Last Chapter…
Iris made a low-pitched muttering. Steven cast a keen glance at the champion with the dark hair. " Iris, what was that?"
He used a low voice. " This suggests that you want to go all out." Cynthia suddenly let out a startled gasp. "That's it, then! We can dance together!" Iris sighed loudly, and so did the male Champions. Misty made a public remark. " I would never vote for that." Lance snorted. "On that, I concur with you." While Mr. Goodshow screamed, the other champs spoke up. "I've had enough! We're going to vote now. Your vote, Steven the champion?"
Steven looked thoughtful as he shrugged his shoulders and lightly brushed his chin with his thumb and index finger. "To be honest I think that with the time constraints, this might be the best plan we can come up with. I say yes." Lance looked twice. "Huh? You can't be serious, Steven!" Goodshow made a declaration. "One in favour and none opposed. Champion Iris?"
Iris said something " In all honesty, I'd prefer not."
"Now, Champion Cynthia, is it one for each?" She answered as had anticipated. "Oh my my, I cannot wait! How will I dress? Although I've always wanted to wear my white dress, would my light blue dress look better instead? Oh, I'm not sure." The yelled Mr. Goodshow. "Cynthia, champion!" She noticed how many people were looking at her at once and immediately blushed. She muttered. "I say, Yes."
Mr. Goodshow said to the group: "So, two votes in favour and one against. Green, the Champion is up next." Green gestured as though it were evident by waving her hand in the air. " In a million years, no." Cynthia gave her an angry look before 'humping' aloud and walking away. "Two for each. Diantha?" Diantha spoke up with joy. "I think I'll support this dance," you said. Mr. Goodshow nodded and counted the third affirmative. He started up again. "Red?" whispered Ash. "No."
What do you say, Leon? He responded, "No. Lack of interest. Given the fierce competition, I would choose to train my Pokemon to become stronger. After then, Goodshow enquired, "How about you, Geeta?" and she replied, "Yes, I back this!"
Everyone looked at Lillie who was the kingmaker due to her vote being the one that decides. Misty and Lance were worried that Lillie would support the dance and Lillie looked nervous due to everyone looking at her. Lillie then said "I vote in favour of the dance."
From the table, a chorus of cries could be heard. While Misty and Lance sprang out of their seats, Cynthia and Diantha rejoiced, Iris sighed loudly, while Steven, Leon, and Geeta chuckled at everyone's antics. Lance gasped. "However, sir! We cannot reasonably dance for the general public, can we? You cannot do that, please!" Mr. Goodshow was silent once more before he exclaimed with joy. "I have the answer to that!"
To try to settle her worries, Misty drank some water. How could things possibly be worse? Goodshow made a declaration. "Get the word out to all of your gym leaders and elites! Five days from today is when the dance will be held! I'll let everyone know where it is! The dance also requires that you bring a date!" He concluded with a broad grin. While coughing as if her life depended on it, Misty spat her water all over the table.
Why was he believing that? What date? Mr. Goodshow laughed as he observed the normally composed Red acting so agitated. "A date, yes Red."
"Ash, would you do me the highest honour by accompanying me to the dance?" When Ash heard this, he simply grinned. He wanted to dance with Misty because he knew there would be a dance. He was daydreaming about how their dance would go and was certain that he would wear the greatest attire.
For a brief period, he remained silent as he considered Misty. Misty, on the other hand, was drenched with sweat. It was a very long shot to try this. In any case, she didn't really want to go to the dance with anyone else.
She started to lose hope, though, as the seconds stretched into minutes, and she lost hope with each passing second. She spoke quickly after a whole three minutes of eerie silence. Maybe I shouldn't have asked you, Ash. I'm sorry. I'll see you later. The black-haired boy interrupted her as she was going to leave him.
"I desire I could accompany you, Misty."
Misty paused, uncertain of her understanding of what was said. He caught her attention with an unreadable expression on his face. She was surprised, and it came through in her voice. "Did you just say you would go?" Ash said quietly while nodding. "Greetings, Misty. I'm powerless to resist there. As well..." He laughed. "I've probably never seen a girl as gorgeous as you. So, yes. I'll be happy to accompany you."
Lightly blushing, Misty was adamant about getting her back. As calmly as she could, she spoke.
"Splendid. Everything you need to know is on this card, and it is due in two days."
A tiny card, no bigger than her index finger, was given to him. He turned to look at the card, then turned to smile at Misty. She seemed to be anticipating his reading it. He smiled widely after thoroughly reading it. "T-This party is for E-Elites only!"
Misty nodded, her face reflecting thought. "And champions, gym leaders, etc. Cannot overlook them." He was flushing like crazy. Misty grabbed his hand and gave it a soft kiss. He said. "Other than you, Ash, there is no one else I would choose to go with. If you let me, you'll be ideal there." The pleasant praise from Misty made Ash's cheeks continue to glow red.
After a brief pause, he smiled and continued. "Right, Misty Yes, I will." The lady grinned. "Great. I'll come get you when you're ready. Simply prepare for anything." Before Ash called out, she gave her a small bow and started to leave. "Misty!" She turned to face him in anticipation of his response. He did after a little while. "Thanks. I'm excited to travel with you." Misty grinned once more, likely for the first time since the day she had been betrayed. " I, too, you Ash." After summoning one of her most dependable warriors, she walked away and dashed back to the Pokémon league.
As he observed her board the magnificent bird, Ash grinned. Why did he have the impression that he would see the bird soon?
Ash was in the dress which he wore when he traveled Kanto, Orange Islands, and Johto as he wanted to go back to his roots for training to be a better trainer. Ash and Misty were currenty traveling in Johto region and Ash agreed to travel with Misty as he needed help after the betrayal. Ash was in a dull mood and they were in a meadow where it wwas raining heavily and they had no umbrella. Misty saw Ash becoming more sad as he walked with them and suddenly he walked and started to cry on the ground while placing his calves and arms on the ground.
"I cannot believe that I was betrayed by Dawn, May, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Max, and Bonnie and that they even tried to kill me. What did I do for them to do that to me? Why should I give up my goal?" Misty stood and watched Ash crying heavily. Misty felt very sad for Ash.
"Ash, no matter how much you lose, whatever happens, I will be with you as I love you. We are both partners. I will always be with you and trust you. I will do whatever you say. Please do not be sad as you have me." Ash then stopped crying and then turned back to Misty.
Ash then went and kissed Misty again on her lips and she smiled as she felt Ash's lips touch against her lips. She knew most girls disliked boys who cried often but she was different and would be with Ash even if he cries often as Misty was her partner.
"Ash, I was surprised that you still love me even though I cried heavily." Misty smiled and looked at Ash.
"I love you for who you are and I like all of your character traits. I would not leave you no matter what." Ash smiled on hearing that.
"I also love you, Ash. Ash, you are growing more attractive as your body is changing to look better as you grow." Misty blushed on hearing that.
"Thanks, Misty! Let us go and travel in the meadow for some time together." Ash and Misty then got up. Ash and Misty then walked in the meadow for some time in the rain.
"Misty, let us dance in the heavy rain!" Misty was happy to hear that.
"Yes, let's dance!" Misty said.
Ash and Misty then danced in the heavy rain while they blushed while looking at each other dancing. Ash liked how Misty's body moved while she was dancing and Misty liked how Ash's body moved while he was dancing. Ash and Misty continued to dance for some time while the rain was becoming heavier.
Ash looked at Misty's eyes which he found beautiful with their blue color and her long red hair which he found to be beautiful. Misty was looking at Ash's face which she found to be handsome. Ash then kissed Misty on the lips and then thir mouths opened and Ash and Misty's tongues touched and held each other for some time and then they parted and Ash and Misty smiled at each other.
Ash and Misty walked in the heavy rain while looking at the meadow which looked beautiful in the heavy rain and Ash's left hand held Ash's right hand and Ash loved the feeling of Misty's hand. Ash and Misty continued to walk in the hevy rain for some time while they enjoyed each other's presence. Misty was grateful to have Ash as his partner and Ash was grateful to have Misty as her partner.
Their lips got a little bit closer. Ash had completely forgotten about the awkward kissing incident and everything else. He still hadn't disclosed himself to Misty, but she had forgotten about it. They were both adamant about kissing the person standing across from them. They are now only a few inches apart. Ash had his eyes closed and Misty had her eyes drifting shut. Ash and Misty then kissed for some time and then parted.
"PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ME! WE WANT TO MAKE A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!" The DJ exclaimed. He grinned and pressed closer to her. He quickly lost his lady, though, when the DJ kept playing.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a distinguished guest with a noteworthy announcement to make! Nobody other than Red, the Kanto champion, will unveil the first game of this tournament tonight! Red, would you kindly rise?" Misty's surprised eyes widened. She observed Ash make his way all the way to the front of the stage before shouting. "Who's game for some battle?" The crowd responded by applauding.
"That is correct! I'll be revealing the opening matchup of the competition tonight! The catch is that there must be two leaders, elites, or champions present tonight. We're kicking off this league in style! The future? Champion Iris and Champion Lance might square off! It might be me versus a member of my top team! We both have no idea, and it will all unfold right in front of our eyes." A wheel suddenly appeared on a big screen behind her.
As he snapped her fingers, he went to the wheel and said, "This wheel will select two trainers at random! Until the top 16, all battles are three on three battles with replacements and equipment allowed as well. And now, let's select our first challenger!" When the crowd recognised the people on both sides of the wheel, they cheered. Paul's face whizzed by on the left, followed by Clemont's on the right, as seen by Ash. Ash's eyes slightly widened as the wheel slowed. On the left, he noticed his face moving slowly toward him.
The audience witnessed it. Ash witnessed it. Misty undoubtedly witnessed it, too. The wheel came to a standstill on his left side. He was entering the first round, and he couldn't believe it. The crowd gasped in amazement as a loud noise that resembled whooshing was then heard. Ash observed what had taken place and the ensuing confrontation. Even so, the first battle would be intriguing.
Present …
More than a little astonished, Ash had been. He first comprehended the pairing before realising what he had just witnessed. He appeared destined to face off against someone. But as soon as the wheel came to a stop over him, it flared white, obscuring his image, and in an instant, his face had been replaced by a man's face. He had a smile on his face, long, dark hair, and dark eyes. He was immediately identified by Ash.
Paul, a member of his own elite, was there.
But his rival was just as fascinating. Although much older than him—likely by less than ten years—it was still another man. He had golden hair and had a serious demeanour. His pale blue eyes had the appearance of cutting straight to the core of the average person. Erika's eyes widened in shock as she approached. This opening round's location couldn't have been worse. She was aware of their mutual animosity. She really did love them both separately, but when these two were together, it was as if a switch had been flipped in both of their hearts.
Ash declared. "Folks, that's all there is to it! Gym Leader Paul of Kanto and Elite Volkner of Sinnoh will square off in the inaugural match of the tournament tomorrow at precisely 11 a.m. This legendary opening contest features two of the best trainers from each of their respective regions! Who will win the battle? Tomorrow, you all had better show up to see it!"
Misty, who had been grinning as she watched him, saw Ash slink off the stage. "I had no idea your voice was so strong," Ash laughed. "I'm afraid it comes with the job." She smiled and appeared to be thinking. "One of your elites is Paul. I'm hoping he succeeds."
Ash gave a nod. "You are correct. He is among the best. The good news is that although Volkner specialises in Electric kinds, Paul specialises in Dark types." Misty gave him a puzzled expression as she blinked and turned to look at Ash. "Um… Misty? Why is that advantageous? If I remember right, Electric Types don't have a type advantage over Dark Types."
Ash said with a smile. "Smart and appealing. I had a lot of luck tonight, didn't I?" She flushed. "Ash, you're right. But that's okay because the opposite is also true: Electric types do not benefit from the type advantage of Dark type moves. The game is fair as a result. Trainers alone, and Pokémon only, shall compete. It's the best kind of conflict." firmly stated Ash.
While this was going on, Misty was admiring Ash. 'I admire that mentality so much... That kind of mentality in battle, that fighting spirit.' She reflected. He gave him a small grin and extended his hand. She gave his hand a confused look as she blinked. He smiled. " Want to dance?"
A broad smile spread across her face as her eyes grew wide. He still desired to dance with her despite the fact that he had just declared the tournament open, assigned the first matchup, and spoken in front of a massive crowd that included some of the most well-known people in the world. He led her into the dance floor as she joyfully seized his hand.
Erika was attempting to heal in the meantime. What were the possibilities of this occurring? Volkner versus Paul? Like fire and water, the two of them couldn't stand each other. She was aware of how awful things may get. She would now need to choose a trainer to support.
She fixed her gaze upward at the enormous television display above her, which still displayed Volkner with a wicked grin on his face to the right and Paul with a bright smile on his face to the left. How would she make her decision? She was aware that there had been a very small possibility that this would have happened—like an astronomical probability—and yet it had. Now, she would have to decide who she wanted to win.
She had known them both for what felt like a very long time. While she had known Volkner for more than five years, she had known Paul for more than three years. Although she was more than just friends with Volkner, she was best friends with Paul. But how did she make her decision? She provided for them both in her own special way! She shook her head in disbelief and sat down. It was a miracle that the news broke while he appeared to have vanished. She required this time to think things through. She was aware of the decision she would have to make.
She had to decide between her lover and her best friend.
Misty's Hotel… Later that Night…
There were two people waiting outside Misty's door. The first was a man, the second a woman. Both were completely worn out, however one was a few inches taller than the other. The woman chuckled. "I must express my gratitude to you, Ash. That night was fantastic."
The man responded. " Only because you were present." She chuckled once more and muttered. "I believed at first that you were only asking me out because you needed a date to the dance, and to help you, I felt I should agree. But I'm serious." "I genuinely like you, Misty, and you also demonstrated that you like me," Ash said as he cautiously clasped her hands. With a sweet smile on his lips, he encircled her hand with care while grinning at her.
She whispered. " I... I have a query."
Red gave a nod. "Then that is?
Then, after a brief pause, she spoke. "In the near future, would you be open to hanging out again? Maybe the following day or so?" For as long as he had been silent, Ash remained silent. "I'd adore to, Misty." She seemed to perk up. "That's awesome!" When she finally calmed down and unexpectedly gave him a hug, Misty was greatly taken aback. "Even if you don't view the outside world in the same way when you are Red, I adore you very much."
Before gently answering, Red seemed to consider this for a brief period of time. "I guess that makes sense."
While encircling her waist, Misty turned to face him. "Thank you for asking me out tonight. I want us to get closer to one another gradually." She gave him a cheek kiss and spoke softly in his ear. "We can go there; nevertheless, I want to surprise you. Come by the following day at six. I'll track you down if you have a battle so we can reschedule. If not, please come when you're ready." She grinned at him, turned to enter her hotel room, and grinned at him one last time before shutting the door quietly. Ash secretly fist-pumped in the air as soon as she did. He was moving forward.
He felt especially fantastic as he flew back on Talonflame's back. It was the Misty she had been hoping to see, and he had been hoping for it. But she was bugging him in some way. With him, was she being sincere? Or did she simply make it up? Was she only interested in becoming "Red's Woman" for the fame and money? Or was she really fond of him? He shook his head and decided it would be best to let that internal dispute some time to sit. He didn't need to worry about it just now, after all, it was late at night, well beyond midnight. He smiled when she saw the mighty Pokémon league perched erect atop a hill above Indigo Plateau. He and Kanto had gone a long way, symbolised by the league and the Indigo Plateau.
He returned his devoted fire-type Pokémon after landing on his balcony and entered the league's common room shortly after, anticipating that it had been deserted. He received a bit of a surprise. Koga and Sabrina were seated nearby and were giving her stern stares. Ash was bewildered. "Why is that? How did I behave this time?"
Koga gave a shrug. "It's not what you did," he said.
Sabrina carried on. "There is just Erika. She's now going through a tough moment."
Ash muttered a curse. Of course! He had forgotten about the conflict with Volkner and Paul. Volkner was despised by Paul for whatever reason, and vice versa. The exact nature of their hatred for one another was never clear to him, but whatever it was, it was grave, and Paul would not discuss it with him or anyone else. Since discovering Volkner's identity, Paul has detested Erika's boyfriend of more than four years, Volkner. Either way, Erika had to decide whether to support Volkner, her lifelong partner who, unlike Paul, was very amiable to everyone, or Paul, her best friend in Kanto.
Even though Volkner was a touch strange, the other members of the elite all liked him. Nobody truly believed Paul when he argued that Volkner was not as good as people thought when he actually had no evidence to support his claims. Perhaps this explains why Volkner treated him so coldly? In Ash's opinion, it was just conjecture.
"You are correct. She is missing. And speaking of Paul, where is he?" Shaking her head, Sabrina. "Erika is attempting to sleep but probably failing. Paul is currently exercising outside rather than sleeping. They are both employing quite different strategies. Erika only wants to be left alone, but Paul is more determined than ever to defeat Volkner."
These three were aware of Volkner and Paul's animosity for one another, of course. Ash gave a frustrated head shake. Her elites' personal matters, and occasionally even his own, would annoy other elites. Sometimes this was done directly and other times it was done indirectly.
Ash talked serenely. "We are all aware that it is advisable to avoid meddling in the business of other elites. Paul is free to decide whether to train or take a break. Erika is free to decide if she wants to discuss it with her friends or stay by herself. Furthermore, the battle is tomorrow AM regardless. It makes little difference because they will both eventually have to come out. Since tomorrow is an early day, let's get some rest."
Koga nodded before departing with his fellow champion and elite to go to his lodgings. After quietly saying, "Good Night," Sabrina turned around and left. After a further pause or two, Ash slowly made her way to his bedroom, his thoughts racing. Unbelievably, he wasn't thinking about the rivalry between Paul and Volkner. His focus was wholly elsewhere.
Flashback…
Ash said to her "These are the only six Pokemons that I have. Let me see who are still with me!" and Misty replied "I would love to see them!" Ash threw six Pokeballs and then he saw the Pokemons. They were Gible, Bulbasaur, Quillava, Oshawott, Staraptor, and Talonflame.
Ash smiled at them "It has been some time since we met. I have something unfortunate to say. My companions except for the girl, Misty to the right, took the rest of my Pokemons and thied to throw me and you all in the magma. However, Steven managed to save us and so we are all together!"
The Pokemons were looking furious on hearing that and Ash then said "We all, me and Misty would have our revenge." and the Pokemons smiled on hearing that. Misty remarked "Oshawott looks very cute!" and Oshawott smiled on hearing that. Ash replied "He indeed is cute. By the way, it is sad to hear that you lost all your Pokemons."
Misty replied on hearing that "I am no longer thinking of training only Water types, I would like to train all types of Pokemons. I will like to fight my way and become the Champion of Kanto region even if I am not a Gym Leader. Yes, I also will try to become a Pokemon Master."
Ash smiled on hearing that "It looks like I got a new rival. We can train with each other and make sure that we will become stronger from fighting each other. Misty, you have no Pokemons so I would like to know whether you will get a Starter Pokemon and Pokedex from a Professor."
Misty replied "I would like to get Torchic as my Starter Pokemon as Blaziken is a cool Pokemon to have. It also shouldhave the hidden ability Speed Boost. However, if Torchic does not want to evolve, I would be fine with that. I will start from Kanto so I would get the Pokedex and Starter Pokemon from there. If Professor Oak is a traitor, he would not recognise me." Ash then said "I would start my journey from Sinnoh and get a Piplup from Professor Rowan along with a Pokedex."
Ash then said "We need to disguise ourselves as we are assumed to be dead. I think I will use a brown dye to make my hair brown. Also, I would wear red shirt when travelling." Misty said "I would also use a brown dye and use a black dress. What should we use as names?"
Ash said "I would use Red as my name." and Misty smiled and said "I will use Green as my name." Ash then said "That could have been a problem but my plan is to train as hard as possible and only reveal myself when the Pokemon World Tournament takes place."
Ash then asked Misty "Have you spoken with your sisters?" and Misty replied "No, I have not spoken to them since I supposedly died. They seem to not have mourned me based on what I know." Ash then said "I expected my mother to have mourned me a lot but she has not mourned me a lot."
Misty then said "We both have each other, and Cynthia and Steven to support us. Let us focus on become stronger. I will help you to train and I hope you will help me." and Ash nodded and said "I will help you in whatever ways to make you stronger as a Pokemon trainer."
Misty then despondently said "You are one of the strongest trainers, compared to you, I am not so strong. Could I ever become as strong as you?" and Ash replied "I have just six Pokemons and they have not taken part in World Coronation Series. Still, I would help your new team to be as strong as my Pokemons. Misty, you can be strong like me as a Pokemon trainer." Misty then smiled and said "Thanks, Ash!" and Ash replied "You are welcome!"
Cynthia then rushed to Ash and said "I suggest you start with Gible as your starter Pokemon. Gible is an excellent starter Pokemon as I know my Gible helped me." to which Ash smiled and said "I will use all six Pokemons I have as my starter Pokemons, thanks for the advice!" and Cynthia then said "Six starter Pokemons, that is interesting! I will help you to be as strong as me rapidly, I feel like having more stronger trainers is a good thing as I will have more rivals then."
Ash then said "Thank You, Cynthia, I know I can be stronger myself but it is always better to collaborate and so I accept your help." and Misty then said "I will also accept your help to be a stronger trainer."
Steven then came to them and asked "Could you tell how you two supposedly died?" and Ash and Misty narrated the incidents to Steven and Cynthia. Steven and Cynthia were getting furious as they heard the story and Cynthia was disappointed that the companions of Ash whom she met turned to be such traitors.
Steven asked "Do you want to reveal yourselves to the world?" and Ash replied "We both could again fall into danger if we reveal ourselves to the world. We would reveal ourselves after the Pokemon World Tournament as by then we would be strong enough to defend ourselves." Misty then added "I agree with Ash's reasoning and till then, we would train ourselves."
Cynthia then said "You both would be identified if you use your trainer licenses to travel." and Misty said "We both would take new names and reveal ourselves to Pokemon Professors to get new trainer licenses." and Ash nodded and said "I would say my name as Red to Professor Rowan to get a trainer license and Misty would say her name is Green to Professor Oak to get a trainer license."
Present… the following day… Kanto Battle Stadium…
The crowd was moving quickly. Various goods and items were being sold at shops. Of course, the stadium itself was the location with the most activity. It was cutting edge. The stadium was created to resemble a huge bowl. Given that it could accommodate so many people, Wattson believed it to be ideal. The overall maximum capacity is more than 100,000. There were a variety of activities hosted there, but some of its best characteristics were ones that some fans never even noticed.
The ray shield was that characteristic. Ash insisted that Wattson establish a high-tech ray shield to safeguard the walls and ceiling from all forms of attacks because he was aware of the amount of damage that would be done if numerous high-end battles were to take place there.
Ash was secretly thanking his fortunate stars as he sat down for making them install the ray shields. He was aware that Volkner and Paul would fight valiantly today, and that although though the stadium was new and had already seen several difficult battles, this was maybe the most difficult conflict it would ever encounter. Volkner, who was standing to Ash's left, had a slight grin on his face that showed how self-assured he was. Of course, the obstinate Paul was standing to his right. He had a very different appearance from Volkner: He was laser-focused and determined to win.
Ash was seated in his exclusive box with his elites. Misty could feel Erika's anxiousness because she was acting strangely. Her normally calm manner had been replaced by one that was tense, fearful, and frightened. Sabrina was trying to console Erika, and Misty was aware that she had never been this way. To Ash, Koga whispered. "It's going to fly, fella. These two will engage in battle as if it were their final encounter."
Ash gave a nod of agreement. "You are correct in that. Erika is what worries me the most. She's going to suffer from this battle."
Erika was in fact really upset. She had had trouble falling asleep. Never did these two get along. And now, in addition to those watching on live television, they would be battling in front of more than 100,000 spectators. Volkner and Paul, whom she knew, appeared to be identical. They both possessed cool, collected demeanour; unlike Koga, it was difficult to agitate them. But for some reason, the two of them simply detested one another. She'd never figured it out.
Across the field of battle, Volkner yelled. "Wow, Paul Try to avoid making mistakes during this battle; we wouldn't want any mishaps, now would we?" Paul grimaced. Volkner exuded greater assurance than usual. " Volkner, if anyone is having accidents, it will be you. We'll look into that". Replying, he screamed.
"So it is? Delusional as usual, I guess. You know, pretending that I was unaware of your existence was like putting a tiny bandage on a cankerous wound; it was neither pleasant nor... in the slightest degree... effective." He laughed. Paul retaliated. "I didn't have a field day pretending I didn't know you, you know."
Volkner mocked. "Oh, kindly... as if anyone could not find me attractive... Consider your dear Erika as an example..." On the sidelines, Erika shrugged her shoulders as Paul snarled. Pavel and Paul. Water and Fire. Cold and hot. It wasn't important. They simply didn't mesh.
The pregame had had enough for the referee. "Gym Leader Volkner of Sinnoh and Elite Four Paul of Kanto are engaged in this battle! Three on three; replacements are permitted in this match. In addition, Pokémon may not use items during this battle. Elite Paul will always arrive first and make the initial move, per rule. Volkner will have the second move and show second. The tournament's second round will be reached by the victor of this match. The loser is going home. Trainers available?" He shouted and raised both flags.
"LET THE FIRST BATTLE COMMENCE!" Paul shouted out in a magnificent manner while pulling out a pokeball. " Role call, Drapion!" 'Galvantula, shock and awe!" Volkner screamed while clutching a pokeball. The hybrid of an insect and an electric type took the field with a cry of its name and got ready for the most significant conflict of its existence. When the black and poisonous Pokémon saw its rival, it lined up opposite and growled loudly.
The Kanto Elites in the audience, meanwhile, reacted differently. Sabrina made a public remark. "Volkner had selected a Pokemon that is both a secret weapon and has a type advantage. I'm curious to see how this battle develops."
Koga casually made the observation. "Yeah, but in any case, Volkner shouldn't have been surprised to learn that Paul would likely use Drapion. Additionally, if he is exceptionally focused, he can defeat Drapion without benefiting from a type advantage." Ash and Erika remained silent as they saw the start of the first battle. Once more raising both flags, the referee screamed. "BATTLE BEGINS!"
The opening play of the competition was called out by Volkner. "Begin with Electroweb, Galvantula!" When the opposition Pokémon approached, Galvantula charged up what looked to be an electric spider web and threw it at them. Paul laughed. "Drapion, use Slash to cut through it!" As it swung around and cut through the onslaught like sandpaper, Drapion's arms became white.
"It's now our turn to go on the attack! Employ Fire Fang!" Drapion quickly charged the beetle, which had a burning mouth. Volkner was equipped. "Now! Board Drapion's back now!" Galvantula's sudden disappearance caught Drapion off guard as it tightened its grip. Before it could respond, it returned on its back. "Electroweb!" Drapion was unable to dodge the attack at close range; as a result, he was severely injured by the Electric type move and experienced a speed decrease as a side effect.
Paul grimaced. "Drapion! To better navigate the field, use your clash! Up till you catch it, use fire fang!"
Drapion nodded before quickly lunging towards Galvantula by sinking its pincers into the dirt. commanded Volkner. "Spring forward and utilise Thunderbolt!" Once more, the incredibly efficient motion failed, causing the insect to leap into the air and shoot a huge, angular bolt of lightning. Paul scowled. Currently, things weren't going as planned. The head of the Sinnoh gym was not at all pleased that Volkner appeared ready to face him.
"Use Agility, Galvantula!" Around Drapion, the bug and electric mixture started to emerge and vanish at random while he was unable to locate it. Paul grew drab, and Volkner grinned. Both of them were aware that he was lagging behind. Erika made a small frown. While Paul lacked confidence, Volkner exuded it. What was happening? Then, she noticed it.
Volkner recognised a chance. "Get it! Give it another Electroweb by holding onto its back!" Paul laughed. 'Around time.'
"Now! On the left! Take it!" The bug type was completely immobilised after Drapion quickly turned its body around 180 degrees and caught it up with one of its claws. The stunned crowd sent out gasps. The situation had changed. Volkner grew pale; he had overlooked Drapion's might! He couldn't handle this. Paul made everything worse. "Toxic!"
The electric and bug type was hit with a massive purple blob, which when it connected, poisoned it severely. Volkner swore, but Paul was still unfinished. "Throw it away and apply Venoshock!" Drapion launched the little bug-like creature into the air and launched another poisonous attack at its foe. Volkner understood he couldn't allow such action to succeed. He screamed. "Galvantula, get your bearings and spin away!"
Galvantula was able to whirl in the air and avoid the move that would have dealt a tonne of damage just before it struck. It touched the ground precisely. Despite Drapion's slower pace, Volkner knew he couldn't employ physical attacks. "Signal Beam!" Galvantula directed a laser that resembled a rainbow at the dark type.
"Drapion! Launch yourself above the beam with your tail, then use Venoshock while you're in the air!" When Volkner witnessed Drapion dodge Galvantula's attack and shoot a purple blast towards his Pokémon, his eyes widened. "Prevent it!"
Volkner then realised his error, and Paul knew he had Volkner in a corner. Galvantula wanted to leap, but Drapion was still in the air. The issue was that Venoshock had been launched over Galvantula's head rather than directly at it, trapping it instead. Galvantula was compelled to move in that direction, toward Drapion. Paul fired his weapon. "Fire Fang!"
Galvantula was utterly caught off guard when Drapion struck from overhead, ramming into it and sending it reeling backward. "Oh No! Galvantula!" Volkner wept. Paul bellowed. "Venoshock!" After that command, the land was engulfed in a massive explosion. As the smoke cleared, Volkner hid his eyes and groaned. Drapion and Paul were still standing. Galvantula was found unconscious and seated at the bottom of the pile when all the smoke had cleared.
"Drapion triumphs because Galvantula is unable to fight." Paul continued to nod to himself a couple times as the audience erupted. He saw this as routine as clockwork. Volkner clenched his teeth. Galvantula was already poisoned, therefore the move dealt absurdly high damage. The poor bug type had no chance when you combine it with the fire fang.
Ash and his elites responded differently in the meantime. whistled Koga. "Whoa… First Pokémon Volkner had was defeated by Paul. That's quite remarkable."
Nodding, Sabrina. "You may repeat that."
Ash gave a shrug. " Wasn't really all that impressive." With the exception of Erika, her elites regarded her with confusion. " What are you saying?" Ash made a mention. "If I didn't know any better, I'd assume Paul was trying to boost Volkner's self-esteem in order to entice him. You wouldn't expect a Pokémon like Drapion to be that physically robust, yet it is. Paul might have been betting on it because Drapion is uncommon around here in Kanto. Whatever the case, it turned out in his favour."
Paul chuckled. "That is how a battle should begin! As usual, Drapion, a fantastic battle!" As it prepared for its upcoming opponent, Drapion yelled its name and assumed a combat stance. Volkner yelled while clutching his next pokeball. " Zebstrika, shock and awe!" The electric zebra entered the field and yelled loudly in its name. Ash was confused. Ash was left wondering why Zebstrika was absent after witnessing what Drapion had just done to his Galvantula. His time to come up with a solution was short. 'Ah, that must be related to his final Pokémon.' He gave herself a small nod.
Paul signalled the start of the action. "Use Toxic, Drapion!" A purple blob was fired by the dark and poisonous kind toward the electric zebra. Volkner retaliated. "Prove your speed to them! Avoid it, then get ready for Wild Charge!" Zebstrika rushed toward the attack before abruptly juking to the left to avoid it. Paul made the decision to cut off the electricity flowing from the animal before it could gain too much power.
"Use Slash to counter it right away!" Volkner's eyes twinkled as Drapion charged at Zebstrika. He was searching for that, after all! "Come on, Zebstrika! Wild Charge, stop!" Zebstrika stopped moving right away, letting Drapion charge at it. Paul, though, was totally perplexed. Since Zebstrika were native to Unova and he had already encountered a fair number of them, he knew he couldn't rely on Static because it was impossible for Zebstrika to possess that power. What was it then?
Finding out didn't take very long. " Utilize Ion Deluge!" Drapion believed it had completely crushed Zebstrika's body when the next thing it knew, it was slashing at Zebstrika with all the force it could muster. It blinked in astonishment as it gained a clear look of his rival. Zebstrika was uninjured at all!
"Hm? This is what?" Paul wondered out loud, perplexed. Smiling, Volkner. "You're going to learn something that you won't like! Thunder Wave!" Zebstrika left and then reappeared by Drapion's side before Paul had a chance to blink.
"On the left! Take it!" Drapion stretched out to grab Zebstrika, but was taken off guard as it completely missed due to Zebstrika's overwhelming speed. Then, as Zebstrika rendered the poison type incapacitated, it howled in misery. Paul clenched his teeth; Volkner's Pokémon were all moving really quickly! He called out while hissing. "Toxic!" Drapion calculated a position before executing the motion. It easily missed without issuing a command.
"Use Wild Charge!" Paul yelled out in a slightly frantic manner as Zebstrika rushed Drapion. "Swing your arms out of the path to get away!" With Paralysis, there was, however, no way to get around it. Drapion was launched across the battlefield as a result of Zebstrika's roar and collision with it. It fell in front of Paul, who was completely taken aback.
"Drapion is..." The referee started but was interrupted when Drapion yelled and stood up. Volkner was taken off guard, and Paul recognised an opportunity to profit from the circumstance. "Quick! Apply Toxic!" It took a step back before launching the move, which was precisely aligned with Zebstrika. Naturally, paralysis then struck again, causing it to lose focus and halt the motion.
'Shit,' Paul muttered.
"Complete it! Launch Façade!" Paul's eyes widened in shock. If the attack connected, it would definitely knock Drapion out. He screamed. "Quick! Bring on the Venoshock!" This time, Drapion managed to attack. As Zebstrika charged it, Drapion hit it with a poison-type move, causing Zebstrika to completely lose focus and roll out of façade. Volkner muttered an angry snarl. "Get up and give it another go!" Zebstrika rushed forward with Façade ready to fire.
"Slash!" Instantaneously, a massive explosion covered the field. But everyone in the crowd was already aware of the outcome. Nobody had even seen Drapion initiate the manoeuvre. When everything was said and done, it became clear that their eyes had not deceived them. Drapion had swirls in its eyes and was sleeping on its stomach not far from Paul. The official's flag was raised. "Zebstrika prevails because Drapion is unable to fight!"
Volkner pumped his fist. "Oh, absolutely! That is the proper method!"
Ash was taken aback. He outthought Paul there, however, to be completely honest, 'I doubt he's ever heard of Ion Deluge.'
Paul wasn't scared to ask questions about what he had just witnessed as he returned his fallen Pokémon to the battlefield. "Would you indulge me in your method?"
Volkner clarified with a shrug. "All regular type moves momentarily change into electric type moves when the move Ion Deluge is used. You struck Zebstrika with the normal type move Slash when I utilised that move. It reduced all harm and increased his speed by—" Paul cut him off. "Lightning Rod. Then, using your increased speed, you stunned Drapion before killing it with Façade. That warfare strategy is really effective. But let's see if Volkner can manage this. Role call, Liepard!" The purple cat occupied the space next to the zebra. The two Pokémon stared at one another. Paul and Volkner exchanged frowns as they got ready to go on.
Erika…
'What on earth are these two doing? Why do these two despise one another when they're at their best? Paul was the most serious person I've ever seen, and Volkner was the most driven. Even worse, until someone eventually collapses, their Pokémon will endure a battering.' She paused before shaking her head.
She had been struggling to make up her mind on who to support since last night. She cared deeply about both of them, but she was aware that if she supported one, the other would react negatively. She was unable to support either side as a result. Volkner would always try to persuade her that Paul wasn't the proper man for her, and Paul would always try to persuade her that she needed to put Volkner behind her.
How on earth did she decide between them? She couldn't betray either of them because they each had particular places in her heart. Therefore, the best side to support was neutrality.
Battlefield…
"Start with Aerial Ace, Liepard!" Zebstrika was attacked by the purple cat as it prepared to use a flying-style manoeuvre. Volkner retaliated. "Wild Charge!" The two assaults met and competed for supremacy. Aerial Ace was ultimately defeated by Wild Charge, sending Liepard flying backwards and lying on its stomach in the middle of the battlefield. The Kanto natives applauded for their elite.
Paul grimaced. This Zebstrika was undoubtedly a bother. But then he had a thought. Although it was a little douchey, the play was legitimate. He gave an order while waving his hand to the side. " Utilize Taunt, Liepard!" Volkner squinted in disbelief as the taunt was directed at his Electric-Type. That wasn't so horrible. He was very positive that Liepard didn't know any moves of the conventional variety, and because of its ability Limber, it couldn't be paralysed.
"What was Paul trying to do with that?" Volkner said, perplexed. Paul moved quickly to act.
"Liepard, come back!" When Paul yelled, Volkner's eyes widened a little. "Krookodile! Game On! Employ Earthquake!"
If Krookodile was Volkner's final Pokémon, Ash gasped in horror. Volkner was in serious trouble. Unsurprisingly, the red alligator entered the fray and instantly used one of the most dreaded ground-based techniques. The middle of the field was blanketed by an explosion as a result. Volkner frowned as he observed his devoted electric type still standing despite panting heavily and writhing under the force of the assault.
He suddenly understood how few options he had at this point. Krookodile would probably be able to use a free move on his starter Pokémon if he switched. He had to stop that from happening, but if he kept Zebstrika inside, he would be defenceless. He couldn't use any status condition moves while Taunt was still active, eliminating already half of his rotation. Being a ground type meant that Wild Charge was ineffective, leaving Façade. If only Taunt weren't in effect...
"Zebstrika! Run in and use Façade to attack from all angles! Keep an earthquake at bay!" Volkner could do nothing else but make this move, which was unfortunate for him because Paul anticipated it and prepared a strategy for it.
"Foul Play Time!" Ash looked away after hearing that order because he realised the conflict was done. He wasn't mistaken. Zebstrika was being attacked when Krookodile seized it, and while it resisted, it instantly launched the potent dark type move. Zebstrika wasn't able to stand up after being slammed to the ground. It would also not be moved any time soon.
"Zebstrika is unable to fight; Krookodile triumphs!" Zebstrika was easily and quickly defeated by Paul's most powerful Pokémon, at least against electric types, while the entire stadium roared raucously. Koga made a public remark. "Volkner lost that round because he couldn't think on his feet at the time. He must maintain continual concentration. Now, his best Pokémon is everything in the competition."
Erika eventually made her first speech. "Yes, Paul will prevail. I am confident that he is." The other three people in the box stared at her in complete disbelief as they tried to process what they had just heard: words. When she realised she had been eerily silent for a very long time, she blinked and stared at them. She spoke while blushing. "W-what? Concentrate on the battle, not on me!" She stood up for herself. As the other three turned their heads away from her one by one, she at last exhaled what she had allegedly been holding in. 'Come on, Paul... I'm confident you can triumph,' she thought.
Back on the field, Volkner was looking at his devoted companion, who was grinning. Paul casually handed Krookodile back and replied, sounding perplexed. "Shinji, I genuinely expected more from you. What's happening with you right now? Give me a fight, please!"
When it was her turn, Zeraora entered the arena and took a position in the middle of the trainers, facing Paul's Liepard. "If you want a fight, I'll start a fight for you!" Paul grinned a little while Zeroara assumed a combat stance.
"Liepard, use taunt!" The taunt on Zeraora had the same effect it had on Zebstrika. However, it wouldn't matter this time. If all went according to plan, Volkner had a strategy to defeat this Liepard in just two moves. "On the ground, use Plasma Fists! Let loose!" What followed could only be seen in movies. Zeraora screamed a loud battle cry, rose both of its glowing light blue arms, and slammed the earth with all of its might in one powerful motion.
It was a breathtaking sight for observers. Liepard was directly in the path of a fissure that was caused by an explosion, blue electricity, and rocks, but he was entranced by the sight and didn't even attempt to move out of the way. When the move connected, Koga exclaimed, "Hell Yeah!" The crowd gasped in amazement as Liepard was launched through the air shortly after an explosion blanketed the area. Misty grinned. "Seeing manoeuvres like that will never grow old to me."
In an effort to focus again, Liepard crashed into the ground. It was on the verge of passing out, but it was still allowing Paul one last manoeuvre. But Volkner wouldn't let it happen. "Complete it. Use Close Combat !" When Zeraora punched or kicked Liepard, the latter yelled out in agony each time the blow struck. Zeraora connected with Liepard for ten solid seconds before unleashing one final, powerful cry and hitting it square in the head.
Liepard was struck severely unconscious and out for the count after being launched violently backwards, performing a front flip, and landing on its face. Call was made by the referee. "Liepard is unable to fight; Zeraora triumphs!" Volkner received a cheer from the audience, which he shyly acknowledged.
Erika's shock was too great to contain. "But how? His Pokémon scarcely suffered any harm at all! How was Liepard defeated so quickly?"
Ash chuckled. "It is the connection Volkner and Zeraora have. Their sacred power is this. Have you forgotten to do that?" Erika replied while blinking in confusion. " But that would imply that he is standing up for a loved one, but who?" When she wasn't looking, Ash grinned a little. She was surprisingly uninteresting when it came to Volkner for such a gorgeous and clever person.
Paul gave a bitter nod before calling out his devoted partner once they were back on the battlefield. Sabrina made a mention. "They each used two of their four available moves. What dance moves are known by each of them?"
Referee made an announcement. "This is the match's concluding contest. The victor of this match advances, while the loser is dropped. Battle is begun!"
Volkner cried out. "Prepare yourself for anything!"
Ordered by Paul. "Outrage!" With a loud growl, Krookodile charged at the electric type. commanded Volkner. "Leave, escape!" Zeraora followed instructions. commanded Paul. "Again!" Volkner said with calm. Simply keep going. Krookodile, who was irritated by Zeraora's agility, watched as the Pokémon evaded him once more. But after a few period of missing, Krookodile abruptly came to a stop.
It started to stagger back and forth, indicating that it was bewildered. Volkner wasted little time in moving on. "Quickly! Apply Bulk Up!" Zeraora's attack and defence increased once, then twice as Paul scowled a little. Krookodile stopped stumbling after the second attempt and comprehended what had gone wrong. Loudly, Paul said.
"Earthquake!" With a loud roar, Krookodile started to tremble the ground. Volkner was aware of this strategy and was aware of how to fight it. " Use Close Combat and jump across the rocks." Paul's eyes widened in horror as Zeraora leapt athletically across the trembling rocks toward Krookodile, poised to strike it with a swift blow. Paul's eyes suddenly widened: A plan!
"Now! Foul Play!" Volkner's eyes widened in shock. "Oh No! Away from there!" Past due. Krookodile seized its leg and threw it into the crowd, falling with a terrible crunch as Zeraora turned to hear the scream of dread. Krookodile wasn't quite done. Zeraora was violently swinging around and over before being smacked twice more into the rocks below it. Paul screamed as Zeraora was then launched into the air. "Outrage!"
It appeared that Zeraora had no prospect of success. It was obvious to all of them that Zeraora was being mistreated by the potent dragon-like move. The Sinnoh supporters were shouting loudly while the Kanto followers were strangely silent. Volkner spun in terror as Zeraora delivered one last strike that sent her flying into the wall behind him. The spectators watched in disbelief as they anticipated learning the fate of Volkner's final Pokémon.
Zeraora eventually dropped to the earth after a little period. After a brief pause, it gently climbed to its feet. The fact that it was panting heavily, nevertheless, was undeniable. Sabrina still couldn't believe it, though. " How on earth could Zeraora endure Krookodile's punishment?" Ash shrugged in response. "Many factors. Zeraora is Volkner's most trained Pokémon, and since Foul Play is a dark type move, it is only somewhat effective in the first place. Outrage is strong, but keep in mind that Bulk up increases both Attack and Defense, negating the effects of both Foul play and Outrage more."
"Zeraora, utilise Bulk up once more!" commanded Volkner. While panting, Zeraora followed its trainer's instructions and increased attack and defence once again before Krookodile recovered from its surprise. Shaking his head, Ash. "That was the incorrect action to do." Paul did, in fact, realise it as well. "Krookodile, get your act together and utilise Earthquake right away!"
As if by magic, Krookodile heard its trainers' cry, awoke from its daze, and then let forth a powerful roar that shook the earth. Even Ash was perplexed by what transpired next.
The entire stadium, including Volkner's own box of elites, gasped in amazement when they heard "Plasma Fist's on the ground." Erika found it hard to accept what he had just ordered. Koga remained silent, merely staring at his close buddy in astonishment. "Is he crazy? There's no way it will work! Why not just escape the entire attack?" was written on his face. After a little interval, Ash abruptly said. "Hold on, maybe it's not the worst idea after all,"
His premier box shouted in shock, "HUH?"
Zeraora cried out and jumped up when she was back on the field. It formed the same electric rift it had previously created as it slammed its arms into the earth while its fists continued to glow. Then, the most amazing thing took place. The ground in front of it was blown apart by the electric explosion, clearing a direct path to Krookodile, its intended victim. The stadium let out a shocked and startled gasp. Paul found it difficult to believe what had transpired.
Volkner bellowed. "Now! Close Combat !" With a powerful shout and a sudden appearance in front of Krookodile, Zeroara launched an adrenaline-fueled attack. The stadium grew louder and louder as Krookodile was hit more frequently. The Kanto Natives began roaring as they chanted. "Zer-aor-a! Zer-aor-a! Zer-aor-a!" Paul started working on an escape strategy in a desperate attempt to win the war. Foul Play! To everyone's surprise, it succeeded. Even with all the damage it was receiving, Krookodile was able to focus enough to counter Zeraora and fling the electric type into the distance. Zeraora landed forcefully and slowly stood up.
But Krookodile had suffered greatly as a result of the action. Close Combat inflicted a ridiculous amount of damage to Krookodile when combined with the numerous occasions that Bulk up had been performed, and it was clear how much damage each of them had taken. Despite being pounded and battered, neither the ground type nor the electric kind would give up.
However, Volkner and Paul could sense that the conflict was drawing to a close. The fight was expected to be won by whoever delivered the next blow that was most decisive. As they peered into each other's eyes, they realised how much they would ultimately despise one another. They both yelled out at the same time. "Outrage!" "Close Combat"
Despite colliding, neither of the two attacks yielded to the other. It ended shortly after that. They were both heavily perspiring, battered, and hurt. While Krookodile appeared to be on the edge of collapsing due to Outrage, it also appeared like Zeraora would collapse at any minute.
But Volkner recognised his chance. "Zeraora! Again, use Close Combat!" Knowing that if that move connected, Krookodile would be destroyed, Paul's eyes widened. However, he was lucky at that specific time. Zeraora took two strides forward before collapsing on the ground from the injuries it had incurred earlier. It took some time for it to feel better before it was able to push itself to its feet and resume fighting. Krookodile had also recovered from his uncertainty at this point.
"Zeraora…"
"Krookodile…"
"Let's Complete This!" At the same time, they both yelled. "Hyper Beam!" As they both prepared for the ultimate move, they both started charging the large beam. The entire crowd, who could see that Zeraora and Krookodile were both about to pass out, was concerned for their wellbeing. Erika was upset by the knowledge that both of these Pokémon had been pushed to the utmost brink for Volkner and Paul and that she could see how hurt and damaged both of their Pokémon were.
She finally reached her breaking point. "YOU BOTH STOP!" Regardless of how distant she was from the actual battle, they both turned to face her after hearing her voice and immediately recognised her. "What are you doing to your Pokémon? They have sacrificed all! Stop right away! If you fall short, no one will hold it against you! Yet despite their injuries, you continue to push them!" She started crying at them, drawing everyone's attention to her.
Paul took a moment to ponder his devoted companion before realising what a terrible error he had made. He realised how hurt his spouse was and realised his mistake. He had been so consumed by his hatred for Volkner that he had been prepared to sacrifice his own partner's health in order to defeat him.
Volkner, meanwhile, continued to stare in terror at his companion. When he noticed the bruises all over Krookodile, he understood that it had probably given all, and nothing could reverse that. He continued to demand more despite knowing that this battle was already done and that both Pokémon had given everything they had. Guilt overcame him.
"Please! PLEASE! Stop the battle! Please!" Erika wept.
Volkner and Paul had their eyes locked across the battlefield. Neither of them appeared ready to break the eye contact first or want to be the first to give in.
But someone did in the end.
Paul said. "Krookodile, halt this assault. You put your all into it. We must check you in at the Pokémon centre." The dark type stopped charging the attack and turned to face his trainer with a faint smile on his face as if to thank him for preventing it from fighting any longer. Paul told his partner that he did a terrific job and didn't need to fight, and the audience roared.
Volkner grinned a little. Zeroara roared and unleashed the assault on a completely defenceless Krookodile, saying, "Hate to end things this reunion, but if you're not a winner, you're a loser!" Volkner had told his Pokémon to attack a weak Pokémon, and the entire crowd let out a shocked cry. Paul ran into the battlefield and pushed himself in front of Krookodile as his eyes dilated in shock. As an explosion engulfed the field, Erika shrieked. "Paul!"
With a horrified expression on his face, Ash was getting up and peering over the railing that was keeping them from falling. Erika was sobbing furiously on the floor, and Koga and Sabrina were trying to calm her down. Knowing that he had just heeded to her cries and been murdered by the opposing Pokémon, she repeatedly cried his name.
The official's flag was raised. "Krokodile is powerless to" When he noticed a faint green glow emanating from within the smoke and dust, he abruptly stopped speaking. The crowd then erupted in applause when the smoke and dust completely disappeared.
Ash grinned with relief. Krookodile certainly chose an excellent moment to learn that.
Erika stood up and gasped as she peered over the edge. Paul was staring at his buddy in disbelief as Krookodile surrounded itself and them both with a large ray shield. While tears were still running down her face, she shouted with joy. "Krokodile discovered Protect!"
Zeraora took down the shield as Paul beamed at his devoted companion. "I'm grateful, Krookodile. You saved me." Nodding, Krookodile. "Ro!" it exclaimed.
He then made his way back to his side of the field and assumed a fighting position. Krookodile, let's complete this. His Pokémon appeared to have gained a third wind and was prepared for anything. Paul bellowed. "At this point, we unite!" He crossed his arms, started punching in front of him, ended in a commanding position, and roared. "Show off your abilities!"
Just when Krookodile was about to strike Zeraora, who was astonished, when he cried out, Paul exclaimed. "All-Out Pummeling! Complete it!"
The bright explosion covered the battleground. Ash whooped in delight as smoke and dust came out of the Z-move. Koga fixed his gaze downward as he awaited the outcome. It was miraculous that Krookodile was still standing. It appeared as though a gust of wind was about to suddenly topple it. While the crowd anticipated what would happen when the cat was covered in many explosions, Volkner prayed in silence for a miracle.
The referee must have noticed something when he gazed into the smoke because he raised his hand and made an announcement. "Krookodile prevails because Zeroara is unable to fight! Paul Shinji, who represents Kanto, is the victor of this conflict and the trainer moving on to the following round!"
Sabrina screamed and stood up. "YES!" Following suit, the entire audience cheered after the fantastic first duel. Paul sighed in relief as he knelt to his knees. He quickly hurried over to his devoted companion and started medicating him, making sure he would be good to transport to the Pokémon Center. Volkner was stunned by his defeat; he was so near! His hopes of winning the competition were now over because he came close to eliminating his opponent once and for all. He didn't know where he would be without Erika, but at least she was still there.
"Ahem." Surprisingly, Red was standing next to him with an expressionless face when he turned around. He silently remarked while placing a hand on Volkner's shoulder. "After you, proceed out the doors. Tell him Red sent you and take the first right you come to. Don't doubt it." The referee was then approached by him as he made his way there.
Despite his perplexity, Volkner followed instructions and went to the doors where he entered. He was asked to travel there for what reason? There needed to be a justification. Volkner had ordered a move that some may consider to be a cheap shot, therefore there was just a little applause as he left the stadium. He simply ignored it. He had to control his emotions, yet he had still fallen short. Even if he made a point of not letting Paul win, it still happened.
He entered by the door that was closest to his right. He held a pokeball on his belt with caution as the place was somewhat dark. The lights turned on after it banged shut. The remainder of the Red's elites, with the exception of Paul, were all standing there, which more than a little startled him. But he only talked to one of them. "Erika! Darling! I'm delighted to— "He went up to give her a hug but got hit upside the cheek instead.
She hit him, and he stumbled back, rubbing the injury. Her eyes were teary.
"This is what it came to, then? What do you do when Paul and you are fighting over me in public? You choose to attack a helpless Pokémon with one of the most lethal attacks ever created as your first deed to win our affection and demonstrate your "Unwavering Loyalty, Sincerity, and Dedication" to us?"
Volkner sighed, 'This is not good.' I made a mistake, "M-my love," SMACK. The charm is back twice. Once more stumbling, his stunned eyes became even wider. With tears rolling down her cheeks, she nodded. "Mistake? Yeah, I made one too. That was picking you over Paul. He's always been there for me, telling me what a terrible companion you were."
She snorted and growled indignantly. "I always stood up for you when he said you were just selfish, and I didn't believe him."
Volkner flinched. "But that's not true," Koga made a sideways pointing motion. " What precisely do you refer to what we just seen, then?" Volkner gave Koga a sneer. "Ninja, get out of this. I'm making an effort to talk to my girlfriend."
"You were." Erika hissed.
Volkner returned her gaze. "Good, then let's go on."
She shook her head while crying, a gorgeous expression on her face. "I was with you, not someone else. I was your companion at the time." Volkner blinked and then burst out laughing. The Kanto Elites kept their faces expressionless as they observed him. When he was at last quiet, he laughed and said. "You? Leave me? I must not have heard that correctly. Are you positive that's the wisest move to make?"
Paul suddenly entered the space with a perplexed expression on his face. When Koga recognised his dear friend, his eyes glowed, and Sabrina grinned at him. When Volkner saw the boy with the dark hair enter the room, he widened his eyes in rage. Erika, on the other hand, was grinning mischievously, as all of her friends and elites had come to expect.
She approached Volkner directly and grinned as she spoke to him. She asked, "How's this for sure?" and kicked him right between the legs, causing him to grab the space between his legs and wheeze in agony. He groaned in agony as he struggled mightily to stifle the pain that was piercing his private region.
Erika continued as Paul grinned. "And how certain is this?" She took hold of Paul's hand. Volkner appeared to be watching a bus that was about to hit him. Koga's eyes widened in utter disbelief. Sabrina's jaw fell in disbelief at Erika's audacity.
She released his hand after a little while and turned to face Paul, who was covered in a deep flush. With a foolish grin plastered on his face and a fading flush, he replied, "If I had known it was coming, I would've forfeited and run all the way here." That was obviously the perfect thing to say since Erika grabbed Paul's hand as he encircled her waist with his arms, vowing never to let her go.
Battlefield… Traitors…
Goh mocked. "These Kanto trainers can't fight very well, that much is clear. I am so disappointed in them. That person almost beat him, and his Pokémon were all but destroyed. Right guys, this competition ought to be a piece of cake."
Next to her beau, Chloe smiled and cooed. "Certainly, darling! You'll win this competition with ease! Up until you face up against that jerk, Red, you'll crush anybody who stands in your path first! Then you'll take home the title, and we'll be rich!" The simple idea Chloe had made the traitors all start to perspire. Serena remained silent and kept her hands busy while speaking nothing. Cilan cited. "Remember that both of those two, my friend; they were Elites. Do not undervalue them; they are among the best in the world."
Goh chuckled haughtily and smiled. "They are the ones who should not undervalue me. Mark my words: I'm going to crush every single person in this room!" Dawn, who was sitting close by, made a point. "Hey! Remember that I am also here! Cilan is also taking part!" She had a smile on her face. Bonnie taunted her boyfriend while giggling. "I agree, baby. Avoid becoming overconfident!"
Iris dismissedally waved her hand. "But let's be honest, I would be stunned if you guys didn't go that far! This tournament is easily won by you guys, no issues at all!" Before Cilan hushed everyone, the gathering yelled its agreement. "Quiet down, guys! Green is going to speak now!"
Red entered the officials' booth and roared as he was returning to the battlefield. "How are we doing out there, everybody?" Red gave a few quick nods to indicate that everyone was happy before the crowd broke out in shouts. "Hey, that is right! Before we release the bracket for the competition, let me to express my sincere gratitude to Paul and Volkner for a fantastic first matchup!"
The crowd let out a loud roar in response, thanking the two elites for their time. He grinned and pointed to the big screens around the stadium and called out. "There are four brackets that this tournament has been split into! Since there are exactly five hundred and twelve competitors participating in this tournament, that means there shall be exactly one hundred and twenty eight participants in each bracket. The winners of each bracket will automatically receive prizes set up by the committee, regardless of whether you are crowned the champion or not."
He kept talking. "If everyone would just look at their Pokedex right now." Each contestant examined their pokedex as they entered the stadium "It will inform you of your bracket placement. The Necrozma Bracket, the Zacian Bracket, the Koraidon Bracket, and the Palkia Bracket are the brackets' Pokémon names. While all of the brackets are currently posted throughout this stadium, you can search for your rival on the four large screens. Right now, you can see your Pokémon's silhouette in the corner of your pokedex; it corresponds with a large screen located here in the stadium. Find your opponent by searching for their name."
Trainers started looking for their opponents, and Ash made the decision to follow suit. When he pulled out his pokedex, he noticed a picture of the legendary Fighting-Dragon-type Pokémon Koraidon from Paldea in the top right corner. He then made a 90-degree turn to his left to see the placement of the people. With the exception of himself and Paul, who was also assigned to the Koraidon bracket, all of his elites had been divided.
He looked for his first foe and discovered her. She appeared to be a very attractive young woman with blonde curls and a seductive smile. Her blue eyes sparkled with mischievousness. Ash made a note in her head to identify her later. He shouted while raising his palm to the skies. "Come here tomorrow morning at nine o'clock if you are an opening battle. Avoid being late! Now that I've said that, I want to thank you for coming today. May the best trainer... WIN!"
