I HATH RETURNED! MUHAHAHAHA!
Fred found himself with an impossible choice, to save Percy or to save himself.
At the last minute, Percy had changed allegiances, joining the Order in the final battle.
And now, Fred had to choose between himself or his prat brother.
He chose the latter, afterall, Gryffindors were all about self-sacrifice.
Fred pushed Percy out of the way right as Rookwood's blasting spell hit the wall, collapsing it on Fred's body.
Fred's vision went black.
Hermione was fighting back to back with Ginny, who had snuck back in for the battle.
Spell after spell was being cast.
Then the armistice was called.
And the injured and dead started piling in.
Hermione wasn't looking when Fred was brought in, but she heard Molly's shriek.
She darted over to the sound and found Fred laying on a stretcher on the floor, surrounded by his family.
George was on his knees, shaking Fred.
"Please don't go," George sobbed, trying to shake him awake.
Hermione stood there silently before remembering her training.
She got on the other side of Fred's body, opposite of George, and placed her fingers on Fred's neck, trying to find a pulse.
It took a few seconds, but she found one. It was faint, it was fading, but he was alive.
There was a lot of blood coming down his face from his hairline.
"MADAM POMPFRY! HE'S ALIVE!" She shouted across the room.
Madam Pompfry had written him off at first, having other wounds to tend to, but she dashed over with her medicine bag.
"How do you know," She asked, pushing George out of the way who suddenly had hoped renewed.
"I feel his pulse, it's faint, it's fading, but it's there. Please, help him." Hermione begged, tears trickling down her throat.
Madam Pompfry scanned him with her wand.
"He's got a lot of internal injuries, but I'm going to do my damndest to save him." She said, digging through her bag.
Potion after potion was pulled out and dumped down Fred's throat, with Hermione cradling his head so hopefully it would help it go down.
Madam Pompfry stopped a few minutes later, and looked at her, "I've done all I can."
Hermione nodded and pressed her lips against Fred's forehead.
"Please," she whispered in his ear. "Please, come back to me my love."
A few seconds passed, and Madam Pompfry made to rise, when suddenly, Fred jerked into a sitting position, his eyes wide open as he gasped for air.
He immediately collapsed back, unconscious, but upon feeling his pulse, it was strong and it was back.
Fred had lived.
