The Unofficial Avenger's Field Trip Mission

Chapter 3

This was it, the day of the field trip. Peter couldn't help but feel as if things were going to go wrong today. Don't get him wrong, he was excited to actually tour the SI building but it was the ominous task that Director Fury left him with that made him feel dreadful.

"Hey, Peter!" Peter looks over to see his best friend waving him down near the school buses in front of their school. There were four buses lined up ready to go to take them all to the SI Building. He couldn't help but allow all of his fears to be washed away with his excitement. Sure he has been to the building countless times already, but this was different.

Usually, when they had time during his afternoon trips, he would explore each floor with Tony following close by in the background in case he had any issues with one of the staff members. It rarely ever did happen but Mr. Stark was protective of Peter, he wasn't going to allow anyone to bully his kid. But not once has he ever been able to go on one of the tour groups. Tony didn't want the tour groups to miss their experience by being distracted by his presence.

Peter tried to argue saying he'd go on one of the tour guides by himself but Tony wasn't having it. If Tony wasn't available to follow him around, he always made sure that Happy was available or if they were available, one of the Accord-approved Avengers, now that was cool. No offense to Happy but to be able to talk to some of the same people he fought alongside and beforehand, used to idolize was amazing.

With all the past events that occurred between him and Mr. Stark, Peter once more couldn't help but start to look towards Tony as a father figure in his life. They spent so much time together and Mr. Stark always wanted to be sure he was okay if Aunt May wasn't around. That's why it was decided a few months ago, whenever she worked too late or had an overnight shift, he'd stay with Tony. Both adult figures in his life felt so much safer and thankful for the other when this occurred.

Hopefully, at least with the field trip occurring, his classmates will finally believe him about his internship with Mr. Stark, he thought to himself.

Peter starts heading towards the group that he sees slowly forming, trying his best to avoid the students hanging around the front of the school before the bell rings for class.

"Ned!" Peter greeted, grinning at his best friend, reaching his hand out at the same time as Ned does and doing their custom handshake.

Peter sees MJ nearby, standing by her lonesome away from the growing group but staring at both of them in particular. He nervously grins at her, as she nods her head at him in acknowledgment.

Ned brings his attention back to him, "Peter! Aren't you excited?! We're going to be touring Tony Stark's actual building! Maybe we might even see him! Or, or maybe we might even see an Avenger! That would be so cool!" Peter chuckles at his friend's excitement.

It was nice knowing that despite Ned knowing he constantly visits Mr. Stark's building every week or almost every week, he still wanted to have him on the same level of excitement that he was on.

"Yeah, man! That would be so cool! I mean, I don't know if Mr. Stark will be there though. He was telling me last night before I left that he had plans already today." Ned's smile dies down a bit after hearing this.

"Hey, yo, Penis!" Peter's eye twitches and his smile die down upon hearing his classmate call out to him with his ridiculous nickname for him.

"Penis! Penis Parker! Aren't you hearing me shouting your name, Parker?! Isn't it time that you come clean...!?" Flash comes into his line of view. Two of his friends, standing behind him, eyeing him and Ned down.

"We can all hear you, Flash. I think even the Queen of England can hear you, with how loud you're shouting." MJ interjects, going nearer to the group and standing by Peter and Ned.

Flash rolls his eyes at her, dismissing her comment. "Like I was saying before someone rudely interrupted," Flash glares at MJ after saying this. "Are you finally going to come clean about this so-called internship of yours, Parker? We all know it's a flat-out lie! Save yourself some embarrassment and admit it already!" Peter rolls his eyes but notices that their surrounding classmates were starting to listen in on their conversation. Some part of him couldn't help but be disheartened that so many didn't believe him. Sure, he and Ned were social outcasts but some of his classmates, he's known since kindergarten! He's never been one to make up outrageous lies and they should have known that already.

Peter couldn't help but wonder if Flash's dad's personality was anything like his son's. He really hoped not. He can barely handle one Flash much less two!

"I do have an internship with Mr. Stark, Flash," Peter grunts out. He didn't want his day to be ruined so early in the morning but he could just feel the tension building up around them.

"Sure and I'm Spiderman's sidekick!" At this remark, Peter heard Ned trying to stop himself from laughing.

"You got something to say, Ted?" Flash turns his attention towards Ned upon seeing his action.

Ned stands up straight and talks back, "Flash, even if you were Spiderman's sidekick, why would you even announce it? Also, it's Ned." Peter looks towards Ned in shock and a bit of awe. Ned's never talked back to Flash before, so this comeback was new. Now, if only he could do the same.

Flash hears laughter amongst the crowd after hearing Ned's comment. "Just shut up, Ted! Before I make you shut up!" Flash exclaims, trying to save face. Flash could feel his face heating up from the obvious laughter around them.

Before anything else can be said, the warning bell rings out indicating the first class of the day would soon be starting. Their once growing group starts to diminish as students rush into the school building to not miss the first bell. Soon the only students outside were the ones going on the field trip including their designated chaperones.

"Alright, students, listen up!" Mr. Harrington shouts out. Bringing the attention towards him.

"Now we're a pretty big group to go to Stark Institute today so we don't want anyone wandering off just because. Remember, you'll not only be representing yourself but also representing our school. Impressions are everything! No funny business once we get there, got it?!" A loud murmuring of agreements came as the reply.

"Okay, good! Now that is settled, we'll be splitting up into four groups. We'll be calling out names and assigning you a bus number." Mr. Harrington points towards the large bold-printed number on the side of the bus next to him with the number "1" on it. The students could see that the remaining buses each had a number on the side up to the number "4."

"When you're assigned a bus number, please, head towards that numbered bus and go in and be seated. Don't try to save seats for your friends, understood? Nothing is guaranteed, everyone was given a different bus at random. Based on the bus number that you're assigned, and the group of students you're with, that will be your tour group for this trip. Do not try to mingle with other groups when we get there. Now, when we have lunch, that's when you guys can mingle with your friends if you are indeed in separate groups." Peter and Ned look at each other when Mr. Harrington finishes his instructions. They really hoped they'd be in the same group.

"Avril, Sally, Bus 4!"

"Brant, Betty, Bus 1!"

"Brown, Abraham, Bus 4!"

"Davidson, Joshua, Bus 2!" More and more names start to be called out. The boys didn't really pay any attention until they heard the last names from L starting to be called.

"Leeds, Ned, Bus 1!" Peter and Ned grin at each other, casually waving bye to each other as Ned heads towards the bus next to Mr. Harrington. Peter starts to zone out as more names get called out until he hears MJ's name.

"Jones, Michelle, Bus 3!" MJ rolls her eyes upon hearing her full name and shuffles past the decreasing number of students and heads into Bus 3 to sit in. Peter couldn't help but admire her aloofness to everything. More names start to be called. As the number of students outside of buses started to become less and less.

"McKeever, Tiny, Bus 4!"

"Moon, Cindy, Bus 2!" Peter perks up, if they're using alphabetical order, then he's right up after Cindy. He crosses his fingers, hoping to be on the same bus as Ned or maybe even MJ.

"Parker, Peter, Bus 3!" Peter looked dejected at the bus next to Mr. Harrington. He could see Ned looking out of the windows, his face turning from happiness to one of sadness. It definitely sucked that he couldn't be with his best friend for this trip, but at least he had MJ, he reasoned to himself. He heads towards Bus 3, enters it, and heads towards some of the empty seats in the back.

MJ is eyeing him down, making sure to make a grand show and emphasize her bag is right next to her on her seat to avoid anyone sitting next to her. He laughs awkwardly and sits a couple of seats in front of her as if not to disturb her space.

"O'Reilly, Seymour, Bus 2!"

"Thompson, Eugene, Bus 3!" Upon hearing Flash's name being called out and with it, the same bus number he was assigned, Peter groans out. Despite being on a task for SHIELD, to look out for Flash's dad, he was hoping he wouldn't have to deal with Flash being in the same group.

"Walker, David, Bus 4!" With the last name being called, Mr. Harrington nods towards the other chaperones and starts to head into Bus 1 with another teacher. Peter vaguely remembered seeing that teacher before but didn't know their name. Maybe Ned could tell him when he sees him at lunch, Peter thought to himself.

Peter watches as Mr. Dell enters his bus alongside Ms. Robinson, making sure to do roll calls of their group before sitting down in the two front rows of the bus. They both would be the chaperones of group 3.

All four buses start-up to leave the school grounds. Peter slouches in his seat to avoid any unwanted attention, specifically from Flash. He takes in his surroundings as they start to drive towards Stark Institute. He vaguely listens in on his classmate's conversations. They're all so loud as he winces at times with their loud laughter. They're so excited to be able to visit Stark Institute. Apparently, it was usually difficult to get accepted to tour the building. Some of them were wondering how their school was even able to. Especially, according to Sarah Fye, one of the school's reporters, mentioning that Stark Institute even had waitlists for their group tours! Peter grinned slightly upon hearing this. He knew exactly how they got in. But he couldn't tell them the reason, he frowned. So he kept his thoughts to himself.

More loud laughter came about, as he winced once more. His sensitivity to noise was a killer. He hated the feeling. It always led him to feel lousy and messed up for the day. He doesn't know how bus drivers can do it, driving with a loud bunch of kids on the bus. He knows he'd be distracted from all of their loud noises while driving.

Peter tries his best to block out all of the noise. He starts to think more about the task that Director Fury wanted him to do today. He still wasn't really sure how a field trip to Starks Institute would help in any way to stop Flash's dad from using the dangerous weapons that he took from Mr. Stark's company. To Peter, throwing a bunch of kids in such a situation just screams trouble. But what did he know? He was just a kid. A kid with superpowers, he corrects his train of thought. He needed to start thinking differently if he even wanted Director Fury to take him seriously after this.

He looks out the window, surprise showed on his face. They were starting to approach Mr. Stark's building already. This was it, he thought. One thing's for certain, he needed to start thinking like an Avenger.
