Luke's mind startles out of his thoughts as the vision shifts again. Now, he is at what appears to be the front of a colossal temple. He sees a person who appears to be Ahsoka walking away from the temple, his father running up from behind attempting to get the girl's attention.
"Why are you doing this," his father asks the Togruta.
"The Council didn't trust me, so how could I trust myself," Ahsoka responds turning to look the man in the eyes.
"What about me? I believed in you. I stood by you. I still do and will no matter what."
"I know you believe in me, Anakin, and I am grateful for that. But this isn't about you. I can't stay here any longer," Ahsoka looks away as she says this, "not now."
"The Jedi Order is your life," Luke's father says drawing Ahsoka's gaze back to the man "You can't just throw it away like this. Ahsoka you are making a mistake."
"Maybe, but this is something I have to sort out on my own, without the Council, and without you." Ahsoka turns away.
"I understand," his father says gently. "More than you realize, I understand wanting to walk away from the Order."
Ahsoka glances back and simply says, "I know," and then she walks away.
Luke looks on a little confused, the reason he is being shown this particular event hits him. Ahsoka is leaving the Jedi, and it is tearing Anakin Skywalker to shreds. This was part of the reason Luke's father fell to the dark side, the loss of a close friend maybe even family.
The events around Luke shift again, he is on a ship, a battle raging fiercely outside. The clash of lightsabers instantly draws his attention. He sees his father and an older man fighting with their lightsabers, another man behind them seemingly bound to a chair. The fight is quickly over as his father takes off the older man's hands with one fast swish of the wrist. His father grabs the older man's crimson blade and holds the two lightsabers to the older man's neck as he falls to his knees.
"Good, Anakin. Good," the man sitting in the chair says. "Kill him. Kill him now."
"I shouldn't," Luke's father says in response.
"Do it," the sitting man says.
With those words Luke is saddened by what his father does, he watches as his father cuts the man's head off.
"You have done good, Anakin. He was too dangerous to be left alive," the man in the chair says.
"Yes, but he was an unarmed prisoner. I shouldn't have done that," his father says sadly. "It's not the Jedi way."
Luke blinks tears filling his eyes, and everything around him changes again. There is a reddish-orange carpet on the floor, and pillars reach high above to meet the ceiling. He is in the shadows of the pillars next to someone, he identifies as his mother. He followers her gaze and sees his father talking to someone. Saying goodbye to the person, his father runs to the shadows to embrace Luke's mother.
"Anakin," she exclaims, happy to see the man again. "I can't believe you're home. They told me," she pauses briefly. "There were whispers, that you were killed. I couldn't- every day."
"I'm here," his father says. "I'm fine. I am here with you," hugging her tightly once more. "I will always come back to you Padmé."
"You're not fine. You're hurt!"
"It's nothing, I swear. Just some small burns that's all."
"Five months," she lets out. "It's been five months, how could they do that to us?"
"It's okay, I'm here now."
Luke stares on watching his parents. He wishes he could have known better as to what they were like than just these brief flashes in his Force vision. He watches as his parents kiss, his mother quickly pulling away.
"Anakin, not here. It's too dangerous," she says.
"Yes here. I'm," his father pauses briefly looking for words. "I'm tired of all this deception. We love each other and we are married. I don't care if they find out."
"Don't say things like that. We aren't like every other couple, you're a Jedi."
The two embrace, looking rather sad. Then, Luke's father pulls away worry across his face. "What's wrong your trembling?"
Lowering her gaze she says softly, "everything has changed."
"What? What is it?" Taking her by the shoulders now looking her in the eyes. "There's someone else isn't there?"
"Not in the way you think. Anakin, listen," she is cut off.
"Who is it? Who," Tightening his grip on her shoulders.
Luke wishes now more than any time before that he could stop the events happening but knows he can't. He is simply an observer.
"Stop. Anakin, stop. You'll hurt us."
Luke stares confused and watches his father's hands spring off his mother's shoulders as if they were burning.
"Padmé. I am so sorry, I just," his father takes a step back unsteadily. "What a joke… The Hero With No Fear, they say. Padmé, I can't lose you. I can't. You're all I live for. Wait," pausing for a moment he realizes what she said entirely. "Did you just say, us?"
Stepping forward, she takes his hand. "I'm… Ani, I'm pregnant."
Now it makes sense why Luke is seeing this. A simple reunion is too simple to show in the chaos of his vision. This is when his father found out he existed.
Looking away briefly, the events around Luke shift again. He is getting somewhat exhausted from the constant shifting. He is back in the apartment from before, this time it is night. He sees his father sitting on the edge of one of the two couches. He then sees his mother walk in and stand beside the man.
"What's bothering you," she asks.
"Nothing," his father says in response.
"Anakin, please tell me."
"It was a dream."
"Bad?"
"It was like the ones I use to have. About my mother, just before she died. But," pausing to take a deep breath Luke's father finishes, "it was about you. It was about you dying in childbirth."
Reaching down to her stomach she asks, "and the baby?"
"I don't know."
Again everything shifts, this time however he is not in the complete surroundings, it is as if he is watching a screen.
"Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis?" Luke sees the man from before that convinced his father to kill a man.
"You must break through the fog of lies the Jedi have created around you." A different location but the same man as before.
"Master Windu," his father this time says, yet again in a different location. "I believe Chancellor Palpatine is the Sith Lord we've been looking for."
"Don't," again it was his father speaking. Luke starting to not care too much about the location. "I need him." A man raises a lightsaber preparing to move in a downward motion. "NO!" His father yells now, igniting his lightsaber and cutting off the other man's hand. A string of lightning shocks the man and he falls out the broken window. Luke's father steps back, dropping the lightsaber in his hand.
"What have I done," he cries out in anguish.
"You are fulfilling your destiny, Anakin," another voice rings out.
Luke stares in shock at the scene before him. A person who looks a lot like the man before stands over his father. The Emperor he thinks, even more, terrified.
"Become my apprentice. Learn to use the dark side of the Force," the Emperor says.
Luke's father falls to his knees and says, "I will do anything you ask. Just help me save Padmés life. I can't live without her."
"To cheat death is a power only one has achieved. But if we work together, I know we can discover the secret."
"I pledge myself, to your teachings, Master."
"Good. Henceforth you shall be known as… Darth… Vader."
Luke feels more tears brim his eyes, this was his father becoming Darth Vader. This was his father becoming the monster he is today.
It is more of a personal challenge to see how much of this I can do. I am speeding through it more now because I want to get out of the purgatory that is retelling scenes but it will be done soon I promise.
