Chapter: 12
A/N: I'm probably just gonna keep doing 3rd Person POV. It's much easier to write. Unless two characters are at two different settings doing different things. That's why I was switching between Shiho and Hana's POV. Also, thank you for all the reviews! Would love to hear more feedback.
Many years ago. Humanity went through an evolution. The first recorded cases of super powered individuals were reported. Then all across the world, powers became more common. We began calling these strange powers, quirks. Then, like wildfire, they spread through the entire world. Now it's believed that almost 90% of the world's population has some kind of quirk. Almost overnight, the supernatural became the totally normal. However, there remained a few who were born without a quirk, called the quirkless. I would know about them because I used to be one of them.
My name is Izuku Midoriya, and this is how I became the world's greatest hero. But you already know that story. You know about how I inherited the quirk One for All from my idol, All Might. You know how I went to UA to train to become a hero, and how I became the number one hero in the world. However, in life, you never know what your future may hold so this is not the story of how I became the world's greatest hero. Instead, this is the story of how a new generation became something greater.
My Hero Academia Next Generation: New Heroes:
3rd Person POV:
"With twenty-two points in totals. Little Miss. Kirishima here might not seem like a contender." Mandalay, former member of the Wild Wild Pusstcats, spoke to the room of UA staff as they all continued to watch the footage of the girl in question's exam performance. The staff, consisting of several pro heroes, teachers, deans, and other school personnel, all listened intently as the UA's assistant principal and head of admissions continued her explanation of the Kirishima girl.
"However, what the girl lacks in destructive points, she more than makes up for in saving points." The old heroine finished explaining as the screen behind her changed from the girl's exam footage. To a bar graph showing Katsumi Kirishima's totals points, and as a new pink bar began to grow, they had realized very quickly why this girl was indeed a contender.
When all was said and done. The young girl's previous twenty-two points now grew to be over a hundred-twenty.
"Never one to leave a man behind, Miss. Kirishama has earned more than enough points to earn a spot in our hero program." Mandalay finished her speech as she turned off her projector and all the rest of the guests in the board had a silent agreement. All quietly nodding and agreeing that Katsumi deserved a spot. All except the little girl's own father.
At the end of the long table, Eijiro Kirishima AKA- Red Riot was grinning like a damn fool, clearly very proud of his daughter. However, the others sitting next to him weren't as excited. Something that was made very clear when the hardening hero began to elbow them while very loudly whispering. "That's my daughter!"
But almost everyone just giggled at his shenanigans, not paying much mind to the happy go lucky hero.
Well, almost everyone except for a certain meatball throwing elitist hero who had somehow managed to land a teaching position at UA despite never, having gone there.
"Is that all for today's meeting?" Seiji Shishikura asked the vice principal in a passive aggressive tone while throwing an angry glance toward Mr. Kirishima. A glance that quickly ended the man's fun and the table's laughter.
"Well, yes." Mandalay awkwardly replied as she realized Katsumi Kirishima was the last student that required additional review.
"That should about do it." She continued to explain as she unplugged her projector and packed up her folder of the students' records. Some of the heroes wishing to help the old lady. However, she waved them off as she picked up the heavy folder and projector.
"Ahm!" Mandalay was shaken from her routine as she turned to her right and saw the number one hero, Deku still sitting and looking at her with a waiting expression.
"Oh, right." Mandalay said to herself as she remembered there was still one more student that deserved consideration.
"Before we all leave. There is still one more matter to address." The teachers and heroes all looked confused for a moment as they sat back down. All of them respecting Mandalay enough to give her a few more minutes of their precious time.
"As most of you have likely heard… A student destroyed the One-Million-point robot." Some of the heroes gasped, others just nodded. However, all of them thought the same question. "Who?"
Rather, than verbally answer their silent question. Mandalay simply pulled a small file from her collection and threw it on the table. That's when all the heroes could see who it was that had done the impossible.
"Shiho Midoriya." Mandalay said out loud as they all looked at her file with the girl's name written at the top. As well as a picture of her from years ago. She looked so young, her normally short green hair was tide in a ponytail, and she had a big smile showing off her bright green braces. However, it wasn't the picture or the girl's name that the group was staring at. It was single word etched under her height and weight. Quirkless.
"How?" Seiji was the first one to speak. His face bordering on anger as, much like everyone else, he had put together why Mandalay had chosen to save this student's review till the end.
"It's… Complicated." Mandalay responded, not fully understanding how to begin explaining this situation to her colleagues.
"Well, it better get uncomplicated really fast." A dean at the other end of the table that shared Seiji's anger told the older pro who attended to calm them down.
"From what I have been told, it appears as though Miss. Midoriya, used a type of highly powerful plastic explosive to… you know." Mandalay explained as she pantomimed an explosion with her hands.
"How did she get that past security? How did she even make it to the exam? I thought we didn't allow anyone without a quirk. Forget that, how did she even survive the exam?" the meatball hero pelted the former pussycat with question as she just stuck her hands up and shook her head in an attempt to calm him down.
"These are all excellent questions." Mandalay told him, which didn't work in quelling his anger.
"From what I can gather when security attempted to turn her away. She used her… Father… to threaten them." The entire table looked right at Deku as he just sunk back into his chair.
"However, we have a much more important question to answer now." Mandalay spoke with such a saddened tone that made all the heroes instantly pick up on what she was implying.
"Wait, are you actually considering this?" Seiji spoke up as he saw the heroes around him begin to ponder the unspoken question.
"There is no way we can allow this girl in." Every one of them cringed at the meatball hero's proclamation.
"What?! You are all thinking it I'm just the one saying it!" Seiji continued to raise his voice. The hero being completely blind to the emotions of the rest of the room.
Despite many being uncomfortable, non of the other heroes spoke. Most of them not having a snap decision like Seiji. All of them, but one person.
"Did she really destroy the robot?" A tall woman on the other side of the long table, opposite of Seiji, spoke up. All the rest of the heroes flinched a little when they realized who it was that had interjected.
"Well, from what I can gather." Mandalay began yet another explanation. However, she was cut off by the woman at the other end of the table.
"Mandalay, a word of advice." The strange woman told the cat themed heroine as all eyes darted back over to her.
"Never start your explanations with "From what I can gather". It makes everything you say infinitely less creditable." She finished her explanation as all the heroes lightly nodded and seemed to realize how often Mandalay had used that to try and distance herself from her explanation.
"Right, of course." Mandalay answered back her tone of voice making her sound almost scared of this woman.
"Yes. Yes, she did destroy the one-million-point robot." The older heroine firmly answered the woman as they all saw the footage on the projector. The video of Shiho Midoriya throwing her bag of explosives off the rooftop pressing the detonator and blowing up the giant robot. The evidence was so clear, even Seiji couldn't deny that the girl had indeed destroyed the machine.
"Then there is no question." The woman spoke as she rose from her seat her right hand raising to brush her raven-colored bobbed hair. Before neatly folding it behind her back and walking toward the projector to get a closer look at the footage.
"Shiho Midoriya has the most points out of any student." She continued to explain as she spun around and looked at the rest of the seated heroes.
"She has earned her spot in UA's hero course." The woman finished her explanation as the screen reflected what she was saying. The bar graph from before appeared only this time, the blue "destruction" bar never stopped rising until it was past the top of the screen. As the number one million appeared at the bottom.
It was a simple declaration from a very confident woman. So powerful that all the heroes didn't know what to say, they had no idea how to respond to that simple confidence. Well, all except one person.
"Haha." The shrill almost quiet laughter of Seiji Shishikura broke through the silence, as all the heroes turned to look at man.
"What's so funny?" The woman asked Seiji as he finally ceased his fake laughter.
"Well, I just think it's funny. Your little speech and all that." The man gestured around him as he still wore a shit eating grin.
"I would expect nothing less from one of YOU." The woman's hands began to dig into the hardwood table as she could feel Seiji had purposefully emphasized that last word
"ONE of ME?" She asked back, her teeth grinding together as she so badly wanted to smack the smirk right off his face.
"Of course, all you 1-A heroes are all the same." Seiii's words almost sound like a challenge. A challenge that the woman was more than happy to accept. However, right as she was about to attack the arrogant man. She felt a hand grab her slim arm.
Turning to her right, the woman looked down to see her friend Izuku Midoriya, glaring up at her with pleading eyes that seemed to say. "He's no worth it."
So, the woman simply composed herself and let go of the rage that had been building, and instead turned around and quietly walked back to her seat in peace. However, before she could make it back to her seat. The meatball hero had just one more thing to say.
"I would expect nothing less of any child raised by the delusions of that fool Eraserhead.".
And that was the last straw.
SWOOSH!
In an instant the raven-haired woman, had spun around and pulled a small knife out of seemingly nowhere. Then she threw the silver dagger right at the arrogant hero's head. Only for the knife to nearly miss his forehead and instead imbed itself in the man's Shiketsu High hat.
"AHH!" The man screamed out as he shrunk lower into his seat as his hat was stuck to the back of the tall chair.
"MOMO!" Deku immediately shot up out of his seat as he called the woman's name as she looked over to her friend and saw that the rest of the heroes were now wide eyed, and clearly startled.
Momo Yaoyorozu began to compose herself again as she dropped her dynamic posture she had adopted when throwing her knife, and instead relaxed into her usual refined and proper posture. Hands clasped behind her back, standing up straight, and she even brush a stand of hair behind her ear. It had seemingly fallen out of place when she had suddenly spun on her heels.
"I apologize." After calming down, the creation hero bowed to everyone at the table. Though they could feel her apology wasn't directed at one person in particular.
After bowing, Momo silently made her way over to the man she had attacked earlier and pulled her knife out of his hat. Allowing the cap to fall on his purple-haired head.
Rather than say anything, Seiji simply glared up at Ms. Yaoyorozu with a look of anger. A look he soon found was reciprocated, and as much as Momo just wanted to walk away. She knew she couldn't.
So, right before turning around. Momo Yaoyorozu quickly reached down and grabbed the collar of the man's long black trench coat.
Then, bringing her face right next to his ear. She whispered one single sentence to him.
"Never. Insult. Shota Aizawa. In front of me!" Momo declared as she locked eyes with Seiji both sharing a look of hatred. However, it was the meatball hero's eyes that showed more fear as she felt the girl's dagger slightly poking his gut.
Suffice it to say, he got the message.
Then, there was silence for a moment as Momo sat back down and all the heroes calmed back down.
"I suppose, the best way to decide, is to put it up to vote." Mandalay broke the silence as they all looked back to the old heroine at the head of the table. Most everyone nodded and seemed to agree. All except one person who felt the need to point out the obvious.
"Excuse me, but wouldn't this be a conflict of interests?" Melissa Shield, the head of the support department, commented as her and many others all looked right at the number one hero. He of course understood the gesture and before Mandalay could respond, he held up his hand and stood.
"I understand." He told everyone as Mandalay slowly backed away and sat down, feeling the hero had something to say.
"I will abstain from this voting. It would be unfair for me to rule in this matter." Deku continued to explain as they all nodded. Midoriya and Melissa both sharing a glance that seemed to say.
"Sorry" and "It's okay. I get it"
Melissa being the rule follower she was meant she couldn't have allowed something that was clearly a conflict of interests.
However, as the hero began to sit down, many of the heroes were surprised. The symbol of peace had always been one for long winded speeches. So, they had just expected him to say something, but it appeared he didn't have any words.
"If I may say one thing though?" Some of the heroes giggled a little under their breath as Deku stood back up. No doubt ready to say some kind of speech, but they still allowed him to speak. He had at least earned that.
"I have had the pleasure of raising this young girl." Izuku began while gesturing toward the projector that still had his daughters face on it.
"Being a hero, has been her dream for the longest time, and she never took no for an answer. Not from her teachers, from her classmates, from the doctors, and even from her parents." Midoriya looked down for a moment. The other heroes feeling the palpable shame coming off his body.
"Stubbornness is, unfortunately a trait I seemed to have passed down to her." Deku allowed a small chuckle to escape his lips as he said this. Some of the other members of the meeting joining in and briefly smiling.
"And believe me when I say that no one, and I mean no one can stand between a Midoriya and what they want." His tone began almost threating as the heroes seemed to understand what he was saying.
"Being a hero was something I never wanted for my daughter. However, I can see now that I can't even stop her. So, don't make the mistake of thinking you can." Deku finished his little speech as he bowed to the many heroes at the table and sat down. An awkward silence once more washing over everyone there.
"Well then, shall we put it to a vote?" Mandalay asked as she broke the silence. Almost everyone nodding in agreement or remaining silent. Which Mandalay interpreted as a yes.
"So, all those in favor of, rejecting Miss. Midoriya's application?" She asked yet again as a couple hands were raised. A few deans and the hero Seiji Shishikura seemed to be the only ones, and already Mandaly could tell where the I's were located.
"And all those opposed?" The cat-themed hero asked as a great majority of hands shot up into the air. Every pro hero, with the exception of Mr. Shishikura, had their hands raised. Along with a couple of the teachers meant that the motion went through.
"It would appear we have come to a decision." Mandalay announced as she reached down and grabbed her gold UA stamp.
"We will have to make a new acceptance letter, but since nothing shall be changed. Shiho Midoriya has the most points earned at one-million and had earned her place in UA's hero course." She finished her speech as she stamped the gold ink onto the young girl's transcripts.
"And that should conclude our meeting." She told them as she got her files back in order and packed up the projector as she had before. Only this time she spoke with one of the teachers about making another acceptance letter before walking out the door.
However, no one could beat Seiji Shishikura as he was the first one out with a scowl on his face. After he left, the rest of the heroes began to briefly converse among themselves, some even discussing which students would belong in each of their classes.
Many expected to see Deku with his signature beaming smile on his face, but rather than wearing his signature ear to ear smile. The symbol's face was oddly mournful, as if someone had just told him bad news. So, rather than speak with him, his many friends decided to leave him be.
Even Mandalay who had briefly considered him a surrogate son, could tell he needed to be alone. So, she just followed the rest of them, as they all left. All except for Momo Yaoyorozu, who walked up to the seated hero and tilted his eyes up to meet her glare. All while sitting back against the desk he was sitting at.
Both of them stared at each other for a moment, neither of their faces showing any emotion as they simply glared at each other and waited for the room to be clear. Then, when the room was completely empty, it was the symbol of peace who spoke first.
"You have to protect her Momo." Midoriya told her. He begged her as the woman saw the fear in the man's eyes.
"You have to promise me, you'll protect her." He once more pleaded with the creation heroine as she simply nodded at his request.
"I will. I promise." Momo Yaoyorozu's simple respondence briefly filled the number one hero with an awful yet vital emotion. Hope.
"Swear to me. Swear to me on your mother's soul." Izuku couldn't leave this to chance as he continued to stare into the heroine's black eyes.
Ms. Yaoyorozu took a moment to continue as she looked towards the ground. Her face turning green as she felt like she might throw up. Both friends understanding how powerful a declaration this was. What with Momo's mother having passed away only a few years ago. The poor woman had been collateral damage in a villain attack, and despite Momo not being anywhere near the attack. She still blamed herself for it.
While the thought of her mother was usually enough to set her off. Momo understood that this girl meant as much to Izuku as her mother did to Momo.
"I swear to you. On Chiharu's soul. That I will keep your daughter safe." Momo met Deku's eyes once more as she made her proclamation, both heroes nodding in agreement as a single tear slid down the hero's cheek.
They could have said so much more, but both had said all that they needed to. So, they simply nodded to each other, and got up to leave. Momo being the first one out as she understood Midoriya wished to be left alone for a bit.
Momo just left as she walked out of the meeting room, leaving her friend behind to think. She could understand why he felt so distressed, so she just let him go.
Wishing to distract herself, the creation heroine pulled out her phone and began checking many of her messages hoping to find something to distract her from Seiji, her mother, Midoriya, and everything else. However, in her rush to distract herself. She unwittingly walked right into the last person she wanted to meet.
CRASH
"Oh, I'm so sorry Miss." Momo looked up from the ground to see the man she had run into who was speaking to her.
"It's fine, Mr." She was about to continue as she took the man's hand. Only for both of their eyes to meet, and promptly widen in surprise.
"Shouto." Momo said the man's name as the fire and ice hero stood in shock.
"Momo." Shouto said the woman's name as they both were at a loss for words.
Neither had spoken since their breakup a few years ago. Even in group meetings such as this. They always kept their distance and never conversed.
"It-it's so good to see you!" The Todoroki man let out an uncharacteristically big smile as he reached into hug the woman. Happy to finally have an excuse to talk with the girl he always had a crush on.
However, Momo, ever the professional one. Stopped the man's hug by reaching her hand forward as she almost punched him in the gut. Luckily, Shouto was able to pick up on what she was doing and dropped his arms awkwardly and took her hand. Both awkwardly shaking hands for a moment. Neither knowing what to say.
"Um, that was quite the meeting, huh?" The fire and ice hero tried to keep the conversation going to the best of his ability, but neither of them were very gifted in social skills.
"Uhh, yeah, yeah it was." Momo offered back as she tried to come up with some way to escape this awkward conversation.
Fortunately, they seemed to have run out of conversation topic and Momo saw this as an opportunity to escape.
"Nice talking, but I need to go, okay?" Momo awkwardly told her old friend as he just nodded in humiliation as she walked past him while keeping her head low.
"Yeah, well maybe we could get together some time." Todoroki offered to his old flame as she stopped and thought about it for a moment.
"Yeah. Maybe. I'm gonna be busy with classes starting soon, but maybe." She told him back as he once more awkwardly nodded, and Momo fast walked away.
Never turning back around to face the man as she couldn't hide the red blush that overtook her face.
"Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!" Shouto yelled to himself while smacking his forehead against the tiled walls of the hall they had been walking through.
"Idiot!" he insulted himself once more as he felt completely embarrassed with his halfhearted offering to the girl he still loved. Even if he would never admit it. Sitting down against the wall and running his hand through his long red and white colored locks. Shouto Todoroki just shook his head in defeat.
"Stop dating the floozies and call Momo." The hero thought back to what Bakugou had told him and just shook his head once more.
"I tried." He told no one in particular as he put his head in his hands. Feeling completely and utterly defeated.
Meanwhile, while the two lovebirds were having their awkward reunion. The number one hero, Izuku Midoriya sat alone at the meeting table.
So many thoughts went through his head, not just about his daughter, but also about his young successor Hana Izumi.
"Please let this work." He once more told himself as he leaned forward against the table. Clasping his hands together and leaning his forehead against his hands.
Right now, he really needed something good. So, in order to find some good news, he opened up the many students' files that still rested on the table. Flipping through them he was able to go past the G's, then the H's, until he finally found the I's.
Then, after flipping a few more pages, he found the page of his successor, Hana Izumi. There was no picture to accompany her transcripts, and the information he could find was very general and nothing new for him. After all, he was the one who had written most of this up.
"Haha." Deku chuckled a little when he remembered back to the conversation he had, had with his successor about her transcripts, and when she had revealed that she didn't "Fully" know how to read or write. So, of course he had helped her with completing her application, and promised to find some way to tutor her.
Nevertheless, the hero skipped past all the basic information and made it to the bottom of the sheet of paper where he saw her test results.
0. Izuku read the number right under the destruction point total. A number that should make the hero feel sad. However, as his eyes moved to the other side of the paper. He saw a number that made him much happier.
150. Sat right under the part denoting rescue points, and the hero couldn't help but smile even brighter.
Izuku had meant it when he said he couldn't be prouder of his young apprentice, and he was just as happy to learn that the rest of the committee shared his thought process.
However, while that did bring a smile to his face, he did have one horrible realization.
"Both of them are in." Deku whispered to himself as he fully realized that two people he loved. Were about to be plunged into the hardest, toughest, and most painful job that has ever existed.
"Please, let this work." He told himself one final time. Hoping that if he could put it out into the universe. That somehow the universe would know what to do with it. Before, closing the files and walking out to get ready to send out the new students acceptance letters.
