So some of you noticed that I changed the name of this story. I decided to change it to be a more neutral sounding name and something less wordy.
Anyways, we're going to start just before Season 1, by violently changing canon.
Now our story is going to start off one OC you may recognize from one of my other stories: Amas. Though he's Amas Eremy instead of Amas Ross due to be adopted by a different family. And if some of you know, Eremy's a reference to a certain someone.
Please note that this story is completely fictional and should NOT be taken seriously. This is pretty much military crack.
2039 CE/ 80 AGW
Somewhere in the kingdom of Vale
A pair of beowolves walked through the forest, stalking for Humans to hunt. This was their nature, their purpose.
Crack! The Beowolves turned up to track the noise.
Only for a bullet round made of Terran iron slammed into one of the monsters of Remnant, violently ripping it apart. The second Beowulf jumped, only for a second round to slice into it and causing the wolf-like grimm to collapse where it stood. Both beasts slumped to the ground, dissolving into dust.
300 meters away, Amas B. Eremy, a former member of the Atlas White Fang Cell and SDC underaged worker but now a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, stared through the smart scope of his M5A1. The two beowolves had bit the dust.
"(Comms) Two kills Lance Corporal. Nice" a voice over his helmet's comms said.
"Thanks Ami," Amas said, shifting his rifle around to spot more targets.
Now you might be wondering who these two are. Let's start with our marine, Amas Eremy. He was a former member of the Atlas White Fang cell, and served in the fang proudly.
At least until Sienna Khan took over. Her words of more action spurred the Atlas cell to be way too violent. The number of civilian deaths skyrocketed and a number of the moderates of the cell, including Ama and his adopted sister Melo, protested the attacks on innocents.
Said protesting got him and others dumped in a SDC mining camp and he was forced as forced labour for several months working in harsh mining conditions.
At least until NATO forces raided said camp and he was whisked away to the NATO-controlled city of New Mantle. From there, Amas and Melo were adopted by a pair of US service officers, his father in the marines and mother in the air force. He lived a good life.
But Amas, still bitter about the Fang betrayal, wanted to do more for his saviours. One thing lead to another and he was inducted into a youth military program set up to find potential recruits from Remnant's NATO population. So he took the name Eremy as his last name and signed up.
Amas had joined the USMC at the age of 17, one year ago, and had aced his Marine Corps Martial arts program (earning a green belt), become capable of hitting a moving target 400 metres away with an M5A1, and actually got a qualification to operate heavily armed vehicles. And he had his aura and semblance unlocked. By the time he was 18, he was already killing Grimm by the dozens and was assigned to Battlegroup Sanus.
"Hey Ami, what's the weather going to be like for the next few hours?" Amas asked, as he stood up to leave the area.
AMI, or Artificial Military Intelligence, was created from a joint Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Indian, and NATO project to create more advance forms of artificial intelligence. Using some tech recovered from Atlas, the Terrans created several AIs, including Software Operations Awareness Program (SOAP) as the first AI made, Synthetic Intelligence Node (SIN) used to bolster NATO's intelligence services, and Cross Operations Sapience (COS) used to bolster Earthside data networks. All were considered sentient by the West, though their introduction was very quiet.
AMI was the tenth created and after a few years of learning like a child, AMI officially joined NATO operations on Remnant and was assigned as battlegroup Sanus's electronic support. Thanks to her, communication interference went down, sensors and radar seemed to work more efficiently, and electronic firewalls were hardened.
Ami was also Amas's controller as he was hunting the Grimm. NATO regularly sent lone operators to thin out smaller groups of Grimm to help alleviate issues for the outer villages. Amas volunteered as one, taking out Beowolves and Ursas left and right. At least, that was the official reason.
"(Comms) cloudy skies, but no rain. You have some time to get your ass to a village and rest up." Ami said, having access to NATO's satellite network above Remnant.
"Alright then, it looks to be a good night." Amas stood up. "Hopefully things should be quiet."
Turning around, Amas stood up and walked off further into the woods. There, he found his personnel vehicle: the Canadian Senator APC.
A 4 wheeled armoured vehicle, the Senator was chosen to be NATO's standard armoured vehicle, filling in the room the Humvees would take. It was a fair choice, cheaper to operate than more advanced versions like the JLTV, it wouldn't look tooooo out of place on Remnant compared to something like an APC like the French Jauger or Indian Kestrel, and it was fairly well armoured and armed.
Currently, Amas had one armed with a forest-coloured exterior with a remote-controlled M2 Browning and Spike Anti Armour launcher. Also Amas two Switchblade launchers mounted on the side, along with various sensors and smoke grenades. In the passenger area of the senator was a load of ammunition, grenades, a few boxes of MREs, several bottles of water, grenades, and so on loaded.
You might be asking why a single marine in the middle Sanus. The answer came quite quickly.
"Ami, where's Amber?" Amas said as he hopped into the driver's seat, putting his M5 to the side.
"(Comms) We have a Grey Eagle above, circling her. She seems fine, though she's about to run into company. She's Southeast of your current location. Marking on GPS." Ami reported having access to an armed UAV in the sky along with NATO's satellite network.
"Remind me again, why can't we just kill Cinder and her cronies now?" Amas asked as he flipped a few switched and the armoured beast roared to life.
"(Comms) Official answer is that removing Cinder this early may cause a splintering in her faction that would be a bit much for the authorities to manage. If her faction splits, the more extreme elements may become uncontrollable and cause civilian casualties." Ami replied, sounding bored.
"And the unofficial reason?" Amas asked, putting the Senator into 3rd gear.
"(Comms) Unofficially, we still have no idea who's a part of Salem's faction in Vale despite intel's attempts. This attack may give us some more information about who's working with the queen. Or even worse, killing Cinder might result in Salem sending someone more competent. That and our lovely autumn maiden would appreciate it."
"Is this an excuse to get someone into Beacon Academy?" Amas asked as the Senator rumbled out of the hiding spot.
"(Comms) Yes. You're the best candidate out of all the members of the recent Emerald Hunters graduates." Ami said.
"Why not Sydney? He's good, just as good as me! Actually, he's stronger! Or Nora? Or Lie? Or Ram? He's a Gurkha in training." Amas questioned.
"(Comms) Well, the first three are all in the hospital at the moment due to them and an army armourer making a homemade cannon and it blowing in their faces. We actually did want to send Ram as well but the Indians wouldn't budge as he's the son of a UN employee so not yet. Melo is a pilot, not a ground fighter. Shino's still completing her firearms qualifications. And Pelayo is finishing up airforce work at New Misawa."
"Ah, so I'm the spare." Amas said as the Senator rolled down the dusty dirt road.
"(Comms) Honestly the plan was to send you, Nora, Lie, and Pelayo together, with a second team formed, then have Sydney, Shino, Ram, and Melo go together but schedules don't match. Either way, we'll have to make do- Contact."
"Oh?" Amas looked at the senator's monitor, showing a camera from the Eagle's view.
"(Comms) Autumn's been engaged. Looks to be Emerald is there, though Mercury's obviously absent. Cinder's off to the side. And we have a Hazel Rainart there. Though we do have a newcomer as well. Looks to be in their teens."
"Guess Cinder did get someone to replace Merc when we nabbed him from his father." Amas watched the battle progress as he stepped on the gas. "Ami, you have Hellfires right?"
"(Comms) Yup. As you are the senior organic personnel on the ground, I am hereby requesting permission to fire a hellfire to scare off the Queen's pawns."
"Permission granted," Amas said as the senator rocketed towards the battle.
While making sure not to crash the car, Amas watched from the Eagle's Point of view as a single missile detached and rocketed toward the 5 fighters.
On Earth, a single shot or strike can change the course of history. From the first shots at the battle of Lexington and Concord to the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the first artillery salvos that sparked WW2 and the Doolittle Raids and many more instances, Terra was well acquitted with how one shot can make all the difference.
A single missile here, would further change the world of Remnant.
With Amber
How things went downhill, Amber would not know at the moment. One minute she was travelling on her house on the way to Beacon, the next minute four unknown people began attacking her when she tried to give an apple to a down child that disappeared.
Oh Amber fought hard, she did. But she was overwhelmed, wounded, and now was being held down by some green-haired teen and a very buff man in his thirties with a Vacuo tan. And there was this black-haired woman with gold eyes standing in front of her. Plus there was another male teen, wearing a red hood, watching from the side.
"I'm sorry about this." The man said, genuinely looking sorry.
"Don't." the woman in front of Amber said without any hint of sympathy. Instead, she seemed to revel in Amber's pain. "She inherited a power she doesn't deserve."
The woman held out her right hand in front of Amber's face when what seemed like a glyph appeared and Grimm beatle materialized out of nowhere.
Terror gripped Amber as she saw the creature. "Please…no." she whimpered pitifully.
The woman looked sadistically, ready to claim what was 'supposedly' hers. But just before she could do anything, it was as if the brother gods blessed Amber.
Out of the corner of Amber's eyes, she could see a streak of light coming closer, and closer, and closer when it ran straight into the ground behind the KABOOM! A massive explosion violently erupted sending all five of them sprawling to the ground.
Amber, with a burst of adrenaline, kicked the ones holding her to the ground and grabbed her staff before jabbing it into the green hair girl's stomach before attempting to make a run for it.
Or would have if the burly man tackled and pinned her to the ground.
"You aren't leaving. St-" at that point all of five of them heard….music?
Play Red Vs Blue - Warthog Music
"What the hell kind of music is th-" the cloaked teen couldn't finish speaking as a massive forest camo coloured armoured car roared over the hills blaring god awful music with someone inside screaming "YYEEEHAAAH!"
Taken completely by surprise, the black-haired grimm-wielding woman had no chance to react as the car smashed through the road's wooden fence straight into her which sent her flying over the road's other fence.
"CINDER!" the green hair teen yelled, just as the massive turret on the top aimed straight at the green hair and fired a single round at her. BANG! And the green-haired girl violently few backwards.
This caused the big man holding Amber down to loosen his grip just long enough for the fall maiden to throw him off and crawl forward. It was when the car, right in front of Amber, opened its side door revealing a man just slightly older than her in the driver's seat with a rifle pointed at her assailant.
"Get down!" he yelled out, firing his rifle at the burly sympathetic dude who was trying to kidnap her. A few rounds hit, slamming into his aura and nearly shattering it. Amber, on the ground now, crawled towards the car.
"Hazel!" the cloaked teen said, running over and dragging both him and the green hair when all of a sudden, a wall violently rapidly rose out of the ground between the armoured vehicle's volleys of machine gun fire and themselves.
It was at that moment the machine gun stopped firing and Amber's assailants thought they had a chance to strike back. Only for the tube on the side of the turret to blink green.
Amber was glad that she ducked. A Whasoom! And what appeared to be a rocket was flung out of the tube and not a second later, rocketed over Amber's head and into the rocket wall that the cloaked teen had erected. The three assailants were violently thrown backwards with the wall's debris and Amber could have sworn she heard bones cracking.
"You!" Amber turned over and saw that lady that she now knew her name as Cinder raising from the ramming attack. A tinge of fear ran down Amber's spine as Cinder raised the arm that had the grimm parasite thing in it.
Or would have when a BANG! Rang out and Cinder's arm violently exploded. It took Cinder a few seconds to recognize the pain before she screamed as she stared at what was once her arm now reduced to a bloody pulp of mangled bones and blood. As it turned out, a 50 Caliber round could shatter most auras. Cinder may have been strong, but her aura, already depleted by being rammed by a multi ton vehicle, couldn't take the hit.
"Cinder! We have to leave!" the cloaked teen yelled as he got up from being thrown via rocket explosion, though clearly in pain even if Amber couldn't see his face. The teen pulled out a canister and threw it in Amber and the armoured car's direction. The Grenade landed just before Amber's feet and released a large smokescreen.
Amber coughed and stumbled backwards before her back suddenly hit the car. And the adrenaline was wearing off, or sweet sweet pain.
"Hey! Are you good?!" the man yelled from the driver seat side. All he got was a groan of pain from Amber.
Meanwhile, with Amas.
Oh crap oh crap oh crap. Amas thought he shoved open the Senator's door and leapt out with both his rifle and a first aid kit.
Amas rushed around, searching for targets as the smoke screen dissipated. No tangos. Good.
Rushing over to Amber, who was slumped against the wheel of the senator. "Hey, hey! Stay awake." Pulling out a stim shot from the first aid kit, Amas kneeled next to Amber and injected her to keep her awake.
"Holy." Amber breathed out, feeling the pain receding.
"Slow down, you took a bad stab wound." Amas took out a gaze pad, a tourniquet, some disinfectant, a pair of scissors, and an elastic bandage. "Stay still, gonna close it up." Amas said as he gently pulled her so he can
Amber stayed still, trying to spot her enemies when she felt a tinge of embarrassment when some snipping was heard and felt that the man, definitely close to her age, was cutting away her clothes. "Hey! What are you-"
"Easiest way to get to the wound. You can get new clothes later." Amas removed the last of Amber's torn up clothing and, seeing the stab wound, ripped open the disinfectant and cleaned it open. Amber hissed in pain, before Amas applied a gauze pad. Then grabbing both the tourniquet and elastic bandage, Amas wrapped the two pieces of cloth around Amber's body one piece at a time.
"Ok, good," Amas said, helping Amber up. "Don't push it though ma'am. Even with your aura, it's going to hurt for a while."
"Thanks." Amber nodded. "Who are you?"
"Ah, I'm Amas Eremy. NOD marines, at your service ma'am." Amas gave a polite bow, something slightly awkward considering he was his M5 on a sling and wearing 30 Kilos of gear.
Amber smiled for the first time in a while. "Amber. Amber Autumn. Beacon Student." Then she frowned. "Wait, what's a NOD member doing this close to Vale?"
"Oh, short version. I'm hunting Salem's associates." Amber's eyes widen.
"Salem! You know about Salem!?" She exclaimed.
Amas shrugged. "Queen of the Grimm, wants to kill all of Humanity? Yeah, NOD's been aware of them for a few years. The maidens as well, including magic."
Amber's jaws drop, then she straightened up. "Well….I suppose I don't need to do too much explaining to do. Sooooo." Amber paused. "Can I actually get a ride out of here? I kind of want to get out of here now."
Amas turned around, noticing that Amber's horse was gone. "...Yeah sure. We can ride over to the next village, we talk some more."
That was when a Grimm roared in the distance. "Preferably away from the Grimm."
Amber nodded and within a minute, the two were in the Senator, riding off to the next village.
United Nations Database…M5 series of rifles.
Designed by Sig Sauer and ordered in mass quantities by the United States and Canadian armed forces, the M5, formerly the XM5, has become the standard weapon of North American and some European forces operating on Remnant. The M5 is a slow return to the old style of battle rifles as a way to combat heavier body armour used on Earth.
When conventional conflict returned to Earth as a major possibility, the United States Armed Forces began looking for a weapon to replace their AR-15 rifles. After a major competition in 2022, Sig Sauer won out in the Next Generation Squad Weapons program with their XM5. Chambered in .277 fury (or 6.8mm by 51mm Common), the XM5, later dubbed the M5, would begin being issued to a number of troops for frontline service, primarily in Europe and Asia. It operates on a Short stroke gas operated piston and feed by a 20 round box magazine. However, when the Brother gods approached the nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to aid in their issues on Remnant, the various western militaries would come together to form several joint units in opposition to the queen of the Grimm, Salem. Many new logistical concerns came up, with one of them being the American's switch to a new rifle calibre.
Due to logistical concerns and political pressure from a number of other militaries, M5 production was halted temporarily and Sig Sauer redesigned the weapon to be chambered in a redesigned 7.62 Nato cartridge. Now dubbed the M5A1, this became the standard issue rifle for American, Canadian (though known as the C-25 for Canadian forces), Japanese, Taiwanese, New Zealand, and Brazilian forces on Remnant. It is extremely similar to the M5, only rechambered for the 7.62 round. It would prove suitable in taking down light Grimm like the Beowolf and Imps, though struggles to deal with heavier ones like Ursas and Deathstalkers.
The M5 would remain in service even with the introduction of the XM6, Terra's first man-portable full automatic magnetically accelerated assault rifle. Even still, this would be the standard rifle for many NASOD operatives working far from regular NATO forces. After the battle of Mount Glenn and the Atlas raids, most M5s would be recalled and issued to Terra side forces with the now streamlined and improved M6 (C-27 in Canada, L140 In the UK, Type 01 in Japan, etc) becoming more commonplace. Despite this short-lived service on Remnant and less famous lifetime compared to the AR-15 platform, the M5 series has been associated with North America's answer to the Grimm.
End of Chapter. Hope you enjoyed it. I'm working on two more chapters for two more stories.
