Plot Summary:

Growing up, Lee Jung Yoon secretly lives with a sickness: he is in love with his noona. As a boy he is confused and unable to fully understand this abnormal feeling, but after research on how royals inbred and learning to accept himself, he finally confesses to his noona when he is 16. He goes even further by trying to come on to her/ sleep with her, which she evades in shock and disgust. Fearful for his health, his parents admit him into a mental hospital. Though concerned despite what he has done, his noona isn't allowed to visit him. Jung Yoon is devastated by this and is desperate to escape to see her. He meets a hyung in the mental hospital with the uncanny ability to hypnotize and control people; he is one of the ward's most dangerous patients. Jung Yoon befriends him, and Dong Chun teaches Jung Yoon his secrets. When Jung Yoon is ready, he and the hyung execute a plan of escape by hypnotizing the staff. They get away and go their separate ways. On the way to his home, Jung Yoon encounters a female high school student crying in an alley. He's urgently trying to get home but something about the crying girl stirs him and he stops to question her-she tells him her name in Park Hae Sung and she's run away from home because of her oppressive mother. The girl kind of reminds him of his noona. When the girl questions him, he half-lies, saying he ran away too. It dawns of him then that he'd just be sent back to the hospital if he goes home/tries to see his noona at work. He takes the girl and they run away together, to a city further south in the country where no one knows them. They use the money she saved from working and what she stole from her mother. [YJ and HS vaguely favor[HS nows nothing about her father]

A few years later Hae Sung becomes pregnant. They are happy anyway and plan to marry when she's of age and they have better jobs. She gives birth to a beautiful baby girl named Lee Yong Ja. Jung Yoon has convinced himself he was abnormal after all and he was "cured" by his relationship with Hae Sung. He misses his family and feels bad for abandoning his family that was only trying to help; he plans to tell Hae Sung the truth about his past. Before he can, his sickness is revived when he starts to harbor jealous feelings when Hae Sung and Yong Ja are together. Gradually he starts to love Yong Ja more than her mother, for her beauty and that she is more like him in spirit. Jung Yoon plots and disguises himself one night. He kidnaps Hae Sung, performs hypnosis and convinces Hae Sung that she has no daughter and no lover. He convinces her that she has been a negligent, disgraceful daughter and orders her to return to her mother and atone for her wrong. Hypnotized and ashamed, Hae Sung complies and leaves that night to return home. Jung Yoon raises baby Yong Ja from then on, instilling the lie that her parents died and he was a good childhood friend of her mother who vowed to take care of her because the situation was so pitiful.

Twenty years later, Yoon Jung lives with Yong Ja in another town. They are happily married and she is pregnant with their first child. Yong Ja considers herself fortunate to have "Yoon Jung ssi" always there for her, it would make sense she would fall in love with him and become his wife. They fit so well and shared so many tastes. She considers herself very special that he has turned down other women over the years. Meanwhile, Hae Sung has been living in hell ever since she returned home. Her relationship with her mother has become both more compassionate and difficult in that Hae Sung isn't as rebellious anymore and Hae Sung's mother sympathizes with her daughter's new, strange episodes. Hae Sung suffers from memories she doesn't think are hers. For the next twenty years she tries to live a good life but struggles to handle these "fits" from unknown memories of a man and a baby girl who look so familiar. By coincidence she runs into Jung Yoon's hyung from the mental hospital. As they see each other more and get close, Dong Chun starts to recognize her "symptoms" as those that people suffer from when they are hypnotized/controlled by him. He tries to ask questions, but Hae Sung can't really remember anything between the time she ran away from home at 15 and when she returned home at 18. When he tries to ask her about the man and the baby, it gives her extreme migraines and causes her to go into worse fits. Informing Hae Sung's mother and as the only person who can help Hae Sung, he begins the process of helping her to control her fits/migraines while trying to recall her memories. All the while he is suspicious that the man Hae Sung sees in her visions is Yoon Jung, the young, disturbed punk he taught his secrets to and escaped with. Yoon Jung was the only person he taught, he was the only other person who could do this. Eventually he is convinced it is Yoon Jung when Hae Sung recovers. Hae Sung tells him her whole story and is determined to find her family.

Dong Chun, the hypnotist, agrees to accompany Hae Sung as a friend and a personal physician, just in case she relapses. Hae Sung returns to the city she and Yoon Jung lived. But another family lives there. She and Dong Chun overturn the neighborhood for answers and learn Yoon Jung picked up and moved with Yong Ja to another town a long time ago after the young miss went missing. Again they delve deeper to find out what town it is. As they do, Dong Chun reluctantly tells Hae Sung how he is connected to Yoon Jung. He tells her she was controlled-why else would she leave?-, but Hae Sung remains in denial, adamant that Yoon Jung wasn't that kind of person and he loved her. Dong Chun argues with her that she didn't know what kind of person he was. She was too young and hurt to care about Yoon Jung's past or realize she was being deceived. He tells her she had no idea that he ran away from a mental hospital the night they met and why he was in there in the first place. When Hae Sung demands that he tell her why Yoon Jung was admitted, Dong Chun can't bring himself to tell her. He says she should find out for herself and he asks if she remembers exactly what happened that night right before she traveled back home when she was 18, but Hae Sung still doesn't know. To himself, Dong Chun figures that is also something she will have to find out since it was the most difficult, most crucial memory to recover. Recalling how much of a sick youth Yoon Jung seemed to be, Dong Chun hopes they find him soon and hopes he hasn't done anything further than what he has to break Hae Sung's heart.

The pair are a bit cross with each other, but still work together to track down her family. Meanwhile, Yoon Jung and Yong Ja are preparing to visit Yoon Jung's family. Yoon Jung and Yong Ja leave a day or two right before Hae Sung and Dong Chun arrive at their home, just missing them. Their last source of info had been a friendly colleague of Yoon Jung's, who had confirmed where Yoon Jung and Yong Ja were living. He had told Hae Sung and Dong Chun Yong Ja was living with Yoon Jung and they were out of town for a few days, but didn't mention they were married, assuming they already knew since Dong Chun lied about he and Hae Sung being visiting relatives. Dong Chun proposes that they stay in a hotel miles out to monitor when they pair will come back. Hae Sung readily agrees.

Yoon Jung and Yong Ja arrive at his parent's home. A few years ago he reconciled with them, after Hae Sung left, and introduced Yong Ja to them as his intended. At first they were concerned with the age difference and his noona was uneasy with how alike they were and that Yong Ja seemed to be a little slow in some aspects but ill thoughts simmered away eventually when the family saw how in love they were. The family is happy that Yoon Jung seems to be "cured,", most of all, now that he is married. While there, Yoon Jung is having a private chat with his father in his study, in which his father reveals that he had an affair with another woman when Yoon Jung's mother was pregnant with him. He says all these years he's lived with regret because the woman had gotten pregnant and he wasn't there for her at all, nor for the child she gave birth to; he hopes Yong Ja and her little addition will help him make up for his wrong. Yoon Jung is angry with this revelation, never minding his own sins, and feels pity for his mother who knows about the affair but not the other child. Later, lounging in father's study alone, Yoon Jung accidently finds an old photo of a woman and a little girl his father had been hiding. The little girl looks like Hae Sung. Yoon Jung, however, makes a copy of the picture so he can do his own research before he can confirm the unsettling truth.

On the day Yoon Jung and Yong Ja return home, Dong Chun and Hae Sung are parked across the street. Hae Sung is asleep from exhaustion, scolded earlier by Dong Chun for overworking herself. So Dong Chun is the one to witness Yoon Jung open the car door for a pregnant woman that is undoubtedly Yong Ja, judging from age and looks. Dong Chun wonders where Yong Ja's husband is since she's pregnant, but realizes the horrible truth when Yoon Jung and Yong Ja share a passionate kiss before going inside. Instead of alerting Hae Sung, he speeds off. He ignores Hae Sung's heated questions and protests, refusing to say anything. When they get back to the hotel, Hae Sung is beating on him, demanding answers. When she's about to storm off to go back to the house, Dong Chun grabs her with a pained expression. He tells her sternly not to go there, not to ever go there unless he is with her. Hae Sung notes that something isn't right, that he might be trying to protect her. But its been twenty years and she needs to know the truth. She needs to see her family. She promises Dong Chun she will stay away from the house, but knows the moment they are separated, she will go on her own. Knowing how she is and reading her face, Dong Chun makes up his mind not to ever let her out of his sight. Deep down, he is even prepared to hypnotize her into forgetting her memories for good and returning with him. He'd remain by her side and suppress them for the rest of his life.

Dong Chun decides for the sake of them all, he will confront Yoon Jung first. Knowing how determined and stubborn Hae Sung is, he knows at some point she will meet with her daughter and lover, no matter if he tries to take her out of the town back to where they live. When Hae Sung is sleeping, Dong Chun leaves late at night for Yoon Jung's. Yoon Jung answers the door irritably and fully awakens when he realizes who it is. Yoon Jung isn't particularly happy to see him though he puts on a front. Dong Chun pushes past Yoon Jung, affirming this isn't a friendly visit. Dong Chun's fury surfaces when a now visibly pissed Yoon Jung calls out and reassures his wife (yeobo) that everything is ok. Dong Chun relates Hae Sung's story to Yoon Jung and jacks him up, pressing for answers and confessions Yoon Chun refuses to give. To rattle him more, Dong Chun tells him he's been helping her to find them and that Hae Sung could come by any day despite his efforts; to protect her, Yoon Jung should just lie about his marriage to their daughter and send Hae Sung away-he should tell Yong Ja not to believe anything Hae Sung says about being her mother and say the baby's father is another man. It would hurt that her family would be cold and wouldn't accept her, but it would hurt less than finding out she was sent away so Yoon Jung could be with their daughter. Yoon Jung sourly agrees, then asks in smirked suspicion why Dong Chun cares so much. Dong Chun resists the urge to punch him and tells him he goes back on their deal, he will kill him. He leaves just as Yong Ja comes downstairs asking who it was. Yoon Jung says with hidden, thoughtful contempt it was some lost fool, remarking that their neighborhood was supposed to be one of the safest.

When Dong Chun gets back to the hotel, Hae Sung is gone. He curses and immediately heads back out to find her. But Hae Sung is already on the bus to Yoon Jung's, having convinced herself she doesn't care about the past, she just needs to reunite with them. When she reaches the house in the early morning, Yong Ja is walking out to check the mail. With many emotions and a softened, proud look at how her daughter has grown and at her big belly, Hae Sung approaches. Yong Ja is weirded out at first and is about to go back in the house in a hurry…but stops when she realizes how much the ahjumma resembles her. She asks who Hae Sung is and Hae Sung tearfully reveals she is her mother, asking with a smile why Yong Ja isn't living with her husband and taking her hand tenderly. Yong Ja frowns, pulls away and says she has no mother. He mother died when she was a baby and she lived with her husband in the house she just walked out of. Hae Sung is confused, stunned in silence, but falls to her knees in choked grief when Yoon Jung strides out. He is wearing a wedding band similar to Yong Ja's. When he sees Hae Sung, his smile drops and he hurries over. He tells Yong Ja to go back in the house but Hae Sung grabs at her dress pitifully, crying and insisting she is her mother. Dong Chun arrives on the scene just as Yong Ja takes up for Yoon Jung. She shakes Hae Sung off and screams she doesn't care if Hae Sung is her mother or not. When Hae Sung wails at Yoon Jung for doing this to her and their daughter, Dong Chun snaps out of it and rushes over to take Hae Sung. But even that revelation doesn't seem to shake Yong Ja, and she spits in heat that Hae Sung gave birth to her for her to be with Yoon Jung, it was fate. Dong Chun hauls a shocked Hae Sung off just as Yoon Jung says to him that apparently the deal is off and returns inside the house with Yong Ja, urging her to calm down. Dong Chun glares back at him before forcing Hae Sung in the car and driving off.

Weeks pass. Dong Chun has taken a traumatized Hae Sung back home, doing his best to comfort and treat her. His love for her makes him struggle with the temptation to hypnotize her to stop her pain, but the same love for her would make him hate himself for tampering with her mind without her permission. On the same token, Hae Sung's trust in Dong Chun is tainted with worry that he might try to control her too. She doesn't know what to do. Meanwhile, tension has built between Yoon Jung and Yong Ja. Finally Yong Ja's hidden frustration and guilt surfaces and she has a break down. She makes a reluctant Yoon Jung tell her the truth about everything and has to be admitted to the hospital; the shock has induced premature labor pains. The doctors inform him there might be complications with the birth due to recent stressful activity. Yoon Jung is upset and furiously leaves to find Hae Sung and Dong Chun, murder on his agenda. He ignores a call from the hospital and the doctor leaves a voicemail inquiring if Yoon Jung was aware of deformities detected in the baby's growth, not related to recent stressful activity.

He finds Hae Sung's home. She answers the door without Dong Chun in sight and he barrels in, proceeding to yell and beat her around, telling her if Yong Ja's baby dies, he will come back and kill them both. Hae Sung numbly takes it and tries to reason with him at first then inside something snaps and she fights him back. As she fights him her last memory comes back of Yoon Jung kidnapping and hypnotizing her – his eyes are zoomed in, indicating its Yoon Jung. Dong Chun rushes in to Hae Sung on top of Yoon Jung, a knife poised at his neck. As he goes to pull her off, a crumpled photograph on the floor catches his attention. He picks it up, widens his eyes and really goes to pull her off. When Hae Sung tries to fight him off so she can kill Yoon Jung, Dong Chun holds up the picture to Yoon Jung who is sitting up. He demands where he got the picture…and Yoon Jung doesn't answer, only stares at Hae Sung. Then he grins and starts a slow laugh that turns hysterical. Hae Sung, who glimpses the picture too, is momentarily stilled. Knowing she'd never seen that picture, she screams for Yoon Jung to answer. She asks him why he has a picture of her and her mother, and Yoon Jung just laughs even more. He stands with a crazed look in his eye and leaves. Putting the pieces together- Yong Ja's offness from what he saw, the picture, how Yoon Jung may have gotten the picture and why he'd brought it- Dong Chun mutters to her that they will not have to worry about him coming back. When she asks how he can be so sure, Dong Chun merely hugs her. The hug makes he drop the knife and all her defenses. She weakens from her grief all over again and he sinks to the floor with her. As Hae Sung weeps a mantra about her poor daughter, Yoon Jung is walking away in the rain, showing his teeth in not quite a smile, not quite a scowl. He says to himself sadly and resolutely "its who you are to the end, isn't it Lee Yoon Jung? ", thinking back on his "normal" relationship with Hae Sung so long ago. He never looks back. But behind him, two shadows arise, the man doing hand motions and speaing in the distraught, insane woman's face, snapping, and her falling out in his arms. He trudges away out of sight and the light cuts off.

The end.
