Small Indulgences for a Troubled Lover's Heart

She shuffled her feet through the sludge outside her apartment. The February slush was extraordinarily unbearable today, especially because it was two o' clock in the morning and Josh's mood had made a damper on her day.
Collapsing on the couch she laid there thinking of how her job may not be worth it. Josh yelled at her more frequently and it wasn't the teasing kind either. They used to be able to do those kind of things but recently he had grown bitter and hard. She was about to give up when something shiny out of a partly opened cupboard caught her eye. It was the exact aroma that she needed after a day of wanting to discover a way to kill Josh with Scotch tape. The glimmer made her move quicker towards it than a Yo-Yo Ma concert. It was Dove chocolate.
Indulging upon the sweet substance she let it melt on her slowly defrosting tongue. She moaned under the flavor. Nothing could crave her desires such as this bag of candy. She read the heart sculpted foil as a token to let it be known that she did something concerning chocolate, hearts, and indulgence on Valentines Day.
They all made her eyes roll as she grabbed another piece. The foil crinkled as she let the preceding wrapper fall to the floor. The next one seemed to hold something. Her curiosity was caught as she unwrapped the candy as if it were any other one. She looked at the wrapper as she dropped the chocolate into her awaiting mouth. It made her catch her breath and smile. This summarized all she felt about Josh and why she kept that wretched job. 'Savor small romantic moments.'
She looked back at the things that have helped her in the past, made her get through anything. Her mother, chocolate, Ben and Jerry, and Josh. Josh was mostly the reason to result to the first three comforts. She sighed as she rolled back on her stomach. Josh may be an idiot she thought but he was her idiot. No matter how many Amy's and Mandy's there were along the path, it was her that would see him everyday. She would be the only one to stay for over fourteen hours until the end of a fatal surgery even though there were other things to do. She is the one that would never stop for a beer or red lights. She was his dependent, his friend, his guardian, his only.
She abruptly stopped her unwrapping of the chocolate in her hand. She will savor it, she thought as she rewrapped the chocolate and placed it in the bag. She pushed herself off the couch to place the chocolates back where they were. They could wait another day. For now she would get going on that memo she promised Josh she would do. Who cares if she was doing it two days ahead of time, she was Donnatella Moss and that was a responsibility she had to carry out.
