Chapter 10: Deep Sea King

"Alert! City-J is being invaded by several Demon level monsters! Retreat to the nearby designated shelter! Alert! City-J is—"

A truck was flung across the mostly deserted street, striking the loudspeaker. Giant sea creatures flooded across the empty roads, making havoc. One shark-headed monster gleefully grabbed a building and began pushing against its foundation. The concrete cracked and a few moments later the rest of the building collapsed over the shark, who emerged from the rubble unscathed and triumphant… until a spear whizzing through the air cleaved the monster's arm off.

"That's me, Stinger!" said a man in a tight black wetsuit. The spear returned to his hand like a magnet. "Thanks in advance for the wonderful evening I'm gonna have! Now who wants to get some?"

"Teacher, you're officially back to the second ranked spot."

Tatsumaki nodded.

"And there's also an attack in City-J."

Tatsumaki continued to nod, disinterested.

"Multiple Demon level threats."

She looked over.

"Alright, this better be worth my time. Let's go."

The esper thought.

"Hey, Genos, why don't I actually teach you some things now?"

She headed for the balcony sliding door.

"What do you mean, Teacher? I believe you have been teaching me for a while."

"Nevermind."

They took off.

"Take that!"

Stinger jumped around, dodging the punches and swings of giant sea monsters, and flitting his spear into the openings of the salty villains.

"You're no match for me!"

The hero spat out from his puffy lips and rubbed his black eye when Demon Cyborg and Terrible Tornado flew into view.

"S-Class?" Stinger stretched out his arms and laughed. "For this monster clean-up?"

Stinger launched his spear through a nearby hulking crab.

"Genos, you said there'd be tough monsters."

"Stinger, A-Class Rank 11 Hero, are there any strong mysterious beings here?"

Stinger looked around, noticing a shadowy figure in the distance.

"No, but watch this!"

He sprinted towards the figure, which was noticeably buffer than the rest of the monsters. It emitted an aura, and stinked like fish. Stinger stopped and held his nose.

"Holy moly, ever heard of deodorant? How does dead octopus smell better than you? And what the hell are you wearing?"

The aquamarine humanoid wore a regal cape and donned a golden crown. Red heart-shaped pasties covered where his nipples might have been, matched by a fruity thong. It grinned: a storm was approaching.

"Why don't you watch this?"

In a flash, the Deep Sea King snatched Stinger's spear and kicked him down the length of the street.

"Oh shit!" said Tatsumaki, surprised.

The monster threw the spear right at Stinger, who lay gasping and defenseless on the ground. Just before Tatsumaki or Genos could step in, a golden line zipped in from a building, sonic booms crackling the air. A hero in yellow could be spotted grappling with the high-velocity spear, dragging it safely off its trajectory into the ground where it drilled like a jackhammer from its centrifugal momentum.

"Stinger!" The hero cradled the target of the attack. "Stinger, are you alright?"

"Who's that?" Tatsumaki whispered to Genos.

"Lightning Max, A-Class Rank 20 Hero."

"Terrible Tornado, Demon Cyborg, that monster over there is no pushover. Stinger would never have gone down so easily," said Lightning Max with urgency. He continued to nurse Stinger.

"Sounds like we've got a fight!" Tatsumaki exclaimed to Genos. "I'll walk you through what I'd do."

"Teacher, wait. Someone else is approaching."

A large man in a sweater with a pink heart on it stepped out of an alley. A ball and chain was attached to one of his legs.

"Don't tell me… is that Puri Puri Prisoner?"

"Stinger!" he screamed in a low pitched voice. Puri Puri Prisoner turned to the Deep Sea King menacingly. "You did this?"

"And what if I did?"

"Stinger struck my fancy," the Prisoner said, to the brief angry stare of Lightning Max. "So I must avenge him now! I will start at half-power."

Puri Puri Prisoner took a battle stance, his massive muscles beginning to ripple and even expand under his tight clothing. All of a sudden, his cotton sweater exploded into soft shards.

"NO! MY BOYFRIEND'S SWEATER!" he bellowed. Tatsumaki couldn't help but reach to plug her ears. "It was even hand-woven… You'll pay for this!"

The Prisoner ran towards the Deep Sea King with tremendous speed, catching the oversized fish off guard with a spinning kick. The ball and chain connected with the King's right cheek. At the same time, the monster reached out with his own right hook to Puri Puri Prisoner's face.

"Oof!" they both groaned, falling away from each other.

"That hurt," the King began. "A little."

"Same here," the flamboyant hero responded. "A little."

In reality, Puri Puri Prisoner was feeling completely dazed. It was only through the power of manly love that he stood up. He wiped a drop of blood from his nose.

"I guess I'll have to try my secret technique then." The Prisoner said.

"Oh?"

The King watched with a slight smirk as a rainbow seemed to appear in the air around Puri Puri Prisoner. "ANGEL TRANSFORM!" shouted the hero. Somehow, Tatsumaki gained the impression that a pair of black wings sprouted from his back. The Prisoner leapt into the air like a seven-foot ballerina with springs for feet, and came crashing down in a corkscrew. The Deep Sea King reached in the air to block the attack, but the rotational torque of Puri Puri Prisoner's feet wrenched the scales off his hand. Landing back on the ground in a fighting pose, the hero stared down the monster that had taken a few steps back. Puri Puri Prisoner then went in for the kill: with a scream, the hero launched a barrage of rapid punches which the King attempted to block with his arms. Finally tiring, the Prisoner stopped the onslaught, and the Deep Sea King's yellow eyes glared at him.

"How about I show you my own secret technique?"

Before Puri Puri Prisoner could react, the monster hurtled at him with his own furious punches. Each impact left a ripple through the hero's muscles, the heat from the sheer speed burning his body's skin. With a 360 roundhouse kick, the Deep Sea King launched the hero at least a hundred feet backwards.

"P-Puri Puri Prisoner?" gasped Lightning Max.

All of a sudden, Tatsumaki felt a few drops of water drizzle onto the back of her neck. The monster noticed it too, looking into the sky at the dark, stormy clouds.

"Just in time! The rain's come."

To Tatsumaki's horror, the Deep Sea King began morphing into a massive, hunchbacked beast. His slightly rough hide turned into full-on scaly skin. Its face mutated from something previously humanoid into the gaping jaws of an ugly sea monster.

Something in the back of Tatsumaki's mind both winced and hardened, and the next few instants of her life uncontrollably flowed past her ability to reason. It was an unrecognizable hatred. She was on a canoe, with her sister, and tipping. And it was too late to reset the balance of the boat; the bottom started slipping out from underneath the water into the air, and she was helpless to do anything about it.

"Teacher?"

"Oh, uh, what?"

"Was that part of the lesson?"

Tatsumaki noticed a gargantuan pile of steel beams, concrete slaps, and pulverized asphalt, all drenched in a copious amount of sea monster blood. It looked like a magnet had pulled everything together.

"Y-yeah. Learn something?"

Genos thought.

"Yes, Teacher. However, I may need more instruction in the future."

The storm poured on.
