A/N: The last drabble was supposed to be a stand-alone… but here's a follow-up from Rey's perspective.
'I don't think Poe likes me much,' Rey admits as she and Finn dig into their dinner. On the other side of the clearing, Poe chats spiritedly with some of the other members of the Resistance. He seems so relaxed and full of life with them – a far cry from the hint of frostiness that's been lurking under the surface whenever they've spoken since that morning's battle.
Rey can't piece together why. Yes, he's frustrated that she ran in ahead of everyone else, and she understands that she technically should have heeded his signal and waited for instructions instead of rushing in. Leia left Poe and Finn in charge of the tactics and warfare, leaving her to focus on her side of things, and insubordination from her probably doesn't inspire obedience from the rest of the Resistance.
But it all worked out! They were able to find the information they were after and sack the building, and since the remaining stormtroopers were all terrorising a city on the other side of the planet, the Resistance hadn't even sustained any additional injuries. If they wasted time on discussions instead of charging straight in, they might not have left before the stormtroopers returned. Surely he should celebrate that, at least.
A dozen thoughts and emotions flit across Finn's face as he seems to struggle with how to reply – or even whether to. Finally, he says, 'Liking you isn't the issue. He's just annoyed that you sometimes… do your own thing without thinking about anyone else.'
Rey rears back in surprise. Everything she does is to help the Resistance and protect innocent bystanders. How can anyone suggest she's self-centred and uncaring? 'I was thinking about everyone else!'
Finn spears a piece of carrot and chews it slowly before replying. 'You were thinking about the mission. You weren't thinking about the other Resistance members who all had to run headfirst into danger just because you did.'
Her instinct is to argue, but when she tries to refute his claim, she can't. In all honesty, when she ran towards the base, she never once considered the risk to the others. She trusted that she could get through any stormtroopers in her way and slip out with the hard drive – and she was right. Not once did it occur to her that the others would feel obligated to rush in too, or that she was making the mission more dangerous for them.
'Being reckless has worked out for us so far,' Finn adds quietly, 'but that doesn't mean it always will. We could have lost people today. It isn't your job to focus on that, but it is Poe and mine, and you're making it harder for us.'
'I'm sorry.' Rey stares down at her plate, unable to meet his eyes. 'I didn't realise.'
Finn bumps her shoulder with his. 'You were brilliant today, and the risk paid off. Just… next time, let's take it a little slower and make decisions as a group, okay?'
'Yeah.'
While she's at it, she should probably apologise to Poe as well.
