Where Should I File You?

Copyright 2006 by Laura Chambers

Nearly everything in my life

Seems to fit somewhere

I've got it all organized

Friends here, enemies there

I've separated my

Pencils and pens

And trust me

That's only where it begins

My life is alphabetical

Numerical, but not hysterical

And you're the only one

Who doesn't seem to fit

In my well-stocked, color-coded

Cabinet

Chorus:

Where should I file you?

Under 's' for sorrow

Or 'j' for joy

'M' for man

Or maybe 'b' for boy

Where do you belong?

It's confusing me

And I don't know

Where somebody like you

Ought to go

I really do not know

Thought I had it under control

No mess,no dust, no mildew

There's just one more on my desk

Not surprisingly, it's you

I've labeled my

Folders and notes

Put away

All the memories I wrote

My heart is really crying

I'm trying, but I'm dying

Did you know you're the only one

Who makes me change my mind

Every time I try putting you away

Here is what I find

Chorus:

Where should I file you?

Under 's' for sorrow

Or 'j' for joy

'M' for man

Or maybe 'b' for boy

Where do you belong?

It's confusing me

And I don't know

Where somebody like you

Ought to go

I really do not know

I really do not know

Where I should file you

'L' for love

Or 'h' for hate

Or maybe 't' for too, too late

I really do not know

Where I should file you
