Chapter Two: Your name Omee
-Bored and Penniless,
were the only words Subaru could describe himself as, it had been a day since Subaru had been transported to this new fantasy world, so far most of his expectations had been let down. At the very least he was grateful that he had Halibel by his side, but even Subaru doubted if the beast-man was genuine, something felt off about the guy. Subaru dismissed any thoughts that would provoke him and tried to focus on the more indulging aspects of this new world
From what Subaru learned from Halibel, the city he was in, Okusnai, was the second furthermost eastern city in Kagaragi. The city itself was revered as the "Scholar Capital" of the west, being populated with students and teachers from all over the world
"What was the backstory of this place again?" Subaru spoke out to himself in his empty room
"Ah that's it" The raven-haired youth recalled Halibel's story
"Ah, intrested about the city are ya? Well the city Okusnai had been nothing more then a study camp dedicated to the research of a certain sword, said sword is at the center of the city engraved into the ground. It is said that around four hundred years ago, before the great calamity, the first Sword Saint himself Reid Astrea placed the blade there, no idea why though. Wither you believe it or not, I think it was one of Hoshin's students that ended up obsessing over the blade and bulit up the whole city around the thing. Since then, place's become the very center for study and theory"
At the story Subaru's head was full of dreams, a four-hundred year blade engraved in stone, well that could only mean one thing, "Obviously the swords waiting for a worthy traveler to come along and pick it up!"
Halibel smiled at the boys enthusiasm, "Believe what ya want kid, but not even Reid's own descendants could pick up the thing, believe me I've seen many try"
"Ah, but you've never seen me try!" Subaru raised his finger with a determined gaze
Now back in the present Subaru lay on the ground starring off into his wall, he was alone, Halibel had gone out to work, and there were no relatives of Halibel at his current location
"then its settled I guess" getting up from his position, nobody would hear the oddly dressed boy's declaration but he'd give it anyways
"Im gonna go an pull that sword out!"
"You're going to what?" A bored green covered merchant asked blankly with a slight hint of concern for the black-haired stranger in front of him
"You heard me, Im gonna pull out the great sword at the center of this city!" The eccentric black-haired youth responded in confidence
"What makes you think you could actually pull it out?" Otto looked to the boy, its not that he wanted to crush the guy's spirits as much as he was more of a realist
"You'll just have to wait and see" The boy laughed as he brought his thumb to his heart
"So is that why you're here again, to get me to come and watch you?" Otto was in disbelief, not only did this guy approach him out of nowhere, but he's treating him as if he was the black-haired boys long lost brother, what a cook
"That's right, im gonna need someone to spread the beginning of my awesome tale" The boy said in a tone of pride
"You're quite the dreamer, especially considering that you expect me to spread some tale of a boy that's name I don't even know" Otto kept staring at the guy blankly
"Ah that's right, I totally forgot!" The eccentric boy put his hands to his head, motioning to his own embarrassment
But quickly the boy regained his composure and begun to strike one of the most bizzare poses Otto has ever laid eyes upon, "My name is Natsuki Subaru, not only am I going to be a hero, but I'll be the one to pull out a four-hundred year old sword!"
"Ri-right" Otto looked at Subaru gaining second hand embarrassment while in the process
"Now c'mon Otto, we don't got a minute to waste!" Subaru yelled out, his eyes filled with determination, once again the boy was on the run
"Natsuki-Kun, just wait for a moment" The now overwhelmed Otto reached out his hand to no avail, he would then proceed in pursuit of the boy, this guy was a real pain but he'd gained the green merchants interests
"it appears that we've arrived!" Subaru announced smugly, putting his hand to his chin
"Natsuki-Kun, don't just run off on me like that, I had to-" The merchant stumbled forward a bit trying to catch his breath, "Run" another huff, "at least three kilometers" one last huff
"Don't be such a baby Otto-san, were here now so I don't want to hear any complaining!" The boy dismissed Otto with a makeshift stern tone, clearly he was joking
"right" Otto looked back to Subaru now regaining his composure
Subaru turned his head to now face the sword, it was around 15 meters from where they stood currently (45 feet) and was easily approachable but not one civilian dare touch the sacred sword of Okusnai, but that didn't deter Subaru one bit. The black-haired boy knew how these things worked, he'd take the sword and become the over powered protagonist of the story he was meant to be
The sword its self was surrounded by grey and navy-blue stone, the only part visible being the black handle, it looked out of the place compared to the rest of the city, but totally awesome
Now slowly walking up to the sword, Subaru could feel the glances directed towards him,
"what a fool, to even approach the sword in the first place"
"Such a buffoon does he not know of the sacred law?"
"Kid's these days, I swear-"
But to the surprise of the entire crowd, and to Otto's own disarray, Natsuki Subaru, the self-proclaimed hero had pulled the sacred sword of Okusnai straight out of the ground, without effort, not a tad bit of concern the boy had done just as he said he would
"WHAT THE FUCK NATSUKI SAN!" The silver-haired merchant was in both awe and shock, this guy?! Just who the hell was he?!
Subaru gave Otto a cocky smile but as if on queue a bright blinding purple light engulfed all surroundings. As the light began to fade Otto looked to the place of his new acquaintance only to be met with thin air, Natsuki Subaru had disappeared, and along with him a four-hundred year old sword that even the likes of this world's finest could not help but hope to obtain
"This guys a fuckin enigma!" Otto kicked dirt to the previous position of the supposed hero, he was the only one to speak as all by-passers had been left speechless
"What?" The amethyst haired merchant looked to her employee blankly
"I swear that's what happened Ms. Hoshin, the boy just came out of nowhere and pulled the damn thing out of the ground as if it was the most common thing in the world!" The make-shift spy informed his boss, concerned that she wouldn't believe him. Said spy was a small demi-human dressed in regular clothing, he was partially beast man and had canine ears
"What..?" The Merchant dressed in white repeated her confused question
"Lady Anastasia, I swear I saw I with my two own eyes!" Now almost pleading, the demi-human spy couldn't keep his composure
"You cant be serious right? Not even the former sword saint of Lugnica could…" For the first time in what felt like years Anastasia Hoshin was at a loss
"It happened, ask anyone at the square, my eye's didn't deceive me!" The demi-human tried to bring legitimacy to his report
"Anyone in the square…" The merchant tried to put her thoughts together, she was still far to focused on if it was even possible yet alone the fact that someone had done it, "That's it!" The white robed CEO snapped her left fingers then pointed them upwards
"Soyah, I want you to learn as much as possible about that boy, any connections, previous affiliates, an accurate description, about everyone he's interacted with in the past few days" The Merchant queen had made her decision, she would learn about the boy who pulled out a sword left by a god as if it was as causal daily occurrence. Anastasia could only imagine what raw strength the boy had of owned in order to have done such a thing, it frightened her to an extent but when she saw opportunity, she would capitalize, it was in her nature after all
Soya, the demi-human spy nodded in conformation to his bosses request, he himself had taken interest and would do his best
Now dismissing her employee Anastasia was left by herself to stare out to the Kagaragi sunset
"Just who in the world could do such a thing?"
"Wake up"
"huh?" Subaru gained consciousness, the boy took no time in realizing where he was, his room
"Ah damn it all, was that a dream!" Subaru sighed, "It was such a good one two-" The boy was interrupted
"This is no dream, everything is very much real Omee" The voice was crude but rather frank
Subaru turned his head upwards to look to the speaker of the voice, only to stumble in awe, "Another awesome looking guy?!"
"Flattering, but that's not the way to win my praise Omee" The speaker quickly retorted
Subaru looked once more now getting a better view of the man, he was tall, with a lengthy body but muscular frame. The man had long red fiery hair, and sky blue eyes. As for his clothing what first stood out was his eye patch, but Subaru's attention had been completely shifted to the badass red kimono the man was wearing
"So cool…" Subaru let out in awe
The red head gave Subaru a smile "You're praises are great, but that's not how you'll get to me Omee"
Subaru spontaneously remembered just what he'd done. the last thing he could recall was grabbing the sword out of the stone followed by a blinding light, but past that he couldn't recall a thing, "Wait so just why are you in my room? And what's with the Omee thing?"
The buff red-head let out a hardy laugh before looking back to Subaru, "Well this isn't you're 'room' Omee, but rather you're od. As for my speech, Omee's just gonna have to get use to it, this is how I talk"
"Rig-right" Subaru stared confused
The red head only gave off a cocky smirk
"But if you don't mind me asking… Whats an Od?"
"Wait is Omee serious?" The red head now looked back to the boy with a slightly concerned look
"I haven't a clue" Subaru folded his arms
"Ughhh" The red head put his hand to his forehead, "Not only is Omee practically useless, but stupid too!"
"H-HEY, IM NOT STUPID I JUST LACK EXPIRENCE", (nice going Subaru, that sounded really cool)
The red head looked back at Subaru, pausing for a second, then let out a defeated sigh
"I guess Omee is right.. But in saying that, that's not an excuse for Omee" The red themed man retorted
"Excuse?" Subaru was confused again
"Well of course, if Omee wants my help, Omee better not have any excuses!" The red-head now smiling
"You're help…" Subaru drifted off into thought, the man by Subaru's bedside was clearly annoyed by said drift
Subaru came to his best conclusion
"WHICH MEANS THAT YOU'RE?!"
"That's right Omee, I am the guy that blessed this sword! Ried Astrea" The red head pointed his thumb to his chest and proclaimed proudly
"No freaking way" Subaru exclaimed in awe
"But in saying that, Omee must first pass my trail if Omee wishes to be strong" Reid rose his finger with a matter of fact tone
"Of course, Im prepared for anything! Even if it means fighting a giant Scorpio in the dessert I'll do it!" The raven-haired boy blurted out, not realizing the implications of his wording
But the red-head could only shake his hand at the boys enthusiasm, "Omee won't have to do anything like proving his strength, after all Omee's already weak so he'd never pass that type of thing without my help"
"Oh c'mon Im sure im capable of doing something!" Subaru cried out in reply
"The only thing Omee is capable of doing is dying" Reid proceeded to snort, Subaru wouldn't come to understand the joke till much later
"Hey c'mon-" Subaru about to go off on a rant was swiftly interrupted once more
"Omee, we don't have a lot of time, could you just take the damn trial already" The red head was beginning to loose his patience, the last thing Subaru wanted to do was make Reid angry
"Al-alright, so what's this whole trial about then?" Subaru asked now with a determined look in his eyes
"A name Omee" Reid leaned in closer, pointing his finger to Subaru's chest
"A name?" The confused black-haired youth was at a loss once more
