Author's Notes: Kairi...well, really, it's kind of how I feel, to tell the truth.

Disclaimer: I don't own Kairi. Not that I'd want to. And I don't own Kingdom Hearts.

Summary: Kairi just wants to see smiles from the right people. One-shot. Kairi-centric.

Smile
WhiteLightning

Once there was a girl who was crying. Nobody knew why she was crying because she never told them when they asked what was wrong.

She didn't tell them because she didn't want them to know she felt she didn't belong with them, and that they hurt her because they did not include her or try to make her feel welcome as much as she wanted them to—as much as she needed them to.

"If it was anything I did or said," one spoke, "I'm sorry."

Still crying, the girl shook her head, turning away to leave. Stopping, she turned back around and looked at them through tear-filled eyes. "Smile," she said. "Smile, and I might feel better."

So they did. They smiled. The smiles were soft and unsure, but they were smiles nonetheless.

Yet when she saw their smiles, she let out a sob and fell to her knees, crying even more.

"But," one uttered, "you said you'd be better if we smiled!"

"I lied," she told them. "I did not want to see your smiles."

Kairi wanted to see her best friends' smiles.
