Hi guys I am back for chapter 12!
I am happy you guys seem to be enjoying this!
As always let me know how I am doing and what I need to work on!
Also real quick does anyone know if there is a way I can answer your reviews?
Onto the Chapter!
Eragon's POV
It had only been a few hours since Arya had left and Eragon was on a manhunt
"Or would it be womenhunt in this case?" he wondered to Saphira as they scanned the streets for their prey
"A hunt is a hunt; it does not matter what you are hunting" Saphira said
"I suppose, although it's not really a hunt, I have no wish to kill her" he repliedstill scanning the streets for the elusive elf.
"A part of you certainly wishes too"
Eragon couldn't argue that statement. His anger for the elf Kayla was intense as it is, He had no idea what he would do once he found her.
"You will do the right thing Eragon, of that I have no doubt" Saphira responded gently
"Thank you Saphira"
"Your welcome"
It was starting to get dark as the sun set below the mountain towering above them.
Eragon was about to head inside for dinner when Saphira shouted
"I found her!"
"where?"
Saphira joined his mind with hers and Eragon could see Kayla entering her room through Saphira's eyes.
Saphira landed and Eragon dismounted
"I will wait here little one, DON'T do anything stupid"
Eragon nodded before entering the small building where several of the elves stayed.
He walked to Kayla's door and knocked
A moment later the door opened, and Kayla stood in front of him
"Good evening Shadeslayer" She stated evenly as though she expected him
"We need to talk" Eragon spoke shortly, barely controlling the rage beginning to build inside him.
She let him inside and shut the door behind them. The room was small and simple. Just a bed with a nightstand and a small table with chairs next to it.
Eragon sat down at the table as Kayla did the same on the other side
Eragon spoke first in the ancient language
"Have you told anyone?"
After a few moments of silence Eragon spoke again with more anger
"Have you told anyone!"
"Yes" She said softly
Eragon stood suddenly knocking the table over and closed the distance between them so they were eye to eye. Anger as he had not felt since discovering the Ra'zac had killed his uncle coursed through him
"Who did you tell?" His voice deadly calm
"Lord Däthedr"
Eragon's rage broke and he grabbed Kayla by the shirt and shoved her against the wall.
"You are telling me that you openly blackmailed your own queen, then decided to tell her closest advisor your filthy lie all in the hopes that she is replaced from the throne! WHY?"
"I did it for you" she stated simply
Eragon was so shocked at this he let go of her and took a step back
"What do you mean you did this for me? All you have caused me is heartbreak and pain"
"No, I have helped you" Kayla insisted
"How the hell has this helped me" Eragon asked still angry "Explain it all to me for I don't see it"
Kayla smiled slightly at him
"I will on the condition that you do not interrupt me until I am finished"
Eragon agreed with a nod
Kayla began to explain "I admit it, When I first saw you and Arya in the clearing, I was jealous and angry, and I said things I regret now. I was a fool overcome by emotion and for that I am sorry.
Eragon remained expressionless listening to her story
"I watched you both carefully over the last few days. How you acted towards each other and others. The more I watched the more I became convinced of a simple truth. You love her…. You love her more than life itself, you would do anything for her and she feels the same.
Eragon tried to speak but his oath stopped him
Kayla seemed to understand what he was about to say though
"She does shadeslayer. I don't even know if she even realizes it, but she does."
Eragon privately doubted that Kayla knew more about Arya than himself, but he didn't say anything
"Once I came to this conclusion, I had to come to the stark realization that we could never be" Kayla said her expression hard as she pointed at Eragon then herself
Eragon couldn't help, despite his anger, feel a twinge of sympathy at this. He knew all about failed romances.
"It was then that I contacted Lord Däthedr and told him everything. He is the natural successor to Arya and would be the choice to take the throne once Arya was forced to abduct."
"Isn't there a selfish part of you that wished Arya wasn't queen?"
Eragon didn't answer but there was a part of him that wished Arya would leave the throne and live with him here on Mount Arngor
"It would certainly make our lives a lot less complicated" he thought
But he would never ask her to do so. Arya's sense of duty to her people was too strong. If she was going to leave the throne Eragon wasn't going to be the one to force her. This made him remember something Arya had said
"You have forgotten something in your great plan" Eragon said sarcastically
"Arya won't be forced to leave the throne unless she breaks the council's order to remain away after the hearing"
Kayla smiled at him before shaking her head
"No, this is the most important part of the plan. …. This order allows Arya to take her time. She will only come to you when she is ready to leave the throne for good"
"And if she decides to never come back"
"Then you were never meant to be"
Eragon sat for several minutes trying to find a flaw in her plan but found none.
Sighing, he stood and walked to the door
"I don't agree with what you did but now I see I cannot banish you as I planned too in good conscience." He stated "However if you ever meddle in my personal affairs again, I will not hesitate to do so"
He spoke again "This cannot go unpunished. You will be on guard duty every other night for the rest of the year.
"Now I must go, you have given me much to think about"
Kayla nodded and bowed respectfully as he left the room
Saphira spoke in his head as he walked toward her
"That was….. Unexpected"
Eragon nodded in agreement as they took off into the night.
Wow that was shocking even too me! I started this chapter with every intent of having Kayla be a classic possessive and jealous girl and Eragon was going to force her to swear in the ancient language not to tell anyone but as I wrote it I decided that an elf would never act like that and instead decided to change it. I am very happy with the results and am frankly shocked at just how well this fit with the story. Don't worry I already have the rest of this mini storyline planned so it wont mess up my original plans for the story. Let me know if you see a major flaw in Kayla's plan because I don't see one (Although I expect Arya to not be happy about it)
This chapter is shorter but that is on purpose
Thanks for all the support guys!
Review and stay safe out there!
