Legend of the Sword Dancer: Strange Magi(c)
On the first day, one of the Maids of the Academy was surprised that Emilya was already awake. It was a common practice that the servants hired by the Academy wake the first years because they are quite new to time schedule of the Academy. But Emilya was already an early riser, and when the maid entered, she was in the middle of altering one of her skirts to become pants.
"Do you just walk into rooms this early?" Emilya asked.
"I apologize my Lady," the maid bowed. "It has been a custom for Academy Maids to wake the first years on their first week."
"It's okay." Emilya replied. "I was already used to waking up early, and no harm done."
"Thank you my Lady," the maid said. "Allow me to help you change for the morning."
With Emilya's time in Halkegina, she was still quite unused to getting dressed by others. But that was because of the complicated ways one needed to wear a formal dress. Who knew there was so many under-dresses needed to worn. But since she was only wearing the standard uniform this time, it was quite easy to change into. The brown cloak was a strange uniform requirement though. It has zero functionality, and was mostly just used to indicate ones year level, why couldn't they just find a way to indicate year levels aside from cloaks...
With the maid done helping Emilya, she was now sporting the Academy Uniform of a white long sleeved blouse, black pleated skirt, and a pair of thigh-high stockings and shoes. She saw Karin wait for her in the hallway, she was dressed the same way. And if both were next to each other, it would look like they were twins. The only way the two were identifiable was their hair style, with Karin waving hers in a pony tail and Emilya with her hair down.
They were first brought to the Dining Area, were both sat with the other Noble Children for their breakfast before proceeding to their first class. First year classes were basics on each elemental magic. Each class were divided into theory and practical for the first years. Theory was somewhat easy to understand, since it was almost similar to the Elemental Alignment of Mages from his previous world. Practical, was not so much...
Her Fire Spells sputtered out of existence...
Her Water Spells can only conjure a small amount...
Her Wind Spells are barely noticeable...
Her Earth Spells are the only thing that worked...
She recalled her Tutor, Rex Lapis, who once told her; "Metal is just a piece of Earth that was purified and refined, if a sword is made of Metal, that means it was made of Earth at one point. Since Metal come naturally to you, that means you are stubborn enough to will Metal to form a shape. If we lessen that stubbornness, maybe you can control the Earth better."
During that time of their practicals, Karin always kept her eyes on Emilya. And remembered her sister never did explain her "Unique Magic" to her. She wanted to ask her during the lunch break they had, but the other Noble Children began to introduce themselves. Karin noticed Emilya trying to sneak herself out, and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. When Emilya turned around, she was met with her sister's smiling face that hid a sinister outcome if she leaves.
"Why don't you introduce yourself as well sister?" Karin smiled.
Later that night, as Emilya prepares for the evening. Karin knocked on her door, and said she wanted to talk. Emilya opened the door and met her sister who was still dressed in her uniform. Karin entered the room, and when Emilya closed the door, she immediately went straight to the point.
"When we were in the battlefield," Karin said. "You said that your magic is different, and will show me what that meant."
Never wanting to go back against her words, Emilya obliged and held out her hand.
[Trace On]
Light formed on her hand and began to take shape familiar to Karin. When the spell ended, on Emilya's hand was Karin's Practice Swordwand. But she knew that the swordwand was hidden in a small box in her room in the Academy, and was impossible for her sister to get it.
"It's not [Summoning Magic] is it?" Karin asked when Emilya offered the swordwand. "Only I know where I hid my swordwand."
"Close, but different," Emilya explained. "I can create copies of any weapon I was able to see, it is because of my Unique Elemental Alignment."
"It can't be far from [Earth] right?" Karin asked, inspecting the swordwand. "Metal can be transmuted from Earth after all."
"Cast a spell using it." Emilya said.
"This isn't a focus," Karin replied. "A focus needs regents that helps the caster use magic properly, and not just a simple transmutation copy. You know that sister, that is why wand-makers are forbidden to use conjured materials as regents, it could mess up the caster's spells."
"Just do it."
[Gust]
With no other choice but to comply, Karin cast the simplest Wind Spell she knew, and to her surprise, the swordwand on her hand did act as a focus. After she cast the spell, the swordwand broke apart into small motes of light.
"But that's impossible," Karin thought. "There is no way-"
"Sister," Karin then said. "I saw you perform Earth Spells during your time under tutelage. I saw you use [Transmutation], so tell me, how is this one spell different?"
"Because only I can use it," Emilya explained. "The copies I create carry the properties of the original, but will always be hollow inside, making them imperfect."
"Can you do other things?" Karin asked. "Like Armor? Dresses? Food?"
"No," Emilya answered. "Only weapons."
"Weapons?" Karin asked. "How is this related to your Alignment? What is your Alignment?"
"Sword."
Karin could only blink when Emilya told her of her Elemental Alignment.
"How does one get Sword for an Elemental Alignment?" she thought.
The ride from Tarbes was quite an awkward one, and long since it took a few days. Inside the Carriage was Albedo, Maria, and the Lord of Tarbes. The lone woman was quiet while Albedo and the Lord of Tarbes talked about what the Foreign Mage's, Maria's father, agreement with the Lord. Arthur flew before them to announce their arrival to the court.
While Maria was dressed presentably, her clothes were still noticeably for commoners when standing near the Lord of Tarbes and Albedo. Unease was visible on her features as they approached the court room. It was a surprise for both the Lord of Tarbes and Maria that most of Tristain's Lords, Cardinal and King are present.
"The Trial for Tarbes begins," one of the Lords announced. "To be followed by the final hearing for the Griffin Commander Giffith's Judgment."
"Sir Marcillac, Sir Albedo, the court will now hear what transpired." another said.
Arthur stepped forward and bowed to the gathered Nobility, and began to recall what happened in Tarbes.
"Your Majesty," Arthur said. "Cardinal Sergio, and Lords of Tristain, Sir Albedo and I were able to confirm the existence of the "Dragon's Rainment" in Tarbes. However, I have decided not to retrieve it."
"The reason you have decided not to retrieve an Artifact?" Arthur's father, Lord Marcillac, asked.
"It is because it already belonged to someone." Arthur explained. "Which was why I asked for a council meeting, but was unaware that we would be called on the day the Sir Griffith would be put on trial."
"It was the earliest day," Lord Marcillac answered. "We have agreed to have to trials today rather than have two separate ones at different dates."
The gathered Lords eyes were focused on the new arrivals, The Lord of Tarbes, Albedo and Maria.
"Which is why the Lord of Tarbes is here?" Cardinal Sergio asked. "For this "Dragon's Rainment" belongs to his family?"
"Quite the opposite Your Excellency," Arthur corrected, before gesturing at Maria.
"The commoner?"
"Impossible, no commoner should be allowed to have such in their belongings."
"What blasphemy is this?"
"I will have order!" King Phillip called. "Lord of Tarbes, I would request you to explain, as this is under your jurisdiction."
The Lord of Tarbes stepped forward and looked around.
"Yeas ago," the Lord of Tarbes began. "I saw a strange dragon fall from the skies, and landed near Tarbes. I quickly gathered my men, and armed myself as we went to investigate. Where the dragon landed, I saw a wounded man wearing strange clothing, he spoke in a language unknown to me and my men before collapsing. Fearing for a possible invasion, I cast a [Levitation] spell and hid the "Dragon's Rainment" in a small cave, before having the man treated in Tarbes."
He once more looked around to see if he would be questioned, but no one did.
"When the man woke up," he continued. "He attacked one of my maids, and I had to restrain him with a [Levitation], he then dropped the maid and pointed his finger at me. While floating, he cast wandless magic and fired a lightning spell at me. I was unable to dodge and got hit, dropping him from floating. Thankfully, the scream of the maid was able to catch the attention of my guards and they were able to restrain the man."
"Wandless Magic?"
"Was he an elf in disguise?"
"Order!" King Phillip once more called out. "Continue."
"Of course," the Lord bowed. "When we restrained the man, I cast a translation spell upon him while unconscious, there I learned his name "Sasaki Takeo", that he was called a "Pilot" and asked where he was, and who was winning a war. I told him that there was no war, and he immediately demanded to speak with my superior. I told him I am the Lord of Tarbes, after that he began asking questions about where he is and where his "Dogfighter" was."
Glancing towards King Phillip, the Lord then finished his tale. "I answered his questions, and in return he answered mine, I asked about the "lightning spell", but he refused to tell, he said something about "not trusting Mages from the West", from there I concluded that he must be from beyond the desert, and that people from his continent must have known of Halkegina. I offered him a small piece of land and a few servants, along with informing the capital of his precense, but he refused. His time in Tarbes was mostly doing odd jobs, until he married a farmer's daughter and had a single child. Before he passed, he offered me a sum of gold to have the "Dragon's Rainment" be placed in a temple of his design and then be burried there when he passes. I asked where he had acquired the gold, he just told me he sold his sword to a blue haired noble."
Albedo opened his sketchpad and offered the page to Cardinal Sergio, who then showed it to King Phillip. The sketchpad had a drawing of the temple, the grave and it's inscriptions, and the "Dragon's Rainment"."
"I was unable to translate the runes your Majesty, your Excellency," Albedo apologized. "However, I was able to study the "Dragon's Rainment", and concluded that it must have been armor of sorts. With metalworking even better than the Armor of Sir Marcillac's Familliar."
Cardinal Sergio and King Phillip studied the "Runes" and the drawings.
"The commoner girl with you," Cardinal Sergio then said, looking at Maria. "She is his daughter."
"Yes, your Excellency," the Lord of Tarbes confirmed. "She is."
"Commoner," Cardinal Sergio called. "Did you know of your father's origin?"
"Y-yes."
"Yet you refuse to acknowledge the Blessing of Magic?" Cardinal Sergio asked.
"I made a promise to my father not gather attention to my family." Maria answered.
"A Lightning Mage is rare," Cardinal Sergio said. "But a Lightning Mage who could cast wandless is more so, refusing Lord Brimir's blessing is heresy. Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
"None."
The gathered crowd began to talk to themselves, while King Phillip, Cardinal Sergio and the King's Advisors are gathered together.
"A punishment will be in order." King Phillip said. "To the Lord of Tarbes, the a sum of gold equal to the amount the foreign mage offered. And to the daughter of the foreign mage, though you are a child of a commoner and foreigner, you still a mage therefore, should one of your descendants be blessed by Lord Brimir, they are to be integrated to Nobility. Court dismissed, after a break, the trial for the Traitors will begin."
In the Void between Dimensions, Zelretch watched the Ultimate One. When Emilya and Arthur used Rhongomyniad of all things to destroy the Fragment, the Ultimate One did not stir, meaning that Emilya was successful in erasing the Fragment.
"One down," Zelretch said. "One more to go."
"Are you Dormammu?" a voice asked.
"I beg your pardon?" Zelretch asked.
"I've come to bargain," a man wearing a blue robe and red cape said.
"You have the wrong being," Zelretch said. "My name is Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, the Kaleidoscope, and you are?"
"Dr. Stephen Strange," the man said. "Sorcerer Supreme."
"You are currently in the Void Between Dimensions Sorcerer," Zelretch said. "The one you seek is in the Dark Dimension, think of this place like you are still in the crossroads of sorts."
POST CHAPTER NOTES:
To answer/reply to some recent reviews:
1. Okay, I may have to re-point something out. So once again, here is a quick summary of what transpired in Heaven's Failure, for those New to Fate Series (or those curious as to why I keep thinking that Emilya is a "Nerfed Heaven's Feel Shirou". Although Nerfed might not be the best term, Re-Balanced maybe?):
So when the HGW Ended, Illya used the Dress of Heaven, allowing her to use True Magic Heaven's Feel. But Illya also wanted to save Shirou because his Body is Fucked Up due to overuse of Archer's Arm (Sword's are literally bursting out his skin at this point.) But because Shirou's Body is Fucked Up, she used her body to house Shirou's Soul. But due to the Unique Nature of Shirou's Soul thanks to the UBW, her body needed to be altered (It's not just slapping Shirou's Soul into her Body and calling it a day.).
And by my own conclusion from that alteration, this means that Emilya's body is her own unique self (Though it still housed Shirou's Soul & Memories.), and free from what-ever the Einsberns modifications did to Illya (The Reason why she only has 1 year to live, and never aged).
Author's Ramblings:
With that summary done, you can always read the very limited number of chapters on Heaven's Failure online, it's quite fun and lighthearted, a direct contrast to what would be the Ending of Heaven's Feel. You'd be surprised that there is a Female Avenger (Angry Mango) with Bazzette as her Master, Servant interactions with Emilya, because for some reason most of the Servants came back.
Also, I would like to apologize for any errors on the Court Trial, I have zero background in such, and was mostly based on some works where the author made a court trial.
