Chapter Four- The Plan
It had been a month since Shirogane and I had talked in the park, but we never talked to each other after that. I caught glimpses of him in the halls and at lunch, and even while I was sitting in class, I saw him on the field during gym. But, just because we hadn't had contact since my first day didn't stop the bullying I was receiving.
Ever since that day, I had been locked in the stall in the bathroom when a desk and chair was placed against it, my books had been torn up and my indoor shoes had tacks in them. It was very tiresome to have to deal with the the girls who were jealous over nothing. It wasn't like I was dating him.
Today was no different. My bag had been taken while I was in the bathroom and thrown into the trash. Everything had been dumped into the trash and I was forced to dig through the trash.
"Why are you digging through the trash?" a voice asked.
I turned to see who had spoken to me. Shirogane stood not far away, his arms crossed over his chest, giving me a slightly disapproving look.
"Why does it matter to you?" I said, continuing to look through the trash.
"Well, the bell just rang, and here you are, skipping class," he said, stepping closer.
"I am a bit busy right now," I said.
I was not in the mood to deal with his crap. He watched me for a couple more minutes before he spoke again.
"Momomiya-san, are you being bullied?" he asked.
I stiffened a bit, but I continued to look through the trash, finding my wallet.
"No, I'm not being bullied," I said, placing my wallet in my bag.
I was still missing a few things, and I had to find them quick. It wasn't good to be skipping class this early in my transfer. This school was a little ahead than my other school, and I was having a bit of trouble with my classes. I was lost in my thoughts that it took me a couple moments to realize that Shirogane was digging through the trash, too.
"Momomiya-san," he said, "please don't hide things from me. I know you are being bullied. I heard some girls in my class saying that they got a hold of your bag and threw it into the trash. I wish you had come to me about this sooner."
I looked up at him, and saw him looking back at me. His gaze was so intent that I averted my eyes.
"But, there isn't anything you can do to help me," I said. "I can handle it myself."
I started to dig through the trash again, when he grabbed my hand. I froze and I looked up into his face again.
"I don't want you to handle this alone. It's my fault that you are being bullied. I want to help you, and I think I came up with a plan," he said.
I straightened up and tilted my head to the side.
"What kind of plan, Senpai?"
His cheeks seemed to turn a bit pink as he spoke.
"Maybe the girls would leave you alone if we were dating," he said, scratching his head.
I stared at him a bit dumbfounded. Dating? Did he want to date me?
"Is this some sort of joke?" I asked him.
"No! I didn't actually mean that we would be dating for real! We would be a fake couple! Just to get the girls to leave you alone!" he said.
It seemed like a good idea, but I could see a flaw in the plan.
"It's a good idea, but there is one thing wrong," I said, crossing my arms. "If we tell them that we are broken up after they leave me alone, then I will be bullied again. Thanks, but no thanks. I will be okay."
I looked through my bag and sighed.
"It looks like the only thing I am missing are my pens and pencils. I will just hide in the infirmary for the rest of the day," I said. "See you later, Shirogane-senpai."
As I walked away, I thought I heard him whisper something, but I couldn't make it out, so I ignored it.
After that day, the bullying got worse. I got called outside one day during lunch.
"Hey, Momomiya! We heard you made Shirogane-senpai dig through the trash with you! How dare you make him do such a thing!" one of the girls said.
I crossed my arms and scoffed at the girls. How dumb could they possibly be?
"I didn't make him do anything. He was passing by and helped me out. I didn't do anything. I don't even see why you called me out here."
"You bitch!" one girl yelled and she grabbed my hair. "I am going to make you regret saying such a thing!"
A friend of hers handed her a pair of scissors. They were going to cut my hair, and I was actually worried about that. I didn't want to lose my hair. Just as the girl was about to cut my hair, a voice called out.
"Hey! What the hell are you doing to my girlfriend?!"
That voice... I knew that voice! It was Shirogane!
"Girlfriend? This girl is your girlfriend?" the girl holding my hair asked.
She let go of my hair and I could feel a few hairs separate with my head.
"Yes. She is my girlfriend. I came to get her for lunch, only to find out that she was called out by you girls. I told you to leave her alone. Don't make me repeat myself. Momomiya-san, com on," Shirogane said.
I quickly walked toward Shirogane, and he grabbed my hand. We left the area, and found an isolated area.
"Are you okay," he asked.
I couldn't say anything. I was stunned, this was the first time that I had been physically bullied. I figured I could handle it as long as they didn't get violent, but I couldn't handle it if it got violent. I looked up at him and couldn't control my emotions.
"I was so scared!" I said, starting to cry.
I hugged him and started to cry into his chest. He wrapped his arms around me protectively.
"It's okay, Momomiya-san," I heard him say, "I will protect you."
A/N: So, what did you think? I got this idea from reading Hirunaka no Ryuusei. But, I hope you all liked this chapter, but I must be off to bed now, I have to get up in 7 hours, and I will be working for 7 hours tomorrow. So, remember to read and review. Constructive criticism is welcome but please no flames. See you in chapter five!
