Author's Note: This is the first Avengers fanfic that I've written. Of course, I had to go down the route of the classic field trip plotline. I'm obsessed with them, so if anyone has any interesting ones please do refer them my way, please! This story has been on my phone forever - literally. I've been constantly writing it off and on and only just now decided to release it. I'm already on Chapter 10 of the story. Some things still need to be fine-tuned but I hope you all enjoy it.

Warning: AU of the movie series. I'm going based on the movies and not the comics, sorry! For the most part, I will say though that this story roughly takes place between Captain America: Civil Wars and Doctor Strange. However, I will admit that there may be some mention of things that hadn't taken place in the movies but will occur here.

P.S. I do not have a Beta so I apologize in advance if some of my writing is off. Thank you!

Disclaimer: I do not own Avengers. I do not own Spider-Man. I do not own Marvel, Sony, or any other characters associated with either franchise.

The Unofficial Avenger's Field Trip Mission

Chapter 1

"Bye Happy!" Peter waves to the man as he drops him off at his apartment building after his visit with Mr. Stark. He fixes his book bag on his shoulders and heads into the apartment building that he and Aunt May reside in.

As Peter climbs the stairs to head towards their apartment, he can't help but feel giddy after his visit with Mr. Stark. It was always fun getting to work on Mr. Stark's Iron Man suit together. He couldn't help but start to see Mr. Stark as a father figure that he could turn to when needed. As Peter reaches their floor, he could feel the hair on his neck stand up. He glances around him, not seeing anything out of the ordinary that would put him on alert.

Further down the hall, he could hear one of their neighbor's dogs barking. Other than that, everything around him was normal. He reaches their front door and inserts his key, turning it to unlock the door. As he begins to turn the doorknob into his and May's apartment. His hair raises on his arms. His spider senses make itself even more known.

Warning bells kept going off as he hazardously darted his eyes back and forth around their darkened apartment. His neighbor's dog continues to bark further down from their apartment. He jumps at the sound. A bit alarmed and a bit taken back, unsure of what could be causing his senses to flare up. There was no one around.

He goes to close the door, after cautiously entering the pitch-black apartment. Aunt May wasn't home yet. He tries to reason with himself yet his senses just keep going off. He finally shuts the door behind him. It was then he heard it. Click. His senses start to go into overdrive.

Peter jumps into a defensive stance as the lights of their apartment flare on.

"It seems you weren't expecting me, Mr. Parker." There sitting down on their sofa in the living room pulling down the lamp's light switch was Director Fury himself.

He rushes to fix his stance, he could feel his face slowly turning red from embarrassment. He never expected to see the higher command of the Avengers sitting on HIS living room couch. "D-Directory Fury sir. I..." He stops talking as Director Fury raises his hand to interrupt.

"Don't. You and I both know I'm here on business. I don't need to know why you're acting like a frightened cat seeing some random dog." Peter gulps.

"Director Fury, sir, I mean—I just came from school," Peter drops his book bag on the ground to prove his point. "There were talks about a field trip in my science class. We would be going to Mr. Stark's building—wait. My Aunt May didn't see you, did she?! How long have you been sitting in the dark, sir?" Peter rambles out.

"How long I have been here doesn't matter, Parker, and no your aunt didn't see me illegally entering either." Fury glares at Peter after saying this as if he'd make any person see him breaking and entering.

He reaches into his black coat and throws down a manila file folder onto the coffee table in front of him.

Peter glances at the folder and then back up to the director. Fury gestures for him to take the folder.

Peter grabs the folder and seats down opposite Director Fury opening the file up.

In big, bold letters in the middle of a document, it read "DAVID THOMPSON" with a picture attached to the left-hand side of the file folder. Details about Mr. Thompson's life could be found throughout the file including what organization he was with and the types of projects he was suspected of being a part of if not projects that he was a part of.

"What can you tell me about your classmate, Mr. Eugene Thompson?"

"Flash?" Peter rhetorically answers back, looking up in alarm. Peter couldn't figure out why the head of SHIELD would even bother himself over Flash.

Fury glares at Peter, rolling his eyes.

"No, Parker, I meant the bright light that flashes in the sky. Yes! Him! I thought you'd be smarter. Stark always boasts about you." At this, Peter feels his face flush. It was always surreal to him that his father figure, Mr. Stark felt as if he was worthy enough to work alongside him.

"Well, I mean…" Peter stammered out, "He is on the Decathlon Team with me but only as a back-up of ours," Peter blurts out, gazing his eyes back down to the object in hand.

"Does he talk to you? Does he ever mention anything about Stark's creations?" Fury questions.

Peter inwardly flinches, tightening his hold a bit more on the folder. Flash talks to him but his words weren't always the nicest nor was the boy's demeanor towards Peter.

"No, sir. Flash and I don't talk." Fury scoffs at this.

He was hoping he wouldn't have to send the boy in front of him on a mission just yet. Unlike Stark, he needed Spider-Man to prove to him that he could handle himself before he did. Instead of automatically dragging him to a whole different country to start a fight between teammates just because he saw the potential the boy had.

Fury moves closer to the edge of the sofa. His black eye patch looked more on edge than ever in the light.

"I need you to listen to me very carefully, Mr. Parker. Don't interrupt me," Fury snaps out seeing as Peter was about to cut in.

"Word around the street is that David Thompson although had never worked with Stark back in the days...Was able to obtain some of his more dangerous weapons," Peter stiffened.

"Weapons previously thought to be destroyed. SHIELD received Intel from one of our insiders working with Thompson. It was said that Thompson plans to use these weapons soon. How soon? We don't know. Though the future timeline is meek, we have to be ready, Mr. Parker." Peter nods his head at the director. The director internally grimaces. The timeline wasn't meek like he told Parker. The spy already reported that Thompson wanted to use the upcoming field trip as his so-called grand entrance. He just wasn't all that ready nor was he fully comfortable to let the boy in front of him know all the details.

Peter opens his mouth to speak but then shuts it back up. He knew the director was serious when he told him not to interrupt.

"Speak." Fury demands. Raising one eyebrow, he pushes himself back onto the sofa.

Peter closes up the file after reading enough.

Looking up at Fury, "Sir...This all seems huge. I-I mean... What does Flash have to do with his dad? It's not like he's helping him...Is he?" Fury eyes Peter's reaction. He could tell the kid was visibly bothered by the information presented to him in the last twenty minutes.

"Listen, Parker. I'm going, to be frank with you. It was no coincidence that your school was able to obtain a trip to Stark's Building. Stark might blow a temper tantrum that SHIELD meddled in his affairs but he'll live. The question is, can I trust you with this job?" Peter gulps.

He knew at some point it would come to this with Director Fury coming to him for such an event. It was bound to happen. Director Fury's name was mentioned quite a lot when previous Avenger events were always discussed. He just hadn't realized how soon it would occur. He straightens himself out in his seat and looks at Fury with determination in his eyes. "Yes, Director Fury."

"Good. You better prove to me that Stark was right about you." Peter nods his head up and down in silent agreement then he starts fidgeting and hesitating to speak.

"Director Fury, sir," Peter stumbles out.

Fury raises his eyebrow at the boy in front of him. Based on the reports from Stark, the boy was smart, extremely smart but he forgot to mention he couldn't make complete sentences in front of intimidating people.

"Speak Parker and make it quick."

"Wi—will it be okay if I mention this to someone?" Peter could just feel the sweat start to appear on his face from asking this particular question.

Fury leans further back into the chair he is sitting on. He glares at the boy in front of him.

"Now I don't need to remind you, by giving you this mission, everything I've told you today has to stay quiet - absolutely confidential! Not even said to your so-called 'guy in the chair,' Ned."

Peter rapidly blinks at the man in front of him, taken back that the man knew about Ned. He opens his mouth to speak but then shuts it again.

"Yes, Parker. We know about your little friend. What you fail to realize is that Ned isn't the greatest hacker that you both exclaim and believe he is."

"I...Director Fury, sir?"

"Contrary to belief, SHIELD has had an eye on you since you first popped up. Anyone who mysteriously just comes out of the woodwork with superpowers doesn't lay low for long on our radars. Stark wasn't the only one who was interested in bringing you on board. We were just waiting until you were older before bringing you in…but Stark went ahead and brought you in despite you being underage." Director Fury stares Peter down after saying this. He wasn't too happy that Stark interfered too early in someone SHIELD was already going to bring in when they became of age. Yet, at this point, it didn't matter. He, himself, was going to be allowing the boy into a top-secret mission. So he couldn't put all the blame on Stark at this point.

"SHIELD has been the reason you and your friend haven't been called in yet nor detected in any private system you both hack during your endorsements of being Spider-Man."

Peter flushes, he never thought they'd ever get caught. Ned was just that good, or so he thought. If Director Fury was to be believed, SHIELD was the main reason that Ned and himself never got caught in their hacking schemes.

"So to answer your question, Parker. No, you do not get to tell anyone. Not a soul." Peter gulped and nodded in agreement.
