The Life of Philip & Syrena - Ch 3
Author's Note: Welcome to chapter 3 of my Philip and Syrena fanfic. I hope you like the direction in which the story goes. I also wanted to let everyone know that the first few chapters have all been pre-written.
P.S. This chapter has a lot of explaining and things happening, but bear with me, it's needed so that future chapters won't be bogged down with useless explanations or reminders. Please review & let me know if you enjoy the direction the story is currently going in and your hopes for the future of it.
The first thing Philip thought when he awoke was that he was in heaven. That is until he felt the hard rock pressing into his back that he was lying on. His hand automatically went to his stomach, but his wound was gone. Syrena must have healed him somehow. He just hoped it hadn't cost her anything.
He picked himself up gingerly so that he was no longer lying on the cold rock floor. He leaned against the wall of the cave; while also cold it was remarkably smooth. He looked around to see if he could spot Syrena, but there was no sign of her. Could she have left him? She had saved his life after all, maybe she thought they were even. But no, she had kissed him! That must have meant something to her as well.
"Stupid missionary. She had to kiss you so you wouldn't drown." He said to himself.
That's when he felt it, it was faint but it was there, growing stronger with every passing second. He knew instinctively where Syrena was, it was like he had an internal compass pointing straight to her. He also knew that she was alive and not injured. How he knew he had no idea, maybe it was God ensuring he knew where the one he loved was.
He picked himself up from the rock and stared into the pool of water in the cave, it must have been how Syrena had brought him in. He knew already that he was deeply in love with her, he had laughed when his friends back in Cornwall professed love at first sightor things like soul mates. Now though he felt as if he had found his soulmate; the fact she was a different species and probably centuries old didn't bother him in the slightest. What did bother him was the fact that he would only get to spend a few decades with her if he was lucky, before he had to leave her behind as he passed on.
He wasn't going to waste a single minute of the time he had now. With that decided he jumped into the pool of water. He didn't feel cold even though the water must have been freezing this far down. He dived down and kicked strongly, propelling himself downwards in the water filled tunnel. The beacon or feeling or whatever it was, of where Syrena was, suddenly changed and he sensed her drawing closer to him. Within a minute or two he made her out, swimming strongly, her beautiful tail propelling her forward faster than any human could ever hope to swim.
He wondered briefly how he was even able to see underwater, was it because of the kiss as well? The thought was quickly forgotten as he watched her graceful figure gliding through the water towards him. She was like an underwater angel, strong and beautiful and yet still dangerous to her enemies.
"Syrena!"
"Philip! Follow me, back to cave. We need to talk."
With that Syrena brushed past him and starts swimming back into the tunnel he'd just exited.
Shrugging heturns and follows her back the way he'd come.
Emergingback into the cave, he sees Syrena sitting on the ledge, her tail swaying gently in the water below her. He pulls himself out and takes a seat next to her.
She wasn't looking at him, in fact she seemed to be pointedly looking anywhere but at him. He didn't have a shirt on but it couldn't have been that; Syrena was completely naked in front of him, her only covering being her long dark hair, which fell over her breasts and the scales which meandered their way up her sides, adding an exotic, shimmering beauty to her until they disappear completely.
"What's wrong Syrena?" reaching over and taking her head gently in his hand and turning her face towards him.
Syrena
How does she answer him? The words he'd just uttered rang through her head. The first thing he'd done on seeing her, was to see if she was okay. Maybe he would understand, what she had done to save his life. Her nervousness grew greater with every passing second; what would she do if he left her or hated her for what she'd done?
Philip
He could sense her nervousness spike at his question. It was almost as if she was afraid. He needs to reassure her, to let her know he was there for her.
"Syrena, what is it? I can tell you're scared or nervous, but why? Won't you tell me?"
She is looking at him now at least. He waits patiently, she would tell him or not, in her own time.
Almost as if sensing his thoughts, a small, barely there smile, finds its way onto her face.
Syrena
"I need to tell you something, but I'm afraid you will hate me after you know." She says, now looking directly into his eyes.
"I could never hate you Syrena; I love you too much for that."
Nodding she takesa deep breath before speaking again.
"In order to save your life, I had to make you drink one of my tears." She pauses again before continuing.
"When a mermaid freely gives her tear to a man, it creates a powerful bond between them."
Philip
That explained the sensations he had been getting from her. How he'd known where she was.
"What does the bond do exactly?" he was curious.
"Well normally the bond is only formed between a mermaid and a man she has chosen as her mate for life. It causes the man to take on some of her characteristics and also allows them to sometimes know what the other is thinking or feeling."
"So that's how I knew you were nervous and a bit afraid just now?"
"Yes, but that's not all. The tear forms a soul deep connection between the pair. Its like they swap a piece of their soul and heart with one another. It only gets stronger over time and there is no way to break it besides death."
Death, what would happen to Syrena if he died and this bond was as deep as she claimed.
Almost as if she could read his thoughts, she answers his unspoken question.
"If you were to die, I would not long outlive you, Philip. It's a rare mermaid who can continue living, when half of her heart and soul is gone. I would not wish to live without you by my side."
Philip reeled back as if physically struck. The implications of what she'd said had just hit him. When he died in 40 or 50 years, she would end up dying soon after! He could barely breath and backed away until his back hit the cave wall.
Syrena was nearly crying as she felt his anger pour through their bond. She had prepared herself for him being angry at her, however she would do it all over again if it meant saving his life, protecting him as he'd done for her on so many occasions.
"Syrena why did you do it? You should have let me die. Now you're going to die when I grow old and pass away in a couple of decades."
His anger was gone, replaced only by utter despair and sadness. He could sense something very much like happiness radiating from her, being transmitted by the bond he now knew they shared. He was well and truly puzzled now.
Syrena
"Philip, neither of us is going to die anytime soon. You're immortal now, just like me."
It was lucky he was already leaning against the wall or he might have collapsed. As it was his jaw hit the floor.
"Immortal? What do mean? How is that possible?" the words stumble out of his mouth in a jumble.
"My tear bound you to me and me to you. Not even God could bind us any closer than we are now. My immortality is now shared with you as well as some of my other characteristics." She says the last part in barely a whisper, but I still hear her.
"What other characteristics?"
"Well… you're a merman now. The tear changes a mermaid's mate to be like her, so that they may choose to live in either of their preferred domains."
She paused obviously expecting me to be angry or confused but instead a massive smile breaks out on my face.
"Syrena, Syrena, Syrena... My darling Syrena. This is the best piece of news I could have ever heard. This means we will have eternity together; I will never have to lose you and you will never have to lose me.
I had two main worries my love; the first was what would happen to you, when I passed away due to my mortality; and the second was how much you'd hate having to live on land with me even if we had a home close to the sea."
"I would live on land for you Philip. I love you." She says looking at me once again with her innocent eyes.
"Yes, but before you would have to be the one to sacrifice for me, now I can do the same for you. We can decide together now if we would like to live on land or in the ocean."
I move forward, away from the cave wall, until I'm sitting next to her once again. Her nakedness doesn't bother me anymore. Why should it, when we are married or even better, bonded to one another for eternity. I'm sure god would understand, since mermaids were just as much his creatures as humans were, and he'd given them a way to 'marry' as well. Though I would also like to marry her again in a church, kind of like having two weddings, one for each side of the family.
I lean down and bring my face to hers. She doesn't hesitate as she places her lips over mine, kissing me.
I kiss her back, deepening the kiss and slipping my tongue into her mouth, which causes her to moan softly. I pick her up and place her on my lap as she wraps her arms around my neck. I kiss her again as she leans into me. I can feel her breasts pressing into my chest.
I need to stop myself before it is too late, there are still things I need to say to her. I pull back from the kiss reluctantly, as she leans forward again to capture my mouth once again in her own.
"Syrena wait." I say as I wrap my arms around her waist.
She pulls back slowly, though I can feel her lust for me bubbling just under the surface.
"I wanted to tell you that I'm not angry. You did what you had to do to save my life and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I love you Syrena. I am yours and you are mine."
Syrena
Her worries had all been for naught, she should have known better, then to worry about Philip abandoning her. For the first time that day she had no worries.
"I love you to Philip, I am yours forever"
I lean in and kiss him again, this time he does not pull back but kisses me back as passionately as I was kissing him.
Just then a rumbling sound originated from his belly.
I pull back and then start laughing at the now sheepish expression which crosses his face.
"I guess I'm rather hungry." He says in a way of apology.
"Here I brought you this." I hand him the small fish and seaweed that I'd brought back for him.
"I know it's not human food bu.." I'm cut off as he kisses me again, it's just a quick peck on the lips but it silences me.
Philip
"It's perfect Syrena."
With that I take a bite of the fish, it's raw but surprisingly tasty. Especially once combined with the saltiness of the seaweed. It must be because I was becoming a merman now, I would have to get used to eating like she did.
He finished his meal before lying back on the ground, their talking had lasted a lot longer than he'd thought and he was feeling exhausted.
"How long will it take until I become a merman?"
"You're becoming more a merman every minute, though you won't be able to shift forms until tomorrow at least." She says with a smile as she lays down next him.
He puts an arm around her and pulls her close to him so that she is snuggled within his embrace. Their feet entwining with one another.
"Syrena?"
"Yes Philip?"
"How old are you? I am curious."
"I turned 100 on the day I was captured by you and Blackbeard."
"So, I stabbed you on your birthday and enabled your capture by Blackbeard. A capture which led to so much torture and pain for you. I am so sorry Syrena."
"Yes, you captured my heart and my soul, it was the best birthday present ever, meeting you."
He closes his eyes and falls off to sleep, his wife and soulmate next to him.
The rock floor was suddenly, surprisingly comfortable after all.
