Deep in the forest, where the sunlight passed through the trees in a few scattered beams, Maul swallowed the last piece of veal she had. She felt better to have a half full stomach, although she was still hungry. She reached under her foot and pulled up a fox that she had trapped by the tail. The fox was scared for his life and tried to wiggle out of her grasp. She chuckled at the poor critter, and said,

"Awww, you poor little thing. Still got some fight in you even when you're about to die? How admirable. Well, time to feast. Oh... and I'll be looking for your mate and cubs too. I'm sure bringing your head to them will definitely frighten them. That would make them more appetizing."

The fox's ears lowered as he stared at her in fright and anguish. Maul used her other hand to grab the back of his neck, and then she lifted him up as she opened her mouth wide. Before she could chomp on him, a flash passed by as the fox disappeared with it. Maul's eyes widened, and she closed her mouth and looked towards where the flash went. She saw a young woman holding the fox under her arm in a landing stance.

"What's this?" Maul asked, a curious expression on her face of the new comer.

"Run. Now," Mirror told the fox, as she placed him on the ground and he ran as fast as he could away from them to find his family.

Mirror noticed the splats of blood that littered the area, as well as on Maul's chin. She looked at Maul with contempt and annoyance, but she kept herself calm. Maul recognized her general scent and realized who she seemed.

"Well, well, well. Who would've thought I'd find one like you here. I thought this place was just a forest. Tsk. How pesky it is when people live somewhere," Maul said, annoyed as she stood on all fours.

"You know, playing with your food is one thing, but tormenting is way messed up. This place is balanced and it doesn't need a monstrous appetite like yours to ruin it! Especially with your messed up ideology! Now if you don't mind, which I don't care, leave this world now," Mirror sternly commanded.

"Hmm, your boldness is quite admirable considering the beast I am. I shall indeed leave soon. Animals have a sweeter taste then humans and monsters considering they taste more like wet wood, so I can't help but indulge when it's available. Though for the sake of avoiding a quarrel since I'm feeling quite generous, once I have my fill, I'll leave this place alone from now on. Sound fair… Curtain?" Maul asked with a venomous tone when she said her name.

Mirror narrowed her eyes and replied, "So my suspicious are correct about you then… you're a Corruption. Usually an enemy aligned to Chaos…"

"And you are a form of Curtain, an enemy of Corruption and aligned to Balance… we may have differences, but surely there can be a compromise for now? I'm glad to finally be eating which is enough for me to grant mercy, and since I don't have a Curtain or world ot worry about, I'd prefer to keep it that way," Maul said.

"You're not eating anything here! You just barged in and started killing and eating like a JERK and now you want to eat more before you leave?! You didn't ask permission already, and I'm already pissed at what you've done, so leave now! I know you wouldn't just leave so easy even if you have your way, Corruption!" Mirror said.

"Ugh. Just call me Maul. And I already said… I'm NOT leaving without MY FILL!" Maul shouted as she stomped her foot.

"Well then Maul! I'm Mirror and I'm not letting you! So get out, you sicko!" Mirror yelled back as she held her dagger up in a fighting stance.

The two began to fight, barely landing hits on one another, but determined to take the other down.

Error was looking for them at a quickening pace when he heard the echoing of yells and slash sounds. He hopped up on the trees to see if Mirror needed help, and to take Maul by surprise. When he was close enough, he saw the two facing each other with glares and bared fangs. Mirror had a cut on the upper left side of her head with a few minor cuts on her arms, while Maul had a gash on her back and other cuts that she ignored.

"You're a strong little worm, aren't you?" Maul said, scratching the ground with her claws.

"Yeah. I'll admit, you're strong too, cretin," Mirror said.

"Hehehe. Your power is different from this place. Too different. You're not from this world, are you? Even though you protect it, you must have just found it and decided to call it home, right?" Mail asked, a dark grin beginning to form on her face as Mirror's eyes widened.

"How… did you even know that?" Mirror asked.

"I have high sensory abilities being a hunter. I can even tell if you belong to a world or not, and I can tell this isn't where you are from. This world must have caught your fancy to want to protect it so, but to actually live here where no other people are is quite peculiar, no? An isolated location like this… someplace someone like me would go to as well," Maul said, tilting her head slightly.

"Wait… what does me not being from here and living here have to do with you? I do like this world and I just want it to be safe," Mirror said, glaring at her.

"Ahh, but you don't stay here as I can tell from the various scents of other locations. You've been traveling around, but surely it's to see other worlds even though you aren't a part of any of them… Makes me wonder if you feel too out of place to be among others often and run here when there's no where to go… Or maybe to lay out your sorrows since no one else is around to see how sad you really must be being aaaaall alone," Maul said.

"Wh… What? Just shut up! It's not like that!" Mirror said, her hands slightly shaken.

"I'm not an idiot, young one, and I've seen many others besides my other selves. It's quite an interesting thing when you have no home or world or people of your own, you either search for it, find it and remain, or isolate yourself and either stay in your world or wish from a distance to be like others and suffer. In your case… it hurts you to see those other versions of you living in worlds or easily adjusting into places not their own. They have a place they belong, and you haven't found a place for yourself among other people that you feel complete, so you hide here. This is your hiding place. A place where you can hide from the truth…" Maul said with a small chuckle.

"Just… Just shut up! You don't know anything… I don't care to be like them, I just want… I just want to find my own thing is all! Just leave me alo-" Mirror stopped speaking as her stance faltered from her hands shaking more.

"See? You're first reaction is to get away. To hide. To hide from your pain… to hide from the truth… You're aaaaaaall alone, Mirror…" Maul said, standing up on her two back feet and raising a clawed hand with a sick grin.

"And no one is here to save you when you need it most," Maul said with a cackle as she raised a clawed hand up.

Mirror trembled to her knees as her eyes began to water from the repeated strikes of Maul's words, since she seemed to read her opponent as she fought them and read her emotions and thoughts. The pain she had thought she had gotten over resurfaced as her dagger disappeared into nothing.

Just like her life so far.

It started with nothing, and like the blade all she had worked up to this point felt empty now. A being created between the Mirror world and normal world, having powers rare powers of reflections and light, with no world and no place she felt she belonged to for so long. She saw how content others where with a world of their own or finding one they could call home, and how they had someone to share it with like family and friends. When she felt pained by it all, she would return to this forest world, which was the first normal world place she appeared in to forget the empty feeling in her heart, and how she missed her.

She tried to go forth and help people, epsecially those like her so that they wouldn't have to suffer as she has, but she couldn't help herself, and it made her heart ache. But she decided to press on and try her hardest to keep moving forward and hope that one day she would finally find her home, herself, and the missing piece in her heart.

But at this moment, her soul felt empty with her scattered heart. Maul continued her attack to strike Mirror down, as she no longer cared as her tears came down.

However, Mauls' attack was stopped as Mirror weakly looked up to see blue strings wrapped on the beast's arm. She was in such distress that at first she didn't recognize the strings, though the pain in her chest made her instinctly place her hand over her chest and hang her head low.

"Stubborn fool! Why do you interfere?! I'm trying to rid this world of it's guardian! What is it your business?!" Maul snarled.

"How about you shut the hell up and stop acting like a nagging witch! The only person who should be rid of is a freaky snake like you!" Error said, jumping down from the trees and landing on the ground while pulling Maul's arm down too.

"Detestable brat! How you even are here is beyond me! Unless… ah I see. So two rejects of either worlds or people found one another and formed a Reject Club? Hahaha. How pathetically sad. Two beings of potential with no true purpose in their empty lives. Such a wonderful kind of people to exploit for laughs, especially her who cries!" Maul said, leaping at Error with her other clawed hand.

Error used the strings in his other hand to catch her arm as he said, "Listen up, first of all, no one has a true purpose until they find one for themselves! I thought being a destroyer gave me purpose, but I see that that's not just what I am capable of! And just because I'm independent doesn't make me empty or a reject! I choose how I want to be and who I want to be and that's the way I like it! Just as you found your purpose being a psychotic jerk, I can forge my own path, and I know Mirror can too!"

Error jumped forward and kicked Maul in the face as he shouted, "Now get out of this world, and never come back! I'll erase the hell out of you and every Corruption in existence if you DARE to set foot in this place again!"

He released his strings as she stumbled back while holding her face. Error summoned forth his dark Gaster blasters, boney dragon-like heads that opened their mouths to fire beams, and shot Maul many times until she could barely stand. Maul was enraged, which is what she used to stand up the best she could on four legs, and she opened a portal to leave.

"Darn you, Error... I will concede my defeat. Screw this world then! There are plenty of others out there," Maul said, and she quickly escaped through the portal.

Error made sure she was gone, and then he dismissed his blasters and the strings. He walked towards where Mirror was, which wasn't far, as she stood with her hands on her knees watching him. He could see her tears still trailing down her cheeks, although her eyes held less sadness, and more amazement at him. Error knelt down on one knee next to her and asked,

"Are you alright, Mirror? I mean, I can see that your head is still bleeding a bit, but I mean are you okay, like your feelings and junk?"

Error wasn't experienced in comforting people, but for Mirror's sake he was trying.

"I feel a little better. Thank you, for getting her out of here... and for defending me again," Mirror said, wiping her still tear-flowing eyes.

"Eh, it was no problem. That freaking punk will never set foot in this world again if I have anything to say about it, and I do," Error said.

"I'm sorry for leaving you to deal with her… I'm just weak," Mirror said averting her gaze.

"Hey," Error called as she looked up at his more serious expression.

"Don't believe what that idiot said. She was trying to get under your skin to hurt you. You're better then that, and stronger. I should know. Running from you was like trying to run from a lion with a peg leg," Error said, earning a small chuckle from Mirror as he smiled.

"It's just… I've felt so out of place, and it's always bothered me how empty I've felt… inside," Mirror covered her face as she started to sniffle and silently cry, trying to hide it from him even though she knew it was obvious to him.

Error signed, understanding that she was still hurt, and he took a moment to observe his surroundings.

'This place will be safe for the time being,' Error thought as he stood up to move closer to Mirror.

He placed one arm around her back and had her stand as he placed his other arm under her knees to lift her up from the ground in his arms. She was still crying as she leaned her head onto his chest, which made Error flinch as he stood very still. It was the first time he's ever been this close to someone. He could hear her crying soften, as his eyes did, and he raised one finger as a portal to the anti-void opened up.

As he walked towards the portal, with Mirror in his arms and the empty world before him, he realized that at this point he wasn't empty on the inside as this world always was. He glanced at Mirror, knowing that she needed him right now, and realizing that the part of himself that was formally empty needed her as well. It dawned on him that the emptiness he felt inside a few days ago was the feeling of being needed in some way.

He looked down at her and said, "I think I figured out what I'd like you to get for me."

Mirror looked up at him with a sniffle to hear what it was, and he smirked sweetly and said,

"Time with you."

Mirror's eyes brightened through her tears as she was surprised and also felt a warmth in her heart from what he said. She smiled and gave him a little nod, and he carried her along while the portal behind them closed.
