Free Guy: A Whole New World
Chapter 5 - Strange Things
Author's Note: Just a repeat of what I've already said - thank you again for reading my story and I deeply appreciate the positive reception you've given me. I also hope (still) that by now, you've heard what happens already in the movie whether by seeing it or just looked up spoilers yourself. And WAIT 'til you see what big cameo surprise I have for this story.
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to this movie. That goes to Disney/Fox. I only own this story, any OCs, etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if any of what I write about appears in Free Guy 2.
"Alright, you guys. I am tuning out for the night." Getting up out of her seat, Millie stretched out her arms a bit before giving a goodnight motion to Mouser and kissing Keys on the cheek. "Have fun with the game."
Keys chuckled in response, and quietly watched his girlfriend walk in the direction of their bedroom. Once he heard the door close, the game designer quickly went back to his computer and Mouser watched from his desk as his friend searched through someone's game logs. "Ain't you kinda invading your girl's privacy by doing stuff like that?"
"I'm not trying to get into her account or anything like that," replied Keys, letting out a small sigh of relief since it showed that Millie hadn't logged in until a week ago on the night they'd seen Antwan escorted out of Soonami Studios and she'd learned his true feelings for her. "I just want to make sure someone hasn't stolen Millie's actual character. She's worked hard on it."
"Hey, whatever floats your boat, my man," said Mouser, raising up his hands to indicate he wanted no part in what his boy was doing. "I'm just gonna head out to the liquor store for a bit then. Deuces!"
While Mouser started to leave, Keys turned his attention back to Free Life and put on a headset after preparing his usual moustached stripper cop avatar that he used back in Free City. "Alright, Blue Shirt Guy. Prepare to meet your literal maker… again."
#############
"Guy, for the hundredth time, I am not going to do one of those silly and pointless dance moves that the other gamers usually do." Molotov said in a firm voice, even though she continued to follow Guy wherever it was that he was taking her.
"It's nothing like that, Millie. I can assure you," replied Guy, who had no intentions whatsoever of them to ever do the dances that she was referring to. But before either of them could continue onward, the sound of a police siren appeared and they stopped to see a cop driving in their direction. "Oh hey, I know that officer!"
After parking the vehicle on the side of the street, Keys exited out while Guy gave a friendly wave. "Hi! Nice to see you again… how's your rabbit partner?"
"He's alright, Guy. Thanks for asking," said Keys, and he nodded over at Molotov, who was looking at him with a curious expression. "You mind if I ask your girlfriend a couple of questions?"
"Oh, she's not my…" Guy started to say, but then he saw Molotov give him a raised brow and playful smirk. "Well, I mean I haven't technically asked you yet to be… uh… w-where are my manners at? Millie, this is the… nice officer who wanted me to lose my skin and he's got a rabbit partner that said he would ban me for life or something. You're not trying to do that to me now, are you?"
Keys shook his head, and made another gesture towards Molotov. "No, Guy, everything is good with you. I just have a couple of questions for 'Millie' that I'd like to ask." Then, he made a tapping motion above Molotov's head and a status bar appeared that showed a login-logout time. "Do you remember what took place on this day?"
"Uh, yes…" answered Molotov, but still feeling a little bit confused about the current situation while Guy was surprised at how Keys had gotten the bar to appear. "I told Guy - well, he said for me that I couldn't spend so much time with him here. And so, I left because I needed to find… someone."
Keys nodded, and then crossed his arms before asking the next question. "Thank you for that. Now the thing that I'm confused about is how you're currently active at this moment rather than in a comatose state since you're not really logged into the game."
Guy's face became confused after hearing that until he remembered the time when he'd gone to her hideout to apologize for his anger after first being told about Free City being an actual game. "Wait, do you mean that she's supposed to be completely still right now and not moving, like, at all?"
"Yeah, exactly…" confirmed Keys, waiting patiently for Molotov's response while a still-confused Guy looked over at her now. "At least just tell me what happened when you returned to the game."
"Uh, she's a little bit sensitive right now in that department," said Guy before Molotov could answer, not wanting her to suddenly try and kill the officer like she had tried doing to him at the park. "All she can remember is being captured by some people and they somehow released her into the ocean waters at the beach through a lightning bolt. But we're try-"
"Alright, I think I'm done here actually. For now, at least." Guy raised his eyebrows in surprise while Keys started walking back to the car. "I gotta go back to the, uh, station… just do me a favor though, Guy? Do not let anything bad happen to her."
"I… I would never," said the blue shirt-wearing NPC, and watched the moustached officer drive away before looking back at a confused Molotov. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm alright," replied the beautiful gaming avatar, who still seemed to be a bit nervous and confused. "Uh, w-where was it that you wanted to take me again?"
A small smile appeared on Guy's face as he brought her over to a small building that appeared to be deserted. However, once he opened up the doors, Molotov's eyes went wide and her mouth almost dropped to the ground. "Holy-"
############
"Shit, this can't be good." Keys said aloud to himself after having fully logged out of the game, and he got out of his chair to head over to the master bedroom. The young man opened the door to find Millie resting comfortably in their bed with her eyes closed. "Mils? You awake? I gotta talk to you about something important."
"Alright, just gimme a moment," muttered Millie as she slowly began sitting up and letting out a yawn while her boyfriend sat down in front of her. "Did something happen to the game?"
Keys rubbed the back of his neck while having a confused expression. "Uh, kind of. Not in a 'shut down' way, but… I think someone's hacked into it and taken control of your avatar."
Millie remained quiet for a moment before she started to chuckle and laugh, much to Keys' surprise. "What is so funny?"
Lowering her head down for a bit, the young woman sighed and brought it up to look at her boyfriend with an amused expression. "Not how I exactly wanted to tell you but here we are." She playfully placed a hand on his shoulder. "Keys, there's nothing to worry about. My avatar doesn't need me anymore to be with Guy."
"Hold on a sec…" Walter did a double take, looking back and forth between her and where their computers were. "Ok, what exactly did you do to Molotov Girl?"
Flashback - Several Days Ago
With Keys asleep on the couch and Mouser knocked out in the guest room, Millie decided to take a moment and check in on Guy to see how he was doing in the game. She expected to see him with with either the security guard or Dude but for some reason, the NPC was going in and out of some old-looking building several times.
Then, she saw him eventually go to the park's swingset and sit in one quietly while looking at the sky several times but also the empty swing next to him. He was even humming the pop song that they both enjoyed. "But it's just a sweet… sweet… fantasy…"
Just seeing him so lonely made Millie start to feel bad about having decided to not return to the game as a player until an idea suddenly came to her. "Alright, Guy, since we haven't exactly given an actual birthday yet… here's an early gift that's coming from me to you."
She minimized the game window for a bit so that she could access her character work page. A few minutes later, right before she was going to save the changes, Millie softly placed a couple of her fingers across the computer screen. "Gonna miss logging into here as you, sweetheart… but I've got my own Guy now. You deserve to be the one who already found you."
With a slightly bittersweet smile, the young game designer clicked the Save button and watched as Molotov Girl became updated to be an actual part of Free Life. Then, Millie looked back at the stream of Guy on the swing set -
Present Time
"Okay, alright, I get it," interrupted Keys, shaking his head and moving his arms around for her to stop. "You don't have to go all Notebook on me… so she's basically like a non-playable avatar character?"
"If you want to avoid all of the complicated technical talk, then yes," replied Millie, and gave a small shrug before lying back down on the bed with her head against the pillow. "Anything else you're curious about?"
"No, I think I understand it pretty much. It's actually pretty generous of you," said Walter, and the two shared a warm smile at each other. "And right about not having to worry about anything."
Millie scoffed and raised an eyebrow while also smirking at her boyfriend, who rolled his eyes at her response. "Uh, when haven't I been right? It's pretty much two for me and zero for you."
"Oh that's just a bunch of bull-"
############
"- shiitake mushrooms, yeah… still don't get why it was a prize but a level-up is a level up." finished Guy, and he gave a small shrug. The two of them were currently standing in his trophy room, which he had first showed her back in Free City to reveal how much he'd leveled up for her.
"I… just gimme a moment," said Molotov, re-living the same type of speechless feeling as she had from the first time he showed her. "I still can't believe you went through all of this… just so I could talk to you."
"Well, that was what you said I needed to do," replied Guy, and was unable to stop himself from saying what came next. "I mean, aside from the whole lifetime supply of virginity thing but I don't think it's an issue anymore since you're here - oof!" He quickly covered his mouth once it connected to him what he'd told Molotov, and was now hoping she didn't catch that.
Unfortunately, she had heard every single part of it and was now smirking at Guy with a raised brow, as well as walking slowly over to him. "Oh, ho… so is that why you wanted to show me all of this again?"
"No, it's not why at all!" Guy had a sheepish expression now on his face that was also beginning to turn red. "I would much rather prefer something like that back at my apart - aaaahhh!" Why do I keep talking?!
Molotov was now doing her best not to laugh at Guy's adorkable antics, but she couldn't deny that it was fun teasing him. "There's no reason to be shy about it. You could've just asked."
"What… I-I just… y-you and… me…" Guy started to feel lightheaded again, and a few seconds later, Molotov walked around to catch him so that he wouldn't faint against the ground.
"Okay, why don't we get some fresh air." She said as the armed character began pulling him out of the building. However, once the doors closed, sparks of electricity began to appear in the middle of the room. Then, it started to take the shape of an energy portal, and a cloaked figure swiftly jumped out of it.
"Alright, Blue Shirt Guy," said the unknown figure, who made his way over to the wall of collected weaponry. "It's about time for you to lose everything."
