A/N:
So I guess I need to put a disclaimer in this.
I do NOT own Harry Potter or any related properties.
I do NOT own Sandman or any related properties.
I do Not own ANY recognisable character or setting.
All of these belong to their respective owners, I am merely borrowing them for entertainment purposes.
With that said, the first 4 chapters are the Prologue and are basically Info-Dumps. Necessary but tedious and a bit dry. I'll post actual chapters eventually, but these needed to be done right away.
June 1999, Fortress of Shadows, Land of Shadows
Years had passed while Harry was in the Land of Shadows, learning from Scáthach. She was truly one of the greatest teachers to have ever lived, teaching everything from Pre-History to the latest advances in technology. And Harry learnt it all, soaking it all in like a sponge that had never been watered before.
He had discovered a lot about himself through the 3 centuries he had lived. He went on a journey of self-discovery to find himself and what makes him tick. And his hatred for Dumbledore and Riddle had grown a lot before he eventually became apathetic to them. He realised that such petty tyrants were beneath… practically everyone. Let alone his Sensei, they were beneath him and practically every other Supernatural Being in his current World.
That was another thing he learnt about; what his new World was like. Compared to his own, this New World was much more Magical, with Gods and Devils walking about as if it was the Age of the Gods still. Which it was, having never technically ended, but changed a bit. Scáthach had explained how it was possible, but at the time all he could understand was that the World somehow gained more Energy than it lost from Extra-Dimensional sources. So, the Gods could stay manifested while Humanity could also start learning to harness Science. Which was somehow repulsive to Supernatural Energy? Which explained electronics breaking at Hogwarts. And the declining Magic of his old World, come to think of it.
He had also met with Teleute over the years, finally talking about all the hints and nudges he had been getting from her and the people he knew. They talked it out, and while Teleute did love him, it was not in that way. Harry had been relieved since he barely understood love at all, having no personal memories of love to compare. They both readily accepted to keep their friendship as it was, with Harry considering her his best friend.
It was finally time. After almost 4 Centuries, it was Harry's 'graduation' or whatever. He had learnt all he wanted to, and could, from Scáthach. At this point, he had refined his technique and skill to Mastery, and that was just his combat and combat relating skills. He had a classical education that was truly as complete as possible; subjects ranging from maths and classical sciences to languages and the arts. Of course, his main field of study was Magic, particularly Runes, but even that was Mastered as much as possible. He was as well rounded as possible and had found his niche in the world. It was time to spread his wings, and Scáthach agreed.
"You have Mastered everything I put before you, and can even manage to beat me in combat once in a while. Of course, I still beat you into the ground but take pride in having the occasional Victory against a Proven God-Slayer. Before you go, I have a few things to say.
Once you leave the Land of Shadows, you should arrive in Scotland on the Isle of Skye. Technically still my castle, Dun Scaith is a shattered ruin, so there's not much there. The problem is, the fact that you'll appear there will alert some of the more vigilant powers to your arrival. I've not told you about them, because I want you to go out there and form your own opinions. I will recommend you head East to Japan since there's someone, I know will be able to help you with your little problem."
Harry just stared at his Sensei with a deadpan look; it wasn't his fault that none of the weapons here in the Shadowlands fit, and it seemed like a big problem. Also, this was just like Scáthach to throw him into the deep end and say 'Oh well, better learn to swim' when it came to the major powers of the World.
"Yes Scáthach-Sensei, I'll be sure to head East after dealing with the inquisitive neighbours. Thanks for the heads-up I guess"
Scáthach just smirked innocently before twirling her ever-present spear in a circle and striking it to the ground.
With a bang and a loud wind, a pair of enormous Gates appeared from thin air, before opening with an ominous rattle. Through the Gates, where there should be a view of the Shadowlands, appeared an opening to what looked like an open plain. Harry looked through it with a bit of nerves and anticipation, before turning to Scáthach.
"Before I go, I just want to say thank you once more. I have no words to describe how grateful I am for your teachings, and that's impressive because I know over a hundred languages. Thank you, sincerely, Scáthach. I hope that someday in the future I'll be able to repay you for your… hmm, kindness isn't the right word, maybe tor-urk"
Scáthach interrupted Harry by kicking him through the Gates, an irritated frown/smile on her face. With a fond smirk, she turned and walked back to her fortress, already somewhat missing her student.
June 31, Dun Scaith, Isle of Skye, Scotland
Harry shouted obscenities as he fell through the Gate, feeling a nauseous shift as he was moved from the Outside of the World to his destination in Scotland. Landing on his back, he tumbled backwards before gaining control over his movement and pushing up to his feet. Taking a moment to breathe in the fresh highland air, Harry opened his eyes and looked around.
There wasn't much to see, just a rocky hill with a surprisingly intact castle ruin. There wasn't anything here to interest Harry, so he decided to set off and follow Scáthach's advice. East it was, yet beyond Japan, he had no clue where to go. And to top off a frustrating situation, a Magic Circle appeared on the ground a few meters away.
With a flash of light, the scent of Ozone lingering in the air, a group of what appeared to be people appeared from the Magic Circle. Teleportation, something infinitely more comfortable than Apparition, yet a lot slower. Harry had learnt it as soon as possible, seeing as how he couldn't use Apparition anymore. Then he discovered he had alternatives that were as comfortable and much faster, which pleased him to no end.
The apparent leader of the group that teleported in stepped forward 'menacingly', which just made Harry smirk inwardly at the poor intimidation tactics. It didn't help that the group each sported an arrogant sneer on their lips that reminded Harry too much of the Malfoys.
"Who are you and what are you doing here, human? Where is the godling that appeared from the Witch's lands?!"
Harry quirked an eyebrow at the sheer arrogance of the… being before him. He had no clue what they were, but they felt foul as if they were steeped in sin and revelled in debauchery and depravity. Seems that there were evil entities in this World, and they had arrogance down to an art. Failed art, but art nonetheless. The compulsion in the air just barely redeemed him from complete idiocy, but the guy and his gang were still idiots of the highest order.
"I don't quite get where your arrogant demeanour stems from. You don't know me; you don't know my capabilities and you don't even know what I am. So how are you so confident that you can start demanding things from the only person near a major Magical disturbance?"
One member of the gang that stayed behind the leader started looking nervous for some reason (common sense) but the rest just sneered even more. The leader even went so far as to arrogantly flare his minuscule power as another failed intimidation tactic.
"I'm a Devil and you are merely a Human. I am the Last Scion of the Valefor Clan of the 72 Pillar Clans of the Underworld. I can tell that you're merely a weak, untrained Human, so submit and tell me what I wanted to know."
By this point Harry was shaking with suppressed laughter, probably making them believe he was shaking in fear. He could feel the other observers that had arrived after this 'Devil' and his group, yet they had decided to be smart and let the idiot commit suicide by unknown. Finally, it was too much for Harry and he burst out into loud, slightly maniacal laughter.
"*Ha* Tell you what you want to know? Fine! I'm Harry, nice to meet you. And I am the latest student of the Witch of Dun Scaith! Do you think I'm a weak Human? Wrong on both accounts, but then I guess weakness leads to blindness when it occurs in the arrogant!"
As he spoke, Harry started flaring his Magic, pressing the weight of his power down on the idiots before him. He stopped at barely a fifth of his power, and they were already crushed to the floor and gasping in fear. He could sense the apprehension from the observers as their concealment wavered in response to their emotions, but he disregarded them since they seemed to be there for inspection purposes only.
"Get out of here before I kill you, oh 'Great Valefor', and learn to gauge threats properly. Also, study your surroundings better, you've been used as canon-fodder to find out how powerful I am. I failed, but that's just because you're weak."
Turning away, Harry tossed a last bit of advice over his shoulder before he started his trek towards his destination… that he didn't know. Letting out a sigh, Harry slumped a bit before whirling around and catching the hand of the Valefor Devil. His stronger Magic overpowered the Devil's ice spell that was attached to his hand. Gripping the hand tight, he crushed the bones in the Devil's hand before tossing him back towards his gang.
"Alright, I gave you a chance and you squandered it. You die now, and the observers get to see a few of my powers."
With that said, Harry flashed forward and thrust a hand covered in Light Energy towards the first Devil. Immediately he burst into shadowy powder and disappeared, which Harry realised was in response to the Light Energy. Shrugging, he swung out with his other hand and bisected 2 of the last remaining 6 with a blade of Dark Energy, before blasting the last 4 away with a mix of Dark and Light Energy he had affectionately taken to calling Luminous Energy.
Dusting his hands off, Harry made a show of looking around, pausing meticulously at each hiding spot, before shaking his head and moving along. Sensing the hidden observers disappearing, he smiled as he walked placidly into the Scottish Highlands, idly wondering if a Hogwarts Castle existed here or not.
Harry was looking forward to learning about this strange new World.
