The Unofficial Avenger's Field Trip Mission
Chapter 4
As Peter waits to disembark from the bus, he feels the hair on his neck stand up. Something was triggering his senses. As he steps off the last step, he couldn't help but look around the area. Something seemed off but he couldn't place his eye on it. He tries not to worry too much about it, as he waves at Ned as he sees him near group 1 waving at him. Maybe it was just a false alarm and he was just being paranoid.
"Hey, nerd. I'm trying to exit." Peter flushes, as some of his classmates giggle at him for stopping and not paying attention. He hears Flash laughing the loudest in the group. MJ pushes him slightly as she gets off the bus.
Mr. Dell and Ms. Robinson start yelling out roll calls once more to double-check that none of their students wandered off to another group upon exiting the bus. After making sure no one wandered off, Ms. Robinson looks towards Mr. Dell as he looks back at her. To Peter, it looked like they weren't sure who should take the lead now. Luckily Mr. Harrington comes up to them with two other teachers next to him deciding for them.
"Ms. Robinson, are you ready? We just need to get the kids' passes before heading towards security." Mr. Dell grins and happily exclaims, "Ha!" As if he won their little game. Ms. Robinson looks at him annoyed but acknowledges Mr. Harrington and her other two coworkers, and walks alongside them to get the students their tour passes.
All four groups head inside the building in the meantime. Peter felt more at ease upon entering the building. Maybe it was just his senses playing tricks on him.
They take in the huge space and gaze around in amazement. Peter couldn't help but grin to himself. He remembers the first time he entered Mr. Stark's building. He, too, had the same look on his face as his classmates currently do.
As the four remaining teachers start to head back to their respective groups and to also reunite with their co-chaperone, Peter eyes the small basket each one had in their arms. He knows they contain the guest tour passes that each of them would have to wear to identify why they were in the building. Peter slightly panics, he knows he has his own pass in his backpack but he didn't want to draw attention to himself by pulling it out. He really hopes he doesn't see Happy around, as he knows Happy won't be too pleased if he uses another pass to get into the building. He wasn't head of security for nothing.
His pass was specifically designed for him by Mr. Stark. It was a golden holographic pass that a select few had with their name and position on it. Mr. Stark made sure he had the same access as himself, Pepper, Happy, and the other Avengers. The Avengers he knows doesn't have their real names on it. Unless they wanted it, it usually has their superhero name on it. Something he thought was a fantastic idea. It helps to not allow people into their personal lives.
Mr. Stark also made it known to his staff that Peter mainly had such a pass due to him being his personal intern. Nothing else. The title on his card is actually pretty ridiculous and a bit hilarious. His title under his name reads out "Tony Stark's Personal Intern and the ONLY Personal Intern of His." Peter knew some employees were a bit upset at this fact but Mr. Stark always made it known that any negativity towards his personal intern would see that individual out of his company. He wasn't going to stand any bullying whatsoever.
Peter wonders if a guest pass would work for him. It should...He thinks. He knows when he gets to security, he would have to tell them his name as he passes through the metal detectors. He knows tour groups generally have to provide security with the names of the individuals in their groups beforehand so that they can link a set of tour guide passes to them. Yet, Happy always made sure that only one pass was connected to one person. No one was allowed two or more passes to their name. It was for security issues, something that Happy took very seriously.
Would they deny him access if he's using a guest pass? He didn't want to draw so much attention to himself at the very beginning of the tour. He wanted his classmates to believe him but not in such a situation. Maybe he should have asked Mr. Stark that question last night before leaving to head back to his and Aunt May's apartment.
Mr. Dell and Ms. Robinson start to hand out everyone's guest pass, calling out names so students can get them. Peter notices that the other groups with them were doing the same.
"Parker, Peter," Ms. Robinson calls out. Peter makes his way to her, thanking her for the pass. He sees Mr. Dell from the corner of his eye, eyeing him down. Great, another teacher that probably doesn't believe his internship either.
Peter moves to the back of the group, eyeing the pass in his hand. The pass was connected to a blue lanyard with the words "Stark Institute" in silver lettering on it. The pass itself was holographic just the same as his own pass, but instead of it being a gold color it was more of a shimmering light blue color. His name was on it as well, he grimaces. Happy isn't going to like this at all, he thinks to himself. Underneath his name was the words: "Guest Pass: Student Tour." He was surprised that his guest pass was even approved due to the policy. He knew there were different guest passes in general with another version of it saying, "Guest Pass: Regular Tour." He really hoped it wouldn't be an issue.
As Ms. Robinson hands out the last guest pass in their basket, Mr. Dell clears his throat and addresses the group. Peter notices that they have their guests pass around their necks, with theirs saying their name and also "Guest Pass: Student Chaperone."
"Now remember, it's like Mr. Harrington told you all before we left the school, NO FUNNY BUSINESS. You do not want us to alert your parents during the trip that their kid has to be picked up because we will definitely do that if it comes down to it." Mr. Dell eyes Peter in the back of the group as he says that, Peter visibly gulps. He feels a hand brush against his and looks towards his side and sees MJ. She has a smirk on her face as if she realizes Mr. Dell is point blankly looking directly at Peter as he talks to their group. All around him, his classmates shuffle from one foot to another. Hoping that nothing bad occurred to where their parents had to be called.
"Now, we're just waiting for our tour guide to come and greet us. Once they come to do so, I want every one of you to be on your best manners! Treat them with respect and again, no roughhousing out of anyone!" Ms. Robinson exclaims. Peter remembers taking her math class last year. He internally shudders, she was always so very strict. All he remembers was that class was a nightmare.
Behind his teachers, he sees a young dark-haired male start to approach them. Peter tries to recall if he has ever seen him around in the building before. The male taps Mr. Dell on the shoulder and he turns around.
"Hello, is this one of the groups for Midtown?" He asks. Mr. Dell grins at him and shakes his hand in greeting. "Why, yes, yes it is. Are you our tour guide?" The man nods his head yes.
"My name is Brian Stewart, I'm an intern here at Stark's Institute but have volunteered to be one of your tour guides." Peter looks a bit taken back. He's met all the interns before. Mr. Stark made sure of it. He definitely didn't recognize this Brian person. He looks towards the other three groups with them and realizes he doesn't recognize their tour guides either. What's going on? He asks himself. Director Fury never mentioned anything about inside help. So who exactly was this Brian Stewart person?
"I apologize in advance, but today, we seemed to have overbooked ourselves by mistake. We have another group along with yours at the same time. They're a very small group, so if you don't mind, we're going to ask you all if they can join in on your group tour. We can separate them, putting two in each of your groups."
Now it was his teachers to look taken back. They weren't expecting this at all. His teachers looked towards their coworkers and they even looked taken back as well.
Ms. Robinson steps up as the spokesperson for their overall group and says, "As long as it's two each, that will be fine. It's a lot on us, taking care of our students, and wouldn't want to burden any additional party." Brian smiles at her, thanking her. "It shouldn't be an issue, Ms..?" "Ms. Robinson and this is, Mr. Dell, my co-worker." Brian greets them both once more. He turns around and beckons towards a group that was nearby.
Peter and his classmates look at the group about to join theirs. Peter thinks they all look harmless. They all seem to be young to middle-aged adults. He wasn't sure what to think other than was this all a part of Director Fury's plan?
