Auckland was truly mesmerizing. The sights, the water, everything was just the epitome of perfection. As they made their way from the airport to the hotel, both of them just took everything in, realizing just how lucky they were. Maya leaned her head on Carina's shoulder, happy to be in paradise with her amazing girlfriend.
"It took a while, but I'm so happy we're here," Maya said. "I've been wanting to do this with you for so long."
"Really?" Carina said. "I didn't know if you'd want to travel with me again, given what happened last time."
"Ugh," Maya said. "Don't remind me of that. But, we are literally on the other side of the world now, so, I promise I won't freak out if I get an alert about a fire."
"I may have to turn your phone off," Carina said, laughing. "But yes, I won't freak out about my patients, and you won't freak out about fires."
"Deal," Maya said as she kissed Carina.
They got to their hotel, which was a beautiful, sprawling resort, right on the beach. It was everything they could possibly ask for, and more.
The two women exited the cab, tipped the driver - Maya, in her obsessive state made sure to get plenty of travelers checks and New Zealand money, and then made their way up to their room. The room was gorgeous, a two room suite with a jacuzzi, a balcony and an amazing view. As Maya began to unpack things, Carina could tell her girlfriend was getting a little bit overstimulated and approached her.
"Relax, Bambina…." Carina said, as she soothed Maya. "We don't have to unpack everything right now. Come, how about you check out the view with me."
"I don't want to be living out of a suitcase, Carina….."
"We won't be," Carina said. "But, slow down a little, mi amor. Just relax and let's enjoy being here, in the moment."
Prior to Carina Maya didn't even comprehend the term "in the moment." She was always so fixated on her next goal, and trying to attain it, that she just couldn't ever really stop and enjoy life. Carina had changed all of that, and miraculously got Maya to slow down a little, but still, her anxiety did ratchet up at times.
Carina extended her hand, and Maya took it, and the brunette lead them out to the balcony. It really was beautiful, and the sun was starting to set, making this such an amazing and wonderfully picturesque moment. The two women looked over at the beach - which still had some swimmers, even though it was the early evening, and just were at one with the scenery.
"It really is beautiful out here," Maya said. "Thank you so much for making me come."
"Of course," Bambina. "Life isn't just full of 'eyes forward at all times' moments. It's great when we can stop and just appreciate its beauty"
"You are so brilliant," Maya said as she planted a kiss on Carina.
Before they knew it, they were passionately making out, with the sun setting behind them. It was something that was seriously out of a movie, and uncharacteristic of the two of them, Maya stopped for a second and took her phone out.
"No, bambina, no phones now," Carina said as she kissed Maya again.
"I think you're going to like this," Maya said.
Maya set her phone on the little table next to them, and put on the timer. She and Carina continued to kiss, and a photo snapped of them right as the sun was setting. It was perfect. Both the women continued to make out, deep into the night, when they found themselves famished.
"We've barely eaten today," Maya said. "Do you want to get room service and relax?"
"Look at you, figuring out how to relax," Carina joked. "But that sounds amazing."
They ordered food, and just sat and chatted with each other all night, eventually falling asleep in each other's arms. It was the perfect end to an amazing first night in New Zealand.
