Once in a while, the celebrations would go beyond the usual parties to throw a formal soirée that is known as the fairy ball. If anyone wants to be classy, they have to get their hair done in Maddy's hair salon, the Aurora Salon.
We're looking good,
Cause I'll be stepping out
I got to feel my finest
You know what I'm talking 'bout
Cause' when you're feeling fine
You can do anything
That's when you dance your best
And sing like a queen
There's nothing better than
Your natural beauty
But baby, when you dress it up
You know we gettin'
Done, done baby
Done, done, the way
We want!
And when we havin'
Fun, fun baby'
Fun, fun, the way we love
So let's get it done!
Poppy flew through the hair salon, only to notice Rose among the other elves having their hair styled for the fairy ball. The pixies are braiding her hair in intricate designs.
"Hey Rose, first time going to the fairy ball?" Poppy asked her.
"Yeah, and my date is an elf, he is very dreamy and attractive." Rose squealed. "We met for the first time at the Hug Fest."
"Ooh, I bet he already asked you out for the fairy ball." She teased her friend.
"He did, he asked me on my phone and I said yes!" The elf said dreamily.
"Poppy, you'll never believe it!" Smidge squealed as the pixie flew into the Aurora Salon excitedly. "I was flying my way here but suddenly, I ran into….. Milton Moss. We were staring at each other for two hours."
"Ooooooooo!" Rose teased. "I'm not the only one around here to get that feeling for this day."
"He asked me to go to the fairy ball and I said yes!" She continued.
"Okay, first of all…." Poppy paused as she, Biggie, Satin and Chenille, Smidge, and Rose squealed while Fuzzbert reacted with a smile and signed with his hands until they all stopped. "But second, did you say that you'll go with Guy Diamond?"
"Oh my guh! I did, I've been looking forward to it but I got caught up in the moment! Oh my guh! Oh my guh! Oh my guh!" Smidge panicked as her wings flapped with her reaction.
"Calm down, Smidge." Poppy said as she calmed her pixie friend down. "There's a clear plan of action here. Talk to Guy, I'm sure he'll understand."
"Yeah, he could take out Anna, Violetta, Denise, or Jade instead." Rose added. "I'll tell Violet about it."
"Who will understand?" Guy asked as he flew into the salon with his wings all glistening like a thousand fairy dust in the sky. "Harder than a glitter option, friends but I came here to give Smidge this."
He used his magic to make a necklace fly from a box he brought with him and land on Smidge's neck.
"For me, but why?" Smidge was confused.
"For going with me to the fairy ball." Guy answered. "After all, you're the strongest pixie in the city, just think of the dance moves we can do on the dancefloor. Ha! All eyes will be on us for the entire night and we'll be crowned king and queen of the fairy ball! So thank you Smidge, it means so much to me, so, what are you gonna say?"
"Um…." Smidge was confused about what she wants to say but she was torn between her love for Milton Moss and letting Guy down until finally, she spoke up. "I can't wait!"
Ha, my thoughts exactly." Guy agreed. "See you tonight!"
With that, he dashed out of the salon and flew off. Smidge thought of a plan.
"Okay, new plan." Smidge said. "I'll go with both Guy and Milton, keeping them apart in opposite places and I'll switch back and forth."
"Wait, what?" The others gasped.
"But…." Rose interrupted but Smidge cut her off.
"Glad that we're on the same page, bye!" Smidge said as she hurriedly flew off, leaving her friends shocked.
That night, the Snack Pack appeared to the fairy ball in the caterbus, which is squeaky clean and polished for the party. The ball itself is located in Castle Park, with glowing flowers, fairy lights, and other decorations adorn the place, tables and chairs were neatly arranged with fancy tablecloth and a table with refreshments were seen nearby.
As the caterbus opened its doors, Poppy stepped out in a stunning half-updo with a jeweled star headband, a glittery silver dress with matching high heels, and a jeweled yellow and blue bracelet. Satin, who is wearing her bangs in waves with her hair in a left-sided bun with chopsticks, amethyst jewelry, a purple dress, and matching high heels, Chenille, who also wears her hair in a right-sided bun but with her bangs in curls and held in place with a gold circlet, pink jeweled accessories, a light pink gown, and heels, and Biggie, who is wearing a purple suit with a white collared shirt, matching leather shoes and bow, carrying Mr. Dinkles, all dolled up in a white bow and hat, also appeared beside her. They enter the fairy ball together, as DJ Suki was seen playing music from the DJ booth. She is wearing a pair of white headphones with yellow gems, a silver gown with matching heels, and white bangles. Everybody in Castle City is there, dressed in their best outfits and wearing their hair in glamorous styles.
"Alright gang, let's get on that dancefloor!" Poppy shouted but she caught up with Rose, who is near her.
"Oh, you're all here." Rose gasped. She is wearing her hair in marcel waves with traditional Elven braids and a gold circlet with red roses. It matches her bluish-purple, the 20s inspired, floor-length dress with red roses along the waist, lacy gloves, a diamond-studded choker, pear-cut, drop earrings, matching heels, and she has a fur wrap around her shoulders.
"OOOOOO, nice outfit you picked for the fairy ball." Poppy complimented.
"I know, my boyfriend loved it when I show him the outfit as a photo." Rose sighed as her date came up to her and lead her to the dancefloor.
"So much for those long curls and the sideburn mustache that he charms her with." Poppy nodded. "Ooooh! That punchbowl is half-full, better make sure the bowl is full-full so the party doesn't stop."
"Poppy, you're doing it again." Satin sighed.
"In every fairy ball, you're so focused on making sure that everything is fun for everybody that you forgot to dance." Chenille added.
"I do?" Poppy asked.
The twins nodded but Branch pipped up nearby, who is standing by a tree. He is wearing a dark blue suit with a white shirt, a matching bowtie, and black leather shoes. His hair is styled in box braids and tied in a low ponytail.
"Well, if you ask me, Poppy's got the right idea." He smirked, standing by the post. "Fancy dancing is too stuffy, that's why I'll be over here all night."
"Nuh-uh, no way, I'm gonna make sure you'll get down on the dancefloor tonight, Mr. monarch butterfly wings." Poppy said before flying off. "Ooooh, right after I hang more decorations."
"Hey, check out that decked car!" A gorgon with aviator shades screamed as all the beings came to see the spectacle.
Guy Diamond's car arrived at the entrance as he stepped out, wearing a silver tuxedo with matching black shoes and sequin patterns. Smidge followed him, wearing a silver and dark blue gown, high heels, star earrings, the disco ball pendant, and her hair is tied in a curled bun.
"Wow, this is amazing, Guy." Smidge smiled.
"Now, before the night goes any further, I have to know…." Guy said before whispering at her. "Are they looking at us?"
"Yeah." She whispered back.
"See! Center of attention already!" Guy smirked. "Now, shall we?"
The two walked through the crowd, wowing them with a lot of poses as they walk to the ball. When they came up to the ball, Smidge noticed Milton Moss among the crowd and flew off to a nearby rosebush and change to a second outfit. She flew up to Milton, wearing a glittery pink dress with matching earrings, and her hair is styled in a side-swept faux bob.
"Hello there." Smidge smirked.
"Wow!" Milton gasped as he flew right up to her. "Shall we?"
During the dance, Smidge would switch in two looks to keep the two sprites distracted in opposite sides of the ball. She received a sapphire bracelet from Milton Moss and took pictures with him but she also danced with Guy. That is until she got caught by Poppy.
"Poppy, my plan is going perfectly." Smidge said. "As long as I keep my dates separated, it can't fail."
"Alright y'all, it's time for the dance competition!" DJ Suki called from the microphone. "I need to see every wing, tail, or booties on the floor and the best dancer will be crowned king and queen of the fairy ball!"
Smidge was shocked when she saw everybody dance on the dancefloor. She continued to switch while keeping both her dates distracted. Another dance caught everybody's attention, it was Rose, she is dancing a hot dance with her red-haired Elven date. Their dance caught everybody's attention as Rose used her magic to make fire dance around her and her date while he used water, creating a lava lamp effect surrounding them as the two dance. A lot of the participants started voting for who gets to be the king and queen of the fairy ball. After the music is over, DJ Suki was handed an envelope by a pixie.
"Okay, the judges have made their decision." DJ Suki said as she read the envelope. "The King and Queen of the fairy ball are… Charles Moreau and Rosetta Thornluck for their lava lamp dance, come right up you love dragonflies."
Rose squealed as she and her date flew onstage and crowns were placed on their heads but Rose removed her headband as she received her tiara. Then, DJ Suki opened another envelope when the same pixie gave her another envelope.
"For our best dancer on the night, the winner is… Smidge and her date, Guy Diamond." She said. "And… Smidge and her date, Milton Moss?"
It was shocking, now that Smidge's secret was revealed.
"It isn't what it looks like!" Smidge tried to explain but both dates were brokenhearted. Guy ran off and cried while Milton flew off.
"I guess what it looks like." Smidge sighed as went after Milton Moss but she bumped into Rose instead, who is still wearing the fairy ball queen tiara. She puts on her fur wrap to keep herself warm.
"All this time, you were switching between the two guys?" Rose asked.
"Yeah, Rose, I am in love with Milton but I was so torn because I get to be Guy's date. I thought I could keep them separated without revealing that I am with Milton but I failed." Smidge told her.
"You know what, I had the same dilemma as you did" She said.
"Did you do the same thing as I did in the fairy ball?" Smidge asked her again.
"No, my situation has nothing to do with boys, it has to do with my friends or in my local language, barkada." Rose said. "I was torn between band practice, and hanging out with my gyaru friends because I had to do a new song with my band but I also want to go shopping. I didn't wanna disappoint both my groups because I love them both so I went to my teacher and told him about my problem. He said that everybody experiences this dilemma. We just have to choose which of our friends we'll spend time with and that even if we can't spend time with one friend, we'll always have more opportunities to spend time together. He told me a Japanese quote that will remind me when making difficult choices like yours."
"Okay, so what is it?" Smidge asked her.
"My teacher quoted from Miyamoto Musashi 'Truth is not what you want it to be, it is what it is, and you must bend to it's power or live a lie." Rose responded. "Because of the proverb, I chose to be in band practice and told my gyaru sisters that I will not be there for the hangout."
"Were they disappointed?" Smidge asked her again.
"No, they completely understand and they're not betrayed because I told them my reason why I am not in the hangout." Rose answered. "And plus, my band and I would go to the gyaru cafe to hang out, and they even remixed our songs to dance parapara to it."
"So, you still keep in touch with them?" She asked her.
"Yeah, it went well for me but if you want to make things right, just tell Guy and he'll understand, just like what Poppy said earlier." Rose said as Smidge flew off to Guy Diamond, who was crying dramatically under the weeping willow tree.
"Guy, I….." Smidge said.
"Don't come any closer." Guy said dramatically. "How could you do this? If you didn't want to go with me, you could've said so."
"I know Guy, I'm so sorry." Smidge apologized. "But I did wanna go with you, it just happens so fast. Can you please forgive me?"
"Forgive you?" He fumed. "Smidge, if you think a few words would erase all these hurt, I only have one thing to say to you…..are they looking? Are they looking at us"
Smidge looked behind her and saw everyone hiding behind the bushes and trees.
"Uh…. I mean" Smidge smiled. "Actually, yeah."
"See! Center of attention again!" Guy smirked.
"Wait?! So you're not mad?" Smidge was confused.
"Are you kidding? A giant dramatic moment in front of the crowd, it's all a storybook fairy ball ending!" Guy giggled before crying. "I'll never be whole again!"
Then, he stopped. Smidge was still confused.
"Don't just stand around watching me, go talk to him." He whispered.
Smidge flew to Milton Moss, who was sitting all alone on a mushroom.
"Milton, I….." Smidge stammered.
"Look Smidge, I was pretty upset with all the tricks you pulled." He said. "But then I thought, if you were willing to go in all that trouble to go to the dance with me, you must think I'm pretty special. But then I realize how silly that thought was."
"Oh!" She sighed.
"Cause my giagiá told me that it is not okay to mislead someone." He continued.
"Oh!" She sighed again.
"But she also told me that everybody makes mistakes." He ended.
"I'm sorry Milton." Smidge apologized. "How about one more dance?"
The sprite took Smidge's hand and they both kiss as they started flying on air. After kissing, they gently landed on the ground as Guy Diamond flew up to them.
"Looks like there's an after-party!" He said as he made the trees glow with a light spell. Everybody including Smidge and Milton flew back to the fairy ball and started dancing together. Branch was still leaning against the tree. Poppy saw Branch and flew right up to him like a hummingbird.
"Branch! That's it, I'm taking you to the dancefloor right now!" Poppy scolded him.
"Fine." Branch sighed as he took Poppy by surprise by taking her by the hand and they both fly as if they are walking on air.
"What?!" She was surprised as they both dance while flying. "Whoa Branch, but you hate fancy dancing?"
"Nope, fancy dancing is the best but you were always worrying about everybody else so much, I knew that the only way to get you out on the floor is to make you make me dance with you." He smirked.
"As it turns out, good plan Branch." Poppy smirked as the two head back to the ball and join in the fun with their friends.
