Death is something always shrouded in mystery. Everyone knows of it, most fear it and a few were unfortunate enough to have witnessed a human soul breaking into pieces or the fading into dust of a monster's soul.

The feeling of overwhelming weakness and a darkness growing as a forced sleep gripped you with unyielding force is something yet fewer have experienced, with only the luckiest have lived to tell the tale. The haunting feeling of lack of determination, of all hope being lost, of a true, cold void? Only one person was able to feel that… And wake up moments later, with a light feeling on their shoulders and a feeling of confusion as all pain was gone, alongside all anxieties, all love, all hopes and dreams.

The child was shocked and confused, but when they saw a person laying on the floor, centered upon a bed of their beloved golden flowers, hatred returned. Hatred and fear burned in their conscience, but why?

Reaching out to touch the human and the touch leaving no sensation whatsoever was the moment when Chara was horrified to recognize what was going on.

As the human then woke up after the incorporeal touch and immediately left to the adjacent room, the ghost was yanked by an invisible force and had to follow the child instead of taking time to let their new nature sink in.

"How can all this be happening? Just, who even am I? ...I can't remember anything anymore. Why does this child make me feel so hopeless?", thought Chara as the human went along a dark path leading to a lone flowerbed illuminated by a rare strain of sunlight.

The musings were suddenly interrupted after a startling sight of an oversized flower emerging from the patch and started talking.

The being introduced itself as Flowey the Flower and was acting highly suspiciously, invoking concepts like friendliness pellets or how they brought upon LOVE. Yet the child did not deduce the oddly familiar plant's ill intentions and their soul was hit head on with whatever foul magic the cruel creature used to hurt the human.

Chara had not noticed her negative feelings towards the child subside, as they instinctively reached for the stick the human was holding to attack the flower in self-defense, but it was futile. Same as before, their hand just went through the material, so Chara just gave up.

Much to the relief of their heightened senses, the flower was shooed away by a large monster with another familiar aura to her. Toriel, as she introduced herself, shone with kindness and Chara felt at ease in her presence, and felt like they could kick back and think of the implications of what happened and why they yearned to protect, yet also had a deeply rooted unnerving feeling looking at the child.

As they entered the beautiful yet somewhat neglected ruins, the purple shirted child solved puzzles with whom they later called their "goat mom" and despite Chara's urge to FIGHT, spared the monsters living in the area, be it highly confrontational cyclops or petty whimsuns fleeing at the first sight of the human. Chara admired how the child was able to avoid most harm that came to it and despite all, the hope, respect and even protective feeling for them, that was beginning to form with each ACT, only grew.

When the child wiggled with moldsmal, the first smile had returned. When they interacted with Napstablook, Chara couldn't help but feel bad for the ghost, which wished no ill on them and wondered if they were visible to the specter. They reached Toriel's house and got freshly baked cake as well as saw the tears on her face after the most dangerous SPARE yet. The nostalgic feeling and overwhelming sadness over the mere prospect of causing the monster any pain made Chara wish for the first time that things could be different and that the pain caused for her failures to keep the previous children's lives safe was reversed.

After encountering the evil flower yet again and hearing a few new threats, the child and Chara found themselves in front of the door to what lay beyond the ruins. The road ahead was very dark and eerie, with the outline of trees barely visible. As the child advanced, fear returned as a shadowy figure was following the two from a distance. Reaching a small gate on a wooden bridge, the creature held out their hand to Chara's companion, and they could have sworn they saw them winking at the ghost. That was when a bone attack hit them on the side and Chara, no longer bound to following the person they had followed for the last day, fell into a dark endless canyon.

The surrounding got darker, yet darker, and despite the incorporeal nature of Chara, they could not free themselves from the fall. Screaming soon stopped with the loss of consciousness.

Having woken up, something was off, and an accidental glance at a nearby puddle revealed something even more shocking than the realization of being dead. A reflection.

The surrounding was completely shrouded by darkness, yet vision was clear as it could get. A soft padding was present even on the walls, with a different rougher texture seen in the distance. Giant green starts were seen on the horizon, making the setting appear to have a beautiful night and a futuristic glass dome dominated the setting of the southeast.

The appraisal of this strange place Chara had landed in was then interrupted when a booming, yet regal and aristocratic laugh broke through the silence.

"Kris! I See You Have Downloaded Yourself Into This Wonderful New World", a maniacal monster of even greater height than Toriel arrived while balancing on a flying board covered in some sticky substance. "Now I Would Of Have Preferred Some Green Hills But That Went Out Of Fashion 2.790 Days Ago"

Chara looked at the patiently-waiting smiling monster and eventually realized that she was indeed talking to them, so they replied: "Uhh… Greetings, who might you be?"

"Oh No Kris Did You Catch A Virus? That's What Happens When You Surf On The Web With No Protection", the monster looked at Chara with a worried expression.

"I am afraid I don't know who Kris is. Or even what this place is. Only thing I know is that until recently..." Chara couldn't finish, as an advertising jingle played in a ear-blistering volume from somewhere below the ground.

"Are video games turning your kids into monsters? Do anime horror movies cause night terrors among single mothers? Fish out of water, the new sensation in the Vision nation! A special interview with the Bishop, open mic with Mike, Grand Theft SOUL reports and much more, tonight, only on DTV!"

"Plot Flags!" the Queen then laughed "How Exciting. Lead On Kris! The Queen Will Come Along For This Adventure"

THE QUEEN HAS JOINED THE PARTY

Chara looked confused and asked "What adventure? Where are we going?"

"To Seal The Dark Fountain Of Course. Kris Do You Need To Replay The Tutorial?"

The Queen then explained in a tiresome yet oddly entertaining way what "Blunt Boy" told her yesterday, yet Chara didn't understand why they were supposed to be the one doing all that, or what a darkner/lightner was and all their attempts to say that they weren't Kris were completely ignored by the monster. Eventually, they just gave up and set off forward, toward the glass dome.

Regardless of how bizarre the situation of waking up as a ghost and being a shadowy companion to a child in a beautiful yet familiar ruin, to being shoved into a ravine and waking up alive again, the eagerness of the Queen for Chara to lead her in this strange adventure filled them with DETERMINATION.
