Chapter 8: New Hero Rise
The referee started. "This battle between Trent Fernandez of Eterna City, and Serena Lawrence of Celestic Town. This is a three-on-three match with both trainers being allowed to make substitutions at will, and the match will end when all three of either trainer's Pokemon are defeated, or if one trainer forfeits. This match will be held on a plain, dirt battlefield so neither side will have an advantage. Are both trainers ready?" the referee asked.
Both trainers replied with a yes.
"Then please send out your first Pokemon."
"Mamoswine, Standby for Battle" shouted Trent. The Twin Tusk Pokemon appeared, ready to battle.
"Magmortar, Go!" Serena called. The Blast Pokemon appeared on the field. It struck a battle-ready pose.
"Begin!" The ref said.
"Magmortar, use Flamethrower" Serena commanded.
"Earthquake! " Trent countered.
Magmortar puts both of its arms in front of it and fires two red-orange streams of fire from its arms cannons at the Mamoswine, who took the attack head-on. Then, Mamoswine lifts his front two legs into the air and lands hard on the ground, making the battlefield shake and causing Magmortar to fall on the ground.
"Wait, But How?" Serena shouted, thinking that both attacks must perform damage unless Mamoswine has an activated ability of Thick Fat, which reduces the damage of Fire and Ice attacks by 50%
"Mamoswine, Use Ancient Power" Trent shouted.
"Magmortar, Use Rock Tomb to defend yourself," Serena said
Mamoswine stomps the ground with its front legs, sending multiple rocks flying at the Magmortar, who, sticks out its arm and fires a purple circle from its arm cannon at the ground. When the purple circle hits the ground, it turns into a large gray stone. The flying rocks hit the large stone, saving Magmortar from any damage
"Magmortar, Use Lava Plume," Serena said, a bit hesitantly
Magmortar causes an explosion around it, creating a mix of smog and fire to cover the area and hit Mamoswine around it with flames.
"Use Earthquake, Mamoswine" Jake commanded.
Mamoswine lifts his front two legs into the air and lands hard on the ground, making the smoky battlefield shake. Both Trent and Mamoswine are waiting for screams of Magmortar after getting hit by a powerful ground move, as the smoke is not allowing them to see the battlefield
"Now, use Brick Break", Serena shouted
Magmortar comes out of the smoke, who, earlier jumped high in the air to avoid the Earthquake. His arm glows white and it hits the Mamoswine right on the face, crushing it to the ground. Mamoswine is able to get up on his feet, but clearly showing signs of damage
"Mamoswine, use Double Edge", Trent said
"Hit it back with Brick Break", Serena Countered
Mamoswine rushes at the Magmortar with great force and leaves behind a yellow trail of energy. Magmortar's arm glows white and it hits the Mamoswine. Both Pokemon battles for superior power but both seem equal in strength
"Mamoswine, hit it with Mud Bomb", Trent command
Mamoswine broke down the attack, then it opens its mouth and fired multiple balls of brown mud at the Magmortar, who dealt with great damage and is barely able to stand-up
"Magmortar, Return", Serena said as she recalled her pokemon. She then brings out another pokemon from her belt and summoned another Pokemon, "Empoleon, I need you on the battlefield", and the Emperor Pokémon appeared
"Damn it! a water type, but we can still use the Ground attacks", Trent thought
"Mamoswine versus Empoleon Begin!" the ref said.
"Mamoswine, use Earthquake", said Trent
"Jump and use Hydro Pump", Serena countered
Mamoswine lifts his front two legs into the air and lands hard on the ground, making the battlefield shake. Empoleon, avoid the attack by jumping in the air, and then it blasts a powerful jet of water from its beak at the Mamoswine, who falls on the ground but somehow, stand-up, not giving this easily
"Damn it, Mamoswine can't take more, time to fight strong", Trent thought, "Mamoswine, use Giga Impact", he said
"Use Surf, Empoleon", Serena commands her water-type
Mamoswine rushes towards Empoleon and its body becomes surrounded by spiraling orange streaks. Then, a purple energy sphere surrounds Mamoswine's body and it charges at Empoleon, whose eyes glow blue and it creates a huge wave of water. Empoleon rides on top of it and the wave crashes down on the charging Empoleon. Both the attacks collided and creates a small shockwave on the field along with a cloud of dust and smoke. When the smoke cleared, Mamoswine is lying on the ground, unconscious, and Empoleon is still standing, but panting and damage marks are clearly visible in it.
"Mamoswine is unable to battle, Empoleon is the winner!" The ref announced.
Trent recalled Mamoswine into its Poke Ball. "Thanks, Mamoswine, you were able to take a lot out of it. I couldn't have asked for more." He thought for a second before grabbing a Poke Ball from his belt. "Shiftry, I choose you!" He called.
The Wicked Pokémon arrived at the battlefield
"Empoleon versus Shiftry Begin!" the ref said.
"Shadow use Leaf Storm!" Trent ordered.
"Counter with Drill Peck!" Serena yelled.
Shiftry raises its arms and multiple green leaves start spinning above its body. It then fires the leaves at the Empoleon, whose beak and crown glow white and it spins like a drill as it jumps at the incoming leaf attack. Empoleon easily cut through Leaf Storm and hit Shiftry with its beak, making it cry in pain
"Shiftry, use Giga Drain", Trent commands
"Empoleon, use Ice Beam", Serena said
Shiftry's body glows green and the green beams came out of his body. The beams wrap around Empoleon's body, draining its energy and giving it to Shiftry. Empoleon, in pain, opens its beak and a light blue ball appears in front of it. It then fires light blue beams from the ball at the green tendrils, cutting Giga Drain from Empoleon's body. Empoleon started to pant more, as the hit from Giga Impact showing the damage, along with its energy drained from Giga Drain
"Now I need some speed, Shiftry, Use Sunny Day" Jake called in an attempt to strike back fast
Two white orbs appear in front of the Shiftry's arms. It then raises its arms to the sky and releases two white beams from the orbs on its hands at the sun, making the sunlight brighter.
"Empoleon Return!,", Serena recalled Empoleon, She then throw another Pokeball, "Magmortar, I need your assistance", The Blast Pokemon appeared on the field, the damage from its earlier battle is clearly visible on it but it roared as it received a boost from Sunny Day, which increases its power
"Shiftry versus Magmortar. Begin!" The ref yelled.
"Damn it, She played it well", Trent thought in frustration, Serena is a really good trainer, Top-4 in Kanto in her last league match, she is really good
"Shiftry, use Dark Pulse", Trent commands
Shiftry vanishes and suddenly appeared in front of Magmortar. Shiftry quickly puts its hands together and creates a ball of black and purple rings of energy. It then fires the rings as a beam of rings of energy at the Magmortar, on point blank.
"Hit back with Fire Blast", Serena shouted
Magmortar raises its arm and its hand disappears into its arm cannon. A ball of red-orange fire then appears in front of the cannon and Magmortar fires it at the Dark Pulse. Soon the ball of fire overpowers Dark Pulse and hit Shiftry with an explosion. When the some cleared from the explosion, Magmortar is standing but panting heavily, while Shiftry is lying on the ground with black spirals on its eyes
"Shiftry is unable to battle, Magmortar wins!" The ref yelled.
Trent recalled Shiftry. He only has one Pokemon left while his opponent has all three. He summons his final Pokemon with lots of hope. "Medicham, Standby for Battle!"
The Meditate Pokémon emerged from the Poke Ball.
"Magmortar versus Medicham Begin!" The ref yelled.
"Magmortar, end this with Flamethrower", Serena shouted
"Dodge it, then use Bullet Punch", Trent Countered
Magmortar puts both of its arms in front of it and fires two red-orange streams of fire from its arm cannons at the Medicham, who jumps high in the air to prevent the damage. Then, Medicham's fists glow red and it quickly punches Magmortar in the face
"Now, Force Palm" Trent yelled.
A white ball forms in front of Medicham's hand and it puts its arm up to the Magmortar. It then fires a white blast from the ball at the Magmortar, sending it crashing to the wall, and knocking it out
"Magmortar is unable to battle, Medicham is the winner!" The ref announced.
"Magmortar return" Serena muttered, recalling Magmortar back into its Poke Ball. She took out another Poke Ball. "Roserade, I need you for the battle", she said as the Bouquet Pokémon appeared on the field
"Medicham versus Roserade, begin!" The ref yelled.
"Roserade, use Leaf Storm"
"Counter with Bullet Punch"
Roserade raises its arms and multiple green leaves start spinning above its body. It then fires the leaves at the Medicham, whose fists glow red and it punches the incoming grass attack, destroying it.
"Use Petal Dance" Serena shouted.
"Destroy it with Ice Punch" Trent commanded.
Roserade spins around quickly and releases pink petals from all around its body at the Medichem, whose fist, this time, glows bluish-white. Medicham punches the Petal Dance with its icy-cold fist, nullifying it due to the attack's type advantage
"Damn it! Use Shadow Ball" Serena said
"Counter it with your own Shadow Ball"
Roserade forms a black ball of energy between its hands. It then fires the ball at the Medicham, who met the attack with a Shadow Ball of its own. Both attacks collide in the middle of the field, causing a small explosion
"Damn It!, I have to go close", Serena thought, "Roserade, use Poison Jab", she commands
"Use Zen Headbutt", Trent said
Both of Roserade's flowers at the end of its arms glow purple and extend forward as spikes, it then rushes towards Medicham. On the other side, Medicham lowers its head and purple energy begins to form in front of its forehead. Medicham then raises its head and the purple energy grows larger and forms into a ball of shining light blue energy. Medicham then lowers its head and flies its head into the incoming Roserade. Both Pokemon's collided in the middle of the pitch, fighting hard for superior strength. After a couple of minutes of struggling, Medicham is somehow able to overcome Roserade and hit it with a Super-effective Psychic move, making Roserade falls to the ground.
Everyone at the stadium is shocked and confused by this outcome. Roserade sure does possess a higher attack than Medicham, then, how did it get defeated?
"I am pretty sure my Roserade has a strong attack, it shouldn't be lost, unless it is," Serena thought to herself, soon realizing that it's Medicham's ability, Pure Power, which increases Medicham's attack power highly, causing it to overcome Roserade
"Now use Ice Punch", Trent commanded for the final blow
Medichem's fist glows bluish-white as it punches the Roserade, who is still struggling to stand up, with its icy-cold fist. Roserade got hit on the head, slamming it to the ground, knocking it out
"Roserade is unable to battle, Medicham is the winner!" The ref announced.
"Roserade return" Serena muttered, recalling Magmortar back into its Poke Ball. "Go Empoleon", She releases her starter Pokemon. Type advantage is not on her side but she knows she can win
"Medicham versus Empoleon, begin!" The ref yelled.
"Empoleon, Use Drill Peck", Serena commands
Empoleon's beak and crown glow white and it spins like a drill as it jumps at the Medicham
"Hit is back with Zen Headbutt", Trent countered
Medicham lowers its head and purple energy begins to form in front of its forehead, which grows larger and forms into a ball of shining light blue energy. Medicham then lowers its head and flies its head into Empoleon's attack. Both the attack collided but again, it was Medicham's ability, Pure Power, keeping it in the game, despite its lower attack strength. Both Pokemon's collided for a few seconds before returning in front of their trainers. Medicham is battling strong but showing signs of fatigue now. Trent knows he has to finish this quickly, or else, he is going home
"Empoleon, use Hydro Pump," Serena said
"Block it with Focus Blast" Trent countered
Empoleon blasts a powerful jet of water from its beak at the Medicham, which puts its hands together and creates a light blue ball of energy. It then fires it at the incoming stream of water. Both attacks collided causing a small explosion. Neither Pokemons nor their trainers are giving this up.
"This is will not end like this, Empoleon, use Mist", Serena said
"That's unexpected," Trent thought, "Medicham, use Calm Mind" he orders
Empoleon opens its beak and releases a thick white cloud that sparkles all around the battlefield. With the enemy nowhere on the sight, Medicham closes its eyes and started to perform meditation, soon, its body glows brightly. Then, it opens its eyes, and they start glowing brightly as well, raising its special attack power to the maximum.
"No!, With We cannot afford to have Calm Mind in addition to Pure Power, We have to end this quickly", Serena thought, "Empoleon, Go Hyper Beam!"
Empoleon opens its beak and an orange ball of energy appears in front of it. It then fires an orange beam of energy from the ball at the mist toward Medicham. Medicham, still in meditation position, dodges the attack due to its enhanced psychic power by Calm Mind
"What! No!", Serena shouts
"Now Medicham, user Focus Blast", Trent shouts
Medicham puts its hands together, creates a light blue ball of energy, and fires it at Empoleon, who s unable to move due to its previous attack. Focus Blast hits Empoleon knocking it to the ground.
"Now end this with High-Jump Kick", Trent commands
Medicham leaps into the air and strikes Empoleon with its knee, slamming it on the ground, and knocking it out
"Empoleon is unable to battle, Medicham is the winner and the match goes to Trent Fernandez of Eterna City!" The ref announced.
The crowd cheered with disbelief. Trent was down and out for the first half of the match, but it is his Medicham, who beat Serena's three Pokemon in a row, handing Trent the victory
Trent cheered, jumped, and hugs Medicham in joy. He walked up to Serena and both trainers shakes hands and acknowledges each other.
"That Medicham of yours is really special", Serana said as she shows respect to the victor and his trainer
"Thanks, you are also an excellent trainer, kept me on the edge throughout the battle" Trent responds, acknowledging his opponent's strength
Trent sees the large screen, which shows Trent's group, where he jumps to the first position, which means he now, qualifies for the final round of the Preliminary round of the Pokemon World Driftviel Championship
