Now I said all that, but I don't even know what the objectives are besides going through canon and beating Kaguya. There's like four other things I have to do.
I took out a piece of paper out of my bag and began writing. Just to focus my mind.
I was The Gamer now. I was also Sakura for whatever reason. I was playing on Hard mode (great) and I have five main objectives to get through.
1. Find a way back.
2. Clear something. Maybe like a dungeon or some test?
3. Beat Kaguya.
4. Beat some unknown.
5. Beat some unknown.
For right now, I don't know a single way to go back yet. The only approximate I can think of would be something to do with seals. So I should probably get on learning that.
Clear.. something. I have even less information on that. Something tells me I wasn't supposed to be assigned this quest yet, since I still know absolutely nothing about what I'm supposed to do. Well, whatever.
The only thing that's clear right now is defeating Kaguya. And you do that by going through the canon story beat by beat. I wouldn't really have to change much. Sakura didn't exactly play a pivotal role in all that. But still, if there's more people I have to beat that aren't Kaguya, then I might have to prepare for someone even stronger than her.
Someone stronger than a goddess who can forcefully teleport you to another dimension.. Wait, there's something in that. Maybe I can learn how she does that, and transfer that knowledge into a way to bring myself back. It's a possibility, so that's the route I should be going on.
That means following canon, and growing stronger. Growing much stronger.
That's clear. Direct and simple. Something I can focus on. Now what's step one in doing that?
"Remember, class. Your graduation exams are just six months away! Make sure to study hard, and train even harder!" Iruka-sensei proclaimed.
Graduation means the start of canon. To be in team 7, I'd need to be top kunoichi. Right now, I'm far from that. So I'll have to find a way to get stronger.
Quest Initialized.
[Main Quest]: Graduate from the Leaf Ninja Academy!
Description: To get the headband, you'll have to pass the written test, perform the three academy jutsu, and show passable skill in taijutsu.
Bonus: To get top kunoichi, you'll have to do better in these categories than any other girl.
Success: Konoha Genin Status, 5000 exp. Konoha Headband (common).
Bonus: Gain a spot on Team 7. 3000 exp.
Failure: Have to repeat the year.
Accept?
Y/N
I clicked yes immediately.
Perfect. Now what? Oh, we're dismissed for lunch.
Numbly, I picked up my stuff and took it with me outside. Most of us had already grown out of playing ninja on the grounds, instead just bunching up in groups and talking to each other. If you were smart, you got in some extra training or studying.
Sasuke was doing just that, with a group of admirers not so subtly checking him out a few meters away from him. Ino had already joined them, and this body's memory said I used to be one of them as well.
Hah. Sorry, but lusting after a minor? Not on my to-do list anytime soon. Or ever. Thank you very much. Steered myself away from that.
Naruto? Naruto was sitting on his swing, looking lonely. Dang, that looks sad. The thing is, should I engage? I still have some things to figure out. Eh, I have time to do both. Both is good.
Skills, I thought as I sat down next to his tree.
Gamer's Mind (Passive) lvl. Max: Allows the user to calmly and logically think things through. Allows peaceful state of mind. Immunity to psychological status effects.
Gamer's Body (Passive) lvl. Max: Grants a body that allows for the user to live the real world like a game.
Observe (Active) lvl. 4: Allows the user to see the stats of another person. Higher levels lead to more detail.
Basic Chakra Manipulation (Passive) lvl. 3: Able to form chakra by mixing spiritual and physical energy together. Allows for the use of jutsu. Modifier: +(lvl.) to Wis stat.
Bukijutsu (Passive) lvl. 2: Ability to use weapons, most commonly kunai and shuriken.
Substitution Jutsu (Active) lvl. 4: Allows the user to switch with an inanimate object to avoid an attack. Current MP use: 200 MP.
Acrobatics (Passive) lvl. 1: Ability to do flips, kicks, jumps, and more. Anything that requires you to move your body in an acrobatic way. Modifier: +(lvl.) to Agi stat.
These are pretty terrible, aren't they. Yup, pretty terrible. The only thing that's changed so far is my Observe skill leveling up to 4. Which, if I could apply the same growth rate to the other skills, says a lot about how much Sakura actually cared about training any of these.
That was gonna change from now on. First,
"So why are you sitting here all sad instead of training?"
Naruto, who had been giving me his bemused face for the past thirty seconds as I sat down next to him, didn't answer.
"What? Are you scared to answer or something?" That seemed to get him out of his daze.
"Heck no! Uzumaki Naruto isn't scared of anything dattebayo!" He stood up, pointing at himself all dramatically. Well that was an unwarranted response. Just roll with the punches.
"Okay. So answer the question then."
He opened his mouth a few times, but no voice came out. His eyes roamed for a reason to not be doing anything right this second. "Well I don't see you training either!"
"Don't you wanna become Hokage tho? As far as I know, a bum can't be Hokage. You'd have to actually train for it." I said, giving him a look.
He glared at me. "Well, I'll show you! I can so be Hokage!"
He started running through some kata. Right fist, left fist. Stance one, to stance two.
"That looks wrong." Naruto pretended to fall over at my comment. How cartoonish.
Even from my limited perspective (there was no actual taijutsu skill I noticed) this body's memory did have recollection of going through taijutsu classes for the Standard Konoha Form. And this wasn't it. By a long shot.
"What do you mean that looks wrong! I'm doing it, right!?"
"There's no way that's actually what you've been taught. That doesn't even look close to taijutsu."
"Well I'd like to see you doing it then!"
Yeah no. "Yeah no. I don't actually know any taijutsu."
"How do you know I'm doing it wrong then!?" Does this guy have any other volume than 'loud'?
"It's obvious. Who were you even taught by?" Before this year, a lot of us were in different classes. Due to the (insanely) high dropout rate of the Academy, later classes tend to get smushed together. I hadn't seen much of Naruto until now.
"Mizuki-sensei of course! Who else?" Oh, now I see the problem. He was sabotaged. So those fan theories were true? What does that say for everything else he's learning?
"Yeah that's not gonna cut it. Look, how about we get Iruka-sensei to show us the correct kata after school today?" I offered.
"Aww, more school?! After school?!" He whined. Seriously? Was he always this annoying in the series?
Yes. Yes he was. It often gets forgotten, but especially early on in the show he's not much more than an annoying lazy brat who complains too loudly. But I know what he'll become and that's good enough for me. It'll have to be.
"Of course. Can you imagine a Hokage who can't do taijutsu? I certainly can't. I'd never acknowledge one who can be beaten in hand-to-hand by any common burglar. Would you?"
"Hecckk no!"
"So! I'll see you after school then?" I held his gaze very purposefully. Don't break no promises now.
"O-of course! I'll see you after school then! By the gates."
Perfect.
"Sakura, what were you doing talking to that Naruto kid?" Ino asked me as soon as were back in the classroom. "Sasuke did a backflip today! It was so cool! You should have seen it."
Right. This is a thing. "You'll see, Ino. I have my reasons."
She gave me a suspicious look. "Okayyy."
The rest of the day went by pretty lamely. I used Observe a few more times, to no avail. Seems I don't get any experience from people I've already scanned. That's reasonable enough.
The bell rang, and I gave Naruto a very pointed look as everyone began leaving.
Walking up to the podium I stopped Iruka from packing up his stuff with a little wave. Come on, Sakura. Use all of that 9 Charisma!
"Hey Iruka-sensei! Class today was great. Very informative." I smiled. Hopefully pleasantly. "But you see, Naruto and I were wondering if you could help us with something." Naruto, who had begrudgingly walked over to us, continued the prompt.
"Ne, sensei! Can you teach us the taijutsu kata thing?" Uncouth, but..
Iruka sighed. "What do you mean, Naruto? Shouldn't you already know how to do the Standard Konoha Taijutsu?"
"Yeah but Sakura said I'm not good at it and so we want to learn more." Way to throw me under the bus!
Iruka looked kind of pleased. I imagine students don't ask for extra help very often. "Alright then! Let me get ready really quick, and I'll meet you at the Academy Training Grounds."
Heh. Success. There's a reason I roped Naruto into this. Asking a teacher day of whether or not you can spend more time on the material is usually grounds for immediate dismissal. But Iruka has a weak spot for Naruto, so I'd hoped that would help me with it. This was easier than I thought, though.
We made our way to the back of the school, where a large plain of land for training was curbed by the endless expanse of trees behind it.
I started stretching. Didn't hurt to be prepared. Naruto was still sulking, just watching me stretch at this point. I let him.
Iruka-sensei came out with a bunch of files in his arm. "Alright children. Let's start learning!"
I jumped up. Finally! I was going to be learning actual ninja stuff. Despite myself I couldn't keep in my excitement and hopped in place a little. "Ready when you are, sensei."
He grinned. "Good! First, we'll start with breathing exercises."
What?
I can't believe this. It's been half an hour, and the only thing we've done is stand around and breathe. He showed us a few stances, but as of yet nothing else.
I can't believe he made beating people up boring! No wonder Naruto wasn't looking forward to this, this is torture!
"Remember kids, the Konoha Standard is all about balance. If you're fighting in the trees, it can get very easy to confuse up from down, so having a solid center is very important."
I breathed. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. PleasetellmeIcandosomethingelsesoon In. I'mreallysickofthiswhydidIsignupforthis Out. In. Out. In. Out—
"Good! I think that's sufficient for now. Now let's run you through the first round of kata, shall we? Copy my movements. Afterwards, we'll adjust as necessary."
He took the first stance he showed us. Legs two feet apart, arms raised, palms open. He pulled back right. Fist balled up. Extend. Pulled back left. Fist balled up. Extend. Repeat. Cross arms for blocking. Back to pulling back right.
Okay. Kind of basic. I copied his movements tit for tat. It was fairly easy, and with just a little correcting of the footwork I got this.
With repeated actions, the skill: Konoha Standard Taijutsu (Passive) was created.
Konoha Standard Taijutsu (Passive) lvl.1: The basic taijutsu that every Konoha nin knows. It allows for punches, kicks, blocks, and most importantly, dodging in a three dimensional space. Modifier: +(lvl.) to Str stat.
Just as I got the skill, the kata became second nature. I didn't have to think about it anymore. It just happened. Meanwhile, Naruto..
"No, not like that! Remember to keep space between the legs." Naruto's body lagged. "And don't stop breathing Naruto! Honestly it isn't that hard!"
They were having a grand old time. Should I interfere? Or leave it?
"Naruto, right first!" Oh fine.
"Umm, Iruka-sensei. Can I try something?"
They both looked at me confused. "Umm. Well if you think it'll work."
I take that as a yes then. "Just keep running through it, Naruto."
He did, hesitatingly. And yep, it was bad. A whole year of wrong habits will do that to you. I grabbed his arm while he was still moving it. "Don't stop." I said, when he flinched a bit. He wasn't used to being touched. That's a little sad.
I adjusted his arm when he punched, going along with the motion I knew instinctively now. Went through that a couple times. Next, left arm. Right, then left. Then I grabbed his feet and did the same adjustment.
It was pretty obvious Naruto was a tactile learner. He'd need to be able to do it himself before he got anywhere with anything more advanced, especially for something he had to unlearn first.
Right after the adjustments were made, the form looked even better than how I did it. It was honestly a bit creepy how good it was.
"Okay. Well. I guess we'll move on to the next one, then."
I smiled. "Of course, sensei."
"That was awesome! We have to do that again!" Naruto exclaimed.
The sun was going down now. We had been going at it for a while now. I had learned plenty too. Konoha Standard Taijutsu was lvl.4 now after all that. That's a lot better than I anticipated. Maybe this whole getting stronger thing wouldn't be that hard.
But Naruto though. He was on a whole other league. After the first basic form, and some more correcting after that, he took to it faster than I did! He has a real talent for taijutsu it appears.
Iruka-sensei was probably a little creeped out by how fast we were both getting it. We were already moving on to doing the kata in the trees and moving from one branch to another when he decided to call it quits.
I felt really good about today. And the best part? I wasn't even tired. I had sweated through the heavier exercises, but I didn't feel the least bit of fatigue about half an hour after the fact. Is this part of The Gamer's Body? I could get used to that. I could certainly get used to that.
"Yeah we do. Maybe we can have Iruka-sensei show us some more tomorrow again."
Naruto was equally unfazed by the hours of exercise. Though that's probably the Uzumaki part of him. "Yeah yeah! Let's do it dattebayo!" He jumped in place, fist up like Mario.
I chuckled to myself. "See you tomorrow, Naruto." I walked off. I didn't tell my parents about today so they're probably worried about where I've been. Let's just hope I get there by twilight at least.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow.. Uhmm…" I turned around.
"Yes?"
He looked lost. Like he had taken a turn too many. "What's your name?"
Huh? How does he not know my name? I looked through this body's archives of memories, flipping any relevant part about Naruto thoroughly. We had never interacted before.
Didn't he have a crush on Sakura in canon though? Was that a new thing? They seemed to know each other before then. Strange.
"My name is Sakura. Haruno Sakura. Hajimemashite." I added, a little dryly.
"Oh! Oh okay. Can I ask you a question?" He asked. More weight in his voice than I've heard from him all day. Consequently, it was the quietest he's been all day too.
"Go for it."
"Why did you talk to me today?" At my raised eyebrow he raised he held his hands up suddenly. "I mean, not that I didn't want you to! It's just… No one ever talks to me. I was just wondering…"
That's.. A good question. Is it because he's Naruto? The protagonist of the whole thing? The guy the show's named after? Because I would become friends with him eventually anyway? Because it would be expedient? Because it would be easier to get him on my side early? Surely all of those are good reasons. But you could say the same for most of those with Sasuke too. He's almost as important in defeating Kaguya long-term. Yet I didn't try that. It would even be in-character. So why did I choose Naruto?
The wind blew some of the leaves through the air. Well. "Because I know what it's like to be alone for something you can't control." That was my honest answer. I saw more of myself in Naruto the orphan more than I did with Sasuke, the popular avenger. Even if he didn't have any parents either. These kinds of things don't tend to make sense. I wish it did.
Anyways, that's enough sensitivity for today. "I'll see you tomorrow Naruto." I walked away. I didn't want to have to deal with much more of that for right now.
I got home, said hi to my parents (I'll never get used to that) and made my way up. The first thing I saw after putting down my bag was myself in the mirror.
They were right. My hair was a mess. I looked more like Jiraiya than Sakura. I took a deep long look in the same eyes that were supposed to be mine.
They were really pretty. I mean, gorgeous. I realize I'm technically hyping myself up here but I haven't seen eyes like this since—
Since Her.
Like a bucket of cold water, I suddenly felt a lot colder and more uncomfortable in my skin.
I wasn't Sakura. I had no idea what had happened to the real her, or if she was even a thing, or something else. All I know is that I am her now, and I don't particularly feel bad about that.
But I wasn't Sakura. I needed something to differentiate myself from her. Something that would make the mental divide easier.
The hair. The hair was too long. Practically, if I was going to be a ninja, It'd be better to have it cut shorter. Long hair gets in the way. Only the strongest of kunoichi have long hair. It's practically a symbol of strength. I wasn't strong. Not yet.
"Mom! Can you help me with something?"
I was back at the mirror again. My hair was short. Close to boyishly short. Shorter than Sakura had it to the point where it looked unnatural. Different. Exactly how I wanted it.
I sighed. That's one issue taken care of. I took a whiff of myself. Oof. No. A shower it is then.
I stepped into the bathroom, having taken a towel out of my closet and then stopped.
…..
I stood there for a loooong time.
I sighed louder. Where's my blindfold? This might get painful.
Thank God this body doesn't bruise. I thought as I sat down for breakfast. I'd had to go to the bathroom again this morning, along with changing my clothes. It hadn't gone well.
The upside is that I got a new skill.
With repeated actions, the skill: Blind Maneuvering (Passive) was created.
Blind Maneuvering (Passive) lvl.2: Allows the user to complete daily tasks without looking. At higher levels, combat starts becoming feasible entirely blind.
I can't tell if the game is mocking me or helping me. I decided it was both.
"Mom, Dad, I'll be out late again today. Don't wait up for me." It was still awkward, trying to talk to actual parents. I had memories of them, but it was cognitively still a challenge.
Coming to the academy I met up with Ino who, after seeing me immediately started screaming. Ow.
"Sakura! What did you do to your hair?!" I knew this was gonna be a problem as soon as I walked through that door.
"I cut it. It got in the way in training yesterday, so I got rid of it."
"But. But. But what about Sasuke-kun?! You know about the rumor don't you?!" How do I approach this? Ah screw it. In for a penny, in for a pound.
"I'm not interested in Sasuke-san anymore. You can keep him." I told her, taking a seat at the table.
She was still standing over me, eyes and mouth wide open, practically waiting for a fly to get in.
I didn't pay her much mind. There was someone much more interesting that just walked in.

Did he skip breakfast? Also, The Game doesn't seem to like him very much. The tone gives it away. His stats are also fairly low for his level. Is that a trend for when your levels get higher? Does growth slow down? I'll need more information.
"Ne, Sakura! We're not done here yet! You can't just tell me that and then ignore me!" I motioned for her to sit down.
"Ino, class is starting."
But seeing Mizuki here does bring up a valid question. Should I leave Naruto to fail his exam? He won't be prompted to learn the Shadow Clone Jutsu without it and that's like. His thing. A lot of his later techniques rely on him being able to use that jutsu. At the same time, it doesn't feel good to let him fall like that, and possibly get him hurt.
So? What do I do? Rewrite canon, or leave it as is?
The fact that I don't know the answer to that scares me.
Class went on like that until lunch, where I took the long way out of Ino's questioning and practiced kata with Naruto. He was shocked to see me back again. He told me people who try to befriend him one day usually get cold and distant the next. I was the only who didn't.
Wonderful. Amazing. Spectacular.
Evil. This place has some seriously messed up idea of what justice is supposed to be. Taking out all their anger on a kid like this, it irks me in the wrong way.
There's not much little old lvl.5 me can do about that however, so I'm gonna have to keep quiet. For now.
"Okay class, I want you all to get ready for today's physical training. I'll be tracking your progress from last week, so make sure to give it your all."
Mmm. He's gonna be disappointed. Aside from yesterday's martial arts training I haven't actually gotten any stronger or faster. That's not good. I'll have to find a way to level up, and fast.
I gathered my stuff back into my bag and made my way over to the training grounds.
Let's see. In games, you usually level up by beating monsters and other characters right? Except I'm not going to be doing much of that anytime soon. The other, already proven way, is through quests. But the only quests I have are the long-term kind. Not likely to give me anything right this second. So what's left?
Mizuki came out this time with a bulletin board, taking a measuring look at the gaggle of students that gathered outside. "Class, if you could start with pushups?"
We all started slowly getting down on the same rhythm. Up, then down. Makes it easier for the teachers to track how many we can do.
After about 45 I really started to feel it. 60 and I had to tap out. Ugh. Pathetic. Most everyone else still kept going, much to my chagrin.
With repeated strength training, your Str. stat went up by 1.
Wait, seriously? That's possible? Don't you usually need some kind of supplement to raise your stats in game? I wonder how far I can push this. Where's my Str. at right now?

Yeah right, Game. "Carefully optimistic" my behind.
Still. 8 Str…. Wait, didn't my MP just go up? Didn't it used to be 750? How does that work?
Think Sakura. You have time, they're still doing push ups, the bastards.
Chakra is made up of both spiritual and physical energy. Logically, that would mean that both my physical and mental stats would make up my MP, which is essentially my chakra reserves.
My strength used to be 3. Mmmm. What if— 3+12=15. Divided by 2. You get 7.5 or 750. 4+12=16. Divide that by 2, you get 8 or 800. Well that's.. Actually very simple math. Let's test that.
Observe.

His strength is 27. His intelligence is 32. 27+32=59/2=29.5
So the average of strength and intelligence determines MP? So what determines HP? Random values? Or hidden values, like IV's? There doesn't seem to be any easy math I could infer on that. My strength level also doesn't factor in the bonus I get from the Konoha Standard Taijutsu modifier either.
This gets stranger and stranger.
"Next, sit ups."
We all got ready. Up, and back. Up, and back. I knew Sakura's limit from last time was closer to 50. This time I got to 65. That's a serious improvement with just one extra strength stat. I was still far behind everyone else. My arms don't feel tired anymore, though. Does that mean I can train them again? Thank you Gamer's Body.
I broke formation to do exactly that. The sensei didn't mind. They already had my number down. The only thing they needed still was top speed.
I began on pushups again. I got to 75 this time before I had to stop. Then back to sit ups. Next, I tried squats. Then, the dreaded burpees.
With repeated strength training, your Str. stat went up by 1.
Heh. Heh. Hahaha. Hahahahahaha! You're serious?! I can just keep on training?! No fatigue, no nothing. Just training. This is incredible! Do I even need to level up at this point?
"Sakura, you're up."
Does strength also affect my speed? Let's find out. Her previous limit was 24 kilometres an hour. That's fast for a normal human, but for a ninja? You may as well be crawling.
"Ready, set, go." I took off. My feet hitting the ground, and as fast as I could get them, moving on to the next step. I reached the finish line.
"24 and a half." That's.. Almost no change. Certainly not the drastic one I got from strength training. My speed is probably mostly tied to my agility stat, which is 7. Still have a long way to go then.
"That's all for today, class. You're dismissed to go home." Mm. Okay. That just leaves more training time for me.
Naruto rushed up to me. "Hey Sakura-chan! Can I call you Sakura-chan?!"
Ino, who had been rushing to go talk to me not so subtly backed off from the situation. "Yeah sure."
"Iruka-sensei said he's gonna be busy today, so he can't train us. But he promised to help us tomorrow!" Mm. He didn't comment on my hair. Is that a good or a bad sign?
I smiled. "That's good. It means we have some time to do things on our own." Like getting that strength up. Sorry, but I'm not about to fall behind like that again.
"How about we do some more traditional training today?"
"Okay! We can go to Training Ground 76! I haven't been kicked out of that one yet!" Yet? He's getting kicked out of training grounds? For what?
"What do you mean? You get kicked out of training grounds?"
He suddenly looked sheepish, not meeting my eyes. "I gotta keep my pranking stuff somewhere, right?"
Oh I see. Another issue we're gonna have to work on. "Let's go."
Training Ground 76 was fairly basic. Just a plain open field of grass with a forest on the left and a small lake on the right. Could not get more basic than that.
"So what do you want to train?" He asked me.
"Just what we were doing at school. Strength training. Maybe some laps." I started stretching. Naruto did them with me now, copying me.
As we went through the reps I noticed he had no problem at all keeping up with me, even after hours of exercise. I get he's a stamina monster, but this is insane. In fact, he'd have to wait for me to catch up almost every ten minutes. It was embarrassing. But it was worth it for the reward, if nothing else.
With repeated strength training, your Str. stat went up by 1.
With repeated strength training, your Str. stat went up by 1.
With repeated strength training, your Str. stat went up by 1.
With repeated speed training, your Agi. stat went up by 1.
It looks like after about 8 or so, they become much harder to raise. That last Str. point took me a whole hour, and I only got one Agi point for the whole day. Needless to say, not very efficient in the long run.
Still, I liked my stats a whole lot better now. I will still need to level up by a ton to get where I need to be.
I waved goodbye to Naruto and went on my way back to my house. Passing the other training grounds I noticed something that wasn't there before. With Gamer text right on top of it.
A dark hole in a moderately sized hill.
