Poe never doubted the First Order would fall. With billions of souls hanging in the balance, there was no other option. Their Resistance might lose. Whoever replaced them might even fail as well. But a group would eventually arise who could defeat Palpatine and restore peace to the galaxy. Tyranny never lasted forever. As long as a single being still held the spark of goodness in their heart, hope remained.

Where so many saw a losing battle, he saw a long war.

And so whenever the others spoke of trying to achieve a goal or trying to defeat their enemies, he brushed it off. It wasn't a matter of trying. It was a matter of doing the thing in front of them, and then the next thing, and then the next, for however long it took for them to succeed.

Nevertheless, everybody's mood shifted when Rey and Finn joined their ranks. Excitement hummed through the base at the idea of having their very own Jedi, new and untrained but brimming with power. It was as if the clouds of doubt parted and they could finally see the rays of hope shining through.

Even for Poe, who'd never doubted the possibility of success, both Rey and Finn were revolutionary. Rey wasn't as experienced as Kylo Ren, but she bolstered their chances in a way nobody else ever had. Meanwhile, not only was Finn a talented fighter on his own, but he knew firsthand how stormtroopers trained and strategised and how Starkiller Base was run.

Poe had always had faith that they could succeed, but for the first time, they had not just the determination but also the means.

It was time to destroy the First Order.
