Chapter 4: Siblings and Owner
After getting the pup back with it's family, Snowflake turnd back towards the house. The fire was still bad, and it was taking a while to put out. Luckily, the roof didn't cave in, and within a few hours, the fire was put out. The damage was bad, but the house was still standing.
"Great job everyone. The fire is out, and everyone is safe. But this house is still not safe. Rubble, clean up any burnt parts so the house doesn't collapse on anyone. Chase, secure the area so nobody gets hurt. Once we're done, we can leave. There isn't much else we can do," Ryder instructed.
"You got it, Ryder!" the two pups said before getting to work. Rubble used his bulldozer to clean up any fallen wood, while Chase made sure nobody went towards the house. Within another hour, they were done.
"Good job. Now we can head home," Ryder told the pups. The pups howled happily.
"Snowflake!" came some voices nearby. The husky pup turned to see three other familiar huskies walking over.
"Ned? Brian? Melody? What are you doing here?" Snowflake asked, surprised.
"We saw you drive by, and wanted to see if it was really you!" Ned answered.
"Yeah, it's been so long since we've seen you!" Melody added.
"Well I've been busy working with the PAW Patrol. You guys know that," Snowflake retorted. This was true since she had told her siblings about being the tracking pup of the PAW Patrol when she had come back to visit during the holidays.
"Yes, but it just isn't the same without you!" Brian commented.
"Hi. Nice to see you again," Ryder said as he and the pups turned towards the three huskies.
"Hi Ryder!" the three pups said at the same time.
"Ryder, pups, you remember my siblings, right? Ned, Brian and Melody?" Snowflake reminded them.
"Yes, we met them the during the summer when you joined the PAW Patrol," Ryder said, remembering the event from years ago. Snowflake nodded.
"I'm surprised you guys didn't know it was me driving by. We've known each other our whole lives," Snowflake retorted as she turned back to her siblings.
"Well we've never seen you doing a rescue. Let alone in your rescue gear. We've only seen you in your vehicle and without your gear on," Brian corrected her. Snowflake nodded, blushing.
"Ryder? Can we stay and hang out with my siblings?" Snowflake asked curiously.
"Yes. We can stay. But we'll have to return when it starts getting late," Ryder replied.
"Yay!" the pups all cheered. The husky pup then turned back to the other three huskies.
"So now that I'm back, what's new?" Snowflake asked curiously. All three of the huskies ears folded back when she asked the question.
"A lot, actually. Ryder? Can we get some alone time with Snowflake?" Melody asked. Ryder nodded.
The siblings lead Snowflake to a house just down the road. It was a medium sized, brick house that was white with a front porch and navy blue roof. A brick chimney was also on the side of the house. Windows were on the front and sides wherever there were rooms.
The four huskies walked through a dog door flap that was on the lower middle part of the front door. Once inside, the huskies saw a staircase that went straight up, a living room to the left and a kitchen to the right. The rooms also had white walls, with greens and blues to match the white in contrast to the overall look off the house. Green and blue furniture along with white carpet also complimented the house's inside look. Different family items were organized everywhere and a TV was in front of the couch. A fireplace was also next to the TV.
The huskies then walked to the living room and sat down on the white carpet in the living room before talking.
"What's going on? Whatever it is, I know it's bad. Please tell me," Snowflake insisted, wanting to know what her siblings were thinking. The three siblings looked at each other with sad looks before turning to the husky in question. They had no idea where to start.
"Snowflake, remember before you joined the PAW Patrol how Benjamin Williams, your owner, how he wasn't feeling well. That he was taken to the hospital?" Melody reminded her.
"Yes," Snowflake replied, her ears folding back. She remembered that day. Her owner falling over, being in pain, not able to stand much, everyone trying to help. It was so sudden! Her ears went back up though as she kept listening though. Melody sighed.
"Well, it turns out, he was more sick than the family thought. Snowflake, your owner Benjamin Williams ... He died. He's not coming back. The family just had his memorial two weeks ago," Melody said softlly.
Snowflake's ears dropped back and she had a look of fear, dread, confusion, and sadness on her face. The siblingscould see it in her eyes.
"What? No! You gugs would have ... I would have been told ... That can't be, he was ... WHAT?! NO! PLEASE tell me you're lying!" Snowflake said as she whined, trying to process the information she was told.
"I'm sorry Snowflake, but what Melody said is true," Ned said honestly. The look Snowflakehad was still there, but she now looked more sad and confused.
"NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOO! BENJAMIN! NOOOOOOOO! I WANT HIM! I WANT BENJAMIN BACK! AHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHH! BENJAMIN!" Snowflake screamed as she sobbed. Tears comjng down as her heart broken. Ned, Melody and Brian held her as the nuzzled and hugged their heartbroken husky sister.
Snowflake sobbed hard, heartbroken that Benjamin Williams, the man who took her in as a pup, the man who cared for her before she joined the PAW Patrol, the person who introduced her to his family and gave her so many years of joy, the one who made her the blue scarf that she wore under her collar EVERY DAY, the very scarf he made which inspired her name, the scarf she received as one of her first gifts on her first Christmas with the family, the man, the owner that had changed her life for the better, was gone.
As Snowflake sobbed, her siblings tried their best to comfort her. Mostly though, they just left the husky grieve over her owner that had long since passed away.
"We would have called and told you, but we had a bad storm come through the next day, and the phones didn't work at times. Plus the roads weren't safe to come into town. Lots of fallen tries and other damage. They just finished the clean up five days ago. We're so sorry Snowflake," Brian told his sister sincerely.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA! BENJAMIN! I'M SORRY! I'M SO SORRY! I DIDN'T GET TO SAY GOODBYE! BENJAMIN!" Snowflake sobbed, realizing that not only was her owner no longer around, but that the last time she saw him was when he was being taken to the hospital. She never got to say goodbye or tell him how much she loved him. Now, she was even more heartbroken.
After letting Snowflake grieve, the huskies separated from the hug.
"There IS some good news though. Remember Benjamin's grandson George? Well it turns out their house is getting pretty old. So instead of spending lots of money to fix the place, they're selling it and moving to Benjamin's home," Ned explained.
"That's good," Snowflake said through tears. Her tail wagging a bit. At least the house was going to stay, and with good owners.
"We know you're sad, but there's more to tell you. Will you let us finish?" Melody reminded her.
"Yes" Snowflake answered.
