Here Comes the Sun

Chapter 40

By: The Duchess of Arendelle

AN: It's a Thanksgiving miracle! An actual update? Yes, yes it is. After months of nothing, I finally have the time to update thanks to a lil' thing called fall break. And honestly guys, I think this hiatus is what I needed because- well, I'll tell you at the end AN. Right now, I'm sure you'd like to read what's happened next, I think you guys are really going to like this chapter because I really enjoyed writing it. ANYWAY, here's an update, all mistakes are my own! Enjoy!

Previously:

"So, what do you want Anna?" Rapunzel asked in a quiet voice.

"I want…" she paused again for a moment. "I want to know… if you have room on your ship for one more passenger?"

Now

"...What? Of course I do- but Anna, this is crazy. You can't just hop on a ship and run away from your problems." Rapunzel explained to her cousin, gently gripping her upper arm.

"Then what am I supposed to do Rapunzel?!" Anna snapped, moving out of the blonde's grasp. "Hm? Just sit around this castle and pretend like everything is all sunshine and unicorns? Pretend like the person I love the most in this entire world isn't getting married to some psychopathic warlock?" Anna paused and took in a deep breath.

"No. I can't do this. I can't be here for this." Anna finished in a defeated tone.

Rapunzel stared at the dejected redhead for a long moment. The blond's features slowly contorted into that of anger as she grabbed Anna by the shoulders again, forcing eye contact.

"So that's it? You just give up. You just hop ship and let that psychopath win? You just leave Elsa here to deal with all of this alone?"

"It's her choice!" Anna replied angrily. Rapunzel scoffed.

"That's bullshit and you know it. Elsa wouldn't be doing this if she had any choice. She's doing this to protect the both of you. She's sacrificing herself and marrying this evil, despicable madman to protect you, and you want to abandon her?" she asked in disbelief.

"What else am I supposed to do then?" Anna practically begged in desperation. Rapunzel looked her straight in the eye.

"Fight. You're supposed to stay and fight. If Elsa actually does get married to that snake so what? That's not game over. There are other ways to defeat him, and get your sister back." Rapunzel paused for a second before continuing in a gentler tone.

"But you can't do that if you just give up and run away."

A deafening silence filled the library as the two princesses stood there, looking at each other. Tears filled the redhead's eyes, and finally, a choked back sob broke the stillness. Anna lurched forward and fell into Rapunzel's arms, wrapping her own arms tightly around the blonde and sobbing into her neck.

"You're right. Oh God, you're so right. I'm a terrible person for even thinking about abandoning Elsa when she needs my love and support the most. I'm a horrible, horrible person." she continued to sob as Rapunzel hushed her and whispered words of confort.

"No you're not. No you're not. You're not a horrible person. You were just scared sweetie, no one can fault you for being scared." Rapunzel whispered gently as she held the redhead. Rapunzel carefully lowered them both to the floor, not breaking the embrace as she continued to comfort her distraught cousin.

The two girls stayed like that for almost an hour until Anna's sobs turned into the occasional hiccup and hiccups into soft sniffles. Slowly, Rapunzel stood, holding out a hand to the redhead. Anna smiled slightly and accepted the proffered limb. Carefully getting to her feet, she held on to the hand and gently brought the blonde into light hug, this one much softer and filled with less desperation.

"Thank you." she whisper as they broke the embrace.

"Anytime." Rapunzel replied in all sincerity.

After another beat of silence, Anna looked at the blonde and asked, "What should I do now?"

Rapunzel gave her a sad smile and replied, "I think you need to go to Elsa. Talk to her. Spend as much time with her as possible. I have a feeling these next few months are going to be hell and it's going to get tougher and tougher to spend some alone time with her."

Anna slowly nodded, tears filling her eyes again, but she refused to let them fall.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm going to my chambers to freshen up, then I think I'll go see her." Anna replied, her voice cracking only slightly. Rapunzel nodded her head in sympathy.

"I'll see you again before I leave right?"

"Of course, your goodbye feast is tonight, I'll be there." she told the blonde, a small smile growing on her face. Rapunzel flashed a smile back.

"See you then.' she replied. Anna nodded slightly before taking a few breaths, dabbing her eyes again, and then turning to walk out of the library. Rapunzel watched the redhead leave as the smile dropped from her face replaced by a worried frown.

******************************FROZEN**************************************

1 hour later

A knock came at Elsa's office door and she sighed heavily and rubbed at her eyes. "I'm very busy right now, please go away." she replied in annoyance. She had been previously spending the better part of 3 hours going back and forth from crying almost hysterically and angrily throwing things. Ever since the young stable hand had come to her, all nerves and stutters, and told her that Anna had tried to leave, she couldn't help the few tears that had slipped her eyes before the stable hand's own eyes widened and he quickly bowed and excused himself.

Now, she was straightening her office back up, picking the three remaining books from her earlier outburst off of the floor. As she gathered the books, she heard the large wooden door slowly creak open. The blonde ice queen quickly straighten up, ready to deliver her iciest death glare to whomever had deemed themselves bold enough to enter her office without permission.

When she turned around and saw a nervous and sad looking redhead fiddling with a braid and standing in her doorway, all icy heat left her and she stared at the girl in happy/sad anticipation.

The silence that followed was almost suffocating as the two women just stood there, staring at each other, neither bothering to break the quiet that had settled over them.

With a shake of her head to break her from whatever trance she was in, Elsa finally cleared her throat to speak.

"Anna, I-" she started but the redhead instantly cut her off.

"You stopped me from leaving." she simply said. Elsa stared at her and then looked down at the books in her hand.

"Yes." she replied. She didn't know what else to say.

"You knew I would try to leave and you stopped me." Anna continued.

"Yes." was Elsa's simple reply.

"You know, I almost left anyway. With Rapunzel. I was thinking about jumping on her ship and joining her in Corona for a little while."

Elsa's head snapped up at that and she stared at Anna in panic, eyes wide and mouth slightly ajar.

Just as the blonde was about to let out a pleading protest, Anna continued. "I said almost, Elsa." She paused to shut the heavy office door behind her before slowly advancing on the terrified blonde. 'Was Anna seriously thinking about leaving her? She wouldn't be able to survive if the redhead left, and that was as much a fact as the sun rising and falling.'

"But then Rapunzel and I had a long, truth filled chat. And she made me see things… clearly." Anna stopped in front of Elsa and the blonde eyed her nervously, bottom lip lightly gripped between her teeth.

Slowly, Anna brought her hands up and rescued Elsa's lip from her teeth's grasp. Then, she brought the blonde into a slow and gentle kiss. The queen of ice was caught off guard by this (dropping the leather bound books she'd still been holding to the floor), but soon closed her eyes and sank into the kiss, allowing her lips to move along with the redhead's.

When their lips finally parted from the blonde's, Anna didn't go far, instead lightly placing her forehead against Elsa's, her eyes still closed from the breathtaking kiss. "I'm so, so sorry Elsa." she whisper, voice cracking as tears still escaped through her closed eyelids.

"I almost gave up. And I- I was s- so selfish to just think about myself and my own feelings. I didn't think about what this meant for you. The sacrifices you're making. How you're the one being forced to marry that- that asshole- and I- I just-" Anna was cut off as Elsa smashed their lips back together, kissing the redhead through her broken sobs.

"It's okay Anna." The blonde sobbed back, continuing to place chaste kisses to the redhead's lips. "It's okay. I understand." she assured the girl as she brought her arms around Anna's waist.

"I won't give up Elsa. I'll never give up. I love you so much and I know we'll find a way. I don't care how long it takes, we'll find a way." Anna told the blonde with steely determination in her tear filled eyes. Elsa smiled at her and held her closer.

"I know you will Anna. I believe in you. You're the bravest, smartest, most incredible person I've ever met, and I honestly don't think there's anything you can't do." Elsa pulled back slightly to look Anna in the eye.

"And… I'm sorry for what I have to do." she started and bought one hand up to wipe a lone tear that rolled down Anna's cheek. "I'm sorry that this is happening to us, but I promise you... this is not the end of us. I won't let it be. You are the heat that warms my heart and I won't lose you." Elsa told the redhead, causing a smile, a real smile, to break across Anna's face.

"Up until now we've been playing into Edmond's hand. We've been arguing and crying and running away from the real problem. Him. But I'm not running anymore Elsa. So let's play his game. Let's make him think we're broken and beaten, but let's really show him that he's going to need to do a hell of a lot better to break us apart. You're my everything Elsa, and I'll be damned if I let the likes of Edmond take you from me."

AN: Whose happy about this development? That these two beautiful people are finally about to take charge of their own destinies? I am! Anyway, I'm really sorry for the wait, but I hope it was worth it. Like I was saying in the intro's AN, I'm really glad I took this hiatus because it gave me time to shake the cobwebs out of my mind and get inspiration for this story. I know where it's going now and I'm flowing with ideas.

Thanks to everyone who commented and messaged me about an update and their thoughts on the story, it really really inspired me to write and it feels good to know you guys are still reading this. So thank you thank you and I hope you guys continue to review to tell me your opinions. Your opinions and criticism really help make me a better writer and it really kicks me into gear!

Hope you enjoyed this chapter 4-0 and here's hoping it doesn't take another 8 months to update! XD

Happy Thanksgiving!
