A young woman was driving to a courtyard on a pink motorized scooter with various stickers of aliens and mythical creatures on it. It was Amelia Jones, a journalist at the Internet media agency BuzzBlast. As she took her helmet off, she heard the loud roar of a motorcycle. She turned and saw a yellow motorcycle parking behind her. The driver of the bike shut the engine off then took off the helmet, revealing a girl with naturally tan skin, black hair to her chest, and a fit figure. Amelia smiled when she saw who it was.
"Hey, Ange." She said to her childhood friend Angelina Smith, a prodigal genius with computers and technology.
Angelina smiled back at Amelia. "Hey." She said then the two hugged.
"What did you do this weekend?" The journalist asked.
"I spent it at my grandparents' house. Someone hacked their WiFi and planted a virus in their computer."
"Oh no! Is it fixed?"
"Yeah. I cleared the virus out then installed some protection software for them. I even changed their password for them too."
"That's good. Jane call you here for some computer help?"
"Yeah, she said WiFi signal's been a bit spotty so I'm here to see if I can fix that."
The two then saw Amelia's boss, Jane and caught up to her.
"How was your weekend, Jane?" Amelia asked.
"We had one?" Jane asked. "I wouldn't know. I was busy on my new story."
"Well, nice to know I'm not the only one who spent my weekend working." Angelina said. "What's your story about?"
"Overworking on weekends."
"Relevant." Amelia said. "Speaking of stories, I have a great idea for one."
"Amelia, that's fantastic!" Jane said. "I just hope it's no paranormal nonsense."
The three walked into BuzzBlast and Jane turned to Amelia after greeting the secretary. "So, what's this idea of yours?" She asked.
"It's about a historic landmark deep in the woods called Dinohenge." Amelia said.
"I think I've heard of that place. There are statues there that resemble eight different types of prehistoric creatures. A T-Rex, a Triceratops, an Ankylosaurus, a Brachiosaurus, a Saber-toothed Tiger, a Stegosaurus, a Mosasaurus, and a Mammoth." Angelina said.
"Isn't that place supposed to be haunted, though?" Jane asked then turned to Amelia sternly. "So this is another ghost article." She said, sounding annoyed.
"Technically, it's my first ghost article." Amelia said.
"Firstly, you need permission to be in that part of the forest." Jane said as they kept walking.
"Which I totally have." Amelia said but Angelina saw her friend's fingers crossed behind her back while Jane couldn't.
"Secondly, like I always say, BuzzBlast isn't about ghosts and sasquatches..." Jane started.
"...but about skateboards, singers, fashionable foods, and top ten travel tips." Amelia finished.
"Speaking of which, don't you have a lip gloss review due today?"
"I did it yesterday." Amelia said then the three of them watched a sneak peek at Amelia with samples of glow in the dark lipstick.
"Love that! Any samples I could borrow?"
"Already on your desk." The brunette replied as they walked up a flight of stairs to Jane's office. "Jane, I wanna do something different."
"If you want, Jane, I can go with her after I take a look at the WiFi router. Try to make sure she doesn't delve into her paranormal investigator mode." Angelina offered, but already knew full well she wouldn't be able to keep Amelia on her assigned task.
Jane sighed. "Alright, Amelia. But, keep it a factual story about the landmark. No paranormal stuff." She said.
"It will be, don't worry." Amelia said.
"Okay." Jane said as she walked into her office.
"Gimme a few minutes to fix the WiFi problem, then we can go." Angelina said and Amelia nodded.
After fixing the problem and getting paid for it, the two best friends were in the woods.
"My friend, Angelina and I are nearing Dinohenge, guys. In my hands is my Spook Snare, which tracks and captures ghosts. Today, I'm proving ghosts are real, BuzzBlasters." Amelia said to a camera attached to her Spook Snare.
"You do know you'll have to keep this footage from Jane and do the report that you said you'd do, right?" Angelina reminded her as the Spook Snare was beeping. Amelia followed the readings she was getting then fired the net when she had a clear shot. She and Angelina ran to where the sounds of someone struggling were coming from and found not a ghost, but a guy about their age in the net. Near him was a bicycle.
"I'm sorry! I thought you were someone else!" Amelia said. "I'll deactivate it." She promised but hit a button that shot lightning onto the netting.
"Wrong button!" The guy said.
Angelina shut the net off then the best friends pulled the net off of him. "You okay?"
"Yeah, but that thing smarts." He replied.
"It can't hurt that much." Amelia reasoned then got zapped as well. "Ow!"
"Can't hurt that much, huh?" Angelina teased.
"I hardly felt a thing." Amelia defended.
"Why are you two shooting nets at people?" He asked them.
"Would you believe me if I said my friend's a reporter doing a story for BuzzBlast?" Angelina asked.
"How about you?" Amelia asked him.
"Online reviews said it's a great place for a zapping. So, five stars." He remarked sarcastically.
"Great." Angelina joked then looked at him. "Seriously, though, why are you out here? For these parts, you need special permission to visit."
He didn't answer and started looking all around them. He talked to himself then the two friends turned to him when he brought up Dinohenge.
"We're headed there too." Amelia said. "And we just so happen to have a map." She added then looked at the map then pointed ahead of them. "This way."
"By the way, I'm Ollie." The guy said.
"I'm Amelia." Amelia said.
"Angelina. Most people, Amelia and my family included, call me Ange." Angelina said. "So, Ollie, you're new around here, aren't you?"
"Yeah." He said. "How'd you know?"
"Lucky guess." She replied then leaned on Amelia as her head started hurting.
"Is she okay?" Ollie asked.
"Yeah. She gets brief little dizzy spells." Amelia replied as Angelina started recovering.
"I've dealt with them since I was 15." Angelina replied.
"Anyway, my mother and I just moved her. She's an archaeologist. Wants to unearth this place's history." Ollie said.
"Well, this place is packed with that." Amelia said.
"And here's a little bit of it." Angelina said as they approached eight statues of dinosaurs.
"No way." Ollie said, amazed. "Where'd they come from?"
"Nobody knows." Amelia slightly drawled out to sound mysterious.
"Amazing, huh?" A woman asked. "Carvings of dinosaurs. Possibly millions of years old."
"Who would've carved them?" Ollie asked.
"Dr. Akana." The woman said.
"Amelia." Amelia said as the two shook hands. "I'm here doing a story for BuzzBlast."
"I'm Angelina. Nice to meet you, Dr. Akana." Angelina said.
"Likewise. One day here and you have two friends already, Ollie. I like them."
"You weren't shot at with an electric net." Ollie said and his mother looked at the girls confused.
"A minor misunderstanding, Dr. Akana." Angelina said then took notice of the tech. "Dope setup."
"A girl who likes technology. I respect that." Dr. Akana said.
Angelina inspected the drone. "Okay, if that's a scanner on this baby, I'm so jealous."
"So, what are you working on here?" Amelia asked.
"With my scanning system, we're gonna solve the mystery of Dinohenge."
"Okay, officially jealous. Mind if I incorporate some of your designs for my tech, Doctor?" Angelina asked with a wide smile.
"Not at all, Angelina. Help yourself."
Angelina was fighting to contain her glee as Ollie's mother began typing.
"The drone's sensors detect buried structures. The drone soon hovered above the statues and scanned them then the eyes of the statues glowed red, blue, pink, yellow, green, grey, and white.
"What the...?" Angelina whispered.
"You two see that?" Ollie asked.
"The eyes."
"Intriguing." Dr. Akana said as the ground began to shake.
"Earthquake?" Amelia asked.
"Maybe? I'm not a geologist." Angelina replied as the rumbling faded and the drone landed on the box it was sitting on. The tech genius then walked to Ollie's mother and gaped at what was on the monitors.
"Unusual." Dr. Akana said as Ollie and Amelia walked to them.
"What is it?" Ollie asked.
"According to these readings, there's definitely some kind of...chamber or something under these statues." Angelina replied.
Ollie's mother smiled at her son.
"No way!" Amelia said, sounding amazed.
"What's going on here?" A man asked and the four saw a man in a district ranger uniform walked to them.
"Great. Warden Buzzkill." Amelia grumbled then got jabbed in the side by Angelina's elbow.
"Hello..." Dr. Akana started.
"Park Warden Garcia." The warden said.
"I'm Dr. Lani Akana from the Global Association of Archaeology."
He nodded at her, but didn't seem happy at the sight of Amelia and Angelina.
Angelina met his gaze evenly. "Warden Garcia." She said.
"Miss Smith." He replied. "You all don't have permission to be out here."
"But I'm doing a story on..." Amelia started.
"I don't care if you're a reporter or the Queen of England, Miss Jones. You're all trespassing, nonetheless. Doctor, I'm gonna have to ask you to pack up and come back to HQ with me and file a report."
"Of course, Warden. I'm happy to comply." Ollie's mom said then walked away with the warden while the teens set to packing up.
"Pissed off the Warden once, huh?" Ollie asked Amelia.
"More like 17 times." Angelina said.
"He's no fan of ghost hunters." Amelia said.
"...Ghost hunters?" Ollie asked.
"Yeah. Rumor has it this part of the forest is haunted." Angelina said.
"So, that's why you shot that net at me?" Ollie asked.
"In my defense, there was fog and your poncho's white." Amelia said. "Besides, your mom's an archaeologist. With all the tombs, crypts, and catacombs you've been in, you must've seen some."
"Nope."
"Not once?"
"Not once, because they don't exist. Back me up, Ange?"
"Sorry, Ollie. You don't know Amelia like I do. She may be a reporter, but she's got a side interest in cryptozoology. I gave up on trying to talk her out of it years ago."
"Do you believe in those things?"
"Not like her, but I will admit I'm skeptical."
"Any proof of ghosts?" Ollie asked the two.
"Kinda hard to come by."
"Yeah. They don't exactly line up for selfies." Amelia added. "But why explain this to someone who's closed-minded?"
"I'm not. I'm rational." Ollie said.
"There are a lot of rational people who believe, Ollie." Angelina reasoned. "Evidence or not."
"So let's agree to disagree." Amelia said.
"Strongly disagree." Ollie concurred.
"Okay, you two. Last thing we need right now is a fight." Angelina said as a man in a strange suit of armor appeared while the three hid behind a statue. In his right hand was a saber and in his left was a scanner. He made a hole near the statues then walked down.
Angelina stepped forward but Ollie grabbed her wrist. "What?" She hissed.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"That guy came here for a reason. I'm gonna follow him to see what he wants." She said then pulled her hand free and followed the armored warrior. Ollie and Amelia joined her.
