Here Comes The Sun
Chapter 30
By: The Duchess of Arendelle
AN: Sorry for the super long wait guys! I know this chapter isn't that long, but that's because I cut it in two, because it was running a bit too long. I'll post the second half next Saturday! I hope you guys enjoy! Sorry for any and all mistakes!
'Who is this Prince Andre?' Elsa thought to herself as she watched the crowd part for the newcomer.
Prince Andre slowly made his way to the queen. Something seemed terribly familiar with the way he walked. Elsa couldn't really make out his features as his masked obscured most of his face. She could however, tell that his features were very delicate. His nose was thin and turned up slightly. 'Like Anna's.' she thought. The prince also had a thin pout to his lips. '…Like Anna's…' He also had a light dusting of freckles across his cheeks which were painted with a light flush. 'Is it me, or could this guy be Anna's twin?' she continued to think to herself as the young prince finally stopped in front of her and bowed regally. Grabbing her hand, he kissed it lightly and looked up at her with a small smirk.
"Queen Elsa, it is an honor, a privilege, and a delight, to meet you. I am Prince Andre of the Midlands, but I guess you already knew that…" he trailed off, straitening up from his bowed position. Elsa stared at him closely in shock. Wait a minute. Those lips up close. That smirk. Only one person could give her a smirk that makes her heart flutter like that… A beat of silence passed and the "Prince" looked at her expectedly. Elsa quickly cleared her throat and fumbled through her response.
"Ah, yes, P-Prince Andre? Nice to finally meet you." She responded, bowing her head and giving a light smile. Andre smiled back at her and Elsa was 100% certain who this really was. She looked around the room nervously to see if anyone else had made the same discovery as she. As she glanced around the room, it looked as if no one else noticed. They all seemed enamored with the new guest and she could hear whispers of awe and jealously.
"Wow look at him…"
"We might as well pack up and go home now."
"Prince Andre looks quite fetching in his costume."
"Do you see how the queen is looking at him?"
"Prince Andre, yes I know him. I vacationed in the Midlands last year. He was very accommodating."
"If only we could see his face…"
Elsa's attention was snapped back to 'Prince Andre', when she felt a gloved hand gently grab hers. She looked into the sparkling blue eyes of her suitor as 'he' smiled a secretive smile. "Shall we?" he asked, gesturing towards the dance floor. Elsa, still in shock, just nodded. Making their way to the center of the ball room, Andre gestured for the band to play. Placing delicate hands around a delicate waist, Andre brought the queen flushed against himself as the band started a waltz.
Leaning up to whisper, Elsa spoke breathlessly into her partner's ear.
"Anna? Is that you?" she asked as quietly as possible.
"The one and only. How'd you know? My costume is perfect! I look just like a real prince right?" Anna asked excitedly as she continued to dance across the ballroom. Elsa laughed slightly. "You do look quite… handsome. But I could pick those lips and that smile out anywhere." Elsa told the redhead with a slight blush. Anna smiled brightly at the blonde in her arms and pulled her even closer.
"I should have known there was no fooling you." She whispered. Elsa smiled up at the redhead then made a face. "This is strange…" she said as Anna twirled her then brought her back. "What is?" the redhead asked. "You being taller than me. Gosh, did you borrow those boots from the Duke of Weasleton?" Elsa joked lightly. Anna laughed. "Hey, I'm a prince! I have to be taller than you. It wouldn't be believable otherwise." Anna responded. Elsa's smile dropped slightly.
"And how believable is this entire act? The Midlands? There's no such country. And how long before people see through this costume? How long before people start questioning who Prince Andre really is? His linage? His family, his history, his country. I knew it was you almost instantly. How many other people do you think have noticed as well?" Elsa asked, worrying her bottom lip between her teeth.
Anna brought a hand up and lightly touched it to Elsa's lips, gently freeing it from the light hold of her teeth. She then brought the hand to Elsa cheek. "Don't worry Elsa, I've got everything covered tonight." Anna assured. Elsa's brow furrowed as realization hit her. "…The champaign. That's why Adam didn't allow me to drink it…" Elsa realized. Anna nodded. "That's right. We got a potion from Pabi… the Troll King. He also conjured us a bunch of very legit looking documents. So like I said, don't worry, I have everything covered for tonight." Anna smiled as she dipped Elsa. Elsa stared the redhead in the eye. "And what about past tonight?" she asked, still worried. Anna ran her thumb across her cheek. "We'll think of something."
The rest of their dance consisted of Anna explaining to Elsa all they had been up to. The planning, the executing, everything. "You had me so worried." Elsa said, lightly tapping her on the shoulder. "I thought you had really hurt yourself." She pouted slightly. Anna laughed. "I'm sorry. I couldn't tell you what I was planning before. I didn't want to run the risk of you trying to stop me, or somebody finding out before hand and you being brought down with us." Anna explained. Elsa smiled at her sister.
Laying her head on Anna's shoulder, she whispered. "You went through a lot of trouble for us." Elsa smiled softly. She could care less about all the eyes on them right now. All the whispers. All the rumors. All the heated stares.
"Yeah, well, that's what you do for the person you love." Anna whispered back.
Just as the blonde queen of ice was about to respond, she felt a cold hand grab her shoulder. A shiver went down her spine as a cold even she had never felt made its way into her bones. She turned around and noticed the dark figure of Sir Edmond looming over her. His emerald eyes seemed to glow as he stretched his mouth into a toothy grin.
"Excuse me, your majesty, but would you please oblige your most loyal of followers a dance." He asked loud enough for the crowd to hear. Demanding more than asking. Elsa frowned and was about to decline when she felt that same cold hand grip her own. He leaned down and discreetly whispered in her ear.
"I would say yes if I were you your majesty. You're going to want to hear what I have to say." He told the young queen, casting a quick look to Anna, who still had an arm wrapped around the blonde's waist and was glowering at Edmond. Elsa got the unspoken message and turned her head away from Edmond to look at Anna. Her face softened as she leaned up to whisper in the redhead's ear.
"Meet me in my chambers tonight. I have to go now. I love you." Elsa quickly whispered to Anna as she was swiftly torn away from the redhead before the girl could even respond. Edmond pulled the blonde into his arms and began to slowly waltz with her across the dance floor. Anna stared after them for a long moment, a look of displeasure written across her face. Edmond looked up and stared her straight in the eyes before smirking and leaning down to whisper in her Elsa's ear.
Across the ballroom, Elsa reluctantly danced with the slimy snake of a man. She shivered again, this time in disgust, when he leaned down to whisper in her ear.
"Looks like a certain prince is smitten with you. And you with him. But he does look terribly familiar…" He observed. Elsa rolled her eyes.
"What is this about Edmond?" the queen asked in impatience.
"Well, I'll just come out with it. There is no use in continuing to pretend that we don't despise each other, now is there Elsa?" he began boldly.
"I would watch my tongue if I were you. You are talking to the Queen of Arendelle, and you will address me as such... But I suppose you're right Edmond. I loathe you and I sense you're not very fond of me." Elsa told the raven haired noble with an expressionless face. The man smirked.
"Like I said, your majesty, the time for pretenses are over so I'll just come out with it." Twirling the queen, he brought the blonde back to him in a hard grip.
"Marry me your majesty. Make me your king." He told the ice queen, looking her straight in the eye. Elsa was aghast. Of all the things… The nerve of this man! The pompousness of this… this… ass! Elsa tried to break away from the man, but he pulled her back and held her in a tight hold.
"How dare you? Have you gone completely mad? Do you know all the ways I could try you with treason? Do you know I could call my guards and have you killed right now? I am the queen. I have the power to freeze an entire country, what do you think I could do to one insignificant man? You may think you have power Sir Edmond, but let me tell you, you are not as untouchable as you think." Elsa snipped angrily.
"And neither are you, my queen." Edmond spat back in a low growl. "And let me tell you, majesty, you have no idea how much power I hold. You have no idea the forces I control. The allies I have. I work with people in very high places. Places higher than you could ever imagine. You think your little snow powers frighten me? I suggest you think again." He continued as the ball swirled around them. Elsa began to feel light headed.
"Let go of me this instance. You are through Edmond. I will personally make sure you are arrested and beheaded for your actions here tonight." Elsa threated the nobleman. Edmond laughed, hard and cold as he leaned down and whispered in the queen's ear.
"You won't get the chance." He whispered harshly.
Elsa looked at him, confused. He grinned.
"I know something about you my little Sapphic queen." He continues to whisper. "You see, I never drink at these affairs, I prefer to keep my wits about me. And like I said, Prince Andre looks awfully familiar. Like someone we both know. A certain useless princess." Elsa was getting more and more light headed as the man spoke. She felt like she was going to pass out at any moment.
"I- I- I can't – I…." Elsa's thoughts and words began to become hazy and jumbled. A fog had settled over her mind. The room spinned around her as she looked at the distorted masked faces of her guest. They all seemed to be staring directly at her. All those faces looking at her, laughing at her. The noise became louder and louder. She felt sick. All of a sudden, everything came into focus and she was staring directly into the soulless eyes of Edmond. He smiled a toothy grin as the last notes of the song rang out.
Edmond bowed and took Elsa's hand, placing a sycophantic kiss on the back. Before pulling away completely, he leaned down to whisper in the queen's ear one last time.
"Think very carefully Elsa. You have so much to lose." He told the ice queen, casting a glance towards Anna who was standing in a corner with her friends, laughing.
As he walked away, Elsa looked down, feeling the tightly folded thick paper Edmond had left in her hand. Looking back up, she saw Edmond was nowhere to be seen. She hurried back to her throne, barely remembering to politely nod at the guest who acknowledged her, and seated herself with a heavy sigh. Discreetly opening the paper, she slowly brought a hand to her mouth and gasped in horror as she saw what was on it.
An instant painting. A photo. Of her and Anna in the garden. Kissing for the first time that now felt like two lifetimes ago. She flipped the photo over and read the words scrawled on the back.
'This is but the tip of the ice burg my queen.'
