"I miss you, you know that?"
Marisa continued to kick the pebbles at her feet, ignoring him. She'd certainly heard this one before. Did he honestly expect her to believe him this time?
Lukemoved a little closer to her. "I'll never be over you." He said quietly.
Apparently so, Marisa thought with a sigh. She took a few steps back.
"I don't want to hear it, thanks." She told him, beginning to walk away as fast as she could. She was tired of him stalking her all the time. Couldn't he just let her be?
Lukestruggled to keep up with her pace. Even though he was an athlete, he was already feeling out of breath, chasing after her.
Marisa eventually got tired and sat down on a bench to rest.Luke promptly sat down next to her.
She rolled her eyes. "Save it, Luke." She said rudely.
He attempted to scoot closer to her. "Just listen." He said, his eyes pleading. "Please?"
He was sitting so close to her that she could almost count the freckles on his nose. The closer he got to her, the more she could smell his cologne. A wave of nostalgia washed over her as she the familiar smell tickled her nostrils, reminding her of those summer afternoons she spent blowing raspberries on his tanned arms and lying on his toned stomach. Despite everything that had happened since then, she wanted nothing more then to crawl into his arms again and bury her head in his chest.
She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to make the feeling pass. As much as she wanted to be back with him, she knew this was for the best.
Defiantly, she scooted way over to the other side of the bench.
Luke could hardly hide the hurt look on his troubled face. If she would just hear him out, then maybe he could fix the problem. He knew he had made a huge mistake the weekend before. But Holly had thrown herself at him, what was he supposed to do?
"I never meant for it to be like this, I really didn't." he protested. "You know I would never hurt you intentionally. Never!"
Marisa stayed silent, smiling to herself.Days ago, she dreamed of hearing him say these words, of him wanting her back. Now it just amused her. She was over him. Slowly, she turned around so she was no longer facing him.
Lukesighed heavily. "I know you don't want to hear it now," he continued, "but you've still got my heart."
Marisa did not respond. She just flashed him her most dazzling smile, got up from the bench, and walked away from him.
