Sarada heard the familiar 'skree' coming from the sky overhead. She had been on her way home from the hokage's office after finishing a mission. Sarada held her forearm out for the hawk to perch on, her heartbeat quickened knowing her father had written a letter for her.
The hawk landed and she took the note from the birds carrying case. Whether her excitement or her haste to read what her father had written her had clouded her observation of the small case she reached in and took a note, failing to notice the second letter in the case as well. Both addressed "Sa-."
She opened her letter and saw her father's familiar handwriting feeling fondness for the man she felt like she had just been getting to really know over the past year.
I'll be back within a day's time. I've been thinking about you, I miss you tsuma….
There was more to it but she decided to stop after that much. Sarada's brain shut down. She quickly flipped the letter around and saw the name written on the front, "Sakura".
Oh no. No no no no. She quickly folded it back up and best as she could she folded the note back the way she found it and tucked it into her pouch.
She hurried home and hid out in her room for a couple hours until her mother came home from working at the hospital.
"Sarada? Are you here? I'm home!" Sakura called out into the entryway.
She crept out of her room and greeted her mother awkwardly.
"Oh! Papa's hawk came and dropped off a letter. I took the wrong one by accident, it seems." Her rosy haired mother reached into her bag and pulled out the letter addressed to Sarada.
Sarada gave Sakura the letter she had taken and tried to play everything off, hoping her mother wouldn't notice her odd mood. "Oh, here's yours, I'm going to read over some scrolls in my room."
It was too late. Her mother had already unraveled the letter and her face flushed from the words inside. She waved her daughter off with an, 'ok dear, dinner will be ready shortly.'
After preparing dinner and reading her letter from her husband, Sakura watches her daughter from across the table.
She is fidgety and looks uncomfortable.
"Sarada? Is everything alright?"
Sarada shuffles food around on her plate.
"It's fine mama."
"Are you excited for Papa to come home?" Sakura asks earnestly. Her daughter fumbles her chopsticks and drops them onto her plate.
"Agh! I'm sorry Mama, I accidentally opened your letter from Papa. I took the wrong one by accident."
Her mothers face goes pink.
"Did you read it all?" Her mother asks quietly.
"No! I got through the first two lines and realized it was for you. I'm sorry Mama." Sarada exclaims, she fails to notice the relieved expression dawning on Sakura's face. Even though she knew her parents were in love it was strange to see written or visible proof, especially coming from her father.
"Oh, no worries!" And she takes a bite off her plate. Sakura is internally incredibly thankful her daughter did not see the line about Sasuke wanting to rip off the black lace lingerie set she had gotten as a gift for him last time he was in the village.
The next evening Sasuke is home and they have had a family dinner together and are tucking into bed for the night. It was late now.
"I see you got my letter." Sasuke says admiring the black lace ensemble his wife had adorned.
Sakura covers her face in embarrassment. Sasuke prods her to why she is embarrassed.
"Sarada and I mixed up our letters from you." Sasuke stiffens in his spot on the bed next to his wife.
"Oh."
"But she says she didn't read anything past the second line!"
"Hm."
The next time Sasuke sends his letters he is sure to address Sakura as Tsuma and Sarada as Sarada but Sasuke adds a familiar touch to his daughters letters, he scribbles a tiny Uchiha fan in the corner of them now. He would be sure there were no more mix ups.
