smiled and hugged her back, "Anytime."
I made the mistake of rewatching Rebels season 4 yesterday... there were tears. Lots of tears. So naturally I decided to write a chapter of pure fluff.
