Here Comes The Sun

Chapter 33

By: The Duchess of Arendelle

AN: Sorry for any and all mistakes! And to the guest reviewer: I'm sorry you feel my ANs are too long and my chapters too short. The last chapter was the first short-ish chapter (it was still over a thousand words) that I've ever written for this story. And I said my chapters were going to be shorter since I'm updating the story twice a week now. Plus, my ANs are here to connect with the reader to keep you guys updated, and to see if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Sorry if you think they're too long, but that's one thing I'm not going to change! :) Anyway, I still hope you and everyone else enjoy the story! Proceed!

"Anna please slow down, you're hysterical!" Kristoff pleaded with the sobbing redhead.

Anna continued to cry, breathing erratically. Her heart felt like it was breaking in half and her chest ached painfully.

"Yes Anna, you have to calm down and breathe steadily, or you may work yourself into a faint." Adam tried to sooth into the redhead's ear calmly. Anna just shook her head as she sputtered out something neither of the men could understand.

They were all sitting on the redhead's bed. Kristoff and Adam had been called by the staff after the ladies in waiting had tried to get Anna to open the door to prepare her for the day's proceedings. When they heard loud crying and shouting and crashes, they didn't know what else to do. Kristoff and Adam quickly followed one of the maids, Sara, to the princess's room where Kristoff threatened to break Anna's door down if she didn't open up. The maids looked on in shock. They knew Kristoff and Anna were very close, but it was unheard of for a commoner such as Kristoff to speak to a royal in such a way.

After a few seconds, the door slightly cracked open and Kristoff rushed inside. Adam told the women to come back in about an hour, to give them time to see what was going on with the princess. They nodded and bowed, going down the hallway with gossip on their lips.

"Please Anna, calm down a bit. Tell me what's going on! I can't help you if you don't tell me!" Kristoff begged. He looked over at Adam who was sitting on the other side of Anna. The redhead had been trying to tell them what was upsetting her, but she couldn't even form the words. Adam looked back at Kristoff and shook his head. His eyes said patience, we can wait. So the two men sat in silence, rubbing the redhead's back and letting her cry.

After twenty more minutes, the redhead's sobs died down enough for them to try again.

"Anna, sweetie, what's wrong? What has happened to you?" Adam asked gently as he rubbed comforting circles on her back. Anna sniffed and tears continued to fall from her eyes.

"It's over." Anna croaked out. Adam looked extremely confused. "What's over?" he asked as Kristoff stood, walking over to Anna's bedside table and grabbing a pitcher of water. Pouring the redhead a cup, he gently pressed it in her hands. She gave him a barely there broken smile that could have easily been mistaken as a grimace. She took her time drinking the water, the cool liquid a relief for her burning throat. After a long moment, she decided to speak again.

"Me and Elsa. It's over between us." She told the two men, voice breaking at the end as more tears fell from her face. Both Kristoff and Adam looked completely shocked.

"What?!" they asked in unison.

"Anna what…? I mean, are you sure? Maybe you're mistaking-" Kristoff started but was cut off by Anna.

"It's not a fucking mistake?!" Anna yelled. The room went completely silent at the redhead's outburst. She sighed heavily. "I'm not mistaking anything." She responded in a quiet voice. "Here. Read for yourself." Anna handed the tear soaked letter that she had read at least a thousand times by now, over to Kristoff. Adam leaned over so he could see it as well.

"My dear sweet Anna,

Let me start this letter by telling you how much you mean to me. You've made me happier in the few months we've been together than I have been in my entire 21 years of living. I know. 21 years doesn't seem long in hindsight. But when you've spent 13 of those locked inside your room, longing to see your sister, dying inside every time you ignore her pleas for companionship, and tortured by a power you can't hope to escape or control; it's an eternity. You are the one thing I care about most in this entire world. I've never loved someone more than I love you. And I never will…

which is why it pangs me to say this… We can no longer be together. We have to end this. I have a responsibility to the people of Arendelle, the crown of Arendelle, our departed parents, and you. I have a duty to always and forever do what's best for you. I was your sister long before I was your lover, and it's my job to take care of you. To protect you.

I've been thinking about this for a long time now. This relationship… this fantasy we've been living… Thinking that we could actually be together. Anna, what we've been doing was stupid and reckless. We should be thankful that nobody has caught on to us sooner. Do you know how dangerous this is? How much danger I've put you in. Even now this selfish heart of mine wants to ball this letter up and throw it away. Right now as I write this, I look over my shoulder and watch you slumber. And all I want to do is crawl back into the bed with you. I want to shut my eyes and snuggle closer to you. I want to breathe in your scent. I want our bodies to become one.

But I can't. Not anymore.

Anna, my love, I have to marry. And I want you to understand that this is what's best for everyone. I love you so much it physically hurts. Please, please understand that I'm doing this for us.

I'll never forget the love you gave me. How you made me feel like I was the most beautiful creature you'd ever seen. And how you made me a better person.

Goodbye Anna."

"Oh no…" Adam whispered as he finished the letter.

"Have you tried to talk to her?" the French prince asked. Anna scoffed and let out a harsh laugh.

"It's hard to talk to someone when you can't even find them. I've looked everywhere in this stupid castle." Anna looked down towards her lap. "She couldn't even tell me to my face…"

Kristoff remained silent as he read and re-read the message. This was happening way too sudden. If Elsa had been thinking about this for a long time like she claimed in the letter, then she would have ended things with Anna long ago. Then he saw it. He didn't know weither it was a slip or hint.

"Anna look at what this says." Kristoff pointed out a sentence in the letter.

"I've read that letter a million times. I'd rather not." Anna mumbled out, head still down.

"You've read it a million times and still missed this?" he asked.

"What?" Anna asked, confused. Kristoff sighed.

"Here, where it says, 'We should be thankful that nobody has caught on to us sooner.'" Kristoff read.

"So?" Anna stated. Kristoff wanted to scream. She just did not get the picture.

"So. 'Caught on to us sooner.' It's obvious that someone found out about you two and is most likely forcing or blacking mailing Elsa into breaking up with you." Adam caught on quickly.

"Exactly!" Kristoff said. Anna's head popped up.

"Let me see that." Kristoff handed the letter back to Anna and she read the sentence over in her head.

"But who do you think knows and is brave enough to threaten the queen?" Adam asked in the background as Anna thought of that question herself. Then it hit her.

"It can only be one of two people." she frowned in anger as the paper crumpled in her hand.

"Has anyone seen Edmond or Rapunzel?"

AN: So classes started last week. :( I hate it! But anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the update. They'll be another one coming sometime this week. No promise on what day that will be, but it will be this week. We're moving things along, getting into the drama. There will be more Elsa and Anna interaction soon, but it may or may not be pleasant. I'm not revealing anything! Just be sure to prepare your feels for one bumby ride!

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, PM or Review and I'll answer them for you. See ya soon!
