Woo! Thank you AsrielDreemurr05 for reminding me about Othertale. With so many Sanses that exist, I almost forget!
For now, enjoy this one!
Falling, falling, falling into the darkness she fell.
Spirals of unknown energies twirling in the distant space of this ambiguous realm, while a single blue shooting star passed her by. Thoughts raced by her mind as the shooting star did, and she began recollecting her own memories through the memories of others. She opened her eyes slowly as she saw the distant energies push further away, as her descent slowed the more awake she became.
'… This place isn't my home, but it is at the same time… something went wrong…' she thought, and then her eyes widened when she raised her hands to examine them.
Her natural black claws were showing, but there seemed to be additional white claws fused on top of each of them from her fingers.
'Is that… bone?' She thought, noticing the white claws came from the middle bone of each of her fingers.
She noticed her clothes had changed slightly with her jean jacket and skirt the only things not altered. Her under shirt was purple with a red sun on the center of it, her black leggings had purple stripes on the sides of them, and her purple boots had color splashes of blue, green, cyan, orange, and yellow. As she carefully moved her hair that was on the sides of her face not in the ponytail forward, she noticed that the natural blue tips seemed to be infused with a lighter purple tone of sun-shaped pokey dots.
'What… happened to me… I can't remember…' she thought, as she rubbed her hand nervously on her face, but then realized that two fangs were poking out from her mouth.
'Wh-What's happening? Why are both of them…?'
She became frantic as she started looking around to find some sort of mirror. Upon looking upward and downward, she realized that the concentration of darkness was more dense below where she was falling then above. As she looked upward with sadness as she felt like she was falling to her unknown doom, a flash overcome her vision as she saw two figures above her. When she increased her concentration, the two distant figures appeared again, as she saw one more clearly from the vivid colors emanating from him. With more concentration, her vision seemed to zoom in and see the figures clearly as she gasped upon recognizing one of them from her earlier scattered memories.
'Sans!' Her mind screamed out, and she tried reaching out to him with one hand.
'No… I'm still falling… I can't… I can… I WILL!'
With her teeth gritted, she raised one foot up and stepped down as a plane in the shape of a purple heart appeared under her foot as a sort of platform that halted her fall. She bent her knees down low and then sprung upward, jumping straight up like a bullet through the unknown realm as the large purple heart platform disappeared. As she drew closer to them, she could feel her ascent slow down, but she was able to break out of the unknown realm she was in and reach theirs as she stood floating for a moment in the space above their level.
She landed upon solid checkered ground, as she noticed it was broken up behind her, as if it was ripped out from where it originated. Looking up, she saw the other figure who was a sort of skeleton man in a gooey form look at her in surprise, but Sans was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh my. Another lost soul?" the gooey figure questioned as he approached her.
She stood up as the gooey figure was curious but cautious as he noticed her claws.
"Hello there. You may call me, Gaster. Who may you be, dear?" the gooey figure asked kindly.
"I'm… I'm…" she raced through her memories and those of others to find the correct one to answer with.
"My name is… Curtain," she finally replied, as she felt a sense of relief to remember her own name.
"… Curtain. You're the one who helped-" Gaster was cut off by Curtain suddenly placing her hands on the sides of her head and falling to her knees.
"Grrrr-Gah! Leave! Get out!" Curtain screamed out, seeing a dark figure appear in her memories as it seemed to use each memory as a way to hide itself while she chased them by surfing through each thought.
"This doesn't look good. What ails you, Curtain? What are you seeing?" Gaster asked, concerned and intrigued as he reached his hand towards her slowly.
Curtain's hand shot out and grabbed his, as Gaster was shocked to see fury in one eye and pain the other as she spoke in two voices,
"What is happening?! You were hiding? Get out of my head! So this is where you went? Why are you even here?! How did you get in my head?! What a fool to think they could have fought him alone. Get OUT! She's quite disturbed at the moment, but it's understandable. Wh-What? You shouldn't fear the me that you see now, Curtain. But you should fear the me that's out there. You too… Gaster, and the skeleton in the shadows. Who are you? But I'm sure you still have other things to worry about. Not sure if I can help you with that foolish child, but for now I take my rest. Wait! Hold on! I'm only a fragment, I don't have the energy to stay up long... ...Okay."
The fury that was locked in one of Curtain's eyes disappeared as the pain in the other did as well. Curtain released his hand as she covered her eyes from the irritation in them. Gaster moved a little away from her in shock and reminiscent of the calm yet dark voice that spoke to him through her.
"Who… are you?" Gaster asked, although he knew the dark voice must have gone to rest as she said.
Curtain tried to stand up to speak, but the sudden weakness in her head made her fall towards one side. However, she felt someone catch her and when she looked up, her eyes watered as she said,
"Sans… you're alive."
"… Curtain. You're actually here," Sans said, the flaming energy smoking out from his cracked skull softening as the color changed to green.
"I thought you died. I didn't sense you… nor myself… I don't really know what happened but then I saw you and jumped to you," Curtain tried to explain as she sat up on the ground while Sans stood close to make sure she didn't fall again.
"I just thought you didn't get to the underground yet. I didn't think you were… out like… me..." Sans noticed the changes on her and especially the sun-like spot on her shirt.
"… Curtain, do you happen to remember where you were in the underground… before coming to this place?" He asked, the color of the flame coming from his skull and the gash on his chest changing yellow.
"Hmmm… I remember a city of pearl, and then a hall of gold with… this… floor," Curtain said, as she placed one hand on the checkered ground.
The flame on Sans' head grew sharper as the color changed to orange along with the gash on his chest, while Curtain grew a little nervous to see his other eye also match the intense orange color.
"You went into the hall when I specifically told you to stay away, didn't you?" Sans asked, and Curtain gulped with a slight nod.
"Agh! I told you not to come in until I finished dealing with the kid! I said no matter what happened or what you heard, DON'T come in! No wonder you're even here! And I bet that spot on your shirt is probably from getting hit! What were you even thin-" Sans cut his rant immediately as the flames simmered down to blue when he noticed her tearful expression.
"I just wanted to help… you were one of the last ones underground and I… I'm sorry," Curtain said as green tears poured from her eyes.
"C-Curtain… darn it, come here," Sans said, as he reached over and hugged her comfortingly.
"I just wanted to-"
"Don't say anymore. It's okay… I'm sorry for yelling at you," Sans said, petting her head gently.
Curtain wrapped her arms around him as she let out her tears and calmed herself.
"It's not your fault. I'm not angry at you. I just… wish you didn't end up here… at least you could have had a life if you stayed there," Sans said, his color flames changing to cyan.
"… But I wouldn't be with you though," Curtain said, as she sniffled a little.
"Heh, that's sweet of you… but I'd rather you be with someone better. Someone who could have stopped that brat…" Sans said.
"… I... can see. You sort of did though. You delayed Chara, so that still gives everyone a second chance doesn't it?" Curtain said, able to see his memories in her mind.
Sans pulled back from the hug in surprise but he kept his hands still on her arms.
"Did you just… see into my mind or something?" He asked.
"… I think I just did. I saw through your eyes," she replied, surprised by what she was capable of.
"Fascinating," Gaster finally said after finally composing himself.
"Woah. That's pretty cool and scary at the same time," Sans said.
"Liiiike how I saw what you were thinking when you spoke to me?" Curtain asked with a small smirk.
"U-Uh, well what can I say? You're face is cute," Sans said, rubbing the back of his skull in embarrassment, while Gaster held his hand over his mouth with a sort of cheeky smile.
"As I recall, you said adorable and I believe you mentioned winsome," Curtain said with her smirk slightly widening.
"Okay okay! I like ya, a lot. You're important to me, ya know," Sans admitted with a slight blush of color on his cheekbones.
"I really like you too, Sans," Curtain admitted with her cheeks also blushing in colors.
Sans reached one hand towards her as he stroked her cheek softly with his hand and said,
"It looks like your monster half is showing more then normal."
"R-Really?" Curtain asked.
"Although I am uncertain of how you originally looked, I can tell there is something different. You remind me a bit of Sans, but just slightly of Chara," Gaster commented.
"What do you mean of Chara?" Sans asked, anger laced slightly in his tone, and Gaster handed Curtain a piece of glass so that she could see her reflection.
Curtain had two pearly white fangs poking from her mouth, and her hair in her ponytail had feathers that sprung upward like a peacock's tail feathers in blue, cyan, orange, yellow, green, and purple colors with the light purple pokey dots on them like her hair. One of her eyes were red with a purple ring while the other was purple with a red ring.
"… What even happened to me?" Curtain said while examining her face, especially her eyes.
"It seems you have inherited the powers of Sans and Chara judging by your appearance, connection to what seems to be a darker entity, and your connection to Sans. Although further observance would be necessary," Gaster replied.
"But how is that possible?" Sans asked.
"I don't know," Gaster replied with a smile.
"What?! What kind of reply is that?!" Sans said with a shrug as he threw his hands up.
"Well, my powers are different than before. Like even coming here, I made a platform with my feet in midair. And I could see into your memories Sans… and I think I can see others too…" Curtain said, and then she looked at her claws.
Upon noticing her claws, Sans took one of her hands and carefully observed them as Gaster stood next to him to also take a look.
"Bone…" Sans whispered noticing the bone part of her claws as he traced his own boney fingers along them.
"Does it hurt when he touches the bone?" Gaster inquired.
"Not at all, but I don't know why my claws are like that," Curtain replied, as Sans cupped her cheek in his hand.
Curtain looked at Sans curiously as he laid his forehead on hers while looking deep into her eyes. The moment Sans' eye, flame, and gash changed purple, Curtain's eyes glowed purple as the feathers sticking up from her head changed into flames of purple. Gaster observed in amazement and fascination at the reaction happening between the two, and when the purple of Sans changed to cyan, the feathers on Curtain's head changed to cyan, although her eyes still glowed purple. With each color Sans changed to, the feathers on Curtain's head changed to the same color besides her eyes that glowed consistently purple.
After glowing each color, Sans back away from her and said, "You really do share my powers. Of course, I shouldn't be surprised that you can handle determination well considering your human ha-"
The feathers on Curtain's head changed multi-colored as her eyes changed vivid red and her expression became more serious. Sans backed up a bit as Gaster also did so, while Curtain looked at her claws and said,
"… Odd. I see things differently with this power… and I feel physically stronger too."
The bones on Curtain's claws gradually changed red, as she spread her fingers out while her claws grew longer and sharper.
"How interesting… my offensive capabilities are increasing… what an excellent power to wield," Curtain said, her red eyes glowing a little brighter as her expression stood almost emotionless.
"Curtain stop!" Sans called out as his flame changed orange.
Upon hearing his voice, Curtain turned towards him as her eyes softened and returned to normal along with her claws.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you or anything. I only wanted to test it but… maybe I shouldn't use it," Curtain said, looking downward.
"… No. Don't lock that power away. Keep it close, and keep it in control. You seem to have a certain authority over it already," Gaster said.
"But that power is like the kid's. She shouldn't use something like that," Sans said.
"If our plan with her doesn't work well, we'll at least have back up in case she needs to fight fire with fire. Don't you agree?" Gaster asked with a small smile and a glint in his eyes.
Sans and Curtain looked towards one another, and Sans sighed and said, "Curtain, you probably already know what's going on and what we're planning since you saw my memories so… we're looking to connect to her so that we can reach our world to stop the kid… if things don't go well for her, maybe you'd be able to help her out, ya know? I didn't want you to be involved, but it looks like there's no choice, is there?"
Curtain nodded and replied, "Yes, I know Chara is still there. I can sense it, but I can sense others too. In other places, near and far from here… I feel like there's something preventing me from getting home to our world, but I feel like I can reach to the other… worlds though."
"What… do you mean?" Sans asked, as he and Curtain stood up.
"I feel like, since I lost connection to our world, I have to re-establish my connection to it to go back… but I don't have the power to do it as I am now… maybe if I get strong enough and understand my powers more, maybe I'll have enough power to get back to our world, and bring you two back as well," Curtain replied.
"… That's an interesting idea, but do you think it is possible?" Gaster asked.
"I connected to that 'dark entity' from earlier and I connected to Sans. But not only that, I feel like I connected to others like me too. I seem to have memories from them, so I figured maybe my power has something to do with connections. That's why I think I might be able to get back if I only knew how to use these powers I got," Curtain replied.
"… Memories," Sans said as his mind began racing.
"What is it, Sans?" Curtain asked, seeing him pacing a bit.
"… They don't remember us back home. It's as if I was never a part of their lives, but… if you could connect to memories like you do and if what you say about connecting to our world is true, maybe you'd be able to get them to remember… and that might re-establish our connection to be able to get back home," Sans said, his hand on his chin.
"That sounds like a plan. The only problem we're facing is time because Chara is starting to move about and Curtain needs time to understand her powers. This could work, but only if Curtain's powers can connect to memories and if she learns how to use them in time before Chara does worse damage," Gaster said.
"Then I need to train. I need someone to train me… One of them could…" Curtain said, looking out towards the darkness of the void.
"Who are you talking about?" Sans asked.
"… Another me. I could travel to another world and find another me to help. I saw into some of her memories. She could help me," Curtain replied.
"Another you?" Sans asked.
"Come now, Sans. You should already know what she means," Gaster said, as Sans narrowed his eyes at him.
"Then you know what I'm talking about. We should go ask for help," Curtain suggested.
"I don't know. Some of them have their own businesses to attend to, and may not be so friendly, ya know?" Sans said while rubbing the back of his neck.
"We have to at least try," Curtain said, determination shining in her eyes.
"… Heh. Alright. At least we have a plan while we wait instead of just waiting," Sans said, the flames and gash growing more vivid.
"Well Sans, I'll keep watch for Chara's movements and alert you of anything here since we're connected, especially how she is doing. Curtain, go find this other you and train to use your powers. Hopefully you'll be able to do so in time. Stay determined," Gaster said with his ghostly smile.
"… Are you sure you'll be okay alone here?" Sans asked him.
"I've been alone for a long time already. A little longer will be alright. Besides, I can just talk to you anytime to bother you," Gaster said, and Sans slumped his shoulders with an annoyed expression.
"Hehehe. Don't worry, Dr. Gaster. We'll be back as soon as possible," Curtain said with a smile and thumbs up.
Sans and Curtain held hands, and Curtain was able to gain some power from Sans to open a portal. They looked back at Gaster and nodded as he nodded back, and then they jumped through the portal while still holding hands. While watching them go through the portal, a thought crossed Gaster's mind,
'How did she know I was a doctor? Could she… I'll wait until they return.'
Yeeee! Another story down!
