Chapter 12: Surprises
DARK CONTINENT
DARK FOREST
The air was tense as everyone watched Duskmon, waiting to see what he would do. BurningGreymon looked over at the warrior of miracles, he wanted to say that this would be an easy fight, there were plenty of them and only one Duskmon but he remembered the statement earlier on.
This place was a land of darkness, which was Duskmon's element, he was stronger than all of them right now. Plus they had the new girl to get to safety, along with regaining their energy, Reinamon growls as Duskmon lifts his arm sideways with his sword drawn making everyone tense up.
"Now show me your power," Duskmon said swinging his sword making a red slash of energy fly at the group.
Everyone quickly scatters as the attack hit where they once stood, that single attack made a huge slash in the ground.
"My gods, that was just a swing of his sword!" Raijumon said shocked.
"We'll need a plan to take him on," Orokimon said making Lobomon nod.
"BurningGreymon! Distract him! We need to regroup!" Lobomon yells making the fire warrior nod and flies down at Duskmon.
He yells as he crashed into Duskmon who takes the tackle with ease, only to go wide eyes as BurningGreymon opens his mouth and blasts fire directly into his face making him back up and clutch his face. BurningGreymon then opens his mouth again.
"Smokescreen!" BurningGreymon yells as he spews out thick black smoke covering Duskmon making him cough and unable to see.
"Now!" Ryumon yells as everyone retreated, nearby Grademon grabs Merigold, Bokomon, and Neemon and followed after the group.
When the smoke settles Duskmon saw that he was alone in the forest, he looks around before putting his sword away.
"They retreated, hm, let's see what they do now," Duskmon said as he turns and left.
WITH THE GROUP
"Did he follow us?" Teresa asked as the gang took refuge inside an abandoned building, Grademon was guarding one entrance with JP watching the other entrance.
Takuya had made a fire while Davis was drawing something in the dirt with Koji and Sabrina, Zoe was looking a the girl known as Ayame Akoi, Adam's friend, and was on the train ride with him. She was still out cold, Bokomon was helping her with Adam and Neemon. Merigold was watching Davis while Daisuke was making her way over to the crouched group on the ground drawing.
"I don't see any sign of him," Grademon said with a sword drawn and ready.
"How's Ayame?" Takuya asked as he pokes the fire they managed to make before getting up and going over to Zoe.
"She's fine, just very tired," Zoe said.
"Since she was bonded longer to Arbormon than Adam was to Grumblemon it must have knocked her out for longer, more of a drain on her energy," Bokomon said as Neemon pokes at Ayame's cloths.
"It makes me wonder if the other warriors are bonded to boys or girls now," Davis said glancing over.
"Yeah, her spirits changed to female totems so maybe Cherubimon corrupted them into different genders?" Teresa asked.
"Now there's a thought, but it makes me think of something," Adam said making everyone look at him.
"Think of what uncle Adam?" Merigold asked making him chuckle at the title before going serious.
"On the train apart from myself, Ayame, and Koichi, there were two others, two more girls," Adam said as he remembered what they looked like.
"The first girl was older, she had mahogany hair kind of like the triplets, she had tanned skin and brown eyes, she looked to be 13 or 14 I can't remember, the second girl she was a bit younger I think 12 or 11? But she had short black hair and these cool grey eyes," Adam said looking up only to see the triplets looking shocked.
"That first girl sounds like our big sister, Jun Motomiya," Daisuke said with a frown.
"She's a brilliant swimmer and if she was on the train and your group was taken by Cherubimon, plus the human aura I sensed inside Ranamon," Sabrina said making Koji quickly catch on.
"So it's possible that Ranamon is bonded to your big sister?" Koji asked with wide eyes.
"Ouch," Takuya said with a wince.
"So if Ranamon is bonded to your big sister that leaves Mercurymon and Duskmon with the other girl or Koichi," JP said as Davis sighs and rubs his face.
"What a mess, let's see here," Davis mutters trying to think past the shock of their big sister being used in such a way.
"Big sister?" Merigold asked confused.
"Your auntie Jun is our big sister," Daisuke said making Merigold nod not fully understand it but she was trying.
"Let's look at the facts, Koji is the warrior of Light and you said Koichi is his twin?" Bokomon asked making Adam nod.
"So it's more than likely he is the warrior of Darkness, while the other girl could have bonded with the warrior of Steel, hm, what's her name?" Bokomon asked making Adam think for a bit.
"I think her name is Kurenai? I can't remember her last name though," Adam said feeling bad for not remembering her name.
"Well, at least we know something compared to nothing," Takuya said as he goes over to the drawing on the ground.
"Don't worry Koji, we'll save Koichi one way or the other," Daisuke said placing a hand on Koji's shoulder making him sigh but nod.
"I know, it's just...hard knowing I'm facing my own brother, one I didn't even know about until a week ago," Koji said as he pokes at the ground.
"It takes time," Davis said.
"So, what's with this drawing?" Takuya asked as Zoe and Adam came over while Teresa watched Ayame with Merigold.
"We're trying to plan an attack, there's no way we can beat Duskmon in his element head-on so we need to be sneaky," Davis said as he pokes at his drawing of a crude forest.
"Like ambush him?" JP asked.
"Sort of, we need to lure him into an open area in the forest and attack from the trees," Sabrina said as she knelt down.
"What about those eyes on his body? They were watching us," Zoe pointed out making Koji frown.
"We need a way to blind those eyes so he has to rely on the two in his head," Koji said rubbing his chin.
"Wait, what about using sand or dirt? Those would force him to keep his eyes closed," Adam said he had made an attack to do with sand and dirt.
"Augh, just thinking about sand in my eyes is making me cringe," JP said rubbing his own eyes.
"That sounds like a plan but what about his other senses?" Bokomon asked crossing his arms.
"Takuya has a smokescreen to block his sense of smell as for his hearing? Hm, Zoe didn't you make that screech attack after JP stepped on your foot?" Koji said making the blonde girl nod while JP gave a sheepish smile and rubbed his neck at that little reminder.
"Yeah, I see where you're going with this," Takuya said as Davis drew the warrior symbols in the dirt.
"Ugh," A low groan made everyone pause and look at each other before looking over as Teresa spoke up.
"She's awake!" Teresa said as Merigold cheered.
"Oh, my head," Ayame said as she sat up and opens her eyes to show light green eyes.
A glow came from Koji and Daisuke's D-tectors, from them came the Nature Spirits while a D-Tector floats out of Ayame's jacket, it was brown and green as the two spirits flew into them. Ayame blinks and accepts the D-tector as it floats back down, she looks at it before looking at the ground.
"Adam? What's going on?" Ayame asked confused making Adam chuckle.
"It's a long tale," Adam said as Bokomon and Daisuke step in to tell Ayame what happened and get her up to date.
After a little freak out on Ayame's part and her apologizing for any harm she caused, which she was forgiven since well those actions were not her own but the corrupted warrior instead, she was brought into the battle planning.
"Okay, a few change of plans, now that Ayame is awake and has her spirits she can help us by trapping Duskmon with roots or branches to render him immobile while Adam takes out his body eyes," Daisuke said as she drew a circle around the darkness symbol.
"Then Zoe comes in and muffles his hearing while Takuya dulls his smell, then we can attack from all angles," Sabrina said as she took the stick and drew everyone's symbols around the center one.
"I will be on back up if he gets loose, from what I saw he was not that fast, my speed might outdo him," Grademon said holding his chin in thought.
"After he's weakened we'll all fire our strongest attacks and hopefully this will take him down or at least put him out of it until we can get where Ophanimon wanted us to go," Takuya said as he grins.
"Sounds like a plan," Neemon said his ears twitching.
"This is all so bizarre but I follow," Ayame said as she stood up and pulled her D-tector out to look at the screen.
"Hey, it is okay if I test these out?" Ayame asked gesturing to her D-tector making everyone stand up.
"Yeah, we can all warm up before we face Duskmon," JP said with a fist pump.
"Plus Ayame can get a feel of her new inner digimon," Teresa said with a grin.
So with that in agreement the group went outside the building and spirit evolve into their human spirits, Ayame watched them do this with an awed look on her face, she then looked down at her D-tector and with a determined look she focused and let the data surrounded her as she did her first change.
INSIDE THE DATA
Behind Ayame was a black and green background, she smiled as she spun once making a data ring appear around her hand as she stops and faced forward. Her hands came together letting her D-tectors scanner hit the ring.
"Execute! Spirit Evolution!" Ayame yells throwing her arm out letting the data ring fly around her as behind her the kneeling woman in nature armor glows green and leafs fly out of it towards Ayame.
Her body glows light green as it grows bigger and into that of a grown woman, her hair flows behind her as from her back grew branches that wrapped around each other, they stopped as small flowers bloom across them. Leafs and vines then wrapped around her chest, hips, and legs making clothing and armor appear, she held up her arms as more vines wrap around her and burst to show golden armor, from her back came a green cape that reached her knees in the design of a leaf with the upper part near her shoulders being covered in leafs. Lastly, vines wrap around her forehead before making a golden tiara with leafs on it as the light green glow left her skin showing tanned skin, long red hair, and forest green eyes.
She jumps down and lands on a platform while summoning a spear-looking staff with a green gem in the middle of the hollowed tip while wrapped in branches and vines, she slams it down and yelled out her name.
"Shizenmon!" She yelled.
OUTSIDE THE DATA
"Whoa!" Shizenmon said as she looked at herself as the data fades letting everyone see her new self.
"Cool! Now that's a warrior of nature," Yukimon said.
"I feel...strong," Shizenmon said looking around, she could sense the life around her, it was amazing was this how everyone felt?
"You'll get used to it, wait till you try out your beast spirit now that's a kick," Lobomon said making Shizenmon nod.
"I'll wait for a bit then," Shizenmon said before taking a deep breath.
"Ready for a crash course on digimon fighting?" Angelomon asked as he cracks his knuckles.
Shizenmon grins as she got into a stance and held her spear in front of her saying "Bring it on!"
3 HOURS LATER
After a long warm-up session, with Shizenmon discovering she could bend the nature around her, the group was now a mix of beast spirits and human spirits.
Shizenmon was hiding in the trees with Yukimon, Tenshimon was hiding in the air with Angelomon using the light around them to turn invisible for a short while, KendoGarurumon was waiting beside Okorimon out of view, Chikyumon was waiting below some tree's in some shrubs while Sandamon was waiting in some other trees with Zyphermon.
Bokomon and Neemon were hiding nearby with Merigold in some shrubs while Grademon was close to Zyphermon and Sandamon as backup, his swords drawn and ready.
BurningGreymon was currently the bait, being his annoying felt towards the enemy. The group tensed up as they heard BurningGreymon's voice.
"What's the matter buddy, can't keep up?" BurningGreymon said as he flew in the air, Duskmon running below.
"I'll be glad to silence that mouth of yours," Duskmon said with his sword drawn.
"Good luck with that, I'm very hard to shut up!" BurningGreymon said as he flew right to the planned spot.
"Now Shizenmon," Chikyumon said making his friend nod and hold up her arms as her eyes glow green.
"Argh!" Duskmon grunts as roots suddenly shot from the ground and grab his legs, he looks down about to cut them off him with his sword.
"Now Zyphermon! Chikyumon!" Tenshimon yells as she became visible with Angelomon.
"Piercing howl!" Zyphermon yells as she flew down and lets out a loud screech directed at Duskmon making him yell and cover his ears.
"My turn! Sandblast!" Chikyumon yells as he ran over and did a wide sweep kick sending sand flying at Duskmon, he yells as the eyes on his armor closed shut.
"Lastly, Smokescreen!" BurninGreymon yells as he spews out smoke from his mouth covering Duskmon.
"Now everyone!" Angelomon yells as he pulls his hand back making it glow.
"Hand of Light!" Angelomon yells punching forward sending the attack into the thick smoke hitting Duskmon making him yell and curse.
"Heaven's arrow!" Tenshimon yelled.
"Fire claws!" Okorimon yells as she dashed forward with KendoGarurumon, his shoulder blades lowered as her own front paws got encased in claws of fire.
"Howling star!" KendoGarurumon yells as they vanished in the smoke, Duskmon growls a the attacks hit both his back and front.
"Thunderbolt!" Sandamon yells as he jumps from the trees and aims his sword at the smoke sending out a huge blast of thunder.
"Ice spears!" Yukimon yells creating three spears of ice and shooting them into the smoke, she grins as Duskmon yells about nearly hitting somewhere sensitive.
BurningGreymon slide evolves into Agunimon, he was about fire off his own attack when Duskmon gave a loud yell.
"ENOUGH!" Duskmon yells as he swung his sword using the energy slash to dissipate the smoke and break the roots holding him, it hit in front of Agunimon sending him onto his back.
"You're more strategic than I thought!" Duskmon said sounding annoyed, his armor had many deep cuts and dents in it.
"Agunimon!" Grademon yells he was about to run over and help him when Duskmon charged at Agunimon.
"NO!" Everyone yells as Duskmon raised his sword above Agunimon and went to bring it down on the warrior of fire.
Only to swing down and hit KendoGarurumon instead, having leaped in the way to protect Agunimon, the wolf of life growls as he returned to koji looking beaten up. Agunimon quickly caught him.
"No Koji!" Agunimon yells worried as Koji passed out.
"Koji's hurt!" Yukimon yells as she leaps out getting ready to fight Duskmon but everyone watched as Duskmon froze, seeming shocked.
"K-Koji," Duskmon said his voice sounded a little different though, softer, strained. Okorimon gasped as she felt a human aura flare to life.
"I think someone is waking up!" Okorimon yells making Agumimon look up as Duskmon backs up holding his head before shadows danced across his armor.
"Ah!" Duskmon yells as the shadows explode out of him.
Everyone yells as the shadows hit them and consume them.
A FEW HOURS LATER
Merigold groans as she woke up, her body was a bit sore, she blinks as she slowly sat up and looked around to see herself in a forest. She couldn't see anyone, she remembered watching as Duskmon let out all those shadows but where was everyone?
Merigold got up and tried to look for anyone when she heard yelling mixed with crying, worried she followed the sounds to an old building-like castle, she gasped as she saw Zoe, JP, Teresa, Adam, and Ayame, back to being human and chained to a wall as they were tickled to the point of pain. Ranamon and Mercurymon were trying to make them talk while her Mama, Davis, and Sabrina were on a separate wall being shocked by something Mercurymon was doing.
'Where's Uncle Koji? Takuya, and where's Papa?' Merigold thought looking around, she didn't see Bokomon or Neemon either.
"These brats are so stubborn Mercurymon," Ranamon said as she stops the tickle torture before smirking.
"Oh, I know! This will get you to talk, draining rain!" Ranamon said holding up a hand and summoning a dark cloud which she threw at JP and covered him making him yell in pain.
'I have to do something!' Merigold thought as she felt something build in her chest.
She had to help! She needed to help, but what could she do!? They were bigger than her, stronger too. Merigold bit her lip, she had the basic attacks all Veemon's had but they wouldn't be much help but maybe it would be enough to stop the attack on JP if she tackled Ranamon hard enough.
A yell then made Merigold look up to see Lobomon arrive with Grademon, the warrior of light fired a shot at Mercerymon's hand making him stop his attack on the triplets while Grademon sliced at him but the warrior of steel jumps away.
Taking her chance Merigold ran out and ran directly at the distracted Ranamon, she took a deep breath and jumped ramming her head right into Ranamon's waist making her yell and go tumbling to the floor.
"Ah, little Vee!" Adam said as he saw Merigold get back up rubbing her head.
"I did it!" Merigold said with a smile.
"Look out!" Zoe yelled as Ranamon got back up looking displeased.
"How dare you, didn't your Mama teach you it's not right to hit a lady?" Ranamon said growling making Merigold frown.
"What lady?" She asked making Ranamon growl.
"You mini brat!" Ranamon said as she slide evolves into Calmaramon.
"Leave her alone Calmaramon!" Daisuke yelled looking angry as she struggled to break free to help her daughter.
"Vee!" Grademon yells about to run over only to be blocked by Mercurymon as he threw Lobomon into him.
"Say bye-bye brat!" Calmaramon yells lifting a tentacle and swinging it down at Merigold who backs up.
At that moment Merigold felt the energy building in her chest snap, her eyes went wide as her whole body glows white. It was so bright that it made Calmaramon stop and back up covering her eyes as Zoe, Teresa, JP, Adam, and Ayame all yell as well. Grademon, Lobomon, and Mercurymon look over as well to watch as data surrounded the little dragon digimon.
"Veemon digivolve to...Sachimon!" Merigold yelled as the data grew taller than Ranamon until she was the same height as Lobomon.
The Data then fades to show a very different Merigold, she had digivolved into a young female with a fit body. Her skin is light blue, her face has become more human-like with a shorter snout that had a small horn spike on the front of her nose.
Her head looked more dragon-like with two small horns growing on her head but she had shoulder-length white hair in a ponytail with a golden band with digicode on it, her body was covered by a white and golden dress that had a golden spiked collar around the back of her neck with her tail poking out the back of the dress, said tail reached her ankles in length, her head was also adorned with a golden headpiece that had a blue gem in the center of it and lastly her feet were adorned with white and golden knee-length high one-inched heel boots.
She held out her hand summoning a two-ended staff that glows with white energy as her golden eyes glared at Ranamon.
(Note: Think of an anthro Veemon, with the outfit basic Elemental Lux wears of Leauge of Legends, the white and gold outfit)
"Whoa," Davis said as he took in the sight of Merigold, she finally digivolved!
"That's my girl!" Daisuke said looking proud as Calmaramon backs up in shock.
"What! The little brat digivolved!" Calmaramon yelled as Merigold smirked.
"Yeah and ready to teach you a lesson or two!" Merigold yelled as she ran forward, twirling her staff making it generate electricity as she swung at Calmaramon giving her a shock.
"Ah! Nasty brat!" Calmaramon yells as she chased after the newly evolved digimon.
Soon Agunimon arrives with Bokomon and Neemon, that's when things took a big turn as the warrior of fire called upon the elements of nature. Something which everyone felt, with Grademon's help Agunimon freed everyone letting them spirit evolve. Merigold jumps down and ran over to her Mama and hugged her, Tenshimon smiled hugging back as Mercurymon and Ranamon land in front of them. Grademon moves to Tenshimon's side as everyone stands united in a line.
"Ah isn't this sweet together, at last, I love reunions, haha! It appears it's time for the final act of our little play," Mercurymon said as Ranamon smirks.
"I should put on something more appropriate, Ranamon! Slide evolution, Calmaramon!" The warrior of water said turning into Calmaramon.
"You don't really think you can win? Haven't you heard it isn't nice to mess with mother nature!" Agunimon said as everyone ran forward.
"Let's finish this! Thunderstrike!" Sandamon said drawing his sword and charging it with electricity before stabbing it into the ground sending out a blast of thunder at Calmaramon giving her a big shock.
"Tempest Kick!" Kazemon yells as she did a roundhouse kick charged with the wind making Calmaramon go flying right into Angelomon who hit her away with his staff.
Calmaramon crashed into the ground as Mercurymon backed up looking uneasy.
"What is going on here!" Mercurymon said as Yukimon took a deep breath.
"Ice breath!" Yukimon yells as a blast of icy wind left her mouth and his Mecurymon slowly freeing his lower half.
"Lobo Kendo!" Lobomon yelled as beside him Grademon ran with both swords drawn as they charged forward and slashed at Mercurymons shield throwing him off balance and exposing his sides.
"Foxfire!" Mikomon yells throwing her fireballs as Tenshimon summons her bow and fired an arrow yelling "Heaven's arrow!"
Mercurymon yells as he was hit sending him over to Calmaramon, Chikyumon grins as he slams his ax into the ground as Shizenmon slams her spear into the ground making the cliffside crack and rumble.
"How did ya'll get so strong?!" Calmaramon asked in shock and fear.
"We have a stronger ally than you could ever imagine!" Agunimon said as he held up his first letting fire burst to life which got blown in the wind.
"They're using the forces of nature to amplify their attacks! The master will be displeased," Mercurymon said frowning.
"Forget the master! What about us!?" Calmaramon yells as Agunimon held out his arms and used his Pyro punch making a fire start around Mecurymon and Calmaramon.
"My turn!" Merigold said throwing her staff up making it hover in front of her, it spins rapidly gathering energy.
"Final spark!" Merigold yells her right hand shot forward hitting the staff making a blast of light shoot out and hit the cliffside making it rumble.
"Retreat and regroup!" Mercurymon said as he vanished into his mirror shields and disappeared while Calmaramon jumped down the cliffside as the cliff itself fell down.
"You brats! This isn't over!" Calmaramon yells as she vanished.
"We did it!" Merigold cheers as she jumps and hugs Grademon who caught her and chuckles.
After everything calms down everyone returns to being human as Merigold crouched down to hug Daisuke, giggling since she could give the bear hugs now.
"I'm amazed by Merigold's digivolution," Takuya said as everyone took in Merigold's change.
"She's very pretty!" Zoe said with a smile as Merigold put Daisuke down.
"This is surprising considering she's an entirely new branch of evolution in the Veemon family," Bokomon said pulling out his book.
"Really?" Adam asked making Bokomon nod.
"All Veemon can eventually evolve into the royal knight known as UlforceVeedramon or they can find a special egg that allows them to become Magnamon but's that rare to see or find, then there's digi fusion between two digimon but that's a once in a lifetime event here," Grademon explains as he knelt down.
"Is it because her mom is the warrior of miracles?" Koji asked holding his hips.
"It could be, judging by her appearance Daisuke's human side might also be affecting her in small ways, for instance, Veemon's don't have hair in any of their digivolutions," Bokomon said writing something down in his book.
"So she's special," Neemon said making Merigold blush.
"My niece is awesome!" Davis said fist-pumping as Sabrina nods in agreement.
"It was cool to see," Ayame said smiling considering it was her first time awake seeing such things it felt special.
"Does this mean I can help fight?" Merigold asked tilting her head.
"After you get some more training in kiddo! Then you'll be knocking digimon out," JP said making the new champion digimon nod.
"Oh, I'm so proud of you," Daisuke said as Merigold leans down resting her forehead against her Mama's.
"I love you, Mama," Merigold said smiling as Daisuke smiled back kissing her daughter's forehead.
"I love you too, my little dragon," Daisuke said making Merigold chuckle.
"Well, shall we be on our way? We've still got a lot of walking to do," Takuya said as he looked over at the swirling rose-shaped clouds in the distance.
"Yeah, everyone ready?" Daisuke said stepping back as Merigold stood to her full height beside Grademon.
"Yeah!" Everyone yelled as they began walking once more, heading out to the next trial ready to face it head-on.
There we go!
Merigold digivolved and a new member joins the team.
In the next chapter, we have the group getting split up as Mercurymon makes his move.
