Within the Emerald Forest, the sound of metal slicing air could be heard...
One instantaneous flash, one grounded Ruby Rose. One recovery, one sweep attack, and one gasping for breath Ruby Rose. And she wasn't allowed respite. A tiger palm to the chin, followed by an elbow to the throat, followed by a high kick to her cheek all before momentum saved the red-clad girl from her opponent's merciless punishment.
A hail of bullets quickly rained over her, piercing the drifting rose petals, as wha-?!
The blowing wind and the cold steel were upon him, threatening to make off with his head, only his magenta-glowing hands standing in the way of his fate.
"Quite the aggressive move there Ruby, even knowing my aura's still here, don't you think this may be too much for a friendly spar?"
"C'mon Ren, how else are we supposed to prepare and fight the enemies threatening our extinction with any less than this. And I thought you were supposed to be the smart one of the team." With a playful sigh, she pulled the trigger. Hmm? She pulled it again. "Hee~it seems that technique of yours has been getting better, that's some grade-A gravity dust I have here you know, I might have to get a refund from that old man after this."
"Ruby, we all know with Weiss around dust is about the least of your worries, and besides, this technique is capable of far more than just this."
"Can't wait to have you show me more about it Renny~"
Before Ren was able to compute an appropriate reaction to her words, he saw Ruby step back facing in his direction, her scythe no longer clashing against his defense, and finally her index finger against the trigger, he quickly hopped and backflipped over the weapon, slipping Storm Flower on and immediately firing suppressing fire towards the retreating figure.
Moving out of his line of sight Ruby returned one shot of her own to the descending Ren, who once again had to shield himself from the attack. Moving in she brought her scythe down and up in a move that would eviscerate the magenta-eyed man in half.
Sticking to the tip of the blade he moved with it, momentarily erasing his presence, he dropped off behind the redhead, and struck the back of her throat. Her aura flashed violently at the lethal move, explosively sending her away from the threat.
Despite the devastating blow Ruby quickly got her bearings midair and with a bullet, she stopped her flying momentum and with another, she restarted it in the opposite direction. Withstanding the hail of bullets peppered in her direction, she arrived at her previous location, planted her scythe on the ground and delivered a kick to the air.
As she moved to stomp her weapon off the ground from its pole, her move was halted by another foot, looking up, silver met magenta as Ren stood impassively.
"Ren, might I ask what gave you the idea to stand on my baby?" were the words said with a strained smile, and eyes that promised violent death despite their pure color.
"Well, as my friend I thought it'd be best if you stopped straining your body swinging this death machine of yours. I don't believe the mass-to-weight ratio is very favorable for you."
" Sigh even after all I've done it still seems I'm being underestimated. I have to ask, does walking burden you? Is eating a bother? Doe-"
"Ruby! If you're gonna say something like 'Wielding Crescent Rose is as easy as breathing to me' then you can stop now, I can see it, you should know better than lie to me. You're fighting style is as maintainable as Nora's appetite, you have to cool it down lest you run out of yourself to give. If you keep this up you'll be retired at the age of 30 and that's being generous. I can't let a dear friend of mine run herself ragged just for some sparring practice!"
A moment of silence,
"Spare me the spiel for when you've won Ren."
and a cold reply.
In a flash of red rose petals she slammed herself against him.
She knew better than anyone that even if she was ten times faster than her opponent, without her weapon, there was no chance she could win against the talented martial artist Lie Ren. However...
Producing a bullet from her bandolier, she dropped it, and before it even began falling, she flicked it.
...let it never be said that Ruby Rose wasn't one tenacious menace in red.
Ren only took a second to recover from the mind-bogglingly fast assault, but by then his sight was consumed by one shining red silver bullet, next thing he knew, there was black.
A/N: It's kinda weird, an author I was checking out said they were obsessed with reviews and that's what kept them motivated. They were 25 reviews; I checked and I had 10. It's like I made someone else's motivation my own for a moment.
Anyway I stopped because I felt the only way to make proper justice to this was by learning animation but knowing my levels of procrastination, I should've seen nothing would come out of it.
Honestly there was gonna be another version initially but it was turning very ridiculous so I decided to end it there, ah well, I'll use wanting to integrate that scene as an excuse to create some plot once work is done.
