Summary: One-Shot. Saria struggles to work out her feelings between Mido and Link.

Set when Saria is an adult. (I know she never grows old, but it is MY story!)

Disclaimer: Don't own Zelda, never will, never have.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

: Saria sits on the tree stump outside the Forest Temple in the Sacred Forest Meadow :

Saria: What is my heart telling me? Am I in love with Link? Am I in love with Mido?

Should I stay faithful to Mido? Or should I be with Link?

Mido and I have been together for seven years. Link disappeared from my life for so long. I just don't know if I can rekindle the love I had for him when I was a child.

Was it really love? Was it infatuation? Was it just a crush?

But on the other hand, Mido can be so selfish sometimes. And when he gets abusive, I just don't know if I can take it. He comes home so angry, and he beats me.

I often think, as I lie on the floor bleeding, why he is so angry. Is it because of Link? Or Ganondorf?

I should be stronger. After all, in a way, I am more powerful than him. But I love him… I think. I could never leave him… if Link wasn't here.

Does Link really think that I am immediately his as soon as he decides to turn up? I tried waiting! But I was confused, and Mido was there.

I can't do this. I can't. There is too much pain. I have to go. I just have to leave.

: Saria gets up and runs blindly into the Lost Woods :

: Later, as Link is on his way to the Spirit Temple :

Link: Finally, Gerudo Valley. Wow. It is so warm here. Hey, isn't that the grumpy old carpenter from Kakariko Village? Why is he running towards the river?

(Link speeds up Epona and reaches the bridge)

: There, on the edge of the cliff, is Saria – arms spread, about to jump. :

Saria: O Three Goddesses. Take me. Bring me to a different life. Take me.

: Link vaults off Epona and races towards Saria :

Link: No! Don't let her jump! Saria! SARIA! Oh my goddesses! I have to reach her!

(But Link is too far away. As he crosses the bridge, Saria begins to fall forward.)

: Just as Saria is about to jump, she sees Link :

Saria: The sadness in his eyes. The horror, the angst. What am I doing?

(But Saria is also too late. She plummets off the cliff towards the river thousands of metres down.)

But just as both realize Saria is about to die – a divine power intervenes. Saria is suspended in air by bonds of red, green and blue. She is brought up to the bridge, next to Link. The confounded carpenter gasps in awe, and runs into his tent in fear. Tears are streaming down Saria and Link's cheeks.

Link: Why would you leave me? What did I do?

Saria: Link! I… I didn't know what to do. It was too much!

In that moment alone, Saria realized that she loved Link. She always had. He would never beat her, or leave her. She forgave him for leaving her.

In a scared fury, Link grabbed her and pulled her close, closing his lips over hers. Saria leaned up into the kiss, and wondered how this felt so right.

They were meant to be. They always were, and always would be.
