Legend of the Sword Dancer: New Horizon
A letter was placed before his desk by Severus. It was already opened, and had marks where it was scrunched, probably by the person after reading its content.
"Is that letter addressed to me?" Arthur asked.
"No," Severus replied. "My sister wrote me a letter detailing the events of this year's summoning ceremony."
"I see," Arthur said. "Any particular person of interest?"
"There are a few who stood out," Severus answered. "Karin de Mailliart summoned a young Manticore, given that her familiar is such I am not surprised if she would one day lead a group of her own."
"She sill has a long way to go," Arthur said. "Hopefully, her time with us will instill some form of leadership into her."
"Jean Colbert, summoned a Fire-Salamander," Severus continued."He has plans to join the ranks of Tristains Knights, but is yet to decide who to join."
"He still has two years to decide then."
Severus mentioned others, some familairs are as common as they come. Others were on the strange side, for even if Arthur was long born into this world, the strange beasts summoned would often make him wonder if they are native to this world, or also summoned from another.
"And finally," Severus finished. "Your fiance, Emilya de l'acier de Mailliart, summoned a human girl."
Arthur stopped what he was doing and looked at Severus, silently asking if he misread something from the letter.
"Yes, Sir Marcillac," Severus sighed. "She summoned a human, from what my sister has said, the girl she summoned is possibly a noble since she was summoned wearing armor, which disappeared, and was suddenly changed into a uniform of sorts."
Emilya summoned a "Girl in Armor", a Heroic Spirit? Arthur quickly ran through the possibilities on who Emilya summoned. His thoughts landed to two who it could have been, a girl wielding a lance and shield, The Maiden Wolf Gareth, or worse, a girl wielding a blood red sword, the Knight of Treachery, Mordred.
"But that is assuming only if her ties to me affected the ritual," Arthur thought. There was also the possibility of other heroes, but if Severus's sister identified it as "armor" meant that the armor the Heroic Spirit wore was of European Origin, or somewhere close.
He then realized that Serverus was still standing there, waiting for his thoughts on the matter.
"Is she-"
"No she is not," Arthur interrupted, knowing what the question would be.
"How can you be sure?" Severus asked. "For all we know she is Albion's Void Mage, their mother is a descendant of Albion."
The Knights of Round stumbled upon, and accidentally learned the truth about the Element of [Void]. The Founder's Prayer Book, that was always in the hands of the Royal Family, was once visited by the current Pope along with the Cardinal. Princess Marianne, tasked to hand over the book, stumbled, and almost dropped it, was it not for the quick assistance of a Knights of Round who caught her, and the book. When the book was inspected, there was a fading writing on a page.
"Our group are the only ones who know of the truth behind Void Magic," Arthur said. "A secret we all swore to keep until our end, we cannot blindly point at a person and say that they are Void Mages. Cardinal Sergio was furious when we claimed that we witnessed a [Void Spell] and told us never to talk about it again, no doubt Romalia and the Church are hiding more secrets."
"The fact that she summoned a Human would prove otherwise Sir Marcillac." Severus countered. "Remember, we know another person who did the same."
"Her Element is not [Void] Severus," Arthur insisted. "I know because I have seen her "magic" multiple times up close."
"But what if she just inherited it recently?" Severus asked. "Has that thought crossed your mind Sir Marcillac?"
Arthur blinked and realized what Severus was trying to convey. The Six Nobles of the Knights of Round were able to witness a Void Mage and learned of its secrets. One of which was the Element of [Void] can be inherited.
"She could not have inherited it," Arthur thought. "Emilya is not a native of this world..."
Mashu was taken by Emilya and Karin to see the Capital. Today there were no classes, and Karin decided to find a good saddle for her Familiar, and a few treats. The Academy always had prepared for any Large Familiar, and always stocked on meat and other food. Today she could have tried to ride her Manticore to get to the capital, but the saddle the Academy provided became a chew toy overnight. Instead she had it fly above them, and she would occasionally peek out to see if it was still with them.
"Maybe I should try training my familiar?" Karin asked. "I can't spend my allowance for a saddle every week."
"Or just remember to remove the saddle after every ride." Emilya said.
"That was one time." Karin groaned.
It was one time, but it happened in front of Emilya. Karin dismounted her Manticore but forgot to remove the saddle. Somehow, it was quite loosened after the ride around, and the Manticore got to play with it.
This trip was for Emilya to get Mashu some other clothes, she didn't like the idea that Mashu was going to wear only one set of clothes. Her practicality saved enough to get Mashu an extra set of clothes, since her meals are already part of her school allowance under her status as a familiar. When they arrived in the capital, both agreed to meet up at the clothing store since Karin was only getting a saddle.
Emilya then had Mashu pick what she liked. She would help occasionally, but still left the decision on Mashu if she wanted it or not.
"Thank you Senpai," Mashu said as she carried the clothes they bought. Emilya helped her pick a night gown her size, and a few change of clothes since the Academy Maids would often wash wash clothes on a daily basis. They saw Karin wave at them, she was once again mounting her familiar, and they began to walk towards them. Suddenly, her instincts flared up, she grabbed Mashu and ducked. A [Fireball] flew over them and hit a cabbage merchant's stall.
"My cabbages!"
Emilya looked to where the spell came from, and saw a hooded person run on the rooftops. Karin and her Manticore already gave chase, flying behind the figure. Mashu materialized her armor and shield as both followed Karin from the ground.
"Can you keep up if we use the rooftop?" Emilya asked Mashu.
"I think I can Emilya-senpai." Mashu replied.
Emilya nodded and reinforced her body. Both of them jumped up to the rooftops as people began running away in panic. Soldiers were scattered and began to protect the people. Mashu blocked a [Fireball] cast in front of them as they landed. Two more hooded figures were blocking their path.
"Karin!" Emilya called out.
But Karin was too far to hear, her target leading her away from the town.
"Mashu we need to follow her." Emilya said. She traced Kanshou and Bakuya, before engaging the other two. A fight broke off at the rooftops, Mashu shielding any stray spells from hitting any nearby civilian, while Emilya fought close quarters against the spell casters.
"Emilya-san!" Mashu called out. "Miss Karin is too far!"
Emilya looked to the direction Karin went. It would take a while to catch up to her if she goes further. If this fight continues...
"They're distracting us!" Emilya thought.
She should have realized sooner. All the enemy did was cast spells and keep their distance while purposely trying to target civilians.
"Mashu," Emilya called out.
"Yes Senpai?"
"Keep the civilians safe."
Emilya dismissed the swords she was using and raised her hand. Mashu immediately jumped down and placed herself between Emilya and the running civilians. She slammed her shield on the ground.
"Lord Chaldeas should be enough." Mashu thought as a barrier formed.
[Trace On]
Swords appeared floating on air, all aimed towards the hooded figures. Emilya dropped her hand, and the swords flew towards the enemy. A literal rain of swords came down, it was only thanks to Mashu's Shield that the civilians were safe. When the rain died down, she saw the rooftops littered with swords, and one of the hooded people were impaled by some. Their cloaks were torn, revealing the pair as a man and woman, the man clearly shielded the other from her attack.
She began to walk towards the pair until a third hooded person came in and grabbed the two. He cast what appeared to be a [Fireball], but instead created an explosion launching dust and debris into the air. A gust of air blasted the dust away, turning around, Emilya saw Arthur riding his dragon behind her.
"Shirou," Arthur said. "What-"
"No time," Emilya interrupted. "Let's grab Mashu and follow Karin!"
"Who?"
The moment Arthur saw the armor, his mind immediately connected the dots on who Emilya's Servant was. But it wasn't right, the Galahad he knew was a young man, unless Lancelot pulled the same stunt he did during his life as Arthuria, when she ascended the throne. He would ask for questions later, the way Emilya insisted that they follow Karin meant that whoever was behind that attack were after her.
"Severus, I'll leave you in charge, once your done send a group to follow me." Arthur commanded before taking off with Emilya and Mashu.
Arthur's dragon was fast, but they were unable to find Karin. Currently, they were above a forest, it wasn't a dense forest, but had enough trees to hide under. Karin's flight direction lead them to this area, but was not seen flying.
"Unless she landed." Emilya and Arthur thought.
Emilya reinforced her eyes. Her vision became sharper, she scanned the trees looking for a sign of a rough landing. She spotted a few broken branches, and immediately told Arthur. Mashu materialized her shield, Arthur drew his wandsword, while Emilya traced Kanshou and Bakuya. They jumped down from the dragon, and began scanning the area. They saw Karin and her Manticore inside a net, next to her was a hooded person keeping an eye on their catch.
"An enchanted net," Arthur whispered. "These people must be fallen nobles turned poachers, a manticore is quite rare even with the abundance of dragons."
"A manticore is costly?" Emilya asked.
"Manticore Venom." Arthur answered. "Deadly in combat, and rarely gets a cure. We must hurry, if this person is with those who attacked the capital, we can save your sister before his group arrives."
The Mashu and Emilya nodded and slowly crept behind the trees to get close. Once near, Arthur gave a signal, Emilya accidentaly snapped a branch alerting the hooded person. The person stood up and went to investigate the source of the sound, only to get a shield to the face thus knocking the person out.
"I can't believe that worked." Emilya noted as she approached Karin. Arthur noticed a length of rope tied to the person's belt and proceed to tie the person to a tree.
"The net is enchanted." Karin said. "Even my sword cannot cut it."
Emilya held on the rope to study the enchantment. The enchantment cast on it is similar to [Reinforcement], she then tried reinforcing it again, causing an over-reinforcement, and the net began to snap apart.
"Thanks." Karin said, before she inspected her familair before noticing the tied up person shifting.
"She's awake." Karin pointed out.
"She?"
"Yes, she tried to talk to me." Karin explained. "I never answered back."
Arthur pulled Emilya and Mashu an earshot away from Karin.
"Shirou I need to know what happened at the plaza." Arthur asked.
Emilya explained of the events that transpired, that she and Karin were only in town to buy a set of clothes and a new saddle before the attack. He then turned to Mashu.
"Are you perhaps another version of Galahad?" Arthur asked her.
"You know of Sir Galahad?" Mashu asked back.
Arthur nodded. "My current name is Arthur de Marcillac, formerly known as Arthuria Pendragon, the King of Knights."
Mashu looked up to the man, and another image superimposed his form, a girl wearing a blue dress beneath armor. Mashu then introduced herself properly.
"My name is Matthew Kyrielight," Mashu bowed. "Demi-Servant to Sir Galahad of the Knights of Round."
While the three were talking, they didn't notice Karin approaching the tied up person. She then walked towards her and placed her hand on the hood. She pulled it down only to back away in fear. Emilya noticed her fall down and immediately went between Karin and the person tied up.
Karin's hand pointed at the person, and Emilya's gaze followed. She saw what was indeed a girl that looked around her age with long blonde hair. Then she noticed that her ears were the same as Caster Medea's.
"ELF!" Karin shouted.
A portal opened in the Void, and in stepped Rin with a box the size of a cake on her hands.
"Master if you were to have something delivered to you please don't address it to my dorm." Rin said as she offered the box to Zelretch.
Zelretch carefully took the box from his apprentice and carefully studied it. The box had a "This Side Up" written on the sides and beneath was an acronym.
A.C.M.E.
He gave it back to Rin saying that as his apprentice she must open it. Rin sighed and opened the box. She closed her eyes as the sound of a spring echoed as a Jack-in-the-Box like figure popped out. Then the sound of a very passionate kiss followed. When she opened her eyes, she saw an image that would be the best blackmail material there is.
A humanoid rabbit dressed in drag kissing a surprised Zelretch.
POST CHAPTER NOTES:
To answer/reply to some recent reviews:
1. About the commoner issue regarding Saito in Canon, looking at his appearance in the Anime, why was he immediately labelled a commoner? Was it the clothing style? Or the hair color? While I was quite young(2007 according to Wikipedia) when the Anime was airing, and I only manage to watch the weekend recap back then(it was aired on TV.), and I never paid attention to details until I re-watched the whole thing.
Assuming that Saito is a teenager with a personal laptop born in Japan around 1990 (He's a teenager by 2000's...), doesn't that make his family quite wealthy for that time period? Because based on my own background, I never held a phone(or a laptop) until 2009, that phone was a hand me down from my father.
2. Alcides is a good parallel to Illya and Heracles, but Alcides is too OP as a Heroic Spirit even without God Hand, not to mention being Avenger and Archer Dual Class.
3. While I mixed a few other names from other media into this FanFic, this is still FoZ x F/SN Heaven's Failure. The Zelretch meeting other World Travelers are mostly for fun, with a bit of plot related stuff.
