Midnight Magic
It was nearing midnight and the Gryffindor common room was quite. Everyone had gone to bed except two people. A lone sixth year boy stood by the fireplace, looking into it but not really seeing anything. This boy had unruly, black hair that fell across his face and jade green eyes. But the most interesting thing about his appearance was a thin lightening bolt-shaped scar on his forehead. The other person was a girl who stood hidden in the shadows. Her red hair, which reached down to her shoulders, just brushed the top of her dressing gown and partly hid her face.
Ginny Weasly stood there watching Harry Potter. Even though he said nothing, Ginny knew what he was thinking about. He was thinking about his godfather, whom had died at the end of the previous school year. When he had been over spending the summer with Ron, she had heard him moving around at night, thinking about like Sirius. Harry never spoke of the pain he felt, but she knew it was there, cutting into him like a knife. Haunting his dreams just like the corridor to the Department of Mysteries had the previous year.
A lone tear streaked down Harry's cheek, yet he made no move to wipe it away. After what seemed like hours, Ginny moved. Harry turned at the sound. Their eyes locked, emerald green with hazel brown. They stood for what seemed like and eternity, staring at each other. Harry was the first to speak, "How long have you been standing there?"
"I don't know. You're not angry are you?"
"No."
Ginny then walked over to where Harry stood, looking up into his eyes, those beautiful eyes that she had always loved. Tentatively, she reached a hand up and pushed his hair away from his face. When she began to lower her hand, Harry reached up and took hold of it in his. He put his other hand up to her face, tracing it with his fingers. His gentle hands ran down the lines of her check-bone and down her chin. All the while, he never took his eyes away from hers.
Then slowly, Harry bent his head down towards hers. He was so close that Ginny could see the tears hanging on his eyelashes, the very faint freckles that crossed the bridge of his nose, then, his lips met her. He dropped his hand, putting both arms around her waist. Ginny was swept away in the kiss. She put her arms around his neck to pull him closer. Both lost track of time and only were brought back to their senses by the clock striking midnight.
The two broke apart, gasping for air. "I've wanted to do that for so long."
Ginny looked up at him in surprise, "Then why didn't you?"
Harry sank into an armchair by the fireplace. "Scared. That if I admitted my love for you, I'd loose you too."
"You won't loose me. I'll always be here for you."
Harry pulled Ginny down onto his lap, "I know that now" he whispered into her ear. "And I'm not going to forget it."
"Good, because even if you did, I would remind you."
Harry smiled his first genuine smile in a long time. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
The two of them sat there for a while, holding each other in their arms for a while. When the clock struck one, Ginny began to get up. "We had better get to bed. We have class in the morning."
Pulling her back down, Harry said, "No, just a little while longer." He kissed her, and again she was caught up in the feeling. It felt so right being here, with Harry, in his arms. The two again sat there, in comfortable silence. Just savoring the time they had together.
Harry looked down to see Ginny sound asleep. For a while, he just sat there watching her sleep. Her face looked so peaceful. He watched the gentle rising and falling of her chest as she breathed. She looked so beautiful, with the moonlight shining on her and her hair falling across her face. Harry didn't know how long he sat there looking at her, but eventually he too fell asleep, holding his love in his arms.
