Percy woke up with a pounding headache. He opened his eyes and sat up. He saw his phone on the nightstand next to him. He stared at it like it was alien. Which was true, because he didn't have a nightstand. Then he remembered he went to Annabeth's after the sign-up's. Maybe he was still there.
He picked up the phone and turned it on. The first thing he noticed was the 12 missed calls from his mom. And then he saw that it was 9 in the morning. 3 hours till the tournament started. Then the phone died.
He sighed and put the phone down. He then heard rustling from the side of him. He turned and his blood turned to ice from shock.
Annabeth was lying in the bed next to him. Not only that, but she was naked. He looked down and realized that he was too.
"What's wrong?" She asked?
Percy gestured to all around him. She looked down and shrieked. She held her arms around her chest, covering most of her boobs.
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?!" She yelled.
"I just woke up not even 5 minutes ago! And it was right here!"
Annabeth seemed to believe him and calmed down a bit. "Do you remember anything from last night?"
Percy shook his head. "I don't remember anything past when we came in here..." He trailed off, remembering what happened before that.
"You mean that..."
"Yeah. Were you telling the truth?"
Annabeth's cheeks turned a little red. "Yes. And you?"
"Yeah." He said quietly, finally admitting it. While sober at least. "So what now?"
"Well now we get dressed and try to find a used condom, otherwise we may have a situation on our hands in 9 months."
Percy's eyes widened. "Shit. My mom is gonna fucking murder me if I got you pregnant."
Annabeth smiled. "Then you better find one."
Percy looked over near the door, seeing a trash can. He got out of the bed and walked over to it. Luckily for both of them, there was indeed a used condom in it. He turned around.
"There's one in there. But I'm wondering where the hell we got it from."
Annabeth paused. "That is a good question."
They stood there in silence, before Percy spoke again. "We should get dressed. It was 9 the last time I checked my phone."
Annabeth nodded.
They got dressed, and left the room. They walked into the kitchen where Grover was sitting at the island. He was drinking something, presumably coffee, from a mug. When he heard the footsteps come from the hallway, he looked over.
"Good morning! How was last night?" He asked with a smirk.
Suddenly, it clicked. "IT WAS YOU!" Percy said.
Grover shrugged. "You're welcome. I know both of you don't have protection."
"And you do?" Annabeth asked.
"You never know."
Percy rolled his eyes and walked over to the pantry. He opened the door and looked inside. Luckily there was some cereal on the top shelf. He reached for it and remembered that it wasn't his house. He turned back to Annabeth.
"Can I have something to eat?"
She nodded. "Help yourself."
"He certainly did last night." Grover muttered, before taking another sip of his coffee.
"Grover, shut up." Percy said, before reaching for a box of Fruity Pebbles. He looked through the cabinets, trying to find a bowl. All the while Annabeth and Grover snickered. It wasn't till Annabeth told him which cabinet they were in till he found them.
He made his cereal, pouring it in first then the milk afterwards. Because you know, he wasn't fucking stupid. He sat on the other end of the island, away from Grover.
"Oh come on man, don't be like that." Grover said.
Percy just stared at him and put a spoonful of cereal in his mouth. He swallowed after chewing and asked Grover if his phone was charged.
"Yeah, why?"
"I need to call my mom, but mine's dead."
Grover handed him his phone and Percy entered his mom's number. It rang a couple of times before she picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hi, mom."
"PERCY FUCKING JACKSON! WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T YOU ANSWERED MY CALLS!?"
"I accidentally fell asleep at Annabeth's and my phone's dead. I'm using Grover's right now."
"Well, next time let me know. I was worried."
"I will."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you too. Oh! I entered the beyblade national tournament."
"Well, good luck. I'll be sure to watch if I can. Bye honey."
"Bye mom."
Percy hung up the phone and handed it back to Grover. The toaster beeped. ANnabeth went over and took out a piece of toast. She must've put it in there while Percy was on the phone. She buttered it, before eating it.
"You guys ready?" Grover asked.
"Yeah, I think so." Percy said. Annabeth just nodded. She knew what to expect. She had won the last 3 after all.
"I'm nervous." Grover admitted.
"I'm sure we all are." Annabeth said, looking pointedly at Percy.
"Yeah, 1st one, I don't know what I'm getting myself into."
They were silent as they continued to eat. Percy finished his cereal and washed the bowl in the sink before putting it in the dishwasher. Annabeth threw her napkin away. Grover washed out the mug.
"What time is it Grover?" Annabeth asked.
He pulled out his phone. "9:39."
Annabeth nodded. "Alright, we have time. We get ready for the tournament and meet back here. We leave at 11:30. Any questions?"
Grover raised his hand. He had a shit-eating grin on his face. "Are you two dating?"
They both blushed, before Percy yelled, "Shut up!", causing Grover to break out into laughter.
LINE BREAK
"WELCOME BACK BLADER'S, TO THE U.S. NATIONAL BEYBLADE TOURNAMENT!" The announcer said. "We have a great match-up for the contender's round! The bracket has been posted. Bladers, please check them, as they will tell you who you are battling against."
The 3 friends looked at the bracket. Percy was up 1st, with his battle against Nico Di Angelo. His beyblade was Nevermore Necromancer. It was an attack type, same as Percy.
His friend and Annabeth (he didn't know what to call her) wished him good luck before finding seats in the stands so they could watch. Percy sighed. He and Annabeth should figure this whole thing out soon, it was eating him out from the inside.
"Would Percy Jackson and Nico Di Angelo please head to the arena, as your battle is about to begin."
Well, this was it. Either he lost now and just remained a spectator for the rest, or he won, and moved on, only to face someone that was more likely better than him. It all came down to this round.
He walked to the field, where the arena was set up. He walked into the 'room', and was pleasantly surprised. They covered the field with concrete. He guessed it was interlocking pieces that could be easily removed. In the middle was a stage, with a beyblade stadium in the middle.
A ref was already there, along with Nico. Nico was a little younger than him, looking at about 15. He had black hair that hung in his eyes, which were also dark, almost black. His skin was pale, like he hadn't seen the sun in years. He used a string launcher, which was black and grey.
His beyblade matched him, as it was also black. It had the image of a skeleton, with 2 main attack points in the form of scythes.
"ALRIGHT!" The announcer said. "The 1st round of the tournament is about to commence. We would like to remind bladers that the round ends when one of you reaches 3 points first. A survivor finish gets you 1 point, a ring out finish gets you one point, and a burst finish gets you 2 points. I wish you both the best of luck, and may the better blader win."
"Blader's get ready!" The ref said.
Percy pulled out Pontus and put it on his launcher. He spread his feet, getting into his usual position. Nico did the same, except he kneeled.
"3."
"2."
"1."
"LET IT... RIP!"
Percy pulled his ripcord hard, deciding to go for power with less control. Both beyblades entered the stadium. They raced around the edge, playing a game of cat and mouse. Pontus was faster though, as it had a rubber tip, as opposed to Necromancer's plastic one.
Trident clashed with scythe as Pontus rammed into Necromancer. The impact knocked Necromancer into the wall of the stadium, and off of it's usual course. The black beyblade now moved in a flower pattern, barely evading Pontus.
It got slower, losing it's stamina. Pontus was as well, and it was enough for the two to clash again. Necromancer slammed into Pontus, but it only hurt itself, as it made contact with the only attack point on Pontus, the trident.
Necromancer was knocked into the air, soaring high. It came to Nico's eye level, before landing on the ground. Outside the stadium. As soon as it made contact with the floor, the beyblade burst. Inside the stadium, Pontus gave out and made one final rotation, before it stopped spinning.
It was clear Percy won the battle, but how many points did he get? Was it a ring out finish, or a burst finish? The entire crowd held their breath as they waited for the ref's verdict. Both blader's watched as the ref played the events in his head.
"Ring out Finish! One point to Percy Jackson." He declared.
Percy smiled. Sure, it wasn't a burst finish, but at least he was ahead. He picked up Pontus and looked at the tip. It was blue, with green rubber in the shape of a star. It was slowly building up dirt and grime on it. He would have to clean it soon, he didn't want to lose some of the performance from improper care.
He put the beyblade back on his launcher as he got ready for the next battle. Nico picked up the 3 pieces of his beyblade and put it back together. He put it on the launcher and got into position.
"3."
"2."
"1." Nico tilted the angle of his launcher forward. Percy's eyes widened, but he couldn't correct his placement to counter.
"LET IT RIIIPP!" They shouted.
They pulled ripcord and string, sending their beyblades to battle. Instantly, the difference in Necromancer's trajectory was obvious. It was in a flower pattern, which posed a threat to Pontus, who was circling the stadium.
Necromancer came up the slope and crashed into Pontus, knocking it into the wall. Pontus crashed into the wall, taking a serious blow. In fact, it stopped it's lap around the stadium and went directly for the center.
If there was one thing that you should know about attack types? If they were in the center, you already lost. So it didn't surprise Percy when Necromancer came down on Pontus with the unforgiving fury of death.
With Necromancer's flower pattern and Pontus in the center, the blue beyblade was getting thrashed around like it was nothing. Pontus' heavier disk did it no favors, as it made it too heavy to evade the scythes of Necromancer.
Pontus lost speed. Percy was relieved. Sure, he lost, but Nico would only get one point with a survivor finish. He was sure that Pontus was going to...
SHLINK!
...Burst.
Fuck.
"Burst Finish. 2 points to Nico Di Angelo." The ref said.
Percy picked up the pieces of his beyblade and put it back together. He dug the dirt out of the tip with his nail. He turned it around to look at the energy layer, where the merman stared back at him. The gold glinted in the light.
He inhaled and put the beyblade on his launcher. After all, Nico hadn't won yet. He was still in this.
"3."
"2."
"1."
There was a superstition among beyblader's that their bey's had spirits in them, and that when beyblades battled, the spirits battled too. People believed that you could strengthen your bond with your beyblade, and that you could become in sync with it. Percy didn't believe it, at least before he saw Annabeth battle. But in that split second before they launched their beyblades, he could've sworn that some supernatural power made him tilt his launcher to the left.
"LET IT RIIIIIPPPP!"
Both beyblades entered the stadium at high speeds. Both doing flower patterns. But Pontus' was different. It could be described better as figure 8's. This allowed for Pontus to strike Necromancer multiple times, interrupting the black beyblades path.
Necromancer tried to dodge Pontus, but it was always there to dash it's dreams. Necromancer was slowing down, but Pontus was still going strong. It continued its onslaught on Necromancer. In fact, Necromancer was almost done spinning.
But that wasn't the end of the battle. Pontus bounced off of Necromancer and spun all the way up to the top of the stadium. It smashed into the wall, which sent it with more momentum straight at the skeletal bey.
The hit didn't just stop Necromancer from spinning, it went straight through the beyblade, bursting it. There was so much power behind the strike that the energy layer flew up high enough for the red eyes of the skeleton to make eye contact with Nico.
"Burst Finish. 2 points to Percy Jackson. Percy wins the round with 3 points. He will move on to the next round of the tournament." The ref said.
"WOW FOLKS! WHAT AN EXPLOSIVE START TO THIS YEAR'S TOURNAMENT! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT ELSE IS IN STORE FOR US THIS YEAR!" The announcer said, obviously pumped up about the battle.
"Good game." Percy said, holding his hand out for a handshake.
Nico stared at Percy's hand, before shaking it. "Yeah, good game. I want a rematch sometime though."
"Central park?"
"Yeah."
"You got it."
Percy walked off stage and walked into the stands, trying to find his friends. He found them and sat in between them.
"Congrats." Annabeth said.
"Thank you."
"You're onto the next round." Grover said.
"I'm gonna be honest, I didn't think I'd get past the 1st round."
They watched as the next round was announced. It was Silena Bearegard, vs some other person. Obviously, Silena won. Percy clapped, before he realized what that meant. Since this was a bracket, that meant...
...He would be facing one of the Supreme 4 in the next round.
Primordial Pontus vs Silent Seductress.
A/N. Okay, I know I was supposed to upload the next chapter of The Games Of Othrys, but let me explain. I started this chapter to get my ideas jotted down, then I got carried away, and suddenly I had over 2,000 words written. So yeah, sorry, but also kind of not. I'm enjoying writing this.
What did you think of the battle?
If you want fluff, well I got some planned for the next chapter.
Also, the 1st arc is going to be pretty short, with Arc 2 maybe being twice as long.
Thoughts?
