Sora groaned as he shielded his eyes from the bright sun. He could feel the familiar sensation of soft sand beneath him. Was…was he really back? Opening his eyes, he was greeted by the greatest sight he could think of.
"Hey there," Kairi smiled from her position atop him. They were incredibly close, and he would not have it any other way.
"We're back!" Sora smiled back as he suddenly pulled Kairi down into a passionate kiss. The redhead was taken off guard, but she quickly returned the gesture until they ended up parting for air.
"We're fine too, thanks for asking."
Kairi yelped and quickly rolled off of Sora as the two looked to the source of the voice red faced. Despite his annoyed tone, Riku was grinning as he leaned on his keyblade planted in the sand while Donald and Goofy restrained their laughter.
"Don't mind us. We should report to the king and the others anyway." Riku walked off with the other two while wearing the smuggest grin Sora had ever seen, "Just don't have too much fun."
The two blushed even as they were left alone when Kairi looked off to the side and noticed something beside Sora, "I guess we should get you a new one."
"Hmm?" Sora perked his brow before looking at the broken keyblade handle to his side, "Oh." He picked it up and looked it over, "You know, I used to think this thing was so cool. That I was special, at least for a while. That I could finally protect you, but…it seems to get in between us more than anything. I don't know if I want another one."
"Sora, that's sweet, but I wouldn't want you to stop protecting people for me."
"I know," Sora sighed before smiling wide again, "By the way, is your offer still open?"
"What offer?" Kairi looked at Sora with a confused smile.
"Back at Disney Castle," Sora replied trying to control his encroaching blush.
"Huh…oh!" Kairi's face burned, "Are you sure? Like you said, it's a bit sudden. Aren't you afraid we'd be moving too quickly?"
"I'm afraid of moving too slowly," Sora quickly hopped to his feet and offered his free hand that was not holding the remains of his keyblade to his beloved, "Come on, I want to show you something."
Kairi could hardly refuse as she took his hand and let him lead her to the secret place. Kairi was a bit confused though. What could he possibly want to show her in there? Aside from that she supposed.
"Is this what you wanted to show me?" Kairi asked even as she smiled fondly at the drawing on the cave wall. So many memories. Some good, a lot not so good, but through it all, here they were. Together.
"Sorta, but not really," Sora replied with a grin before leaning back and channeling what was left of his keyblade's power for one last thrust. He shoved the broken weapon into the rockface a bit above the drawing allowing the magic to practically fuse the handle and rock together.
Smiling, Sora put one hand on the side guard closest to him, "Kairi, every swing of this weapon, was for you. In some way, whether I realized it or not, I did it for you. Because I love you, Kairi. I believe I've loved you longer than I even knew. Maybe it's childish, but I know my feelings are genuine, and I would do everything I've done ten times over if it meant being with you."
"Sora…" Kairi struggled to speak over the lump in her throat even as her eyes watered.
"I know we maybe haven't spent as much time together as maybe we should for something like this, but I promise you, Kairi, I will never stop fighting for you. To be with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. No matter what that life entails whether it be adventuring through the worlds or quietly living here. So long as I'm with you, I'll be happy. I realized during my travels that I had the one thing I really wanted before, and then I lost you. Well, I never want to lose you again. We don't have to right away, but if you'd have me, I would be honored to spend the rest of my life with you."
Kairi wiped a tear from her eye as her smile widened and she grabbed the opposite end of the guard, "Sora, I never stopped believing you would be there for me. Even before all this started, I always knew I could rely on you. You made the new girl feel welcome and invited. You made me part of your group.
"As we grew older, I knew I felt something special for you. I wasn't quite sure what it was until faced with the end of the world and seeing the lengths you went to in order to bring me back, but when we were separated as the islands were restored, I already knew.
"Life has made it hard to be together lately, but you are worth fighting for. I'm honored that you think I am too. Even if the future is uncertain, I promise you that I will be here for you if you'll allow me. I would love nothing more than confirming our bond so that we may never truly be separated again.
"I love you, Sora."
He grinned back at her, "I love you too, Kairi. From now on, we go together, and even if we're apart, we won't be separated another day."
A/N: At least there was a happy end to the angst. That said, I may not do much more KH. I do have a Roxas and Xion thing I've started, but I'm not sure if I'll post it.
