Chapter 6
Alexia sat on one of the chairs watching her older brother testing out the prototype of his gauntlets.
Tony clipped the wires to the chest bandolier. He brought his arm up and let off a burst of energy from his palm causing it to tip over a toolbox, scattering wrenches everywhere.
Alexia let out a breath shaking her head lightly.
Pepper came into the room slightly confused of what Tony was doing. "Thought you were done with weapons."
"It's a flight-stabilizer." Tony said as he checked it over.
"Well, watch where you're pointing your "fight-stabilizer", would you? Obadiah's upstairs - should I tell him you're in?"
"Be right up."
She left a small package on the worktable and departed the room.
Tony took off the device and turned, spotting the box. Intrigued, he tore it open to find his old chest-device, mounted in Lucite, glowing faintly. Inscribed with Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart. He smiled softly.
Alexia got up to her feet and looked at it before patting Tony on the arm. "We should go and see what Obi wants before he gets inpatient."
Tony nodded his head. He walked up the stairs with Alexia following him up the stairs.
Obadiah set the pizza down on the table as Tony came in pacing back and forth with manic energy that he still needed to very much burn off.
"This - this is the big-big idea. It can pull the company in a whole new direction." Tony explained as he looked at Obadiah.
"That's great. Get me the design as soon as you can. We've got a hungry production line that knock out a prototype in days."
Tony looked at Obadiah getting emotional. "You know, I had a moment there where I was...reluctant...but I know now I made the best decision. I feel like I'm doing something...
right, finally. Thank you for supporting me in this."
Obadiah nodded his head. "Listen, I have something to talk to you about. I really wish you'd
attended the last board meeting like I asked you to."
"I know, I'm sorry. What did I miss?"
"The board's filed an injunction against you."
Alexia gasped softly, her eyes wide.
"What?"
"They claim you're unfit to run the company and want to lock you out."
"How the hell can they do that? It's my name on the building! My ideas that drive that company."
"They're going to try. We'll fight them, of course."
"With the amount of stocks we own I thought we controlled the company."
"I don't know. Somehow they pulled enough votes together. Listen, the world doesn't share your vision, Tony. The more people have to lose, the more frightened they are of new ideas." He said as he poured three drinks. Both Tony and Alexia declined to drink them. "Now listen, I don't want you to get all in knots. You know how many times I protected your father from the wolves?"
Tony nodded his head still rather troubled with the whole thing of being locked out of the company.
"Get back to your lab and work some magic. You let me handle the board. Oh and Tony, no more press conferences."
Tony swallowed the lump in his throat nodding his head once again.
Alexia narrowed her eyes slightly at Obadiah feeling that something was very wrong with the whole story. She looked at her brother and patted his arm. "Come on, we have more work to complete."
Tony looked over his shoulder at his sister and nodded his head. He turned and began to head for the stairs.
Alexia gave Obadiah a sour look before she headed down the stairs following her brother. "Tony, they can't lock you out of the company. It's our name on the building. It is our company not theirs. We can get past this."
Tony looked at Alexia and nodded his head. "It is rather worrisome…"
"I know Tony." Alexia said softly as they got back into his work room. "I know it is worrisome, but we're Starks, we survive anything. It is what we are supposed to do. Survive, adapt and keep right on going. We don't let anyone keep us down. And you're doing a wonderful job with that."
Tony looked over at her and he smiled a small smile. He knew that Alexia was right with the whole thing. They always were put down and they ended up coming out of it in the end and it was something that they both had done in the past and it wasn't going to change now either.
"We got this Tony. I know Obi thinks that you don't have it under wraps but you do." Alexia said softly as she sat down to look at more of the design he was working on.
"Yea…"
"I know he doesn't like the idea of you doing this project without telling him what it is."
Tony swallowed the lump in his throat. "Yeah, but I don't know who I can trust from the company."
Alexia nodded her head. "And you trust me because I'm family and would never turn on you."
Tony's hand shot into her hair, messing it up.
Alexia let out a gasp and then giggled giving him a cheeky smile.
"We have work to do."
Alexia fixed her hair and nodded her head.
