Pokémon XY: Road of Rainbow

Chapter 4- Giving Chase at the Rhyhorn Race!

After meeting Serena, she, and Rainbow head back to Santalune Gym where Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie had just arrived, with Ash winning his first Kalos Badge and a rivalry between Ash and Rainbow Dash was born.

"So, hey! Rainbow! Serena! Where you two headed off to?" Ash asked the two of them.

"I was thinking whether I should go Cyllage City alone, or together…" Rainbow explained while Serena stammered her words.

"Why don't you two come along with us?" Ash asked. "Pika!" Pikachu agreed. Bonnie immediately went with the idea, running to both trainers.

"Yeah! That'd be fun! Come with us! We'll have a great time!" Bonnie recommended. She held both Rainbow's and Serena's hands to pull the two over.

"Yeah! Sounds like an excellent idea to me!" Clemont agreed.

Ash nodded in agreement. "Thanks to both of you, I came with the Santalune Gym strategy! And if you two could help me from on out… Uh… It would be great. " He explained. Rainbow and Swellow looked at each other for a moment.

They both nodded as they both smiled at Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie.

"Sure thing! It'd be great to have company." Rainbow replied.

"Swell!" Swellow agreed.

"Sure! How could say no to all that?" Serena agreed.

"Alright, that the spirit!" Ash exclaimed.

With Rainbow Dash and Serena in tow were now heading their way to Cyllage City.

Moments later, the group was traveling through the forest.

"As long we're going to Lumiose City, I'd like to take a shot at the Lumisoe Gym," Ash explained.

"That won't be possible until you have four gym badges." Rainbow reminded him.

"Did you try to challenge it?" He asked.

"No. I didn't start my journey right then. But I heard that the Gym Leader had made conditions to challenge the gym." Rainbow answered.

"Swellow." Swellow nodded in agreement.

"Well it's probably a good idea to keep in mind you haven't been around in the Kalos Region for long Ash and Rainbow, you're a bit, well… inexperienced for just battling with Swellow.

Both Rainbow and Swellow were a little annoyed by what Clemont had said.

"I've trained with Swellow for nearly two years, and beat Viola without breaking a sweat, and never lost a battle before. What makes you say that was a little rusty." Rainbow said dryly.

Clemont gulped as he changed the subject. "W-Well I've got an idea! Why don't you utilize the time to catch another Kalos Pokémon." He suggested.

Rainbow scoffed as he turned away, with Swellow doing the same. For Ash, he instantly agreed to the idea.

"Yeah! That's a good point! Now… where is my next Pokémon hanging out? " Ash asked, looking with Pikachu doing the same.

Meanwhile with Rainbow….

"Swellow. Did you feel that?" Rainbow asked her partner.

"Swell" Swellow replied with a nod.

Both of them ran off the path, each hiding behind a tree. The sounds they heard got closer. Just then, the sounds became rumbling. Rainbow and Swellow looked close to see that a group of Rhyhorn was charging, running onto the path. As they were gone, Rainbow and Swellow got back onto the path, as they looked back.

"Is this... A Rhyhorn race?" Rainbow asked.

"That's right!" a voice called. The duo turned around to see Officer Jenny coming by on her motorbike. "This is one of the Rhyhorn racecourses. By the way, what are you doing here anyway?" She asked the two.

"Sorry, we didn't expect this path to be a course of the race," Rainbow explain while her partner agreed.

"Alright then. I'll let this one slide, but next time be careful all right?" Jenny warned them.

The two of them nodded as Officer Jenny left letting her know that her friends were on the path.

"Whoops, I guess we left them behind didn't we?" Rainbow asked.

"Low…" Swellow sighed in disappointment with others trailing behind.

Rainbow entered a daze for a bit until Swellow pecked her neck snapping her out of it.

"Swell?" Swellow asked.

Rainbow widened her eyes looking at her partner. "Sorry, Swellow. I was remembering the last time we saw a race." Rainbow apologize.

Swellow nodded her head, and the two of them kept on walking until they the village.

"This must be Odyssey Village…" Rainbow whispered while looking around.

As she and Swellow were walking by, one kid let out a yell. "Look! It's Swellow Girl!" One boy called.

Soon, a few other people grew amazed and surprised to see Rainbow in person, As two pals blushed they happened to see Ash and the others running towards her.

"You didn't have to run off like that!" Ash panted as he was catching his breath.

Rainbow twitched, glaring at him at Ash. "Swellow and I didn't runoff. You guys were going slow as hell if haven't noticed." The other four laughed nervously, before watching the race besides Rainbow and the Swallow Pokémon. They all watched on the plasma screen which show that a Rhyhorn Racer who had #5 had just won the race.

"Wow! A Rhyhorn Race! Never seen before!" Ash exclaimed.

"Rhyhorn races are really popular in the Kalos Region," Clemont explained.

"This is so awesome to watch!"

"Pika!" Pikachu agreed.

"Rhyhorn are so cute, too!" Bonnie said.

Rainbow made a weird look on her face at what had Bonnie had just said.

"You know, they even have special Rhyhorn races in bigger cities," Serena stated.

Ash turned to Serena in amazement. "Really? You sure know a lot!"

"Well, I guess so…" Serena replied while being a little unsure about it. While Serena explained just outside of the Village, we see two individuals with a Murkrow.

"It would seem that this place a collection of Rhyhorn and a certain Pikachu." The man said. "Wait until the guys hear this."

"I hear you." The woman agrees. "All the Rhyhorn must be strong, and by catching all of them, we earn the Boss seal of Approval, Grade A!"

As two characters left, Serena reluctantly helps out Ash and Rainbow with preparing for the final day of the Rhyhorn Race Day, where any racer can join, rookie or veteran. It is now nighttime as our heroes were fast asleep all but one.

Both Serena and Fennekin were still up in the kitchen cooking something

"Fennekin!" The Fox Pokémon squeaked. Serena motioned her starter to stay quiet.

"We need to say quietly." She whispered. "Fennekin…" Fenekin nodded, covering her mouth with her paw.

Serena took the batch of cookies and put them in the oven, smiling. " I hoped they turn out alright!" Serena giggled as she closed the oven.

The Next Morning…

It was a bright day as the Rhyhorn race was about to start. The six races along with Ash and Rainbow were at the starting line.

"Best of luck to both of you!" Bonnie cheered along with Dedenne.

"Thanks! I'll do my best!: Ash thanked.

"We'll both do our best!" Rainbow smirked.

"Get set, GO!" The MC shouted, The green flag gave the sign, as the race began! The four Rhyhorn racers went ahead, as Rainbow behind and Ash got off a few minutes behind everyone else as he was dead last out of the gate.

"That's not a good start for Ash…" Bonnie sighed.

"I hope the two of them are okay." Serena sighed while being concerned.

…

A little time later both Rainbow and Ash were catching up with the other racers.

"So, you managed to catch up with us Ash, but I going to win this thing." Said Rainbow.

"As if!" Ash replied to her.

Back to the sidelines, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie, and the Pokémon watched the cameras, until all four of them went black.

"Uh oh. We lost our live feed! Something must've happened on the course! But what!?" The MC announced also shocked by the blackout.

Clemont got up and began to head to the course. "We should go investigate!" He suggested. Everyone else followed suit.

Back with Ash and Rainbow…

"That's weird what happened to the other racers?" Ash wondered.

Pikachu went to Rhyhorn's horn to look around closely. Suddenly as if waring, Rainbow widened his eyes, giving Rhyhorn to signal to stop.

"Rhyhorn! Ash! Stop!" Rainbow yelled. Ash grew startled while her Rhyhorn stopped completely being confused in the process. Just as Ash's Rhyhorn raced through, a glowing net flew into the air capturing Ash in a bind. He let out a yell as he was forced to ground by the net. "Pika Pi!" Pikachu called. Just then glowing box trapped Pikachu and Rhyhorn, turning into a cage.

Both Rainbow and Ash gasped as she got off her Rhyhorn. As she got off, another net came by, this time toward Rainbow. The Swellow Girl dodged the net making it useless.

"What is going on around here!?" Ash demanded. Suddenly as he turned he gasped.

Rainbow also turned to see the other racers were tied up. "Drat! You missed the other twerp!" A woman's voice called out angrily. The trainers turned to see the culprits, There were four people in uniforms with an R on them. A Meowth, Wobbuffet, and Murkow stood next to them.

"Who said that!?" Ash snapped. The people sneered ass they began their motto

Prepare for Trouble!

Make it Double!

To protect the world from devastation!

To unite all people within our nation!

To denounce the evils of truth and love!

To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie!

James!

Dana!

Duke!

Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!

Meowth! That's right!

Wobbuffet!

Murkow!

Ash grew angry as Rainbow got confused. "Team Rocket? Who the hell are they?" Rainbow asked.

"Bad guys who steal other people's Pokémon!" He explained then turned to the evil quintet. "You guys always try to mess everything up!"

James sneered and took a remote. "Who cares? We win. You Lose." He presses the button which causes the cage that Pikachu and Rhyhorn to connect with the others. Meowth snickered as he leaped to the front car. "All aboard the Rhyhorn Express! Do we have Rhyhorn? Yes!" He sneered.

Rainbow was surprised that Meowth talking but glared at the criminals. "Hold it! What do you plan on doing with them?"

Dana glared at her. "For obvious reasons, to conquer the world! Along with Pikachu."

James took out a Pokeball. "Inkay! Prepare for our escape!" James called, The Revolving Pokémon appeared and squirted ink at Rainbow's eyes.

"Damnit! I can't see!' Rainbow grunted as she tried to rub the ink of her.

"No! Rainbow!" Ash gasped as Team Rocket laughed.

"Since you're all tied all up and blinded we bid you, farewell twerps!" Jessie cackled.

"I want Pikachu back!" Ash demanded but was ignored.

"You won't get away with this!" Rainbow snapped at them.

"But we just did! Suck on that!" Duke grinned. Just then as a miracle a couple of Mud Shots attacks appeared, destroying the engines. Meowth let out a yelp of surprise. Jessie, Duke, Dana, and James fell in a surprising call.

"Ugh… Check, please…" Meowth grumbled as wiped the mind off his face, Bunnelby popped out the ground. Way to go Bunnelby!" Clemont called. Team Rocket turned to see Clemont panting. "Looks we made it in time!"

"Clemont!" Ash called in relief. Rainbow perked her head up to hear Clemont, as he kept on trying to the ink off her eyes. As she was doing that, Bonnie, Serena, and the Pokémon ran by.

"Ash! Rainbow!" Serena called.

"Are you two okay?" Bonnie asked.

Swellow flew over to Rainbow as Ash smiled, "Serena! Bonnie! Am I glad to see you!" Ash exclaimed.

Swellow rubbed the rest of the ink with her wing off of Rainbow giving her sight back. "Thanks, buddy." Rainbow thanked. "Swell," Swellow replied with a nod, relieved that her trainer was okay.

"I had a feeling something bad was happening, but I never imagined it would like this!" He explained.

Bonnie pouted as she saw the bad guys. " Bad is right, it's Team Rocket!" Bonnie shrieked angrily at them

Team Rocket got up recovering from the blow they had glaring at the group.

"You're going regret saying that short stuff!" Duke snapped. Just then a Pokeball opened from Rainbow's belt as it was revealed to be Pansear. "Pan! Pansear!" Pansear growled and glared at Team Rocket. At the same time, Fennekin nudged on Serena's leg. Both Rainbow and Serena turned to fire types seeing what they want.

"Oh right! Pikachu and the others are in trouble, and you want to help them! Is that right?" Serena asked.

"Same with you Pansear?" Rainbow asked her Pokémon.

Both nodded as they stand side by side glaring at Team Rocket.

"Okay then! Pansear, use Flame Burst!" Rainbow called.

"Fennekin! Ember!" Serena called.

The two fire types shot their attacks at Team Rocket. All four of them screamed as they felt the burning from their back. As they panicked James accidentally drop the remote causing him and the others to gasp.

Clemont took his chance to destroy it as he grabbed a rock and ran over. "For the future of science!" Clemont exclaimed as he smashed the remote causing all the cages to disappear.

"Uh oh! This not good." Dana said as Team Rocket corner by a heard of Rhyhorn.

"Feels kind of drafty out here!" Jessie stuttered.

"You're feeling the winds of wipeout!' James shuddered.

"Hey relax! Getting upset is bad for our health!" Duke exclaimed. But, the Rhyhorn group ignored Duke and charged at them, smashing them into the air. Team Rocket let out a scream as they disappeared.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF INSTEAD!"

As they were gone Officer Jenny came checking to make sure that everybody was okay. "I need everybody to keep the area clear! I'll be coming to you individually to get your statements later!" She called.

Rainbow sighed. "I guess the race is over, then," Rainbow muttered. Ash let a grin and patted Rainbow's back.

"We're calling this a tie okay?" Ash asked her.

Rainbow smiled lightly and nodded. "Sure thing."

Later at sunset, Serena introduced everyone to her mom.

"Nice to meet you! My name's Ash and this is my buddy, Pikachu!" Ash introduced himself and Pikachu.

"Pika Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.

"I'm Clemont! Hey there!" He called as Ash push him out of the way to see Serena's mom that's when Bonnie pushed him out of the way.

"My name's Bonnie! This is Dedenne!" She exclaimed. Then Serena got into the screen, showing her mother her starter.

"Take a look! Fennekin! You see, Fennekin is my new partner!" Serena exclaimed.

"Hi, nice to meet you." Serena's mom chuckled. Then Ash called Rainbow over.

"Hey Rainbow Dash! You need to hello as well." Ash called her over.

Rainbow appeared in front of the screen.

"Mrs. Grace. It's been a while hasn't it?" Rainbow asked.

"Yes... It surely was, Rainbow I see that you met Serena." Grace giggled as her daughter was shocked by this.

"Mom. You know Rainbow?" Serena asked.

"Yes. He was the boy I was talking about to you after my race." Grace answered.

Serena grew surprised, smiling then Ash got into the screen, seeing and told her that Serena taught him how to ride a Rhyhorn, which caused her to scold him who then push Ash off the screen.

"Mom! Guess what!? You see I've decided to with Ash, Rainbow and all their friends! Isn't that the best?" she asked.

"Really? That's great! Have a good time!" Grace giggled.

"M-Mom? …"

"I mean it. It'll wonderful experience for you. I'm sure." Grace answered.'

Later…

"Sorry for the delay! I'm going with you! Isn't that great?' Serena asked.

"Yeah. It sure is!" Ash agreed.

"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.

"And we'll be best friends!" Bonnie added along.

"We sure will! Oh, that reminds me!" Serena reminded herself and gave bags of cookies to everyone. "Cookies for everyone!"

"Awesome!" Ash exclaimed.

"Yippee!" Bonnie squealed.

"Wow! Thank you very much!" Clemont thanked her.

Everyone was smiling as they enjoyed their cookies while Rainbow Dash looked in the sky.

"Look out Kalos League! They're going to be a new champ in the region!" She thought to herself.

And so, Rainbow and Ash had a tie since the race has been interrupted by Team Rocket. With them out of the way, our heroes will have more exciting events as they move forward to Cyllage City.
