Short and sweet but crucial for the next chapter, which will be up shortly!
The next few weeks up until the getting of Harry from Privet Drive flew by quickly.
The weeks were filled with stolen kisses in the garden, practicing dueling, slow dances to Hermione's music box when everyone was downstairs, reviewing plans, secret glances, and a non-stop flow of visitors.
The only person who knew about Fred and Hermione was Fleur, but she had pushed them being together into motion.
Fred and Hermione decided to keep everything on the downlow, not necessarily hiding it, but not being open because inquiries into them being together was the very last thing that was needed in their lives.
They had to focus on the war and fetching Harry.
It was the night before the mission, and George conveniently found himself working late at the shop, with the intention of meeting up in the morning.
Hermione found herself sneaking into Fred's bed, where he held her all night as they laid awake, not speaking about their fears for the next few weeks, but not needing to.
Hermione kept her head on his chest, her ear above his heart. His steady heartbeat kept her calm for the night.
Eventually, around two in the morning, they drifted off to sleep. Hermione before Fred.
Fred stroked her hair for a few minutes after she had slipped into dreamland, and kissed her forehead softly.
"You're going to do great things," he whispered, "And I hope I'm there to see them all."
The words filtered into Hermione's dreams, who finally had a moment of peaceful dreaming as opposed to her usual nightmares about a variety of things.
The next morning, the Burrow was tense, nothing was spoken.
Fred and Hermione snuck off around noon to the garden to rendezvous.
"So…" Fred trailed off.
"So…" Hermione repeated.
Fred made the sudden movement of pulling her into a tight hug. Tonight's mission was dangerous, it was daring, and it might turn deadly.
They didn't know for sure what would happened, but they both would gladly give up their lives for Harry.
Hermione melted into Fred's arms, words spoken between them with just touch.
She pulled back and Fred kissed her softly.
"You be careful." He whispered.
"You too, I want that wedding dance." Hermione sniffled.
"Of course," Fred laughed, "I want every bloke to be jealous that I'm dancing with you."
They hugged again, and just held each other for a few moments before parting to make preparations for that night's mission.
